Simply awesome.

Tons of beer.  Local micro beers, imported beers from all over the world, and even hard ciders and such.

I'm not much of a wine drinker, but the wine selection is just as impressive.

A great place to meet up with some friends and enjoy a couple of cold ones especially during the summer on the patio.

The food is great as well.  Pomme freits with the garlic sauce is amazing.

Service is always great and prompt.  Always very friendly and inviting.

Definitely check this place out.

This is one of the cutest places Renton could have. Has a great little location and when inside has that cozy feel. Maybe a little too cozy...

Aside from a decent wine experience and an OK pasta dish the rest of the experience was just so-so and here's why. When we went inside we stood there waiting for someone to seat us. The place isn't very big but apparently the staff isn't either. We were offered a seating in the front area at a small table and there is no other word for it... it got cramped real fast. To the side along the wall is a wine collection - nice to peruse and look at but practically impossible because the table we were seated at floated right into it.

There is a guy there, I don't know if he is an owner, manager or server but man what a negative vibe he produced. Had a haughtiness and an indifference towards the customers. The female server appeared more friendly though once we received our food, we seldom saw her and had to flag her down twice. She also seemed grudging when I asked her for more Parmigianno cheese. Another negative, this was during the Taste of Renton restaurants food/wine tours. It was TOTAL CHAOS, completely distracting to diners to have lines of people busseling past your already tiny table to go upstairs and sample a bite of this or a sip of that. ugh.

But the worst of the evening came when a disabled man in a chair was stationed next to us at a table even closer to the front door which was all of 4 steps away. He and his fellow diner were practically ignored the entire time we were there. I don't think they ordered much because the guy with-a-stick-up-his-bum gave the impression that they were an inconvenience.

Now, maybe I need to go back another day. I wanted to like this place - but came away with the distinct impression that this place is already tired of its' own success and could care less about showing gratitude to its' patrons anymore.

One of the best wine selections and a creative menu. No matter what you are craving, something will jump out and say EAT ME.
Beers from all over the world, great service, food you can share...what more can I say?

Bring a date-you won't be disappointed!

Awesome menu and a FANTASTIC beer and wine selection. The menu rotates with the seasons and the nightly specials are incredible! Outside dining during the summer is a must!

I came here with my boyfriend for dinner on a weeknight, for a casual date night.

Decor/vibe: cute and intimate.  Their deck was full when we visited, so we sat inside in the "beer room" - basically a beer lover's dream, a small room with both sides lined by beer coolers.  It's an old house that they have renovated into a restaurant/store, so there are lots of small rooms with a few tables in each.

Service: really friendly, and our waitress seemed to be very knowledgeable about their beer selection.  However, I don't think they have enough staff on busy nights, so she definitely didn't check back on us frequently and our food took awhile.  We were kind of expecting that, though, and didn't really want a quick meal anyway.  My advice would be to go on a night you're not in a hurry and pick out your next beer halfway though your current one, so it gets uncapped the next time the waitress is at your table.

Food: good overall.  We split a salad, the baked goat cheese, and polenta fries, all three for around $25 I believe.  The goat cheese was by far the best, and was a really good-sized appetizer.  The salad was good, nothing special, and the polenta fries were ok.  I think next time we'll get the pomme frites instead.

Beer and wine selection: fabulous!  We stuck with beer, and they had a very impressive array.  The $1.50 corkage fee is a bit of a bummer, but it's worth it for the more rare beers, or you can always get a 22oz bottle :)

4 stars? I could see how people could rate it that, but based on my experience that night, I could only muster up a 2 star rating.

I had a friend come visit me unexpectedly and she was hungry so we decided to go somewhere new and close to my place. I searched on Yelp and found this place tucked away in downtown Renton. When I got there, we were greeted by the waitstaff and promptly seated. The waiter was great, a lot of energy and great recommendations as far as the wine went.

We chatted and sipped on our wine while perusing our menus and decided that we were all going to get some tapas and hang out. We ordered the Serrano Ham and Manchego cheese, Steamed clams, BBQ lamb ribs, confit of duck and chicken skewers.

So, after we ordered, we talked and waited for our food. Then we waited...and waited...and waited...and nothing. An hour had passed and still no word from our waiter or from anyone. I ran downstairs and talked to a manager to see what was going on with our food. I was polite, introduced myself and just asked if there was a problem with our food. He told me "our kitchen's backed up, it'll be out in a little while." No apology, no nothing. Just plain and simple like he was trying to shoo me back to my seat. Talk about not giving a shit about their customers. I can understand the packed house, but if you're going to open a restaurant, you better make sure its well staffed and you're able to get your food out in a timely manner.

Anyway, onto the food. The highlight of the meal were the clams. They were 3/5. Sweet, a little sandy and still warm. The lamb ribs were dry and room temperature. The ones at the bottom of the stack were warm and soft. Not bad. The chicken skewers were much better. They were seasoned well and very juicy. I tried the Serrano/manchego on a baguette and it was just blah. Lastly, we had polenta fries and truffle fries. The polenta fries were crisp, hot and delicious but the truffle fries on the other hand were cold, soggy and unappetizing. How do you do truffle fries wrong?!?

Anywho, the food was ok, portions were good size, price was good, server was very nice, but the management was horrible.

Maybe next time, I'll have a better experience.

I stopped here today with two friends for our monthly location-changing girl's lunch out. Thankfully it's been warmer, so we sat on the patio (which will be extra-lovely once there are more leaves on the trees).

The service was great, attentive and friendly. We were invited to order from either the lunch or the dinner menu, as it was about mid-afternoon. I ordered polenta fries (delicious, crispy and flavorful, with wonderful aioli) and steamed mussels (nicely done, disappeared quickly) and a Woodchuck Pear Cider, which I selected out of the cooler in the Beer Room. Later on, I made an offhand comment to the waitress about how my favorite cider (Ace Perry, if you're wondering) wasn't one of the available selections, she made a note and promised to look into it. Even if she was "just saying it", I'm impressed!

My friends had lovely wines for good prices, an order of fries, and a turkey sandwich. We were joined later by two more friends, who were attended to quickly, even through the changing of the wait-staff shift.

We liked the Red House so much that my girls and I made plans to meet there next month -- we don't usually decide on a location until the day before, so that's saying something!

I went here for the first time a few weeks ago on a beautiful Tuesday evening after work. We were looking for a place in downtown Renton to dine outside and me and my co-workers chose Red House.

We had a great experience here, even though most of us aren't wine drinkers. The service was friendly and prompt, and the food was delicious. I had the beef skewers which were juicy and had a savory marinade and the cuscus was fresh and flavorful. All the other people in my party remarked that their dishes were likewise really tasty. We will definitely be heading back here again!

YES.  ONLY TWO STARS.  I went to the same address as all the other 4-5 star Yelpers, but I entered the Red House door into an alternate universe of horrible front end service.  The servers all looked at me like I was alien, yet did not greet me.  H E L L O?  I waited for a table, realizing we may have inconvenienced the staff just by crossing the "ENTRANCE" door while the "OPEN" sign was up.  After awhile, we were re-seated in front since my husband didn't like the cramped two-seated the male server offered us between a large group and a rack of beer bottles in back.

Clearly, we were an inconvenience.  I heard the entire conversations between male server and anyone he could find to serve our table since he was too busy and just did not want to serve our table.  Not a good impression.  I can hear you, I'm right here.  Would it help you if we left?  My husband was ready to go to Fin N Bone.

Finally, a female server heads over and we generously learn how to forgive, a little.  She was nice and delivered:

MY WINE:  Prompt and right on point.
HIS BEER: He said it was good.
BEER GLAZED MUSHROOMS w/ FETA: Pass.
POMMES FRITES: Good.  Things looking up.
CHICKEN KABOBS:  TASTY - best flavor of the night.
PAELLA:   Overall, lacked a burst of flavor.  All the flavor was in the chorizo slices.

GIVE THEM A SECOND CHANCE?  Only if dining with companions who have been there before and willing to convince us of Red House's goodness.  I had hoped to love Red House and bring my friends/family for some upcoming occasions.  I won't be doing that, I'd be embarrassed to do so.  Maybe reconsider if they work on their entry/host experience - I saw several diners after us linger in the entry not sure they will be greeted and seated.

Context: Red House is a "tapas bar" and retail shop.  This review is only for the retail side, I have not experienced the sit-down service or the food.

Red House has a quaint feel, lots of outdoor seating and a healthy selection of wines and beers. They have a whole wall dedicated to Washington wines, as well as a back room filled with beers from around the world.  The customer service was fine.

The space was cramped, however; dining tables, wine racks and retail shelves compete for scarce space in several small adjoining rooms.  For example, in one room dining tables stand directly in front of wine racks.  So to peruse the wine selection, a retail shopper would have to squeeze into a narrow space between the wine racks and dining patrons--basically putting your butt in someone's face while they're trying to enjoy a nice meal.  Makes for an awkward shopping trip.

This place is just adorable!  I went with my moma for dinner and wine and beer.  The outdoor seating is like a private garden.   Its very quiet and the server gave us good attention.  After living in Renton for over a year now (was living in Seattle) I finally found a place that is high Seattle quality.  I would PAY Seattle prices, but not get the quaint atmosphere that I truely love.
The beer and wine menu was not only extensive and top notch, but also has the prices you would pay at a winery and not super high end restraunt prices.  The food was fantastic!  It was deffinately the best bruchetta I have ever had, plus wonderfull smoked Salmon.  My mom, hard to please usually because she doesn't really care for high end places or spending a bunch of money.  But the fancy beers and beautiful atmosphere deffinately swayed her.  (I did buy, so maybe that helped : )).

I look forward to returing at least once a month from here on out.  And deffinately want to check out their weekly wine tastings and monthly beer tastings.  If you haven't tried a true Belgium beer you MUST!  It's worth every penny.

I highly reccomend this place.

If you find yourself thinking.... OK, I'm in Renton, the kids are with the sitter, its just you and your better half, where do you go for an intimate dinner? You know, one of those places where you wouldn't take the kids!
Well look no further....This place is it!
Wonderful wine bar atmosphere, great for warm summer evening out on the patio or enjoy the coziness of the indoors on a chilly winters night!
Great selection of wines and yummy "unique" food. Tapas is great, try the Anti pesto platter to share and the deviled shrimp tapas...yum!
However the apple ginger cake was a disaster...stay clear!
So enjoy your adult conversation over a glass of local or imported wine and know that your meal will not be interrupted by crying babes or the sounds of crazy singing waiters.
Also they have a great selection of local and imported beers, ones you have probably never heard of!

We came here after watching the new James Bond movie this weekend.  Neither of us were newcomers to the place.

After spending a few minutes to peruse the menu, we ordered a couple app's and settled on our entrees.  The staff explained that it was a brand new menu and the chef had changed.

After a few minutes, one of the app's wasn't available (clams) and then we were informed the ravioli was gone, too.  So we switched dishes and when our food arrived, I think we were both disappointed.

Her salmon, while done to just the right texture, was all jumbled together with some vegetables and the smashed potatoes.  It looked like a mess and my paella was really overcooked and dried out.

Pretty disappointed, but maybe it's learning curve.  It's still a cool little place, but I think they need some time to iron things out again.

Service was excellent and beer selection was also very good.

Our group of about 11, discouraged by poor service at another establishment in Renton, found ourselves in the evening wandering to the Red House for beers, wine, and some appetizers or desserts.

They got us situated in a garden seating arrangement on their patio where we were surrounded by greenery and showered with white lights.

Our group ordered bottled beers, glasses of wines, and selections from the draft beers.  All were pleased.

The only knocks were not too many items on the dessert menu all of us could agree upon and also, they were out of their awesome sangria.

The attentive server made up for any short comings.  We'll be back for sure.  We just wished they were open past 10!

Good food in Renton? Believe it or not, it does exist!

Red house is a wine bar that happens to have a very good  menu. The food here is consistently good, and it a fun place to share tapas and a good bottle of wine with friends and family. The tapas, or really I should call them small plates, since few of them are Spanish, are inventive and fun, and there's always a good mouthwatering dish listed on the daily specials. It's a causal and comfortable place that always makes for a nice night out in Renton.

Things I that are so good I almost always order them: polenta fries, cumin meat balls, manchego i jamon (not real jamon, but good for what's available in the states).

A neighborhood destination restaurant in Renton? Really!!! It is. Well worth the trek into and out of Renton - even if you live in downtown Seattle or north for that matter. Great food. An incredible wine and beer list. And what, the wine is sold at market value? Yes. What a gem!

It all started off great. We were seated in a nice table off in the front area, our order was taken right. Literally 30 seconds after our food arrived the waiter asked us how it was. Then he disappeared d for about 45 minutes. Our food was collecting bugs and dust before be came with the check and boxes. Our check came to $60 bucks, which I think is way to expensive for mediocre food.

Yummy!  Awesome service.  The manager over heard me say that I didn't like my food (it was my mistake) and offered to get me something else.  I had ordered the soft shell crab and didn't know what I was getting.  He took it back with a smile and quickly brought me a new dish.  I had the Dungeness crab and Penne Pasta.  It was amazing.  My partner had something in Alfredo sauce that was also a fabulous meal.  We shared a pear salad that was fresh and wonderful.

There is literally a room full of beer and a room full of wine.  I bought a $25.00 bottle of wine to take home that I fell in love with.  Being a cheap wine drinker that says allot ..... ;-)

I made reservations to take my parents there when they visit next month.  Make a reservation or get there at 4pm when they open.  Especially if it is a beautiful sunny wknd afternoon.

Like the eye of a hurricane this is an anomaly in the midst of a storm of unspeakable horror... some people call it Renton.  This is a fantastic first date spot if you're headed to the south end. They have tons of small, isolated tables, plentiful parking, and a large selection of wine (they are a wine shop too).

My date was alergic to most meat, so we tried several different vegetarian tapas... hummus with bruscetta was the best. Neither of us liked the hot wing-shaped fried artichokes because they were hard to eat and a little bit vinegary. They had several regular menu items as well, but I'd stick with the tapas cause they're fun to share. We had a couple glasses of nice tempranillo and a really outstanding, yet modestly-priced riesling.

Here are my complaints: I didn't care for the service much. Our waiter kept flirting with my date. Fortunately she totally laid the smack down on him. He reminded me of that guy in Office Space that offered "Some Pizza Shooters, Shrimp Poppers, or Extreme Fajitas" at 8 in the morning, except for our waiter didn't have on 33 pieces of flair. Also, the ginger creme brulee was a crime against the splendors of saturated fat. It got sent back.

Perfect Place in Renton for Tapas -- a dish thats meant to be shared =D  Red House you can dine, shop, share a drink, relax, party, learn, or explore. Check their Calendar of Events on the website for cool things. Every Wednesday of the year @ Red House they have wine tastings from different wineries and regions all over the world. For about $15 buys you in.

The Red House is the only place in the Renton area serving a tapas-style menu, as well as a full and wonderfully varied entre menu. All their recipes are pretty much their own, and they cook everything from scratch which is ubercool since your palate deserves nothing less. The Service is wonderful. They offer  up to 20 wines by the glass, and seven fine beers on tap.

Some of the Tapas dishes I enjoy would be The Sherry Garlic Roasted Mushrooms with Feta Cheese. It may have been a special Item that day, but they had this Super Yum BBQ Rib dish atop of  Fresh Vegetables. The Chipotle Deviled Eggs are yummy as well.

Dont forget to check out their Beer & Wine Shoppe--Shelves filled with Liquid Goodness waiting for you to buy & take home.

Just had dinner. Ah, it was okay. The server seemed in-convinced to even be there, sweat on his face. It's hot, but not that hot. Kinda yucky.

The antipasto was wonderful with cheese and meat and fun stuff. But nothing else we had was wonderful, edible but not fabulous.

I'd go back on my selection of wine and the antipasto platter, not expecting to much more.

Not only did me and my two best girl pals fill out tummies with awesome possum tapas (clams, calamari, duck salad, olives, etc.), we flirted ferociously with the cute waiters (actually, me and my girl BB flirted vicariously through DD - the only one who's single).  Excellent selection of fine wine and we commemorated the evening by documenting quotes throughout the night on the cork of the bottle of wine we shared.

This is indeed a gem of a find, of all places, Renton.  It's right next to the local VFW so don't go in the wrong building ;)

When I want foodie bliss without overwhelming crowds, I head down to beautiful Renton.  The Red House is one of my absolute favorites.

First of all, the food is good.  The tapas are tasty and fresh, interesting but not pretentious.  I like the fried artichokes even though they're hard to eat; you have to be willing to get your fingers a little dirty.  The truffled fries are lovely, the clams, the bruschetta, oh, it's so hard to choose.  The Red House even manages to elevate something as simple as deviled eggs: who knew?

I like the ambiance of the Red House.  The staff is funny and friendly, and the space is so homey I could stay for days.  You can choose to sit out on the deck, in one of several downstairs rooms in the house, or they have air conditioned private rooms for groups (or those wine tastings) upstairs as well.  All the rooms are lined with bottles and bottles of wine, any of which can be purchased.  I seldom drink more than a glass or two myself, but looking at all those interesting bottles makes me want to learn more about wine.

Even by the glass, though, the wine selection is outstanding.  Sometime soon I want to hit one of their monthly tastings: $20 gets you six samples plus a buffet.

Which leads me to another of my favorite things about the Red House: I can afford it.  Since it's OhMyGodAtTheEndOfTheEarth in Renton, it seems like everything is a dollar or two cheaper than it would be in Capitol Hill or Wallingford.

And hey, it's the same distance for me to Renton or Capitol Hill.  Why not pick the one where I can park easily and save a few bucks?

Funky ambiance, homey atmosphere, decent tapas. Comfy place for friends/family to meet, gab, nosh on a variety of foods for different tastes. I wouldn't go here for a "full" meal because for the amount of money you spend, I don't feel you get that bang for a buck. My bf and friends spent time in Madrid and some items on the menu were a joke to pass off for Spanish tapas. Don't call the Serrano ham and manchego platter if the ham ain't Serrano, we know real Serrano and this Canadian-ham-like meat is not it. The waiter denied the false ID. Points taken off. The must-haves include: lamb meat balls, tortillas, pomme frittes...the desserts were meh, save it for a real patisserie.

I would go here as a way station on a date but not for a full meal.

This fantastic quaint place is one of my favorites in all the world.  I've never had anything less than amazing here.  Gene and his wife are veteran Renton restaurateurs and opened this gem about 2.5 years ago.  Its world class - at Renton prices.

The porch is opened in the summer and its delightful to sit there under a sun-umbrella or a heat lamp.  The first floor is scattered among several smaller rooms for a more intimate setting.  All are lined with wine/beer from various countries.  The second floor is opened for wine tastings and private parties.

The menu changes with the seasons - there is always something creative on the menu.  Fried zucchini flowers, home made hummus, or shrimp in a Mediterranean sauce, key lime pie.  All amazing.

I would be remiss if I didn't suggest the cherry infused ice-tea.  Its one of the best things to ever pass between my lips.

Good for beer, good for wine. Tapas- passably good, but I haven't found anything impressive yet. Certainly, the tapas portions were nothing like other tapas restaurants I've been to, but my boyfriend and I finally figured out that the best solution is to just order a few appetizers to graze on, and sit back to enjoy the alcoholic beverage of your choice.

The setup is like some one's house, but many walls are lined with wine bottles. There's outside seating if you get there in time, wine tasting nights, and you also can even be seated in the beer room.

I've always noticed the Red House when I would go to one of my favorite local spas. I finally got to try it out and it was tasty! First off, the place is super cute, with small rooms containing 6-8 tables. Very cozy, private, with lots of atmosphere.

I got teh turkey sandwich with pickles and my friend got the melted cheese sandwich with fries. I had some serious food envy. The fries tasted like homemade and teh sandwich was made of thick rustic bread with some gooey cheese. YUM.

My sandwich was tasty too, but it was more of a turkey deli type thing. However, the daikon radish pickles were YUMMY! There were slivers of garlic cloves and some bell peppers in it too. SO DELICIOUS!!!

The service was great too. Not in your face, but always around if you needed anything. Price was very reasonable too!

Check it out!

Ah the Red House.  Comfortable.  Eclectic.  Homey.  Literally.  The Red House is a wine/beer/tapas bar-restaurant carved out of a modest house in up and coming downtown Renton.  I have been there many times, and many times I've walked thru the door in different moods, wants and apatite's.  And this is the place where it  seems to come together and somehow make sense.  The items on the menu, the beers, and the wine selections are all so diverse it really doesn't matter what mood you arrive in, as long as you aren't averse to decision making.  The staff is friendly and conversational (although I truly miss the original host..what the heck happened to that guy!).  It's a great place to end a hectic week or start a nice relationship.

I have to agree with other reviewers: Red House is a great find in Renton.  I like the tapas menu and the ambiance.  They have a great beer and wine selection and a modest corking fee.  I wasn't so thrilled with food as to give it 5 stars, but I'm being a bit severe witholding that last star.
We ordered several items and I felt like each item we ordered would have been great by itself (creative, spicy, tasty, well made and presented) but sampling each in succession left the impression that the cook was trying to make each dish better and better by adding more and more spice.  The result was that it  accented the spices and not the dishes.  If I hadn't had the chipotle deviled eggs, I might not have notice the vinegar-laden dressing on the pear/hazlenut spinach salad, which in turn left me acutely aware of the salt content in the brown mushroom gravy on the steak -all of which were good on there own.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be visiting Red House again soon.  I just couldn't quite give it that 5th star.

Growing up in Renton, you'd never expect to find a place like this here...SORRY!  But, it's a great comfortable, fun, cutesy place to take someone on a first date, second date, third date, you're catching my drift?   I'm really into variety, not Cheesecake Factory variety though.  They have this sardines and manchego cheese app that's really good, the rustic bread is addicting!  And.....OMG their Singapore Noodles are super filling and flavorful.  Did I mention their extensive beer and wine selection?  You have to check this place out!  Their customer service is good, not the best for a place that's really small and intimate.

ok, now that i've had more food here: the polenta fries - deep fried chunks of polenta...YUM! the aioli served as a dipping sauce is delish. the deviled eggs are pretty good. gene's stuffed torte (the only vegetarian entree on the menu) is greasy and heavy, but very flavorful. i won't order it again. the pear salad is excellent, if a little vinegary. i wonder if they use the same dressing as the beet salad...

My husband and I have "date night" here.  We love the atmosphere and the food.  Sometimes the service is a little slow - but we don't mind taking a table longer than normal if they don't.  Their outdoor patio is perfect for long summer evenings.

Places like Red House are helping make Renton a cool place to live.  At this wine shop/restaurant combo, you can stop in just to buy a bottle of wine or sit down and have some tapas.  The food is good and  reasonably priced.  They cater parties upstairs and do wine/beer tastings every month.  As a converted house, it has much more of a cafe/restaurant than a "bar" feel- great date place.
