I stayed here while I had a layover from Chicago to Las Vegas. I had no idea what to expect but it was a good deal (about $50 for the night). Took the shuttle from the airport to the hotel and was pleasantly surprised. It was like staying in a huge log cabin lodge. Even for coming in around 12/1am the front desk staff was very friendly and outright asked if we wanted a wake up call as well as what time we wanted to pick up the shuttle back to the airport a few hours later.

The room really nice and the bed was super comfy. With being on the first floor I loved the option of having 2 doors. One to the main hallway and one that lead right to the outdoor pool and walking areas.

If I was stuck in Denver for the night again I would stay at this hotel.

Remember this is the Red Lion Conference Center hotel.

Dear United,

Next time you decide to cancel a flight on your loyal customer and shove him into a hotel that is the cheapest for you, please shove them into a hotel that doesn't require them to wake up at 3:00 am to get to their flight that takes off at 7:00 am.  The hotels that you choose should be CLOSE to the hotel and the shuttles that run should SHOULD run more often than every 45 minutes.

Thank you though for putting that loyal customer up in a hotel rather than forcing him to sleep in the airport terminal.  The room was as good as any other 2 star hotel he had stayed at which made getting a good rest about as easy as catching a fly with chopsticks for mister Miyagi during training to become the next Karate Kid.

Best Regards
-Eric

Got stuck in Denver for the night and rather than stay at the airport the nice United agents gave me a coupon with a discount code for area hotels. I was given the Red Lion and told that they offer a free shuttle to and from the airport. Fantastic. What was also fantastic is the shuttle ran as late as midnight and as early as 4:30am.

The shuttle promptly picked us up, the driver was a nice guy, quiet, helped me with my luggage. I had never stayed at the Red Lion and my rate for the night was $48 so I was a little concerned at the conditions of the hotel. Well I was pleasantly surprised, the hotel was actually really nice and updated. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful, especially when they told us what time to be in front for the shuttle in order to make it to the airport in time.

Got in the room and once again pleasantly surprised, the room was actually pretty damn nice. It's sad we were only staying in the room for about 5 hours because the beds were super comfortable! I didnt want to get up. Got our shuttle early the next morning and made our flight on time. I wouldn't mind staying at the Red Lion if I'm ever stranded in the Denver airport again!

* Side note* There is nothing around the Denver aiport so expect a long shuttle ride to the Red Lion or any hotel at that.

Bed Bug Scare in Denver!  In the wee hours of my 4th night at the Red Lion Hotel in Denver,  I woke up with a terrible feeling like my skin was crawling off my body.  I got up and looked in the mirror and discovered that I had red bumps all over my body! Having no idea what it was, and having never encountered anything similar, I decided to seek relief with a cold shower. The cold water seemed to calm things down a little bit but not completely. I was in for a long sleepless night. Early in the morning, I heard people stirring in the hallway. I exited my room and came in contact with the Head of Housekeeping.  I had my shirt off and she looked at the red bumps all over me and said "oh my goodness".  I said I think there's something wrong with my bed. She told me it could be bed bugs or that it could be a new kind of detergent that they had washed my sheets in.
A short time later, I was visited by the Hotel Manager,  Matt Anderson and his head of engineering.  They came into my room and examined my symptoms.  Mr. Anderson apologized and stated that he would call in a pest company immediately to search for bed bugs.  Yes, bedbugs.  He  suggested that I go to the ER as soon as possible and said "not to worry, the hotel will take care of everything."  He gave me directions to a hospital and asked me to contact him when I returned.   During the day, I received a call from Mr. Anderson saying that the pest control company had not found bed bugs so he suspected the problem was in fact a new detergent that housekeeping had tried out.
I spent 3 hours in the ER to eventually be diagnosed with contact dermatitis.  The doctor agreed that it was most likely in fact caused by the change in detergent that my bedding was washed in.  I was put on two different medications, along with special instructions to, "avoid sleeping in any of the hotel's sheets which had been washed in the same detergent."   Back at the hotel I was informed that all my bedding had been changed to new sheets that had not been washed in the suspect detergent.  Unfortunately the dermatitis had taken a strong hold and I was in for a miserable remainder of my stay. I was also in for a miserable two day drive back to Northern California.
On two different occasions, in front of several witnesses, Mr. Anderson admitted it was the hotel's fault and reassured me that the hotel would "take care of me".  I also allowed him to take pictures of the skin damage. The day before my departure, Mr. Anderson told me that he would meet with me the following morning and that he had already filed a claim with their insurance company on my behalf. When I went to meet with Mr. Anderson the morning of my departure, I was told he was "unavailable" and that his message to me was "have a safe trip home and don't worry, everything is being taken care of."   I left town trusting everything was being taken care of.
When I returned home, it was necessary to follow up with a Dermatology Specialist who confirmed the problem was contact dermatitis.  I received an injection and another prescription.  On my second visit, the problem had finally subsided.   Total medical expense, $1,066.
I again contacted the Hotel Manager who totally changed his tune, basically saying this was no fault of the hotel and they were not liable in any way!  I eventually received a message from an insurance rep in So Cal. Since I was on the road again, I asked my wife to return the call.  My wife eventually had to hang up on the person who was extremely rude and disrespectful in what she felt was an obvious attempt to discourage us from seeking any compensation.
I then reached out to the G M, Mike Larson, who asked that I submit my expenses and settlement claim when I completed my treatment.  I respectfully requested a fair settlement of $2,500  to reimburse me for my medical expenses,  pain and suffering,  and the pure inconvenience this had caused me.  I thought he was a man of reason and would consider the above and the fact that I did spend over $1,300 at his hotel. Yet,  even after doing everything he asked, he wouldn't even call me to negotiate the matter.  Instead,  he had yet another very rude insurance rep contact me, telling me not to contact the hotel.   I supplied them with medical receipts and diagnosis reports from the doctors, to which they replied that it was my problem if I had sensitive skin!  For the record, I don't have sensitive skin and have stayed in hundreds  of hotels without a problem.
Therefore, with the hotel management not taking any responsibility for this whatsoever, I have no other recourse but to post my experience on the web to warn other travelers of this hotel.  I am also currently reviewing my legal options, so if anyone who reads this review has had any problems arise from a stay at the Denver Red Lion, or their associate hotels, the Denver Hilton or the Denver Doubletree, also managed by Mike Larson,  please contact me to discuss your experience.

So, there are a few good things about the Red Lion:

1) SUPER clean, which I appreciate. I hate staying somewhere that feels dirty (shudders)
2) Pretty decent price for what it is
3) Friendly enough staff
4) Free shuttle to/from airport

However, there is enough about it to make me not recommend it to folks!
1) It really is in the middle of nowhere. "Denver Central"? Really? SUCH a lie! The location was fine for me, since the reason I was in Denver was for a conference right down the street at the Doubletree. As the Red Lion Inn and the Doubletree are both Hilton properties, there is a free shuttle in-between. However, you couldn't walk anywhere from this place and it is about a 15 minute drive from the real part of the city!
2) The train tracks are literally right next to the hotel. Every night as I was falling asleep, I was rudely awakened by a freight train crawling by and blowing its whistle. Additionally, was woken up in the morning by the bloody train. Overall, not so cute.
3) The drawers were missing handles. I had to pry the drawer open by wedging my fingers into the drawer
4) Despite being clean, the housekeepers randomly left my empty water bottles in the room- I put them next to the trash can so they could be recycled or reused.....and they were left there. Day after day. And randomly a granola bar wrapper that I had eaten was left on the floor too. Apparently I had missed the garbage can when I thought I threw it out and they decided to just leave it there.
5) My remote control was taken out of my room when I was gone at the conference one day. So weird! I called the front desk and had it returned.
6) The restaurant food is gross and wildly overpriced! I got a soup, salad, coffee, and bottle of water.... $31!!!! Seriously?!?!?!

If I were paying maybe $50 a night I would have given this place 3 stars, but the average price for  Th, Fri, and Sat night stays was over $70.

I'm writing this using the free wi-fi in the lobby because to use wi-fi in the room costs $10 per day.  That being said, the lobby is nice, spacious with very soft leather sofas and a huge roaring gas fireplace.  The room was comfortable, and clean.  I slept great last night, mostly because the beds were clean, the sheets were soft, and the pillows were fluffy and plump.  On top of that I woke up and took a nice long hot shower and water pressure or lack of hot water were not an issue.  Not a bad choice if you are looking for an affordable hotel and don't have to be in the middle of downtown.
