Wow. Just...   wow.

We only knew about this place because it was featured in the Seattle episode of "Man v. Food." If I found out about it after my trip to Seattle, I would have been seriously pissed because this is one of the best burgers I have ever had in my life.

During our brief weekend trip to Seattle, we decided that we had to try this place. Adam Richman just eats it so well, and makes it look so scrumptious. This location was the closest to downtown and our hotel, so we rode a taxi on over. For whatever reason, they dont like you using cell phones in the place, fyi.

We ordered regular cheeseburgers and an order of onion rings. According to Man v. Food, they were the best onion rings ever. Well, let me tell you, they WERE some of the best onion rings ever. EVER. I've had my fair share of tasty fried food in my life and these were absolutely delicious. I have no idea what they put in their batter, but it was sweet and spicy at the same time, with lots of crunch and hefty slices of onions. They were so good, we got another order! Now, the burger. It was very simple- beef patty, melted cheese, lettuce, tomato. However, for all its simplicity, it was simply the best. There was something about the way the cheese melted and the deliciousness of the patty that was absolutely amazing. So amazing, that my man wants to make a trip back to Seattle JUST so we can eat there again. He's been kicking himself everyday since we got back for not ordering the bacon cheeseburger, which is apparently the best here.

We were actually pretty sad when the dining experience was over. That's just how good it was.

Nearly everyone I know loves this place, but I really don't understand the hype.

The burgers are nothing special. I've tried the chicken burger and the verde burger, and while they weren't bad by any means, neither was memorable.

I hear the milkshakes are good here, but I have no desire to suck down 600 Calories when I'm already eating a freakin' burger, so that's a moot point with me.

To top it off, this place is cash/check only, and if I'm going to go out of my way to obtain cash, the food better be unique, exceptionally delicious, or preferably both. Unfortunately, Red Mill doesn't fit that criteria, so I'll most likely take my debit card and pay for a better burger elsewhere.

I lived a block away from this place... so I have been there on their good days and bad days.

For the most part their service is pretty good. Friendly people, but every now and then I get a little poop head teenager. Yea... it happens.

Food wise... it's GOOD! That is why I go back. I have had some better burgers in my life, but not as consistent. I mean, you go there and you're guaranteed a good burger every single time. Onion rings? To die for. Seriously . There shakes too... they are awesome. Super original flavors, and hand mixed. Good stuff.

This place rocks any time of year. Hours kind of suck, but thats what makes them great. They make you wait... they know they rock and have good food that IS worth waiting for.

GOOD eats.

The food is good (minus the onion rings), but the place has the atmosphere of a Taco Bell. The veggie chili verde was a good veggie option to my hubby's bacon cheeseburger.

How can you not love a restaurant where the staff, some of whom look like they cannot even drink legally yet, are cranking CCR?

Doesn't hurt that they have about the best burgers around.  (I am not a beef eater, but you'll never hear me saying "no" to a chicken verde or chicken club sandwich from Red Mill.)  Doesn't hurt that they have yummy fries -- which I swear they overfilled because they knew two of us were sharing one order.  Doesn't hurt that I can order a delicious peanut butter shake -- and justify doing so because it is high in protein.

All this for very reasonable prices.  Staff are always friendly.  It can get overcrowded.  (I prefer the Magnolia store to the Phinney Ridge one just because it is generally less hectic.)  But the food is so good, it is worth the wait.

I stopped in tonight after a long (12 hour+) day at work.  I walked in with a headache and feeling tired and grumpy.  I walked out relaxed and refreshed, a happy belly full of chicken verde burger, still sipping my (very thick) shake, and bopping to the music.

Everything here was awesome.  I got the red onion veggie burger, so good.  The fries and the onion rings were also very good.  The one downside is that it was very busy when we came and there is a very limited amount of seating because its so small.  I highly recommend Red Mill burgers, the burgers are decently priced and very good.  Recommended in small groups or to go.  Also, not for the impatient, we had to wait a good 10 minutes to order because the line went out the door and another 10-15 to get our order.

Also, cash only :P

I heard about Red Mill Burgers from the Food Network. It is one reason I was inspired to take a foodie adventure to Seattle. I am not really a Hamburger eater but man did this place make it seemed amazing. Our friends drove us to this location since its the closest to Downtown Seattle and not as packed as the other location apparently.

The inside of the restaurant is nothing special but the burger sure are delicious! I had the deluxe burger with some of their famous onion rings. A friend got their bbq chicken and another chose the chicken with peppers. I had a bite and the chicken ones were tasty too!

Their special sauce really made the difference but what I think made them great, was the bread. Just the write kind f bread, this and soft/fresh. Seriously I enjoyed this burger very much. Usually they make me sick after or just stay with me you know? But not this burger!!!

I also did get a glimpse of the famous bacon stack. Crazy and a bit gross.

It was worth the drive over there!

I also had heard of Red Mill Burgers from the Food Network.  Had also driven by numerous times, and for some reason never stopped. Glad I took the time.  They were very busy but they are good at what they do and you really don't have to wait very long at all.

The food was excellent.  Good amount of fries, wonderful shakes and really good onion rings.   A bit pricey for burger fare and they only take cash but you will get a great quality burger.  Only wish they had a couple more locations :-)

It took me awhile to try this place, but I won't let too much time pass before I go back. Namely one reason : PB&J milkshakes; I had a sip of my friends since I had ordered a coke, and man oh man  was it good.

I get so caught up over that shake that I almost forgot to write about the burger.  I had a double bacon cheeseburger and onion rings.  I can't think of many other places that I've had a better burger at(the only places that come to mind is quinn's and my friend steves bbq).  The onion rings were awesome, make sure you get an order next time.  Crispy, hot, a bit salty and overall just awesome.  But please please try the PB&J shake.  I implore you.

I endorse this message.

Red Mill really reflects the essence of the Seattle area - locals go - and visitors should too if you really want to taste the character of the Northwest.  I go with good friends whenever in the City. The location is convenient and reachable from any neighborhood or downtown.

Stick to the basics and you won't be disappointed. And remember - leave your cell phone in the car before you enter! That, in itself, is a 5-star compliment to the establishment.

I'm drooling on my keyboard as I'm writting this!.... walk into a stack, yes, stack of bacon, thick and just the right amount of crispiness...  their onion rings are the best ever! think of Suncrisp Chips wrapped around a big juicy onion!... now to the burgers... super juicy... and full of flava'... kissed by fire... I loved the Verde Beef Burger with peppers and their red mill sauce... Don't go for chicken, come on', don't be a whimp... go for red meat!

I want to love it because it is such a local institution for so many people, but there is more parking outside my house than here to start off with.  I had the verde cheeseburger, fries and a soda to complete my Red Mill experience.  The burger was pretty juicy, nothing special but the amount of meat in that burger was so small in size and flavor profile when compared to everything in burger.  The fries were the best part of meal actually, perfectly sized for me and just done right, no ketchup needed.  It was a good and satisfying meal but between the lack of parking and the price, and the lack of beef flavor it would have to be 3.5 half stars if that.

I tried this place recently after seeing rave reviews on Yelp. I am new to Seattle and my wife and I were craving a burger so up the hill we went.  Red Mill is tiny! not much space so it can get crowded quickly.  Not the cleanest place either.  To sum it up: it was good- not worthy of five starts but not bad.

Pros: The burger was pretty good. I had the Red Mill one, and my wife had an awesome green pepper one. I liked hers better.  The onion rings were also tasty.  They talk about the "red mill" sauce which I didn't find that distinctive - I guess I was expecting something with a little more tang or zip to it.  I would not call it the best burger I have ever had - not even close.

Cons;  Small size. Lots of people. I found it annoying that the ketchup bottles were empty on my table and everyone elses. When I went up to get more, the servers handed me a bunch of the packets. Cmon people - keep the ketchup bottles filled.

Will I go back? probably to take those out of town guests who have heard about it and want to go. I will have to give it another try and see if the hype justifies it.

So, what kind of idiot would go to Red Mill as a vegetarian?

Hi, y'all.  Actually, my wife was really Jones-ing for a burger, and I really love her, so I was willing to do my part.  When one is really Jones-ing for a burger, this is where one goes.  (It helps that I looked on the website first and noticed that they actually have three veg-burger options. Somehow I didn't notice that when I was coming here as a beef eater.)

The Verde Veg Burger is perfectly fine.  Bun is well above average, patty is nothing special, fire-roasted peppers had a nice quiet little smoky kick, lettuce/tomato/Red Mill sauce all what you'd expect, and the overall effect was pleasant and filling. French fries were surprisingly forgettable. But, the star of the meal? Onion Rings. Who knew? They were great -- somehow, like eating a peppery doughnut-shaped vegetable pakora.

One other thing. To the person who expressed concern earlier this week about "5 measly onion rings for an order?" Criminy! How many of those could one eat? If you ate a burger and 8 or 9 of those, you'd have trouble making it back to Virginia Mason Medical Center before your abdomen exploded. I'm just saying.

Finally, I should also note that my wife was extremely happy with her real burger. And that's a good thing.

Maybe, I'm missing something here! I expected much better with all the hype over this place after the Man vs Food episode. General appearance usually sets the tone and from the look of the place they need a few lessons in cleaning. The counter help some how got confuse with our order and left stuff off. Then when I asked about my order I got an attitude from one of the counter girls!!! These days with the economy the way it is you only get one chance to impress and that chance just went out the door!

One of the reasons I went up to Seattle for Spring Break last year was because of this place. I love bleu cheese and I love bacon so naturally I ordered the Bleu Cheese 'N Bacon burger. Those two flavors worked so well together that I can feel my taste buds tingling just thinking about it.

The onion rings were the best I've ever had! And I'm not just saying that. Crispy perfection has been attained at this establishment. None of that biting into a ring only to have the entire onion get pulled out with it. Onion in every bite!

I will come back here every single time I find myself in Seattle.

Summary: 5/5 stars
+Bacon. Bleu cheese. Battlestar Galactica.
+Best onion rings ever
+Burgers are very good
-Cash only

Ask me to make a list of the best burgers I've ever had, and Red Mill will not make the list. They're not bad, but I've definitely had better. I don't know who they had to bribe to get on all the 'best of' lists they're on. Maybe I just had the wrong burger? (Bacon and Blue) Maybe I wasn't hungry enough? And their fries are mediocre at best. I'll try them again if I happen to be in the neighborhood and am hungry, but it's not something I'd make a pilgrimage for.

Party of five, didn't wait too long in line or for our food during lunch hour on a Saturday.

Burgers were huge and delish.
We all order the double bacon deluxe.
I can't tell you what their "sauce" tastes like because there was a tiny bit on my giant burger. I put ketchup and mustard on mine to make up for the lack of sauce.

The french fries were okay and the onion rings were good, BUT they litterally only gave us 5 measly onion rings for an order. There's no way I would've paid that much for onion rings only to get 5.

I liked that they had so many different flavors of milkshakes, so we could share. Unfortunately, the shakes weren't smooth- more like icey.

Bottom line, go for a huge, great burger, get extra sauce, and skip the sides.

Looking for a good burger on Saturday night my roommate and I thought we could not go wrong with Red Mill....boy were we wrong!  This had to be the worst burgers we have had in a long time.  We were excited they were open til 9 and showed up around 8:30.  I was disappointed they had no bacon left but no big deal.  We ordered 2 deluxes, fries and a side of tarter sauce to go.  From there it just went down hill...we got home and the tarter was missing, oh an they charged us for that, I asked before and after I got the bag if it was in there and was told " Yes ".  Then we asked for one without onion and again they failed to do that.  Finally the buns were soaked with grease and the burgers looked awful and tasted undercooked.  I figured we got there late and service might go down a little but it was just horrible!!!  I used to like Red Mill but for now I will think twice...no make that 3 times before going back.   Should of went to burger king I would of been more satisfied.

After planning a trip to Seattle, we saw Red Mill featured on the show Man vs Food and decided we had to try it for ourselves.

I ordered the Bleu Cheese N' Bacon Burger, onion rings, french fries, and fresh squeezed sparkling lemonade.

The first thing that I noticed is the great bread used for the burger, it was soft and slightly sweet.  But in the end the bacon really was the star and I couldn't imagine the burger without it.  They also managed to make perfectly crispy and light onion rings, which were not greasy in the least.  However, the french fries and lemonade were pretty standard.  Next time I'll have to try the shakes.

To be prepared, come with cash and try to show-up early.  Although the food comes out quickly, it can be difficult (even cutthroat) to find seating.

Overall, it was definitely the bacon that makes this better-than-your-average-burger and it's worth a visit if you're in the Seattle area.

I had a good feeling when I first walked in to Red Mill and was greeted by a two-foot tall tower of bacon.  My suspicions were confirmed after devouring a delicious burger.  I've been back ten times and they have never disappointed me.  If this isn't on your short list of best burgers in Seattle, you and I are at an impasse.

The lettuce is always fresh and the tomatoes are always juicy.  The spicy sauce gives the burger a mild kick without creating a distraction.

The Bacon Deluxe with cheese is so damn good that it's hard to think of a way it could improve.  My only suggestion is the bun.  They could probably find nicer bread if they tried.

With that in mind, I tried the Red Onion Jam Burger on my last visit.  It's served on a kaiser bun that is better than the regular bun.  The burger itself is worse than the Bacon Deluxe and it doesn't take a genius to figure out why: no bacon.  At Red Mill, the bacon is the glue that holds the burger together.  That massive tower of bacon is there for a reason.

OK, so, a lot of people say "best burgers in town," and that just ain't true.  I wish it was, I really do, because the price is right and there's a line out the door and service is great and the atmosphere is cozy and &c.  And if what you want is a -generic burger- -- cheese, ketchup, mustard, lettuce, mayo, just the facts, ma'am -- that "best burger" label might even be true.  It's better than what you get out of a local diner, certainly.

But when I hear the words "best burgers in town" I want something that blows me away.  I don't care how much I'm paying for it or where it's served or any of that rigmarole.  I want it to be a little party in my mouth.  And Red Mill was certainly good, but it wasn't that.  What it was, was a solid burger that I would order again, although I wouldn't make a special trip to do it.

I had the verde burger and I was more than a little disappointed by the "signature Anaheim peppers" -- it was definitely not enough heat; in fact, it was un-noticeable to my naked taste buds.  Maybe I've just cut my teeth on spicier things.  My girlfriend had the bacon bleu cheese burger and it was exactly as advertised, with good (not great) bacon and tasty bleu.  The burger patties themselves were cooked well enough, but indistinguishable from most burger patties.  The fries were fries, a cut above your average fast food place but nothing to write home about.  The onion rings were, sadly, a little bit burnt, but still edible.  The shake might have been the best thing about the whole meal, a chocolate-banana shake which was, incidentally, not on the menu, but is proof that they do special requests.

The price was another excellent selling point, since "cheap" is always a draw.  For about $8 you can get burger/fries/soda and in these recessionary times, it's hard to go wrong with that.

Overall, there's no reason not to go here if you live nearby, and it's probably worth waiting in line or traveling some distance to judge it for yourself, since a lot of people you meet will be raving about it.  Might even be worth being a regular if it's a five minute drive.  But I'd save your time and money for other better burger places if you live closer to them.  I can think of at least two off the top of my head, but I won't insult Red Mill by mentioning them by name here.

Went there today with my girlfriend for dinner. The line was almost out the door but they have a good system and keep things moving. We ordered the Verde Chicken Burger and the Double Bacon Cheese along with some onion rings.

Verde Chicken Burger: Good flavor, not too spicy but enough there to notice it, chicken was juicy. Excellent chicken burger, she would order again.

Double Bacon Cheese: Very good burger, meat was cooked to perfection and the bacon hit the spot. Only complaint with this was that some bites were better than others, BUT I would definitely order this burger again.

ONION RINGS: These are simply the BEST onion rings either of us has put into our mouths. The breaded shell is amazing and the onion actually melted in our mouths. IMO these are so good, whoever orders from red mill should automatically order the O-Rings.

Overall this place is a must go for any seatllite or visitor to the city.

This place has fabulous burgers!!! Their fries and onion rings are also unreal. The loaded veggie burger was so good, as was the verde chicken burger. This is your simple burger joint that offers a unique twist on the classics if you are looking for something a little bit different... the shakes here are supposedly the best, especially the boysenberry, which I will be back to try in the near future.

Cash only and the line can get very long, especially around lunchtime...

just a quick update to say that now that I found out that they're anti-cell phone AND don't take credit cards, I second my own review.  seriously, get with the times.  what the hell kind of restaurant doesn't take credit cards?  and aren't we past that whole "no cell phone" thing now?  cell phones are part of our lives and you're not going to change that....it's like saying "no computers!, they're bad!".  um, whatever.

still crappy burgers.  no flavor and they rely on the toppings (American cheese, really??) for any flavor you might get.

Possibly best burger in the world.

Even if you don't partake, the sight of the mile-high stack of bacon on the grill is breathtaking. Try the green chile burger, its pretty good. And mind the no cell phone sign. It's their law. Respect it.

Ok, their other locations are pretty good even when under pressure but when I arrived at this location I was verbally berated by the "manager" who told me that my order was "too large" and that I was holding up his business and other's orders.  While I can totally appreciate the difficulty of large orders, I always thought more business was a good thing.
I ordered 12 burgers 1.5 hours before I arrived, per telephone contact, and was told when I arrived that businesses were not allowed to order all at once.
When I told the manager that I had ordered 1.5 hours ahead of time and my contact on the phone was ok with the order, I was told "too bad."  Feet were dragged, any and all delays were inexplicably encountered, and when finally purchasing product it was as if I was doing them a favor.  Since when has more/large business become a bad thing?

The burgers are good, but the onion rings are sublime. I can't get over them. They come up hot and fresh, and the seasoning is infallible. These onion rings could be the muse for a novel, they are that good. I want to write poetry every time I eat one.

Dear Red Mill,

I arrived at your location and was happy to find a parking spot.  Starving I skipped around to the front of your building, only to see a line out the door.  Slightly dismayed, and hearing my tummy grumble, I thought to myself you better be worth it.

I spent my time in line deciding between beef and chicken.  You had veggie options, but I love meat a bit too much for that.  Fries or onion rings?  So many choices!

I got your cheeseburger with bacon and some onion rings.  Your bacon was amazing.  There were so many slices on my burger.  The "Mill Sauce" was delicious.  The onion rings had just the right amount of grease.  I was so content, despite my wait in line.

I left with a fully tummy and hoping for an excuse to come back and visit you again sometime soon.  I really want to try your chicken.  And I will forever remember you only take cash.

I originally gave this place 5 stars but then the Lunchbox lab got only 4.  They are both terrific in their own right, but I figured it is only fair to bring it down to 4 stars.

I am on a personal mission to try out all the burger places in Seattle to find my go-to burger place.  Red Mill is on many a best burger in town list not to mention having a  small spot on the Travel Channel's  "Man vs. Food" Seattle episode (can you tell what kind of programs I watch?).  Anyhow, I got the burger with the green chilles and pepper jack cheese.  There was a pile nay, a small 'lincoln log' house made of constructed of bacon next to the grill so I opted to upgrade my burger and add some crispy bacon.  It was very good.  The onion rings were also quite good.  Is it the best in town? not sure yet.  I still have several more places to check off before the finally tally is up.  This place is good, affordable and apparently kid friendly as I was almost trampled by the numerous tots running around the place.

I can't endorse the Red Mill Burger Joint.

The burger itself is fine.  Definitely not bad, but nothing special (Also, any burger joint that I rate highly will not only have a great burger but also have that certain something that sets it apart).  I can follow the rules.  You won't see me ordering substitutions at Father's Office.  You will see me not complaining about a lack of tomatoes at Apple Pan.

I can tolerate the "no cell phone" sign although it contributes to the condescending attitude of the establishment.  I (and most of the patrons that come here) get it and don't need to be reminded that using your cell phone in a crowded room is wack.

I hate to come on here and complain about the service.  On Sundays, they close at 8, and I knew I would be cutting it close.  So out of concern of my goal to fulfill my desire to eat a hamburger and maybe  even a shake, I called ahead to verify when they close.  I was assured that they take orders until 8.  Also, they didn't offer me the phone ordering option which would have been nice for what comes next.

Anyway, I arrived right around 7:50pm and when I got there the chain was up saying they're closed.  I went inside and asked if they wouldn't mind taking my order since I know their burgers are good and the guy said no.  I asked again, and he pointed out to me (with a sigh) that it was 8 (it was now maybe 7:52) and that they've been "slammed for 45 minutes".  I think complaining about being busy when working at a burger place as hyped as The Red Mill as a reason why you're closed before closing time is not a way to gain sympathy from your clientele.  I am sure the the at least ten people who, like me, showed up on time just to be turned away as well would agree.  To some, it's a small detail, but to me, it's not the kind of place I want to spend my hard earned money.

I will continue on my quest in this city to find a good hamburger.  Latona Pub is the best thing so far (and I believe I've tried all the usual suspects, please send me in the right direction if I'm wrong) but considering the talent (and hype) available in this town, you'd think it wouldn't be so difficult.

I don't get the hype.  The last time we went there we were meeting some friends who had seen Red Mill on a Food Network show about things you have to try before you die.  Red Mill is a good burger, I'll give them that, but I think one could die a peaceful death without having experienced one of their burgers.   We waited in a 20-minute line out the door in the freezing cold.  People, its not *that* good.

That being said, it's better than your average fast food burger.  Add onion rings and a shake, yum.  And bring cash!

I go to the Red Mill on Phinney, I love the Red Mill on Phinney (even if it does have long lines, blah).

So one time, I went to this Red Mill and I was super excited about the fact that it wasn't crowded!

This sounds really stupid and odd, but the food, while still good, did not taste quite the same. I actually crave some of the things at the other Red Mill, in a way that I would imagine junkies crave smack. But I did not feel the same way about the food here. I would go back, if I were in the area and i was hungry, it just hasn't happened yet.
