Review from Kimberly C.
New Brunswick, NJ
Red is my favorite place to go for drinks and dancing in downtown Red Bank. Though I've never eaten dinner in the main dining area of the restaurant, I've had sushi and other appetizers upstairs in the lounge area. I've gone here for birthday celebrations or just to go dancing. It's always a good time! The bartenders are quick, friendly, sweet, and make good drinks. Their deejay on Friday or Saturday nights is great and plays excellent music to get your groove on. You can reserve a table (for a price) or just get there early; there's plenty of seating available.
The restaurant/lounge is modern, clean, and classy. The bathrooms are modern and clean as well, ladies. I can't wait to go back when the weather's warmer! -

Food is good portion , unique and so good!
The Martini And the pumpkin tart for dessert are delicious
My only problem , they diidn't know how to make a baileys coffee ?
They gave us a cup of coffee a side of baileys and a side of heavy cream
Besides that good food n service! -

We've always had a great time at Red - always. I don't know what some of the previous reviews were referring to about "expensive and small portions" because we've eaten at Red quite a few times and have never ever experienced a small portion (trust me, i would be the first one to bitch and complain about that issue) And I really must say, for being somewhat of a "frugal" person, I really don't think their prices are all that bad...I would just consider them "pricey". I say this because their food is very delicious and it's worth the money in my eyes.
In response to (some) of the Yelpers who've complained about overly expensive drinks and snotty bouncers (ugh, sigh...i know right) but hey, wake up people, it's Red Bank! If you want to drink $2 miller lights next to a smelly guy in a ripped undershirt listening to Aerosmith then go down to Seaside!Listed in: Best Place for a Cocktail

I LOVE Red. I went there for my birthday and had a great experience. The service is good and the sushi is the BEST (particularly the Gold Street Roll)! I love the atmosphere and food. I will definitely be back and recommend it to friends.

Great little restaurant. Atmosphere is upscale yet unpretentious. The menu isn't the same old thing, and you're rewarded for trying something different.
I went on a Weds for the prix-fixe menu: $25 for starter / entree / dessert, plus (optional but I recommend it) $15 for a wine pairing - a separate glass for each course, matched to what you've ordered.
I went to the restaurant, so can't comment on the dancing in the bar.
Next time I'm in Red Bank on a Weds, I know where I'll be again. -

For a place that's mostly known as a thumpin' singles lounge, this place has awesome food. They sometimes have a well-priced Prix Fixe menu (I think on Tuesdays during some seasons?) that I strongly recommend. One of the best steaks I've had in the area, excellent creative apps and entrees. Eat downstairs and you'll like it (pricey though... that's why I recommend seeking out the prix fixe).
The upstairs lounge itself, if you just want to grab a drink, is nice, though it's usually crowded on weekends. It's uniquely laid out, split in half by a wall and each section is very narrow (you literally will bump into people, perhaps why this is considered a great bar to meet singles). There's a small dance floor in the back. Watch out for the NY crowd on summer weekends... definitely gets packed with non-locals. -

Many a night has been spent at Red over the years. Dinners, parties, girls night out, a date with my husband - Red always fits the bill! The food is always good (share the filet mignon tips for an app), and the drinks/wine are always on point. Go upstairs for a little after-dinner drink or a night out with friends. Red is great!

This review pertains to the restaurant only - I'm not much of a "lounge" or late night person.
We were in town to see Daniel Tosh at Count Basie on a Monday night, and Red was one of the only restaurants I was interested in trying out that was actually open on Mondays! So I made a reservation through Open Table and we gave it a shot. We were pleasantly surprised with the food as well as the service, and hope to return.
Red opens at 5pm, and we were the first patrons through the door. After reading some of the reviews on Open Table, I asked for the table by the window when booking the reservation, and my request was honored by the host without any prompting or reminder from me. The dining area is fairly small, and I can see how this place would fill up quickly on a Saturday night.
On Mondays, Red offers 20 wines for $20 each, so we went for the Chateau St. Michelle Pinot Grigio. Awesome deal! Our waiter brought out a standing ice bucket for our bottle, and the wine was great. We were also provided with freshly sliced lemons and limes for our water. For our appetizer, we went with the pork dumplings, which were very good. The spicy apple chutney was unexpected. Hot rolls were also provided, along with a sampling of butters and olive oil. Yum! I had the Steak Frites and my husband had the lamb shank, which was gigantic!! My steak was a little overcooked, but still tasty. Everything was served piping hot and fresh. Even though I was stuffed, the waiter mentioned a special dessert (Pumpkin Tart) so I went for it. Just ok.
All in all, the experience at Red was excellent. The service was outstanding, the pace of the meal was just perfect, and we weren't rushed out the door. I'd love to go back once Red Bank is decked out for the holidays. P.S. Parking in Red Bank is free after 6pm on the street. -

Red Bank, NJ
One of the few places to dance in Red Bank. The food is good, but over priced. The service and presentation is very good, but I find the place to be very pretentious, and the weekend crowd tends to be of the club persuasion, which isn't my thing (watch your drinks, girls). They do offer a wine club, which affords you discounts and the like.
The biggest fault of this place, is that they think they're located in NYC. News flash!!! You're address says 07701. They have a dress code, and have turned away locals (Bruce Springstien for a baseball hat), who patron these places more than out-of-towners, because of t-shirts or flip flops. Get over yourself, please. If you don't want my money, I'll go next door. No harm, no foul. -
Review from Max S.
I think we have an identity crisis on our hands, people.
This bar thinks it's located in Manhattan. I refuse to pay city prices for drinks served to me in a Jersey lounge. The drinks are overpriced, watered down, and the service here is horrible. If I wanted overpriced, watered down drinks with horrible service - I would have gone to the village or something.
It has 2 floors. First floor is a poorly placed & easily crowded bar. There is a separate dining room where they serve small portions of food & sushi for which they charge massive amounts of $. I guess that's what makes them so posh!
You have to wait in a separate line if you want to go upstairs, depending on how many people there are up there, or how hot you are. When you do make it up there, it is even more packed than the downstairs area. Same crappy bar, same crappy service, same watered down drinks. But there is a DJ and a collection of the most uncomfortable ottomans your tukhas has ever sat on.
Like I said, you are *NOT* a city bar, so stop acting like one. -

New York, NY
Ridiculous. They require 2 forms of ID (your driver's license and a credit card) but when my Canadian friend offered her ID, they asked, "Do we accept Canadian IDs?"
Drinks were expensive. I was paying Manhattan prices for drinks! I bought a guiness (on tap, yum) and a glass of Moet champagne (it came in a tiny, tiny bottle) = $24. TWENTY FOUR DOLLARS?
When I had to make a phone call outside, I asked the bouncer @ the bottom of the stairs if there would be issues with our re-entry and he said, "No, but you'll have to check your coats." What?.. but they're just jackets, not even coats. "You'll still have to check them." We didn't have to the first time. "I don't know how you slipped past then." Okay fine, I'll just make the phone call from here. And whilst on said phone call, he motioned to us that we could go out and come back in without checking our coats. Whatever.
Crowd was mixed -- there were (much) older people, professionals and your typical raucous 20 year olds. Btw, all the men at this place seemingly wore striped shirts. I literally mean all of them.
With that said, the venue itself was nice. We were there for a birthday party so we had the lounge reserved for ourselves. Our server was probably the only redeeming quality of the place. She was very attentive and polite. Also, the music was pretty cool.. a lot of 90s R&B. -

1. this place is extremely inconsistent; i pretty much order the same thing every time (goat cheese salad) which is sometimes DRENCHED in dressing, and other times completely dry.
2. last time my mojito was warm! and the martinis are not well made. I used to get peach martinis and they are way tooooo sweet
3. staff (manager specifically) is extremely rude and pompous; relax dude, ur NOT THAT IMPORTANT
4. lets not forget that this place is IN NEW JERSEY; so let's relax with the city attitude and city prices.
5. after ordering entrees the first couple of times i went there, i realized i should STOP, and stick to appetizers. I usually get the goat cheese salad, the crab cake (not bad- BUT, over the years has cut out more and more crab, and instead used more breading), and 1 or 2 rolls (way too much rice), which is more than enough for 2 people.
6. after my last encounter with the extremely RUDE manager, i will never go back.
7. go across the street to BISTRO or go to DISH (best porkchop ever) -

This is one of my favorite restuarants when I feel like being hip. In the summer most of the patrons can only be classified as beautiful people who come to the Jersey Shore for the weekend. In the off season it is the "cool" locals that want to enjoy Red's eclectic menu.
Last year we closed out one of our projects by have an "End of Project" dinner here. My two co-workers who dined with me loved the place.
The menu contains everything from Sushi to Steak and is excellently prepared. Eating at the bar and people watching is great fun. If it is not too busy the wait staff (bar tenders) will strike up a conversation.
While the atmosphere is casual you will probably want to dress up (think black). That is one of the things that makes it fun. -

We come here for birthday parties... I always find myself saying, "Can we please leave??!!"
RED is for those guys that think they got to be there to be somebody to do something to know somebody to get that thing done for somebody yesterday.. get all that??? No thanks for me...
See you soon Red, but not by choice! -

We were just visiting the Red Bank area and heard this was THE place, so we checked it out for dinner. It was very busy, so reservations are a must. The food was very good, especially the artichoke heart tempura - such an original dish and rather addictive.
For those who don't have a Manhattan elitist chip on their shoulder, this is a good choice if you're in the area. While it's not cheap, I would disagree that it's trying to be anything other than what it is - an upscale, trendy restaurant in an up and coming town. -

Middletown Township, NJ
Food here is always pretty solid but nothing overvly creative on the menu that will have you craving to come back. Most of the entrees are overprices, as well as drinks and wines. This is your typical fish, braised short rib, filet mignon sort of restaurant - no one would ever describe the dining experience as bad, but not "OMG" quality food either.

We had a fantastic meal here a few weeks ago. The ambiance is upscale and metropolitan. It's a great spot for a date, but the meal will cost you a few bucks, so make sure she's worth it. That being said, you get your moneys worth. The guests in my party had meals ranging from steak to fish to pork to vegetarian and - having sampled them all, big portions! - I can attest to how savory and delicious the meals are. Big thumbs up.

Red Bank, NJ
Are you pretentious and shallow? If you are you would love this place. Manhattan prices with the jerk bouncers all in one place. Make sure you have the right shoes and clothes to go upstairs and listen to the DJ play each crappy song for 30 seconds. Shallow people and high prices makes this local stay far away.

Lake Como, NJ
Whenever I read reviews that are nothing like my experience I wonder if employee's wrote it. This place is pricey. No local would step foot in this place to pay $11 a drink, especially in the off season. Other than that the place is alright. Decent music and setting. It is just a shocker when you order 2 drinks and hand the waitress $20 and find out they need more $$. And as far as hot girls going here.... maybe some. But be prepared to not only pay for your $11 drinks, but theirs too.

We went to Red for the first time last week and were very impressed with everything. This is definitely the best place we have been to in Red Bank since moving here earlier this year. I had the Tuna and my wife had the Halibut. Both dishes were very well prepared and worth every penny. It was one of those meals that is not cheap but is worth the price they charge for it. The fish was very fresh and prepared perfectly. We had the "Milk and Cookies" for desert which was actually very good. I would have given 5 stars here but I really don't like the fact they they had sushi. I have a problem with restraints that server sushi that are not Japanese restaurants. I think it is a gimmick that this place just doesn't need. They also have live Jazz on Sunday nights, so if you are looking for a night to go make it a Sunday!

I love Red Bank, it is so cute. The little shops, restaurants and of course a winner with Red. This trendy restaurant/lounge provides great food, drinks and a fun place to meet and greet your friends. I have been here twice, once with a my friend for her birthday and then another time happy hour sponsored by my friend the Pharm rep. Love those, unfortunately now I am the Rep with the not so large budget. But anyway back to the ambiance and food. I had the Tuna...so good served perfectly rare as ordered. The sangria is good, not traditionally made but good. The mojitos are good too. My friend ordered the steak, but she killed it by ordered it well, well done and butterflied. For the happy hour we had rolls of sushi...so good. The cold seafood platter was huge and excellent. The lounge area is really cute and in the warmer months the windows open up and the breeze flows into the room. They have two floors and it does get a bit loud so just enjoy your company and the vibe of the restaurant.
This is a great crowd pleasing place in the heart of Red Bank. Everything was delicious and fun. Make a reservation for dinner though it gets busy. -

Asbury Park, NJ
I was thrilled to find this place! Besides it being in lovely Red Bank, the decor and ambiance was great. I had the lobster bisque, which was very delicious. The best part? We were there on a Monday and they had $20 bottles of wine! We had a Simi Chardonnay for $20! The service was great, it wasn't too crowded, and all four of the people enjoyed their meals too.

I went here for the first time shortly after turning 21 and had a great time. It is expensive but a very cool scene. The bartenders are cool. The place gets absolutely packed. I would go back.

Expensive, but not overpriced for quality. I actually had one of the better steaks in recent memory here. We sampled several appetizers, including prosciutto-wrapped scallops (excellent, but only 2 to an order!), and all were outstanding.

Dinner on a Monday night with friends. Specials on bottles of wine. The food was excellent. Grilled mahi-mahi over potato compote; chilled spiced tuna; braised short ribs; and capellini pealla were all judged excellent. Service was very good and restaurant is very attractive, bordering on elegant. Portions are small and no sides are included. best suited for someone who likes a smaller portion of excellent food. Prices are in line with other restaurants.

Fair Haven, NJ
I had a great time here with some friends. The atmosphere is lively. The food is pretty good. I'd like to try more of the menu, but I'll sample all of the other restaurants in the area that I haven't been to first. I did expect more from the service and food experience. If you are into the Jersey Shore 20-something scene, then hang out after hours.

I'd rate Red as the best restaurant in Red Bank (not that I've tried them all). The food is absolutely outstanding. The atmosphere is very pleasant and certainly conducive to relaxed, fine dining. The service is impeccable. The prices are a bit on the high side but worth it if you want to celebrate or treat yourself.

Review from Kirk N.
Holmdel Township, NJ
Reds...what to say? Been there once, my lady and I celebrated a "breakthrough day" for us both (hard to explain) so we sauntered into Reds having never been there. As remembered we had some rolls which were actually quite good, she a glass of wine and I my typical mineral water.
impressions?....it was very comfortable, staff was pleasant and reliable, what we ate seemed quite tasty alto I certainly could not provide a comprehensive food review based on that. Prices reflect typical Red Bank, NJ eateries...over-priced but I liked this place for what he had and what we went there for...to relax and relate. We were very grateful the place wasn't filled with debutantes screaming into their cell phones being self-important as can be the norm in that neck of the woods. Reds seemed a pleasant break from the hype altho I've been there only once.
I'd go again to hang with friends at Reds, eat a few appetizers. As a rule I rarely spend my dining money in Red Bank knowing there is superior "serious" dining closeby elsewhere without the Red Bank pretense, LA-style hype and over-pricing.
