Red Lion Inn & Casino
3 reviews for Red Lion Inn & Casino
If you're driving across the country like I am right now, and you need a reasonably priced place to stop between California and Utah, these rooms are surprisingly large - and dog-friendly! Take in the cheese-factor of the casino in this pass-through-only town, and it'll put a smile on your face.
NOTE: Ever heard of "carryout dining service?" Yeah, I hadn't either. But this is what they have instead of room service - you call and order, they call you back when it's ready, and you walk down and get it. Okay, I guess so.
I booked this hotel via http://priceline.com for $75. The lobby is located in the gambling area - so you can smell the cigarette smoke and it looks really cheap. But the lady on the front desk was very friendly and fast. Our rooms were in the second floor (no elevator), it was large - two bed, chairs and tables, fridge and microwave and a large flat screen TV. The bathrooms are nice and clean and quite. Overall is got more than I expected. Make sure that you don't get a room close to the gambling area, as it can be noisy there.
Currently called "Winnemucca Inn." Very large rooms. Excellent high quality pillow-top mattresses. We paid $108 for 2Q 2P room beginning of Aug 09. Air conditioner/heater is hotel style -- not under-window. Rather, there is a vent hear the ceiling blowing parallel to the beds and away from them, therefore no cold (or hot dry -- depending on season) air blowing right on you. Also, outgoing temp is not totally frigid. That is a feature. So is the fact that there is a thermostat calibrated in deg F on the opposite wall. Placement guarantees good temp control. There are, however, some bugs. For example, the thermostat's calibration is off by 15-20 degs. Because the thermostat automatically heats or cools (no heat/cool switch -- this is a feature), if you want to cool things down a bit, say from 80 to 70, and you set it at 70, guess what? The HEAT will come on because the thermostat is so far off calibration.
Nice synthetic comforters, but they are inside tapestry like heavy duvet covers that never get washed. 2 sinks, but neither one has enough space to put your stuff. Single ply low quality toilet paper, and a ball-soaker toilet, despite a very roomy bathroom by motel standards. One floor lamp has no place to plug in. Improperly installed towel rack comes apart and thus appears broken, but is just installed wrong.
Restaurant is an extension of the casino and is therefore very smoky, not to mention overpriced. Front desk claimed that breakfast was served all day, but in fact only a small submenu is served all day, and guess what? It's the really expensive super fat items. Beware corner of night table drawer. It wil put a hole in you faster than Annie Oakley. $5 clock radio on night table flashes despite setting right time, probably because it has no battery in it. Flash is just bright enough to be seen through closed eyes. Nice LCD TV, about 40". But there is no way to eliminate channels with no signal, which appears to be about 99% of the umpteen hundred it will cycle through. CSPAN1 and 2, though. Surprisingly quiet despite being on the main drag. No elevator. Water spout in one of the sinks rotates freely -- apparently another installation issue. 4 pillows on each bed, with a spare in the closet. But all are the same size; for me 1 was too low, 2 was way too high. Lots of table space and a fancy desk chair if you want to do actual work. Two huge decorative throw pillows on each bed look nice, but there is no place to put them at night.
