I had an amazing experience with Red Pelican! I got drumming lessons for my brother, who has special needs, and the teacher was very patient, super nice, and knowledgeable. I liked the manner in which the instructor explained things in detail. He also provided my brother with encouragement and motivation. My brother had a blast! In addition, the registration process was very smooth and everyone is super friendly, approachable, and open minded. I would definitely come back and I highly recommend them.

The team over at Red Pelican Music is wonderful. I took guitar lessons as a kid and have always wanted to get back into it, but never really could find the time or was apprehensive about getting back into it. I've come a long way in just 4 weeks and am excited about the progress I'm making. My teacher is the best, is patient, and always has new and different ways of helping me learn something when I'm struggling with it. Definitely recommend Red Pelican for anyone just starting out or getting back into learning!

Can't believe it took me this long to write a review!
Anyway, I took guitar lessons with Brian and I loved every minute! He's so close to my little studio apartment it was so convenient. Didn't even feel like guitar lessons- more like a jam session :) I had been unsuccessfully trying to teach myself guitar for years now, so I knew a little bit, and he helped me learn some new stuff that has really helped so far! He's very personable, kind, and funny. I only purchased one package of four sessions so far- but I'm saving up for more. I guess that's the only small thing I was sad about. It's a little expensive but it is TOTALLY worth it! I just wish they had a poor college student discount! Haha. I loved that he didn't make me do too much music reading- we went right to tabs after I told him that I didn't like reading music. We had a lot of fun and I can't wait to come back! -

My time taking lessons with Brian at Red Pelican Music was fairly brief- being a full time college student on a strict budget made things difficult, but I was lucky enough to have a few lessons with Brian and I must say his style of teaching is phenomenal. With his instruction, you will be stunned at how quickly you can progress and how fun the lessons are (even when simply covering the basis). Moreover, Brian is an extremely friendly and personable guy and a gifted teacher and musician. And although I only worked with Brian, I would trust his judgment 100% on the other teachers and I bet they are phenomenal as well. Hopefully when I have the money I will be able to take lessons with Red Pelican again!

I started taking regular guitar lessons with Keppie through Red Pelican Music a few months ago- which was basically the first time in (dare I say?) about 15 years! I'd actually tried out other teachers over that time, but wasn't jazzed by any of them enough to come back more than once or twice. Keppie comes straight from teaching at Berkeley School of Music. She's incredibly knowledgeable and personable. She listened to what I was interested in learning/playing, and made that the focus of the lessons. If you want to get deep into theory, she's totally capable of taking you there. If you want to dig deeper into your own material- exploring new patterns and/or chord voicings, she's fantastic at that too. And/or if you just want to learn how to play gorgeous songs by your favorite artist, she'll make that happen! The very fact that I now practice on a regular basis speaks volumes to the quality of the lessons.
As for Red Pelican, Brian the owner is a really nice guy (as well as an apparently phenomenal instructor himself) who will carefully place you with the instructor that he feels would work best. Payment is made really easy- you just buy blocks of four lessons at a time and use them when you can. It's of course preferable to maintain a regular lesson schedule (as you'll progress that much further faster), but the flexibility in this system is key for me, and my schedule can get rather hectic at times.
All in all, five stars all the way. -

I took bass lessons from Brian a couple years ago. What I learned in a short amount of time would have taken me years had I tried it on my own. Although Brian's primary instrument is the guitar, he truly understands the bass and approaches it like a bass player and not like a guitar player pretending to play bass. He's taught me quite a bit about theory and ear training and really helped me expand my appreciation of music. Brian's a really cool and approachable guy to boot. I'd be happy to show off for him to show how far I've come in the last couple of years!

I've tried learning to play many instruments, and I know how hard and frustrating it can be. I have been taking lessons from Brian for about a year and a half and have seen awesome results. Red Pelican is about teaching you the music you love while also walking you through the theory. The teachers are extremely educated and talented - they put you in the driver seat to be in control of your own learning. You want to learn it, they can teach it. Highly recommended.
