"Self serve frozen yogurt?! What a brilliant concept! Ever since Miss V told me this place was coming, I've been eagerly awaiting it's…" read more »
I've only been here once and I've only tried the green tea yogurt with no toppings. It has a bang in the first bite, but it grew on me real fast. It was delicious all by itself and I didn't want to ruin such a great first experience with peebles or fruit. This is a nice addition to downtown. I do miss Neotte though, where did they go?
I can't decide what's yummier - the owner of the franchise, Yul Kwon from Survivor, or the frozen yogurt. I hadn't jumped on board the new Pinkberry frozen yogurt train until Red Mango came along. Before Red Mango I liked fro-yo a lot, but I liked it 80s old school style. I tried Fraiche and thought it was too tangy like regular yogurt.
Enter Red Mango.
I got a small ($2.95) original flavor with mango ($1 per topping), possibly because the name "Red Mango" made me crave it. The price is a little steep (basically $4), but oh - does it taste good. When our mouths weren't full of frozen yogurt-y goodness, my friend and I spoke of how this was the best fro-yo we'd ever had.
Best fro-yo AND best Survivor contestant ever.

Super duper creamy tart frozen yogurt with lots of fruit toppings! Red Mango is delish, although I was disappointed by two things: they only have 2 flavors, original or green tea, and the prices are pretty steep. The small with one topping will cost you $4, but the bigger issue is that their small is half the size than the small at other frozen yogurt places (ie: Fraiche)
However, the taste is much superior to that of Fraiche's in my opinion; much tastier! I would come here again =)
Basic rundown:
small $2.95
topping $1
It's okay to like Red Mango, really! First of all, you must only get the original yogurt... non of this "maybe i'll try green tea" nonsense. But I'd rather go to Fraiche also located downtown. I can see how some people will prefer this taste of fro yo but I think if you're really in it for the taste of true frozen yogurt, you will prefer Fraiche hands down. They do have a good selection of toppings including mochi which last time I checked, Fraiche does not have, but Red Mango does not have shaved chocolate.
My biggest complaint about this place is the inefficiency. Did they not hire a professional to design the interior layout and movement of people? It sure seems that way as even the people serving you are laid out in the most ineffective manner to best serve the customer. Location is good, but maybe a little too good. Being in University, it's going to take a little effort to find a parking spot and walk over. Maybe a sign perpendicular to the street would make it a little easier for first timers to see where it is when driving down University as well.
It's good. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I won't go or won't eat it. It's a little on the expensive side but what do you expect from a place like this in downtown Palo Alto. I'll almost say it's worth the price, BUT "Meh, I've experienced better."
I drove an hour out to try this place. Not bad. Not as tart as I was hoping for but good nonetheless. I really like the decor - it's really red inside. Trendy looking. We came here on a Saturday night and there was no line even though there were a lot patrons. I think this place works very efficiently.
The yogurt is pretty good although I'm still a bit biased since I'm a big fan of Pinkberry. I still don't think anything quite compares yet. Their mochi is really soft and sweet. Definitely try it! Price? I think we spent like five something dollars for a medium with three toppings.

I have been waiting for Red Mango to hit the Bay Area since trying it in New York. When I heard that it opened in Palo Alto, I couldn't believe it. It is definitely worth the 45 minute drive out to Palo Alto. The yogurt is tart enough and they didn't skimp on my fruity pebbles and blackberries. We even tried the Yogurt Blend with coconut and pineapples and it was YUMMO! Service was okay, a little slow but worth the wait.
Will definitely go back again... Move aside Rynos and Yogurt Harmony of the East Bay. My #1 yogurt spot is here!
The catch about this place is the owner, the Korean guy from Survivor. He used his $1 mil to start this place. The workers are young, but nice and efficient. The yogurt is good, but the yogurt at Fraiche tastes better. The small is $2.95 and the small green tea is $3.95. And of course the toppings are additionaI would have gotten the coconut topping but it was not toasted, so I passed on it. The Fraiche yogurt has a tingly sensation that tasted more fresh, and Red Mango has the flat sugary taste. However, Fraiche is not as well run, but they tell me that they are trying. Anyway, based on taste itself, I'll see you at Fraiche.

After a friend raved about this place, I had to go and try it out. I have to say I was not too impressed with the place. First of all, the service is VERY VER SLOW. If the slow service was not enough, the yogurt is expensive and then EXTRA for some toppings. Fortunately I had some nice fresh strawberries that we had packed for my daughter so we skipped getting toppings.
They need to get more people working in this store and serve that yogurt faster !!
So after a movie at the Stanford Theatre, I decided to treat myself further by checking out Red Mango. Located across from Borders, this place was pretty packed, but no line out the door so I was clear.
They only have 2 flavors of frozen yogurt (plain tart and green tea) and you don't get to do it yourself like at most other fro-yo places, but I kinda like that.
I think the whole "(self)control issue" comes to play when you're at other fro-yo places that are self-serve. I like having the power to do it all on my own and put whatever I want as much as I want. But I realize that this is a childlike mentality and I don't know about you, but I think quality goes downhill when it's self-serve.
Anyway, I got the regular tart with 3 toppings - blueberries, mango, and mochi. First thought? $1.50 for 3 toppings??? I could go to Yogurtland and get toppings galore for that price!
Once ordered, you wait for them to call your name to pick it up like at Starbucks. Got mine quickly and looks pretty enough. Little skimpy on the toppings for the price I paid (and yogurt itself was pretty pricey as well) but all the negative feelings of paying $5+ for a medium size with 3 skimpy toppings went out of my head at the first taste.
CREAAAAAAAAMMMMMY. So silky and creaaaaaammy and white and delicious. Fruit was ripe and fresh. Mochi was.. well, mochi. But the yogurt! Oh how it tasted so yogurt-y. I felt almost healthy by eating this. It was kinda like soft ice cream... but not as thick. Really smooth and creaaaaaaaamy. WTH have I been missing? Yogurtland's fro-yo is damn icy compared to this genius. Damnit. I'm going to have to come back here. I've tasted the goods and will need my fix.
If there was any other indication that this was delish, I got it when I was walking out and spooning the deliciousness into my mouth on University. Some random girl dramatically pointed at me/my yogurt while I was eating/walking and said "LOOK! THERE! I WANT THAT!" haha.

With all the hype about Red Mango, Anna L. and I decided to make a trip out there after the Mandaloun Yelp event. We bumped into some other Yelpers (Mary T. and Kim D.) and snacked on plain tart froyo with blueberries and granola (very healthy, I must say) with Danvin R. and his friend, Frankie.
It reminded me of the creamy texture from Tartini's but it's not as tart. A bit pricey as it came out to a little over $5 and it's not self-serve and there's a limit on toppings.
Cute decor inside. Like Anna L. said, not much seating but people are coming and going so you may be able to snag some stools or a table.

A bit on the pricey side for yogurt. But I have to say, it is good. I liked the medium green tea yogurt with out any toppings and the medium original yogurt with mochi balls, blueberries, and kiwi.
Great location, not much seating.
I really liked the original flavor which was only slightly tart. Didn't even try to go for the green tea flavor because I am not a big fan of green tea froyo, AND it was almost a buck more! F U C that.
My only wish would be that they gave at least two more flavor options.
I ventured out to this spot with Jen S. (my partner in crime) along with some other yelpers after the Yelp event at Mandaloun. We tried the Blueberries with Granola. MMMM... TASTY squared. Prefer this over Fraiche, but for those that prefer soy, I guess you wouldn't come here.
The best part was sitting on one side of the window and pretending to eat with Kim D., Mary T. and their guests outside. Stalking is fun. Try it sometime.

The very first friend I made in San Mateo is leaving. I've known for a few months but wow how time flies. We both can't believe it. Since she's leaving in a couple days I figured to get her favorite Japanese food for dinner, and also I headed down to Palo Alto to get some Satura Cakes for dessert. That together with her favorite sweet white wines should make for a good farewell.
Anyway so what does this have to do with Red Mango? Well yeah I was getting to that... since I was in Palo Alto, I figured I'd stop by here and try their froyo. I remember at Linda T's going away get-together a few week's back a bunch of us went to Fraiche and others went to Red Mango. While I had a good time chatting outside with a bunch of folks I hadn't seen in ages, the Fraiche froyo was just okay and I was left curious what I was missing at Red Mango.
So today I came here and tried the green tea and plain tart froyo. I should have gotten them separated, not swirled because the flavors get all mixed up. For toppings I got blueberries and mochi balls. The green tea was kinda weird tasting. First time trying it so I don't know if its weird or I'm weird. The plain tart was lightly tart and quite creamy. Nice actually. The blueberries were fresh and the mochi soft. I'm glad I made it down here, it *is* better than Fraiche... 3.5 stars for the froyo, +1 star for the helpful and friendly cashier girl with a cheerful smile.
It'll be weird not seeing my friend around town. Goodbye M-chan, good luck with your pursuits. I can't believe its been two years and wow you're leaving.

"Hi, I'm Yul, the owner" I nudged my mom, "I think I know him." Of course you dolt, everyone does. It is the Asian guy who won Survivor. I must confess that I've never seen the show but heard that the Yellow people won the race wars.
I tried the original without toppings to really taste the yogurt. It was pretty good, fresh and tangy. I sampled the green tea and it tasted pretty much like the original to me. Hmmm, must develop palate more and sample much more fro-yo...

I am totally in love with Red Mango!
There was a line when we got there, but they were pretty fast. We got in line right away without even looking at the toppings, so I relied on the menu that's posted on the wall. I later found out that not all of the toppings were listed on the menu because I didn't order mochi as one of my toppings!
The small 4oz yogurt was $2.95 and the medium 8oz was $3.95. They also had green tea flavored, which was more expensive. I got the medium size (since it was only a dollar more) along with 3 toppings ($1.50). I got strawberries, blueberries and mango.
The yogurt was so yummy! Slightly tart and sweet! The texture was thick and creamy and did not melt right away. The fruit toppings that I got were super fresh! No frozen fruit here. We even saw some workers hauling around a crate of strawberries to be cut. The mangos and blueberries were super ripe, but the strawberries were a little sour.
That cup of yogurt was by far the best I've ever had. Refreshing and light along with super ripe fruits. What more can a girl ask for. Actually, if only Red Mango were closer to me...

red mango is the perfect prescription for this crazy ass heat wave. there's usually a line but the people working here are efficient and the line moves rather quickly. i prefer the original flavor and it's not too tart so it doesnt clash with any of the fruit toppings.
First things first: I really didn't like the layout of this Red Mango--when you walk in, you totally just pass by the topping section and straight to the cashier; so pretty much, you can't really see the toppings unless you decide to stand by that window and get in other people's way.
But anywho, I AM SO GLAD I MADE A TRIP HERE--the whole 20 miles from Campbell! Unlike the Red Mango in Westwood that recently RIPPED YOU OFF by giving you practically NOTHING for a small, the one here stack it UP. I got a large (yes I'm a fatty) and I ate the whole thing ...ok, my boyfriend helped me. But still, I should also give him credit for waving at Yul Kwon who walked over and asked for our names and shook our hands WHEE! Haha, I'm such a sucker when it comes to people on TV.. never mind Survivor, a show that I've never watched. lol

Fro-yo girl here. With almost 200 reviews, it seems like no one has reviewed the Red Mango blender yet (the fro-yo smoothie). I've never seen anyone order one either.
Well, I finally had a blender (regular size, original yogurt w/ your choice of three toppings, $4.95) and it's delicious. I noticed that they put a ton of fro-yo in the the blender (it comes directly from the soft serve machine) and I chose to have raspberries, blackberries and blueberries blended in. It really is a smoothie (I wasn't sure how soft it would be) that you can drink with a straw. What's nice is that you can really taste the yogurt. I'm pretty sure they use fresh fruit and they add ice.
You don't have to choose all fruit toppings either. I saw they had a new sign with suggested topping combinations for the blenders and some have cereal, chips and other non-fruit toppings. I was afraid to try the mochi balls though. How would they taste after being pulverized? Hmm. Seems strange. I will try it next time though.
Also, it is human nature to want to get in line right away, so I always forget to look at the toppings. The toppings are in an awkward place!
You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Kim D. and I exchanged identities last night. But we ended up getting the same size (medium) and topping combination (mango, strawberry, capn crunch). We're the same person, but he has better hair (you should really check him out).
Cal and I actually shared one, while Mai D. and Kim each got one. We were able to snag a choice table outside, but then some people decided to break the law (!) by smoking at the table next to us. We were slightly bothered, but were too into our froyo and our conversation to really care. Then, one of the lovely ladies working at red mango came out and politely told them to stop. I thought that was pretty cool. Good froyo and a kick ass staff deserves no less than five stars.

I absolutely loooooooove the place!
That's all I have to say........
SOOOOOOOOOOOOO...
Just like the hype of Pinkberry, Red Mango garnered so much hype on Yelp that I really had to go and have a go.
I didn't know they had a location in the Row which is right around the corner from my house - I'll have to try that out.
The girl at the counter looked at me like I was an idiot because me and Mary T. switched our name tags after the Yelp event just because we thought it'd be funny. But I tried it and to say I was impressed. The tart original which I got with Cap N' Crunch, strawberry and mango was good. It had a really distinct and clean flavor.
However, it doesn't compare really to the lightness of a Pinkberry deliciousness for me. But until they can make it up here, I will learn to love mangos that are red. The decor is lovely, I wished they would have splashed some more red across the walls for me to have the effect. But it was clean, minimalist and nice - three qualities I love.
A note, the toppings come oddly here - it seems that they do not increase with the size that you get. Like medium size doesn't have enough toppings to compensate for it and I'm sure a large doesn't either (I got a medium). In that case, I might have stuck to the small in that case. Or you know what...
If I was smart, I'd bring a bag of Cap N' Crunch with me and eat it at my leisure.
Hmmmm... Red Mango! Give me my fat girl options!

Drove by this place several times and noticed a crowd every time. I had to stop by and check out what this place was all about. Needless to say, it was an extremely disapointing experience.
I tried the original flavor with Mango toppings. The yogurt didn't seem very cold and had a strange resemblance to cream cheese. I'm not a big fan of cream cheese and Mango. After trying to put down several bites, I couldn't take anymore and threw it away.
I really don't get what's the big deal about this place? If you want great yogurt on the peninsula I would drive to San Carlos and eat at Harmony.
My coworkers love this place. I think it's alright. The regular yogurt is better than the green tea yogurt and I'm not just saying this because the green tea yogurt costs a dollar more. Since the yogurt is a bit tart, I tend to get some of the non-tart toppings to compliment, like mango and chocolate.
way better than pinkberry. tart, but not too tart. prices are as expected. service has always been quick...and we usually go on saturday. gonna try their green tea compared to pinkberry's next...
Yet another froyo establishment.
SUUUPER original Mr. Survivor.
Yes, I'm still giving Red Mango four stars. Cuz it's rather difficult to f*ck up yogurt, that's why! Every berry imaginable, cereal toppings, plain or green tea yogurt. Yadda yadda.....
All I'm going to say is this: the manufacturers of those mochi balls are making bank. All the b*school in the world wouldn't amount to that kind of profit. I'm so jealous.

My girlfriends and i stopped by here to contemplate where our night was headed. Result? An hour in Red mango's cozy chairs in the corner that we scored. Yes, stuffing out faces and plopping our tushes down only to have the most intense conversation that consisted of a lot of : blah blah blah blah blah bleh blah. mm blah blah OMG OMG OMG OMG blah. Atleast that's what the boys say?
Eh? i can't see why.
My experience there went well. Unfortunately a small yogurt with two toppings was $4.28!! Ouchie...and i've learned to grow this undying love for self serve yogo which made it difficult to constrain myself into choosing just TWO toppings.
Yogurt is tart and creamy. Fruit was fresh, Mochi was bombay as usual. I'll return if nothing else is open.
I really want to give 3 1/2 but since i can't 4 it is. we'll call the extra 1/2 point for being in downtown PA and still being pretty cheap for froyo - Not nearly enough Tart for me though.
Could ya hire people who work... faster? My grandma could out-hustle the employees and she walks with a cane!
The wait here - albeit on a Saturday night - was unbearable. There was NO line out the door - only about 10 people in front of me, so I thought, not bad... oh I was so wrong!
Yul Kwon was working the register and when it was finally my turn, I asked him why no one was using the other register. He said there had been a backup earlier and so they switched over to using only one. Greeaaaat.
Here's the scenario -
WAIT TIME IN LINE: 15-20 MINUTES
WAIT TIME AT THE REGISTER: 3 MINUTES
WAIT TIME WHILE FROYO WAS BEING ASSEMBLED: 5 MINUTES
There were about 10 employees in plain sight - one said owner, Yul Kwon, at the register and another employee making the frozen yogurts. What was everyone else doing? Good question. REEDONK!
If Red Mango were the only natural frozen yogurt place in town, sure, monopolize each customer's time. But the next time I drive by and see a crowd of people, I'll be passing "GO" and stopping at another frozen yogurt spot.

Horrible. Rip off. Rude staff. Tastes like crap. Gelato place next to Jing Jing and Paxtis way better.
This is a disgusting corporate fad frequented by mostly Asians.
They "use nonfat dairy products, sweeteners, emulsifiers and acidifiers" too. Emulsifiers (propylene glycol esters, lactoglycerides, sodium acid pyrophosphate, mono- and diglycerides); acidifiers (magnesium oxide, calcium fumarate, citric acid, sodium citrate);
This crap tastes like high fructose corn syrup, and nothing like real yogurt like Ravel or trader joe's Greek style yogurt.

Green tea tastes like bitter crap.
Again, stay away, rip off corporate trash.

Ack! Don't kill me...but I only thought Red Mango was 3.25 stars. The store is very cute and is in a prime location on University Avenue. It's very clean inside and have a friendly staff. They have toppings like granola, captain crunch, fruit, mochi, etc.
I tried the frozen yogurt with granola and chocolate. The yogurt was tart and had a nice consistency. Here's the deal though, I really prefer the traditional frozen yogurt...I'm not a big fan of tart yogurts. If you like tart yogurts, you might love it!
So now I can officially say that I've tried Red Mango. I would come back if a friend wanted to and maybe if I was in the neighborhood...but I definitely wouldn't crave it or go out of my way to come here.

I LOVE RED MANGO ! ! ! I'm the 173rd review. Here's my take on the joint:
I'll drive 20+ miles one way specifically for this product...
Great product. I can only compare Red Mango to one other new fro-yo place in SF at the Rincon Center (to be reviewed later...). Red Mango has inspired a new quest in reviews for 2008: FROYO. The first time I ordered a Small Original with Dark Chocolate Ghiardelli Chips and Mochii. Excellent. Next time around I broke ranks from my eating regimen and I got the Medium. Frozen goodness.
Red Mango gets the taste just right for me. The Original Yogurt is not too sweet and it's not overly tart. Before you buy, get a sample. I was not a fan of the Green Tea Yogurt.

Finally. Have been waiting for Red Mango to open, and today I finally had a chance to get my fix. It was as good as I remember it ... maybe even better! The mochi is a must, and of course, the mango. The fruit is fresh -- if you have any doubt, take a peek and you can see the crates of whole mangoes, pineapples and bananas in the back hallway! We like to stick with the plain yogurt. Our favorite combos: mango/pineapple/mochi, strawberry/mango/mochi, coconut/blueberry/mochi, blueberry/mango/mochi. The sliced almonds are great, too, if you want a little crunch.
I am hoping they open one near me soon ... until then, I'll have to keep thinking up excuses to drive to Palo Alto!
TEN STARS!
There used to be a product called yoghurt. It had a fresh, tart flavor, a snap to it. These days whether you buy fresh yoghurt or frozen, the yoghurt flavor has been bred out of it. You are getting a chalky tasting white substance with fruit or some other flavors mixed in.
And I buy it a lot, but I sure do miss the classic style of yoghurt a LOT. Sometimes I have found it overseas.
Enter Red Mango. Their frozen yoghurt tastes like a modern version of REAL yoghurt. What a joy! And it's low in calories too. The "small" (4 oz) size is just two weight watcher points even when you add fruit to it.
So I thank you Red Mango for not only bringing us yoghurt that tastes like real yoghurt, but with a modern twist, and in a refreshing frozen format, with healthy toppings, and a smile.
Now if only you could do it for less than four bucks for the small size with fruit......
I can't wait to try your "green tea" version :)
I had some initial disappointments like
- only two choices of frozen yogurt (tart, green tea)
- lack of toppings
But they actually have more toppings than what's listed on the menu. Don't look at the menu, look at the toppings where they are making the froyos before ordering.
I liked the decor and the store felt very clean. I didn't mind paying a bit more than other yogurt places.
Can't wait for them to come to Cupertino :)

One of a *very* few places that live up to the hype it stirs up. The amount of hype that Red Mango gets after being open for only a couple of weeks (take the number of Yelp reviews this place gets!) is amazing.
So after hearing about this for about two weeks non-stop from my girls, I can't NOT be the uncool one who has not tried the latest and greatest of frozen yogurt and decided to make a trip to PA to sample it.
It did not disappoint. Steep price commensurates with the superior quality of the frozen yogurt which would impress even fro-yo skeptics who would not just buy into the hype (I personally know one). The green tea yogurt is sweet and creamy, which makes it hard to believe that the entire thing, sans toppings, only has 90 calories and goes well with the choc pebbles and granola.
Fraiche has got itself some stiff competition, I see.

Very cute and fresh decor, pleasant staff, nice and clean. The yogurt is more creamy/less icy than I prefer and the fruit is cut a little too large, is not always super fresh, and sometimes they skimp a bit, especially given the high prices. Still, the location can't be beat and I'm a yogurt addict, so I'm still a frequent customer. I appreciate that they have plenty of seating-- they get a boost for hospitality even if the yogurt itself is not my favorite!

I came to Palo Alto SUPER HYPED for Red Mango. To my surprise, most of my friends had already been there. Without me.
I was so confused... I recently discovered Red Mango on Yelp and thought it was this cool new thing. Then, I found out it opened while I was in Taiwan, and was already celebrated for the few weeks I was out of town. I felt like such a goober.
Red Mango is a trendy little shop. The combination of music, decor, and popularity gave off a lounge-y feel. Red Mango's patrons were relatively young, and proportionally equal in gender. It was unlike other yogurt places, typically filled with diet conscious twenty-something girls.
I ordered a small green tea with blackberries, blueberries, and mango. My order was generously sized. The fruit was wonderfully ripe. The yogurt was sweet and tangy in flavor, creamy in texture. I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT.
Nutrition facts randomly littered the store. Unlike Pinkberry (now demoted to 2nd place), this yogurt is REAL. I wish Red Mango were within walking distance of my place. It's relatively healthy, and hits the spot. A guilt-free indulgence.

I visited again today and was so happy to see that the large is now a very generous portion of yogurt and also a great amount of toppings too. Thanks, Red Mango!
Actually, I have decided that Red Mango is my favorite with flavor and texture for original tart flavored Frozen Yogurt. Before this was Frozo's. I really don't like Yogurtland's yogurt in Cupertino and PinkBerry in L.A. is just okay. I have been on a mission for the best tart yogurt place and I have found it here at Red Mango.
