The food here was fantastic!  The southern hospitality was genuine and authentic.  I had the mountain trout which was excellent and the stuffed mushrooms were maybe the best I've ever had.  They change the menu periodically which I really like!

This place came recommended so I had high expectations.  It was nice and the food was good, but overrated and overpriced.  While the rooms were decorated nicely, there are no locks on the doors so anyone can come in while you are away.  The staff aren't that friendly or accomodating.  In fact, the female innskeeper was quite rude and patronizing.  Talk about a good way to lose business.  Though the Red Rocker claims to offer "gracious Southern hospitality", gracious and hospitable would be the last words that I would use to describe the place.  I have been back to Blk Mtn on several occasions, but that  first visit  to the Red Rocker was also my last.

If you are looking for a great place to stay in Black Mountain, go to the Madison Inn.  They are super nice and friendly, very accomodating, less expensive, their food is way better and most importantly, don't give you attitude.

I don't resonate with the other reviewers.  I  really like the Red Rocker.  Have done it all - eaten there for dinner, stayed there and eaten for a weekend, and once brought a group of 40 teenagers to dine on a trip through NC.  The dinner is a fabulous family-style, and the best part is the awesome desserts baked up daily in the kitchen.

Breakfast is super, and the Reeses Peanut Butter pie is to die for.

Don't forget to call ahead; dining reservations are required.
