Getting a pink slip is bad.  Very bad!

Getting a Red Envelope box is good.  Very good!

Red Envelope does specialty, high end personal goods.  A coworker was adopting a baby and I ordered a infant one piece that said "I was worth the wait" which I'm told is being kept with other keepsakes that parents do with their children, or at least the first born/adopted one, when having a child seems so magical and new.  I'm told it wears off with the third, fourth, etc. child, but I suspect my parent friends are kidding. (At least I hope so.)

This Christmas I was the lucky recipient of two gifts from Red Envelope.   A crocodile skin travel valet.  When you travel a lot like I do and have to lug along a tux, it's handy to have something to put cuff links, studs, watches, etc. into something that organizes them instead of my usual Glad ziplock bag.

I also received a modern watch case which is elegant and sleek.  It's be a handy repository for my watches.  No more, "Where is the black watch?" for me.

The prices at Red Envelope aren't cheap, but the quality of goods is high. The presentation boxes that goods come in is attractive.  Feel like spoiling someone special or looking for that unusual gift without walking miles in the mall?   Go check out Red Envelope's website or ask for their catalog.  You may even find something for yourself.

What a class act RedEnvelope is!  I've received their catalogs for a long time, but..to be honest..I'm a closet catalog voyeur. Love to sneak a look, but that's about as far as I go.

What a pleasant surprise to find a box with their return name and address outside my door one day around Christmas.

I always save my gifts until Christmas Day, so the anticipation of a RedEnvelope gift was almost more than I could handle. But, I waited like the good girl that I am. I didn't  want to piss off Santa.

Finally, Christmas arrived. When I eagerly unwrapped the gift, there was the RedEnvelope signature Red Box. You know how they say packaging is so important in selling a product?  If there had been a rock in the bottom of THIS box, I still would have been delighted! As a child, I had more fun playing with the empty boxes, than I did the gifts that came in them.  So, you see I really take notice of these little things.

Before you even open the gift, there is a pouch that holds the packing slip, but warns you to "Open the Gift First".  How cool!  No one wants to see the packing slip and read what gift they are receiving. On this pouch, the company markets their products with this slogan: "Somebody's Thinking of You."  Then, it reads: "In Asian cultures, gifts are often presented in a simple red envelope, a symbol of honor and appreciation.  At RedEnvelope, we continue the tradition.  We create our gifts with thought and care, and make sure every detail is just right.  We strive to make every gift-giving experience extraordinary and memorable.  At RedEnvelope, your gift is our command."

Inside that red box was another red jewelry box with a cream-colored grosgrain ribbon tying it all together.  Even the boxes look expensive.  Not just your average floppy fold-me-type box, but shiny, sturdy proud-looking boxes.  Inside that box was another little pouch with a sweet gift card to me and directions on caring for my gift.

Finally, I discovered an exquisite amethyst bracelet with a silver clasp that read "friends".  Awwww!!  This was sent to me by my buddy, Ivana, who was in Chicago visiting her family over the holidays.

Well, I'm proud to say that  I'm coming out of the closet!  ... the voyeur catalog closet.  I'll now be ordering from this fine, prestigious company.

By all means, check them out.  Of course, they are also online, but I still love thumbing through a catalog while I'm waking up with my cuppa joe in the morning.  Somehow, I feel closer to the product.
