I love Barrington coffee (the beans they use), the staff is usually friendly, the music is usually stellar, the foam is usually micro, the owners are dark, interesting souls (their kids are really amazing and I usually hate kids). They even have an informed selection of wine and beer. I switched from Cafe regular after reading a quote about my husband and me in this coffee culture coffee table book that featured Martin from Regular: he basically said that my husband and I were coffee addicts, which we are, but still. I like how nonjudgemental this staff is about my three appearances per day and Barrington is just as good, if not better, than Le Colombe. Intelligentzia's Black Cat is even better but the coffee house on 5th Ave and like 19th Street that uses it has really untrained barristas and they destroy the bean.

This place has your typical coffee-shop drinks and food (the meat pies are delicious and unusual though), nothing TOO special there, although it's all good.  The reason I go, like many others here I think, is the atmosphere.  The gorgeous decor, the great lighting (not eerily dark, but not unwelcoming), the music.  Something about being there makes me feel cozy and safe.

A great, calm place to get a cappucino in the morning (or anytime!). It doesn't have the frenetic, crowded vibe that the nearby Tea Lounge and the coffee is tasty. They also have tasty Aussie meat and veggie pies from Dub Pies, and yummy baked goods.

It's a decent size and there are enough tables and seats that you probably won't have to fight for one.

Finally: a grown-up, well-designed, well-made coffee house for the discerning reader/writer/laptop holder in Park Slope. What it sacrafices in space, it makes up for in ambiance and sustainability. I spoke with the owner, who holds a degree in Furniture Design, and he explained that almost all of the materials in the cafe were built from found materials. Beautiful dark wood, leather couches, solid plank doors, a working fireplace, contemplative lighting. In short: they gave it some thought, and it shows.

The coffee: the best-prepared Mocha, Machiatto, or Cappucino east of the Gowanus, and south of 9th street, served in smart-looking mugs. As mentioned below, they even got the SOY foam correct. Amazing.

I couldn't wait to yelp about this place....I am writing while sitting here!

Totally cute little corner coffee shop in park slope! REALLY good coffee and really nice guy working behind the counter.  Enough room where it isn't tiny nor is it too big.   Well lit, unlike the tea lounge in park slope... I hate doing work in a dark cafe.

Pretty quiet, polite crowd.  Nice interior and atmosphere. Bricks, wood, leather.  Also, the free wifi is awesome & the password is so true & cute - you will have to go and find out!

If you're looking for a coffee house with European charm, you've found the place. Red Horse is charming, welcoming and lacks any pretension. The owners are warm and down-to-earth and the staff is friendly. The coffee and tea are terrific, but the food offerings are just mediocre. Still, as far as quiet, pleasant places to sit with a laptop or even to read, you can't get much better than Red Horse.

MMMM.  We just moved to 12th St, and we were delighted to find a cool, indepedent coffee shop on our corner, less than 100 yards from our front door.  And then to find that the coffee is delicious, atmosphere homey and comfortable (the kind of place you could use as an "office"), and the witty banter free of charge...well, we are in coffee heaven.  It is no pricier than Starbucks, except for the hot chocolate (which I tried during my second trip of the day yesterday).  "FOUR-FIFTY for a large hot chocolate?!?!?" my boyfriend balked.  Then he took a sip - chocolate heaven.  No powdery mixed crap.  And the oatmeal raisin cookie was divine.

I work just about every afternoon that i'm not at an office at the Tea Lounge, typing away on my mac, like all wannabe hispters are wont to do.

This morning, as I was readying or my voyage, I happened upon a Red Horse Cafe review accidently and was intrigued. Free wifi. Not crowded. Good coffee? Perhaps i can be unfaithful just this once...

In short, two hours later, I've already traveled to the slope, going to Red Horse, and am back at the Tea Lounge....Red Horse indeed has amazing coffee, among the best skim lattes I've ever had. But, the crowd is unfriendly, the wifi is weak, and the pastries didn't even tempt my very-weak resolve.

I'd def return for a latte to go - but for afternoon wi-fi-ing, I shall never stray again.

The coffee here is well-roasted and a perfect way to start the morning.  The food is fine, but the grounds are robust and flavorful. The location is more residential, which makes it a better shot for a quiet cup with your paper than the other Park Slope mommy-n-me cafes.

My quest for coffee that can stand up to the best Seattle spot has finally come to an end. I recently moved to Brooklyn from Seattle, and this is the first wonderful cup of coffee I have had since I've been here.  This place is absolutely great.

Atmosphere:  comfortable, wood, leather.  It is obvious that they have spent much time ensuring a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere.  There are 20ish seats, leather couches, and wood chairs.  There is a bit of outdoor seating as well.  Also, the two workers were friendly and helpful.  I noticed they even walked your coffee out to your table if you are staying.  The bathroom is spacious and clean (saying a LOT for New York)

Coffee:  I am a coffee snob... which I didn't realizing until moving here and having one bad mocha after another.  And then I found this place...   the coffee was rich and bold.  Around the same boldness as Gorilla coffee.  The milk was frothed perfect as well.

The don't have punch cards.  Bummer.  But if you are looking for a spot where you can relax, read a book/work on your laptop... this is the place!

They can be a bit crowded on the weekends.  But again, it is worth it.

LOVE this place. Red Horse was a wonderful surprise around the corner. I can't drink milk, so I ordered a soy latte and WOW - you should have seen the foam on this sucker! Artisan foam with soy milk? Now that's hard core!
Ambiance is very cozy - I almost wish I was a student just so I could read here. WiFi is a nice touch, too. Although I've only had the bagel, the rest of the baked goods look equally yummy.
I've been trying out other neighborhood coffee joints, just so I know what else is out there, but I keep coming back to the Red Horse for their lovely soy foam.

Did not have the coffee when I went, opted for the small, yet impressive beer coollection. What can I say, I am somewhat of a beer snob on certain nights. They were playing a very interesting movie on the projector, one I could only watch as I came in to refresh my beverages for the crowd I was with(we sat outside). Friendly staff, delicious brownies. Stop by if you are in the area.

I like my coffee strong enough to render cliches unusable, and Red Horse fits the bill. I'm sitting here on a hot day sipping on an iced americano, and damn it's good! It's a bit pricey, though - I just paid $6.25 for the iced drink (large) and a biscuit.

In a part of town known for its classy eateries and literate residents (this is Park Slope, folks), the Red Horse Cafe stands out from the crowd.

First off, the coffee is amazing. Since moving here a few weeks ago, I've sampled espresso and regular coffee at nearly ALL of the local shops (Tea Lounge, Naidre's, Cafe Eleven). None of them come close to the robust, full-bodied brew served at Red Horse. Yes -- you can actually TASTE their coffee. For this, I am mega-grateful.

The espresso displays a rich, frothy crema (the kind usually found only at, ahem, Starbucks). Taste is unbelievable, the sort of thing one expects from a classy, sophisticated, but still family-friendly cafe. Hints of earth with overtones of molasses. Delicious.

They're stocked with fresh pastry (both savory and sweet) and the baristas are cool and chatty and good with kids. No weird stares or ridiculous hipster pretension complexes here.

Recommended for fans of strong coffee, good atmosphere, friendly clientele and 12th St in general.

Red Horse, you rock my block.

The coffee's a little sharp, and everything seems about 30 percent too expensive, but I keep coming back to this place for the always-friendly, always-fast staff, classy atmosphere, very good (bakery bought) pasteries, and excellent soundtrack. Huge leather couches in back, stools along the windows for sidewalk watching, and private tables hand-crafted by the owner - all filled to about 60% capacity when I've visited (between 11 and 2 typically). My only beef - beyond a sharp brew - is that the place has a strange attraction to flocks of moms-with-young-children; They frequently take over the space in large numbers, children running underfoot high on coffee fumes, screaming about muffins... As a rule I pass on the Horse if I can see more than two children through the glass entrance.
