My mom loves this place and comes here whenever she can. Now, this may at first not sound that surprising, until you know that my mom is from Chicago.
So, she came in town again, and off we went again to Red Letter.
Personally, I think this place is somewhat over-priced for a used book store, but eh. When I brought my books here to sell, they did take a few off my hands for an ok price.
The selection however is fairly excellent, which makes up for its shortcomings. I've found most things I've looked for.
And yes, the atmosphere defines used bookstore, no doubt about it.

This place defines a used book store: crowded isles full of overflowing books, many of which need to be stacked. The smell of well-used books. Friendly owner, though he doesnt usually wear a smaile. I love this store and it is perfect when you want to find a book by a classic author or want to buy a couple of things to read but know you might not finish them all and don't want to break the bank.

maybe i'm biased because its owned by my uncle, but whatever. red letter is the quintessential used book store. its musky, ceiling to floor books, with a few cozy spots ideal for getting lost in whatever you pick up. i am absolutely a fan.
