The badge of gold will make me hurl
If people don't stop callin' me a golden girl
Do I look like Bea Arthur or Estelle Getty?
Those who answer yes will be chopped up like confetti
I can dance up a storm & my heart's still tickin'
But yeah, OK OK....I'm admit I'm no spring chicken
But if you try to count the years, it will be askew
Cuz my grown-up son was born when I was only two
So...is this review all that it seems?
Or is it a fantasy that happened in my dreams?
Now I feel a story coming on...........
OK I was not even born yet when this happened. Had I been alive, I would be a bit older than I take credit for. So this happened in a dream I had....yeah that's right, in a dream.....
I saw Jimi Hendrix play at Red Rocks, in the final concert of Jimi Hendrix Experience. (I saw Janis Joplin's last performance with Big Brother too, but not at Red Rocks, and also in a dream....)
Jimi played at Red Rocks just 2 months before Woodstock. Of course I was too young for Woodstock as well, but someday I'll tell you of my dream about Woodstock cuz that story would put hair on a cue ball......but I digress.....
One good thing about being as old as I am (in my dreams) is that I got to experience everything that I did, as a young teen. Those times were exciting, amazing, beyond compare. The Beatles, Hendrix, Joplin, Dylan, the birth of bands like the Doors (whom I saw in Denver before they got famous.....in a dream, of course....)
At the Red Rocks concert, Jimi played Purple Haze, Star Spangled Banner, and Foxy Lady, among other songs. He was more than a magnificent musician.....he was an entertainer.
Jimi put his guitar behind his back and played it, he even played with his teeth, and.....he pretended he was going to unzip his pants and play his guitar with his....uh....thing..... The audience went wild.
In my dream, my eyes were as big as teacups.
We loved him.
I still do, and always will.
My college roomie hooked up with Jimi......in another dream.....now that's a story I can't tell......

"Why are you here taking pictures? Get out of my way." This is what went through my head one day while working out at the lovely Red Rocks Amphitheater. Its sort of like that moment when you realize you're not a tourist any more, you're a Denverite, a Coloradoan, but will still never realize the title of "local" or "frontiersman."
I use to do ultramarathons and now triathalons and this place is great if you want to get a serious hill/stair workout. The amphitheater is almost always accessible and the view around sunrise (with the sun breaking over the plains to the East) and dusk (with the orange glow settling in on the city as the glitter begins to glisten) cannot be beat. Furthermore, if you're looking to get a high-intensity heat workout, come here around 230pm on a hot summer day, take you're shirt off, and let 'er rip! And don't mind the tourists taking your picture. Its part of the deal.

I love the visitor center at Red Rocks. It is a walk through music history. Certainly the amphitheatre and surrounding trails are amazingly beautiful and highly picturesque, but I love the "music history section" of the complex.
In the very unobtrusive small structure behind the rows of seats (at the top) is the entrance to the stairs and elevator to the lower levels of the visitor center. Walk past the gift shop and follow the music of performers from past years.
There is a curved room, The Performers Hall of Fame, with lists by year and date of musicians who have performed here. It's interesting to see names such as: The Go-gos, U2, Bjork, The Beatles, Incubus, Aretha, NIN, Billie Holiday, Steve Martin, Aretha, Peter, Paul, and Mary, Willie Nelson, Ben Harper, and countless other names listed on this long curved wall. Behind are interactive monitors showing video clips along with photographs behind.
Through this wonderful room is "The Heart of Rock" theatre. There are rows of chairs placed in front of a large screen airing a montage of different performances. I saw a clip of James Taylor as I walked through.
Beyond this room is a side room with a huge spot on the wall with layer upon layer of concert flyers. I stood captivated for about ten minutes.
Circling back around is a reception room which is simply called The Rock Room. There is a wedding chapel close to the entrance of the park, and receptions are held in the main building. Gorgeous! (I have friends who were married here just over a year ago; I missed their wedding, but can only imagine that the views out of the picture windows was stunning that day.)
Past this room is the restaurant, The Ship Rock Grill. It is open from 11:30am-2:30pm daily. Apparently they have a great Sunday Brunch. As I was just passing through, I didn't have a look at the menu. It smelled wonderful and the view was spectacular! Once passing through the restaurant, you face the bottom of the stairs.
The concert schedule only lasts through the warmer summer months, I believe the last shows are in September. The visitor center is open year round. May-Sep 8am-7pm, Oct-Apr 9am-4pm.

It's funny how sometimes you necessarily dont think about a place until out of towners come to visit. I took my brother up to Red Rocks as I have many other visitors in the past and no matter how many times I come here, the feeling I get is still the same. You cant help but be impressed with this place, the views from the top and its musical history. Great views, awesome acoustics, and the best use of natural land in a very long time. There's something spiritual about Red Rocks whether there is a show or not. You have to be stupid not to experience it.

Being here for the first time in year 2000. Eversince then I have fallen in love with this place. Now I was back again, for the weekend. It never disappoint me.
Awesome awesome place and location! Cant explain why I just love this place!
Though its a drive a way from where I live, I told my husband we should make a trip like once a month at Red Rocks.
With its natural beauty and never ending beautiful surroundings, its indeed a majestic park and place to go for Tourist, Denverites, Coloradoans and transplants alike.
To bad, there's lots of sign showing the "NO Climbing"....
Its indeed a place that I would give HUNDRED stars!!!
Bring lots of water, sunblock cream, a good pair of tennis shoes or hiking shoes to explore Red Rocks. I was there over the weekend, lots of people are training, exercising or working out, and a event was scheduled for that night.
RED ROCKS RAWKS!!
Hmmm, I think I should attend one of the concerts in the future at Red Rocks one day... so I can have an update of this place or something.. *Thinking hard*... with God's willing.
PS: I heard there is relipica somewhere in San Diego, California.. a small version of Red Rocks... Can anyone, comment on that? Greatly appreciate it...
