Middletown, CT
We went to Red Robin tonight on a whim, and it was such a good idea. :)
First, the service. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, which was fine. There were roving gangs of 6-year-olds with balloons, but that's to be expected in the waiting area of any Red Robin.
Our waitress's name was Kirsten, and she was fantastic. She was happy, bubbly, and replaced my friend's iced tea before he was able to set his empty glass on the table. I told her that I needed to replace my fries with broccoli because I need to avoid carbs for now, and she suggested that I get my burger in a "lettuce wrap," which is exactly what it sounds like. I'm so glad she mentioned that.
The food came out pretty promptly, but maybe it just felt like that because we also had an appetizer.
The Buzzard Wings were great. They had more of a kick to them than I was expecting, but they weren't too hot for me, and usually I'm not into the very spicy foods. My friend loved his turkey burger and fries. I had a regular hamburger in a lettuce wrap, which was great in theory, but kind of messy after you get halfway through. I had to eat the rest of it with a knife and fork, but that didn't affect the taste in the least.
The bill came to just over $30 for an appetizer, his drink, and our two meals. Great value! -

The first time I came here a few years ago, as soon as I walked in the door, I felt disgusting. I was not impressed and didn't go back until recently. I decided on the California Chicken Sandwich which was actually really banging. The chicken was juicy and the sandwich was tasty. The fries are regular steak fries, nothing special but not bad.
I guess it was worth giving it a second chance. I would go back. -

The food here is pretty decent for fast food. If you're looking for a great burger in West Hartford, you likely won't find it here. It'll be good, but not great. Plan B or Max Burger are the two best burger places in town.

Went in Sunday afternoon @ 3:00pm, place was nearly empty 40 min wait for a COLD burger!!! I will never dine here again! The manager came over and apologized, cooked another burger that that was out in less than 10 min, not much better.

The onion ring tower appetizer is delicious! The veggie burger here is decent. This is a solid, predictable go to kind of restaurant, but nothing super special (except the onion ring tower).

Been here twice, first time had to wait almost 30 minutes for a high chair and our food was not hot. Went today and it was very quiet, our server kept disappearing & when the food came out, it wasn't hot.
Will not be returning. Not worth it. If you want a hot burger & fries go to Five Guys. -

It's a chain. What do you expect? Regardless, the menu is very diverse, and with all respect to Will Rogers, I've never met a Red Robin burger I didn't like.
Atkins people like me can eat here, too--just ask for the lettuce bun. They lose the bun, and wrap it all in a huge lettuce leaf. I find that it brings out the flavors in everything else. It's worth a taste even if you don't count your carbs. (Atkins: replace the fries with a salad, if you have the willpower.)
Recommendations? The Royal Red Robin makes a great breakfast burger, and the Guacamole Bacon Burger is good for all other times.Listed in: Good places near Hartford

Went to Red Robin yesterday with three other people and we all had mixed opinions on the restaurant, but there is one thing we can agree on: service was pretty slow. I don't want to rant and say service was terrible because it wasn't, but it was noticeably slow. It was about 5 - 10 minutes after we were sent to our table before our waiter finally came to greet us and take our orders. Then it was another 20 - 25 minutes until we finally got our food. When we got our food, it was pretty good -- mine was anyway. The chicken dishes seemed to be good, and I remember going there the last time and it was good. However, two other people at our table split their signature nachos and said it was the worst they ever had. So, I guess you'll have to go there and try for yourself.
Would I recommend this restaurant? Yes, if you're patient. -

Go in with zero expectations and you will have a fine time. Not very busy on this Thursday afternoon and the staff was trudging around like it was a Saturday morning. Bartender, who was my server, didn't thank me for my visit or invite me back.
Now this is supposed to be a gourmet burger restaurant. There was no ketchup, salt or pepper, or napkins to be seen anywhere. The burgers are messy and I can only lick my fingers clean.
I mean, its Red Robin. I really shouldn't be complaining. Oh, and their #1 Zagat rated signs are a bit intrusive as well. Can't imagine how drunk that guy must have been that day. -

I have to rate on behalf of my better half. :) This is his favorite restaurant, its where we go to celebrate any occasion. Hes a huge burger and american food guy.
We like this location. Never had a problem. Its always a short wait and good food.
This place wouldn't be the same without Chuck the waiter. If you've ever had him you know what I mean. He cracks me up. I don't think we would go there if he didn't work there. My husband loves getting him too.
All in all, pretty good place according to me, but like I said, I'm rating on behalf of my husband, who wouldn't let me post without giving it 5 stars. -

Who Loves Steak Fries??? I do, I do!
Everyone kept telling me about how awesome Red Robin is, and yet I had never seen one. I knew they were around. Well, when I was at the West Farms Mall yesterday with a friend, I spyed a RR across the street and dragged him in there for lunch.
The biggest thing I had heard in praises of this restaurant are the "bottomless steak fries" that you get when you order a burger. And they have a pretty wide selection of burgers to choose from -- all beef patties, chicken burgers, turkey burgers, and veggie burgers -- all available with a pretty wide variety of combinations and toppings. I ordered the Chicken Burchetta Burger, and oooooh my gosh it was mouth watering! YUM! And the steak fries were oh-so-tastey as well, but despite being "bottomless," I did not get a refill. I mean... how many steak fries can you eat, really?
Strategy Next Time? Get burger to go, make a meal of the steak fries! haha! Everything was delicious. I only gave them 4stars though, because their service was mildly irritating. I don't know if this is a new location, or if our server was new, or what. But (A) She came over waaaaaay too much to ask how we were doing. I almost couldn't take a bite between her visits to the table. I wanted smack her. And (B) there seemed to be a bit of miscommunication. When our server finally stopped bugging us, I ran out of soda. The manager came over, asked how we were, we asked for refills which he said he'd get... and then we didn't see him again. Finally server girl comes back and goes and gets them for us. It wasn't horrendous service, but coulda been better.
I'll be going back though.

Ah. I could go on and on about Red Robin but I'm going to try to keep it short.
Our family absolutely loves this place. For every birthday you can pretty much guarantee that we are there. The atmosphere is very friendly with free balloons for kids and a few arcade games in the waiting area. Now, there is almost always a little wait, but that should be a sign to most about the good food.
For the drinks, they have these specialty drinks that even though they are slightly more expensive, they are worth it as they are free refills. I like the freckled lemonade and raspberry limeade better, and they come in these nice twisted tornado glasses.
For starters the Chilli Cheese fries are AMAZING, the Towering onion rings are good, and nicely arranged/displayed.
Their specialty is burgers, I normally get the veggie burger, which I love. Others I've eaten with have eaten and love the Banzai Burger, Whiskey River BBQ Burger, Honky Tonk BBQ Pork Burger, and Chili Cheseburger.
Something that they don't often tell you, but is good to know, is that all the burgers come with fries that are similar to steak fries and the fries are bottomless/free refills as much as you want. Also, you can get Garlic Parmesean fries instead of regular and they are mouth watering good.
Can't tell you about desserts, as I have never gotten to them as I have always been too full.
Love this place and would always recommend it. -

One of my jobs involves driving all over New England, so I often get a good selection of places to eat. Even though I could tell Red Robin was a chain just by looking at it, I figured I'd give it a try. Burgers and fries! Infinite fries! How can you screw up burgers and infinite fries?
Red Robin screwed up burgers and infinite fries.
Right off the bat, I could tell this was one of those "gourmet" burger joints. Just having the words "gourmet burger joint" together should set off sirens and flashing lights in someone's head. The term is usually an excuse to charge a premium, and sure enough, my bill came out a good 60% higher than it would for an equivalent meal elsewhere. However, anyone that cares that their dead and mutilated cow has a "gourmet" label will find a lot of different, exotic burgers to eat here with prices to match. If you're not looking for burgers, or you lost a vote on where to eat, there are other menu items, though they're all standard fare that you'd usually find at Applebee's.
I ended up getting a bacon cheeseburger and a shake. The burger - unsurprisingly - was not as "gourmet" as they wanted me to believe it was. Lab tests showed that, indeed, it was a bacon cheeseburger. Since Red Robin sets itself up for people that have hefty imaginations as to how to eat their burgers, I guess I only have myself to blame for being so "boring". The big deal was the "bottomless" fries, meaning they give you infinite portions of them. On the one hand, this is a nice gimmick, but I have to say that the gimmick means nothing if the fries aren't good. What's the point of giving infinite amounts of skinny, crunchy, pathetic fries that no one would want to eat? I found myself longing for McDonalds fries while trying to eat these things in a way that wouldn't chip a tooth. That's sad.
The wait staff was expectable for a chain; largely inattentive, and only caring enough about me to drop a cheque off after my food was out. I don't want to say my waitress was "rude", but she definitely didn't understand - or seem to care - about at least putting on a front. I know you hate your job, lady, don't take it out on me.
Red Robin is more of a setting than an applicable restaurant; it's a place for friends to meet and have some food while talking. In cases like this, the setting is irrelevant for the most part, and as long as the food doesn't come out actively mooing, it only has to be "good enough". Maybe if my tastes were more exotic I would have enjoyed it more, but as it stands, I probably won't be back at Red Robin unless I'm with a group of people with no imagination. -

Ive always heard this place had excellent burgers and as a person who loves a good burger, I finally stopped here for lunch with my teenage son. We went around 1PM during the week and the staff promptly seated us. From there, it was all downhill....
[1] The place was NOISY. I mean NOISY. I literally couldn't hear my son across the table unless he spoke loudly. There were alot of kids in here and it was louder than a daycare packed with sugar stuffed rugrats.
[2] I ordered a burger and fries and the fries were "bottomless" Im guessing that means I will never see the bottom of the basket because the fries are so gross. Giant fried chunks of sliced potatoes tasted pretty bad.
[3] The burger...a great looking treat, but it was WICKED SALTY. I like salty food, but this was SO salty I felt like i was eating a salt shaker.
Maybe I was here on an off day, but this was not a good experience at all. -

I know it's a chain so I didn't have great expectations. However, what got me into the place was the Gourmet Burger sign. I've heard good things about this place. Supposedly they have great burgers, so I stopped by a little after noon during the week, and I was promptly seated. Ambience wasn't great, even for a burger joint.The place was quite noisy and the service was slow. I ordered a burger and fries and the fries were advertised as "bottomless". I guess that means you can order more for free. I wouldn't because I didn't finish the fries I had. They were greasy and salty. Even the burger was salty. And Salt is my Kryptonite. As far as being a gourmet burger, I think not. I will not go back this place. There are far too many places in the area to get a gourmet burger: Max's, and the Wood n' Tap.

Review from Dan S.
You know, chain restaurants are supposed to be, well, mediocre. But you know what? This one surprises. The burgers are really really good (try the new Burger Parmesan). And the steak fries are different than what you'd get. The non-traditional "burgers" also please but really, if you're not going here for the burgers, then there are better places.
It's not as good as some of the local places like Plan B, but this is a great place to go for a weekend lunch with the family. TVs abound and its a decent value for the price.
So, overall, a solid rating for a solid place. -

This place is really good for kids and it is located across from the mall and near the Toys R Us. Having kids really does make you appreciate noisy restaurants that cater to children.
Not the world's greatest burger by any means but a pretty decent chain burger. I always order the burger with the green chile. Yum. Sometimes a little greasy but still edible.
As for the fries.... steak fries are nasty and I would never want anymore. -

Fast food on a plate. Lots of familys and kids, With so many other burger options in the area, I wouldn't bother. Plus, it's by a mall. Enough said. Go to Plan B or Max Burger if you actually want something good.

West Hartford, CT
Have given this establishment many tries only to come up short. Friday Night, January the 8th, at 8:30PM, my wife and I had the misfortune of stopping for a quick bite to eat. Let's just say we were seated quickly in a dirty area, floor very sticky, pieces of lime on the floor and dirty tables nearby. Many waitresses were in view chatting with other waitresses or other friends that were patrons. Our waitress was a bit clueless, had to be told to bring us silverware and napkins. The food was over-cooked and cold. The only good thing I could say was the beer was cold and fresh for a draught beer.
What a mistake giving this place another chance. They have failed miserably in all areas. The most obvious area is poor management. You can see the waitstaff is out of control and clueless on good skills and customer service.
Never again! Do yourself a favor and stay away! -

We don't have a Red Robin near Boston - so I took advantage of being in CT for work and decided to stop in.
Basically this place is a T.G.I. Fridays, Chilis, Bennigan's type joint. But focusing on burgers.
Now don't get me wrong..the burgers were good, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here.
When I came in I was greeted by the hostess - I asked her if I could seat myself at a booth near the bar area - she nodded.
I sat down and was given a menu - a few minutes later my server took my drink order and told me she would be right back.
After I received my diet coke, I began to feel a chill. It's raining outside and I'm wearing a long sleeve shirt and hoodie. I look above and there is an HVAC vent RIGHT above my table. It's blowing freezing cold air on me! WTF! I am literally shaking from being so cold. This lasts for about 10 minutes (or just until my burger arrived) is this some sort of tactic?! haha
I ordered a bacon cheeseburger. I like the way it was served - wrapped in a sheet of wax paper. I only wish I had asked them to put the condiments on it rather than serving it on the side, because once you take the burger out of it's nest, you're screwed and lettuce goes all over the place!
Steak fries were good..I didn't opt for the bottomless fries - because I wouldn't know when to stop!
Overall, I would go back if I was in the area, but it wasn't as great as I had expected. -

UPDATE--- The 5 stars I originally gave this, is now going to ONLY be applied to the West Hartford LOCATION.
AS of today's date, 4/24/08, the BUCKLAND location will now be 2 stars, and they are teetering on ONE star. Bleckkkkk.
We went tonight, mouths watering. I dont have the time or patience tonight to list every damn thing that went wrong, or how our waitress ignored us (and later argued with us).... how the food was BLAND, my burger (Fried chicken burger) was cold, the fries were cold and greasy. Hubby's fries burned his mouth,. Go figure. He has the Bleu Ribbon burger, which comes with Bleu Cheese on the top, usually a great choice. not so tonight. cold, unflavored. Just bleeccckhh,, the whole thing....i thought at first it might be my opinion, becuz the waitress was pissing me off.....but sure enuf, hubby had the same thoughts. He said, "Thank GOD we didnt bring someone with us tonight, after having told them how awesome the place was! "
We made the mistake of starting with the chili nachos. boring, made incorrectly (we asked for jalapeos to be on the side, they left them off) we asked for xtra sour cream (none brought).....
We had waters with lemon for dinner, not once did we get a refill (even after asking). My burger was supposed to have mayo on it, it had none.
We had to ask for our set ups (ie. napkins and silverware, none provided.) We had to ask 3 times FOR KETCHUP and mustard, which after the 3rd time, i discovered they were on ALL OTHER TABLES and her dumb ass only had to grab one off of there, instead of making me wait with my burger sitting open for 10 mins while she tried to remember to bring one from the kitchen (which was waaaay on the other side of the restaurant!)
Oh and did i mention, there were ONLY 10 TABLES taken in the WHOLE DAMN RESTAURANT! so its not like they were busy, and our waitress only had 3 tables (and yes, they were all rolling their eyes after she left their tables as well, so we were not the only recipients of crappy service from Miss JESSICA.
I used to be a waitress, so I know it can be very difficult, and everyone can have a BAD DAY, but u should SUCK IT UP, and be courteous and professional, not start an argument with your customer......(she did). Let me say, BECAUSE i used to wait tables (in 4 and 5 star places, and also worked in little breakfast/lunch dinette places too) I TIP REALLY WELL. I will think nothing of leaving a 35-50% tip even , if we receive exemplary service. LET me say, it KILLED me to leave this JESSICA a buck- 50 (1.50). on a 30 dollar tab. killed me, killed me.... I was tempted to leave a damn penny. I did it in honor of hubby, because he gets embarrassed. But shit, i haven't even mentioned on half of what went wrong today. AND upon asking him if he really enjoyed the last time we went to this location (vs. the REALLY enjoyable times we've had over at W Hartford) he said he didn't want to say anything, but last time kinda sucked too. I cant remember what happened, but i know the mgr ended up crediting us for something that was bad.....ANYWAY.....Play it safe, and go to the 5 star W. HARTFORD location, stay away from Buckland Hills.
Oh and YES, i did fill out a questionnaire and gave it DIRECTLY to the manager, but at that point, just wanted to leave, so didnt discuss it with him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~OMG, this place is amazing! (I am referring to the ~~~~~~~~~W. Hartford~~~~ Location ONLY.... DO NOT GO TO BUCKLAND HILLS!!!!!!!!!!!~~~~~~~~~~~~
We love, love, love it! Hubby and I discovered this place when we lived in VA, used to go to the Woodbridge location. When I was first talking about moving back to Hartford, was absolutely thrilled to discover that they had exploded up into CT as well (there are a few locations), but only the W Hartford location was mentioned, which is why I added this one, to let ppl know there is one right by the Buckland Hills mall!
We have eaten at Both, and love both. Service has been consistent at all locations, as has the food.
Food, let me tell you---the BEST burgers, best Sandwiches (I love the Fried Chicken Sandwich, also their Fish Sandwich is awesome too!)
They give u never ending Steak Fries.....(I like to ask for mine a bit crispy).....I like my fries with some substance...soft and steamy inside, with a light crunch, to hold all the ketchup!
OMG, my mouth is literally watering! Damn, why is it the middle of the night? I only moved back to town as of Sat pm....BUT i can feel a Red Robin run coming on, maybe tomorrow? yummy!
Oh, and on those rare occasions when we are feeling really adventurous, we LOVE their chili nachos! Loaded with meaty chili (no beans) and as long as u ask for extra sour cream, you will be soooo very happy!
Reeeeeed Robinnnnnn! (singing the theme song from their commercial) damn I'm hun -
Review from Matt R.
Washington, DC
As a chain Red Robin seems to be really uneven depending on when and where you go. The bad news is service can be poor to non-existant, the fries are lousy (you do get as much as you want) and it tends to be loud and loaded with young kids. The good news is that the burgers are pretty good for what they are, I like the one with bacon and guacamole. Also, the tower of onion rings is worth a try at least once - they're thick cut and heavily breaded which is usually not how I like my rings but these are pretty well done. Go in and pray for a waiter who will keep the soda's coming and there will be worse places you could have chosen.
