Review from David G.
Santa Maria, CA
An oasis in a busy area and where hotels are expensive. The decor was soft and tasteful - the little patio and pool view - nice warm pool was so peaceful after a busy day at work. The cottage has all the amenities - love the free wi-fi, the frig, and the TV tray was helpful. I could on, but no need it was great.

Comfort, value, homey ambience, convenient location...
In an area with lots of overpriced hotels, this one's a great value and their welcoming staff make you feel like you are staying in a family's guest house.
Great location right off of El Camino Real in Menlo Park with ample parking. Shady garden-like atmosphere, which we loved as lots of flowers and trees were in bloom. We had a private garden patio in addition to the shared outdoor areas to enjoy. Fresh cookies and tea were available in the afternooon and the continental breakfast the next morning was varied and satisfying.
Rooms appear to have been remodeled within the last few years and were quite spacious. We had a room with 2 beds, coffeemaker and a spacious fridge/freezer.
We were surprised how quiet the place was, we didn't intend to sleep in but we did because it was so peaceful there. the train didn't bother us at all.
Seems like a lot of business travelers choose this hotel as it was fairly busy when we arrived on a weekday, but fairly quiet over the weekend. Super speedy wireless was much appreciated as i had to get some work done while i was there...
Menlo Park is easily driveable and if you don't mind a 10-15 minute walk you can hoof it over there. Stanford/Palo Alto just beyond that. Our other fun discovery was a lovely Holbrook Palmer Park ,a little north of the hotel on El Camino Real (walkling distance on same side as hotel) which we discovered is a 22 acre city of Atherton public park. Would be the perfect place for a walk, tennis or running with some historic buildings to enjoy along the way.
Thanks for a great visit, we'll definitely return next time we are in the area! -

Menlo Park, CA
I stayed there when I came apartment hunting last year. The staff was ultra friendly, the rooms came with a very pleasant, private little patio area with some flowers-very peaceful. Hmm..or maybe it was just that the continental breakfasts included butter croissants and nutella (rather than the usual stale bagel fare). The decor in the rooms was a bit dated, but functional and welcoming.

Review from Petricola M.
New York, NY
A pleasant surprise given the reasonable price. Arriving at night, it looked like a typical motel but over 3 days I came to really like this place. The room was quiet, modern, spacious and well equipped, the continental breakfast was ok, staff were friendly and helpful. A better-than-expected little exercise room with a good choice of new equipment and a decent-looking pool. Need a car, though. Just a bit too far to walk to Palo Alto/Stanford and public transport seemed complicated.

Family member at Stanford having big-deal surgery, so we need a place where my huge family can stay. This was the only place nearby that had a KITCHEN, not just a funky little kitchenette. We got the California Oak Family suite, and indeed, it could sleep 7 very cozily. The little living room is littler than little: Just bigger than a freight elevator. But who cares? The beds were COMFY, and besides the (2-burner, fridge, microwave, coffeemaker) kitchen, we had 3 flat screen TVs, wi-fi, DVD player, plus a mini fridge and microwave in the double-double bedroom. Super clean. Good bathrooms. Plenty-to-eat complimentary breakfast. Best of all: STAFF! Big shout out to the most gracious, nicest people, especially Jasmine. Definitely recommend it.

Sacramento, CA
The rooms were immaculate, and the place was excellent overall. Very friendly staff, nice patio to sit on next to the room, and a nice but small pool.
I didn't spend much time there, but I will definitely stay there again if I'm in the area. -

Menlo Park, CA
For its price range, the Red Cottage Inn is one of the nicest places I have stayed. The rooms are cozy but modern and very comfortable. The small balcony or porch areas associated with most rooms provide a quaint touch that is often lacking from big name hotel chains. The staff is very friendly, the complimentary continental breakfast and coffee are much better than the norm, the pool area is clean and pleasant. Free wifi included and functional!

A gem in Menlo Park. Easy distance to fine eateries, Tesla showroom, Stanford Shopping Center and Stanford University.

My husband and I stayed here for 7 nights. This was our first time to CA and my husband said I picked a hidden gem. We were not expecting to like it here so much, but we did. The staff were all friendly and very helpful. The room was very clean, we have stayed in many pricier hotels and the rooms were not this clean. We loved the homey feel of the room, we stayed in 202 pool view. Shower and amenities were very nice and roomy, bed comfortable and TV with cable channels that we didn't have to squint to see! It had a full sized sliding door leading out to a private balcony. We sat on the balcony several times reading the daily complimentary newspaper and sipping complimentary coffee that is always available in the front cafe area. There is a nice selection of breakfast foods, to name a few...bagels, muffins, oatmeal, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, orange juice. We ate breakfast every morning which was included in our room price. 24/7 internet was also included, which is a great perk these days. I don't remember when I haven't had to pay $10 extra a night for internet while traveling. The desk area was very comfortable. The rooms were full our entire stay with a nice mix of friendly people. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, in fact it's at the top of my list and you can't beat the price for this hidden gem!

My parents stayed here for 4 days in August 09 and really liked the place. It will be their first choice for the next time. There is an overall welcoming and cozy feel to this place. It's a great place for a quiet and relaxing stay. Everything looked freshly painted and lovingly taken care of. I thought the room was very nicely appointed. It really does look like the pictures. My parents commented that the beds were very comfortable. They liked the big LCD tv. My dad swam in the pool outside almost every day. The water is heated at least in the summer. My parents were happy with variety of options for breakfast that is included in price of the room. My parents stayed in the deluxe room with the private balcony, which worked out great for them. My mom who wakes up early could come out and read a book or go to the pool. I thought this place was an absolute gem for the price range.
