First let me say that all the staff was great so they get an extra star for that. Even the housekeeping staff who was cheerful and pressed the elevator button for me  as I passed by.  Front desk staff -- Delia and Melissa- were very friendly and helpful.  Oh, another plus is easy access to Hwy 1 and Sunset Beach State Park and other beaches away from traffic. I believe they are also dog friendly.

That said, this property/rooms is/are very run down. While the rates are inexpensive for  this region, it could use some work. A lot of work.  Bedding and beds are old. Room carpets seem dirty and worn. Curtains in my room were also threadbare. The exterior looks find. But internally, it could use paint and more.

I was given an accessible room my first night which I didn't mind. I am not disabled but this room does not have a roll-in shower. For someone in a wheelchair this could be a problem. I had to move because the hand-held shower head was broken. Hopefully they have addressed this.

They moved me to the room next door. There was no coffeemaker in this room which I mentioned the next day. I was told they would bring one later. When I returned late that evening I noticed there was still no coffeemaker. When I mentioned this again the next morning I was told the second room didn't have a coffeemaker because it's not a business king. Okay, they didn't tell me that before but I have never heard such a thing. Yes, I know there's coffee in the lobby in the morning but I like to have coffee in my room when I get up.

I wasn't planning to eat breakfast there.  However, the website says "deluxe" continental breakfast. It's free and that's great but hardly deluxe. Probably many of the guests are fine with what's provided but truth in advertising.

This is a good physical location and the price was right for this particular business travel and certainly a good deal for Watsonville. And, again, the staff was personable and responsive.

This hotel (motel?) is scum, don't stay here.

The condition of the guest corridors is one thing, but what truly needs to be communicated about this hotel is the shady pricing scams that ensue pre and prior to check out.  What kind of hotel shows you one rate upon your check in and then raises it once you check out?  Do you think people are not going to take notice?  It amazes me that this place is still in business.

What ever happened to integrity and honesty in this Country?  No no, no more "out to make an honest buck."  Just get what you can and fuck everyone else.

PS, be sure to follow up on your bank statement after doing "business" with these crooks.

This hotel is good for one thing! A place to crash for one night on your travels.
A perfect example is you walk in sometime after 9:00pm and you walk up to the desk and say "I just need a room to put my head on a pillow" Don't expect much because you do not get much.My room did have a Mini micro and fridge. But your bath towels are thread bare and remind you of your Junior High school towels. The free breakfast is NO FRILLS. Small room w/MANY People. One complaint is the message light was on and I called down to the desk 3 times to shut it off and they couldn't or did not know how to do it.

Check in time time was at 3pm but we were running late and arrived around 330pm. The lady at the front desk was playing loud rap music on a little radio. I have nothing against rap music but it seemed a little unprofessional. After checking inn the receptionist handed us our room key and asked us to remember our room number because they ran out of envelopes to place the keys inn.

As we entered the room we immediately saw that the room had not been cleaned. The pillows and bedsheets were tossed on the floor and there was trash everywhere. We demanded a new room and the receptionist didn't even apologize. All that she said was, "We MIGHT have another room." Might? Really? Although our new room had already been, "Cleaned" the mattress was dirty and the room had a strange smell.

This place is about one step away from being a roach motel. I suggest staying at one of the other hotels off of Hwy 1. There are a few decent ones off of the Green Valley Road exit.

Hotel-wise, it's fine for what it is, but policies might be an issue. My first visit, a couple years ago, was uneventful. I booked another visit, but circumstances changed, long story short, I learned the day before that I needed to arrive in Watsonville earlier than anticipated. So I called to ask if I could check in at 2 pm instead of 3, but I was told there were "no exceptions" on that front.

That being the case, I had to make a last-minute reservation someplace else with an earlier check-in time, and I called back to cancel here. This was, again, more than 24 hours in advance of the existing reservation, but I was told you could only cancel without a penalty 48 hours in advance. I pointed out that both the website and my confirmation email said otherwise, and was told "um, the website needs to be updated."  Really.

They did agree to cancel after verifying that I'd booked online, but I was put off by the vagueness and/or sketchiness surrounding it. Probably not trying that again.

Thinking about saving a few bucks during that trip to Carmel, so you booked yourself here? Don't make the same mistake I did!! I can't fault this place for being a 30 minute drive away from the action or for the hotels in Carmel being so pricey, but RRI does have pretty spartan rooms (the lack of a dust ruffle!), low quality bedding, and a cleaning crew that starts at 9am.

Lesson learned: save up for the fancy inn in Carmel next time.

This is your bare essentials hotel, but is a step above Motel 6 that's for darn sure! For $60/night, this is not a bad deal at all.

    The goods first:

The staff was extremely helpful and friendly upon arrival, even though I didn't have a reservation. They pointed me to the direction of nearby restaurants and stores. They even gave me a choice of floor and whether or not I wanted to be near an exit.

No strange odors were in the room. I had all of the necessities there, towels, assorted toiletries, etc. Adequate amount of TV channels, at least enough to satisfy my tastes (no HBO though). Plenty of hot water, and I felt that the water was pretty clean, at least good enough to drink from.

For those of you who don't know much about Watsonville, it is primarily an industrial/commercial and farming town. The hotel is located towards the edge of all this, and is on the side of highway 1 that is opposite all of the retail locations. However it's still in a somewhat safe location, especially with the cool electronic lock system, deadbolt, safe, etc. Security cameras also line the elevator areas and front desk.

FREE WiFi! I mean seriously, who doesn't love free wireless internet? Plenty of parking, including spots for those semi-truckers.

    The improvements needed:

The room looked a bit banged up, perhaps a repaint and an update to the furniture is in order. The bed was definitely not my bed at home, but I guess that's what you get for the $60. The hallways are a bit dimly lit which gives it a little spooky effect, but nothing too serious where you can't see where you're going.

DO NOT stay here unless you are desperate to save money.  I booked four rooms for  two nights  so my family could attend a wedding.  We would have been better off to cram all of us in two rooms somewhere else. Everything is worn out including the towels. They are threadbare and when we requested more (two towels for three people?) we were told they didn't have any more!  It is very dirty, although there are always cleaning staff in the hallways. The downstairs doors are left propped open (although they are supposed to closed for security) which lets flies fill the lobby. Some of the staff was great and seemed to know what they were doing (Melissa), but most were clueless.  When I asked a question on Sunday morning (9-25) the desk clerk said he was too tired to think and should have been off already.   He really should have been because he completely screwed up our bill.   He wanted to charge two of us for the same room for the same night and could not understand why we wouldn't both pay!!  I just hope we didn't come home with bed bugs. Do not stay here. Noisy, dirty, overpriced, idiot staff!!!
And as an addition to this first post - They have now charged me twice for each of my room and when I called said they will correct it only if they find -IT IS TRUE!. I TOLD THEM OF COURSE IT IS TRUE!!  Luckily I have my orginial receipt, but I think this will take calling the credit card company to sort out!

We stayed at the Red Roof Inn along with many other people attending a wedding in Monterey. It was not an elegant hotel, but nice enough for the price. The problem I had was they overcharged us by $50 wen we checked out. After we pointed out the overcharge, they corrected it without an apology. Then I noticed 4 other people complaining that they were overcharged.
I would avoid this hotel even if the price looks reasonable.

Just checked out (11/28/09) today. We've stayed here each of the last 4 years, visiting family on the coast. It's definitely gone downhill in that time. Still seems clean, but even mote Spartan. If you're just needing a bed, fine.
