Warren is super helpful
Everything about this place is perfect-- super cool-- the buy back program is wonderful
they are organized, friendly, knowledgeable and always there when you need help--I like this place very much!
I make a weekly trip to this bookstore to check out their graphic novel/manga selection. I always end up buying something. Everything is at least 50% off and the quality of books is impressive. They're all pretty much brand new.
For those who whine that they don't have any "current best sellers" I would say it's a USED book store!! They're supposed to have older books! Sheesh.
A full-on orgasmic inducing plethora of books.
They have a very large used cookbook section, and all at decent prices. The sheet music section was NOT just a random cardboard box filled with random crap, it was an actual bookcase with a more than decent selection. Most of the sections were stocked very well, except for the GLBT section. Guess, I'll just have to stick to SF for that.
I wanted to stay longer, but a customer was continously flatulating throughout the store, which led to this mathematical equation:
Hot Day + No Air Conditioner + Stuffiness + Flatulence = I've got to get fresh air before I vomit..
Next time I'm in the area, I'll bring an oxygen tank, and stay a lot longer.
This is definitely my back up when Book Buyers in Mt. View won't take all the books I'm trying to sell. Plus, I do find some obscure Christmas presents. Show the cats some love and take home a novel.
I have been in and out of this place a few times and I always find something I either was looking for or something I didn't expect them to have. The organization is pretty straightforward, which is nice when you don't have a lot of time to browse.
You walk in and the smell of old books hits you, which I absolutely love, telling me I've found a fantastic place where my imagination has free reign. The stores cats are constant and friendly companions, not at all skittish of the random people that wander in.
I've both sold and bought books here. The most recent trip I stumbled upon a book of 26 women righters for a friend turning 26 and wanting to be a writer. Amazingly perfect and totally random which makes this one of my absolute favorite bookstores. The couches and chairs invite you in to sit a while while you read the fascinating book you just found.
Great local place and highly recommended!
I can't believe i haven't reviewed this yet!! I go here all of the time, because it's got tidy shelves, hardwood floors, nice people working there who clearly know their books....and best of all a resident kitty with a crooked tail...there's a story behind that tail, I just know it.
Anyway, books are half price or more, usually in very good condition.
I have found some specific Chinese History books that have been on my list forever that are out of print- Also picked up some obscure Asimov here the other day, and my hubby found a few Steinbecks that we didn't have (impossible, but true).
One thing that's not so great: the children's book section is crammed in there and hard to see what's available- this section needs some sorting work as the times I'm looking at children's books I HAVE my child with me, and we went the other day and had a hard time browsing. But this is just a little tiny eentsy comment, the rest of the store ROCKS, you should definitely visit . Parking is easy too .
This is definitely my new favorite bookstore! I tried it out purely by chance recommendation and love the amazing selection they have. I highly recommend going without a specific shopping list and just browsing for a while.
I would venture to guess that their selection rivals those of the bigger chain stores like Borders and Barnes & Nobles at half (and most of the time more than half) the price, but for the same quality book. I especially love their science section, which was filled with everything from Pinker to Bryson to Gladwell. The only thing lacking was their LGBT section, but it's impressive that they have one at all.
Even though the entire store is filled with used books and there are friendly cats roaming around, there wasn't an overpowering odor that I've smelled at other used bookstores. There was A/C and the place was spotless. The staff is also really knowledgeable and friendly.
So go grab a book already!
Good place to buy used books. I went there to window shop I was very impressed about the solection they have and the prices they charge. I would encourage everyone to check out this store when going to buy a book.
Here kitty kitty kitty! Knowing that there is a live cat walking around the shop is so cool. We caught the cat taking a nap on one of the chairs, he was so chill and comfortable with people walking around looking for books.
I love buying used stuff, and the books are so cheap compared to Wal-Mart and Target. If you are the type of reader who hates having that pressure of the library books being due in 3 weeks, then this is a great place for you to check out. Oh my friend and I noticed that the store does NOT smell funky like some used thrift shops do. They have nice hard wood floors and the place is very neat. Yea for recycled books.
If there are types of used bookstores, this one most closely resembles the most common type .. the hole-in-the-wall kind with the giant wooden shelves and books piled up everywhere, from the floor to the ceiling, with so many books and shelves that even light cannot penetrate every nook and cranny. The one place you don't want to be in an earthquake.
So yes, great selection. I cleared out everything they had by Italo Calvino while I was here, haha. Pretty reasonable prices; I've been to cheaper places, but whatever, this place is very reasonable.
I LOVE THIS PLACE.
It's cheap, eco-friendly for the fact that I'm not buying new books that require more trees, AND...
The Super Cute Orange Cat that walks around. :)
I just love sitting down and perusing my interests while stroking the cat's fur.
Did I mention this place was cheap? I'm amazed at the price of most of the books, and they're in good condition (for most)! And there are a lot of hidden treasures if you're willing to take the time.
I never walk away empty-handed.
I thought the residing Campbell location had plenty of great selections, but this is my new haven. A gold mine! I didn't find my 3rd book to the Twilight saga, but they did carry the last book, Breaking Dawn. I'm still on the hunt for the novel. If all else fails, I might have to pre-order online from Borders! Boo.
The great thing about recycled books....they cost a lot cheaper than buying a new one. If you don't mind the binding a little broken in and bent corners of a cover, this is particularly a true gem. The downside, none of the books were categorized in a helpful way. Took me a long time to rummage through a section of fictional books. I would've thought that they would categorize by author. Oh well! So, if you're in the area and want a good book to read but at a low cost....check it out here! Btw...make sure to be friendly with the cat and don't let it out. They love the lil' one!
To start this review, I'd like to note the first time I was there, I saw someone in line go to purchase Atlas Shrugged, and the clerk looked at the guy and said "...really?" in a perfect tone of voice. Anywhere that employs discerning enough literati to hate Ayn Rand can't be bad. That's just a sign of quality.
The books are all over the place, all over the prices, and all outstandingly awesome. There's not too much you can actually say about used bookstores; they either suck huge piles of ass or they rock huge piles of ass. This one rocks ass. Even if they stacked that shitty Twilight series next to the reasonably brilliant Nightwatch series (something of a travesty, but what can you do), I can't really hate, that is good financial sense.
Actually, if you're reading this, and you have a burning desire to go out and buy Twilight, I present you with two options; don't, and go find something worth reading, or just go ahead and fuckin' kill yourself, you ludicrous twatwaffle.
They've got an impressive comic selection, and impressive sci-fi selection, and a decent nerd paradise thing going on, as well as all other genres. I'm sad that they had more Kerouac than Bukowski, but then people are idiots and always have been. Always have been.
Also, they were playing the Dark Knight soundtrack today, which made buying my weird, esoteric manga even more thrilling, since it was like I was in some sort of dramatic movie wherein if I didn't buy said nerdy bullshit, someone would blow up a bus or Dennis Hopper would rape them or something.
And Dennis Hopper rape is the worst rape. Blue Velvet, f'serious.
This review is highly off topic since I'm not paying attention to what I'm writing, to be honest.
So anyway, this place rules. And, they have a "don't touch these books" on their physics books. What the fuck does that even mean? Can I not touch them? Is it some MC Hammer thing? Are they in a state of quantum flux?
Only more visits will tell.
lOve this bookstore!! Friendly staff, the fact that you can sell/trade your books for others you haven't read - it's book heaven. Recently I found a book that I've been looking all over for that's been out of print, so 4 stars for that - their selection is great for children & adults alike. Also, it doesn't hurt that there's a cute boutique and a Starbucks right around the corner ;)
Here's how my score breaks down:
5 stars: The idea of a used book store.
meh Stars: This one's execution.
I agree with the consensus, if I'm buying a rare book or a slightly worn first ed., yeah I'll pay the mark-up. But when the exact same edition can be found new on Amazon for a comparable or better price? Yikes.
I hate how I feel like I'm patronizing a charity when I come here. Bleh, I feel bad giving a used book store three stars (that's like telling keyboard cat to take piano lessons, just so not cool) but like previous yelper implied, this store lasts all of one business day in Seattle, Berkeley, Portland, etc.
I know, I know, I hate typing that kind of stuff as a life long San Jose resident, but man, we gots to get ourselves a solid used book store. But I love the staff! Really, you're all nice!
I like this store because they always seem to have what I am looking for. I am a total freak when it comes to finding metaphysics books and Vonnegut novels. This place has not let me down yet. Their prices are reasonable, so much that they are actually cheaper here than at the other location in Downtown Campbell. Both stores seem to have a resident cat.
The employees have always been helpful when I ask them to find something and they seem to really care about the customers.
It is a hidden gem in a sketchy area, but it is worth it.
The Recycle Bookstore is not for some.
There are those who cannot stomach the fact that whatever they are buying has been previously owned. There are those who prefer the bright and shiny shelves of Borders or Barnes and Nobles. There are those who reject old carpet and furniture. And there are those who are allergic to cats.
The Recycle Bookstore is somewhat like a cross between a dusty, hole-in-the-wall pawn shoppe and a cozy, local library. The shelves are packed with books from top to bottom, yet it is easy to find what you are looking for (but still, if you're looking for a specific book, call ahead of time and ask). The books are generally in quite good condition, with maybe a crease or two in the spine to show that they have been previously loved. The selection is much, much larger than one would expect (the shelves wind into more corridors as they near the back of the store) based on the exterior. You can find anything from oversized art books and cook books to bestselling fiction and metaphysical guides. The atmosphere is very cozy and local, and the staff is personable and helpful. The best part? Without a second's doubt, the cats.
There are few flaws to find in a place like this, but they are there. The prices on more recent, popular books, for example, won't be more than a few dollars off. If you're really looking for EXTREMELY cheap books for older or more obscure works, head to a library book sale and pick them up for cents apiece.
Otherwise, the Recycle Bookstore is a lovely place. The atmosphere is charming, and almost nostalgic, in a time of high tech consumerism. It's the kind of place where life can slow down to a lazy crawl. I recommend entering with an open mind and time to browse. It's for those kinds of people.
The staff is not helpful. I already knew they didn't have a database (although they should), I asked if they could help me find a book. She said maybe. All she did was point to where the book may be. Psh!

I could spend hours in here if I didn't go in with a list of books that I wanted to get. The books… Read more »
I didn't see any cats here, so I'm not quite sure what the other reviewers were talking about. o.O
The first thing I noticed when I stepped foot into this store were the nice hardwood floors! The books here are like new! Most books are at least 50%off unless they are a new/popular book, then it's like a dollar off the cover price. I've been to cheaper bookstores, but I like the cleaner feeling of slightly used books at Recycle Book Store. I liked their wooden signs hanging from the ceiling what would tell you what section you are in. They were really helpful if you are walking towards the signs. But if you are walking back, there's nothing written on the other side.=\ Also, I wish their travel section was larger. I noticed there were a lot of cookbooks, fiction, and sci-fi books.
They always have books on sale for $1 or more right at the front of the door, unlike most stores have sale items all the way in the back. I saw a lot of people selling their books that day too. They have some chairs and a table near the art section of the bookstore! :) This bookstore overall is nicer than most other used bookstores. It most felt like a home library.
My friend and I had some time to kill before our next Cinequest film started, so we dropped by Recycle Book Store to browse around. We spent at least an hour inside roaming the many shelves and were pretty impressed with what we saw. I wouldn't hold it on the same level as, say, Moe's in Berkeley (which has multiple floors), but there's a great amount of stuff contained into what probably isn't that huge a place. Seems pretty clean inside, too.
The markdowns seemed pretty decent. I found a sweet new edition of Essays of EB White for $7ish, the Little Prince for $2, and Aristotle's Art of Rhetoric for $6. Not bad at all. My friend (who majored in Art History) had a rad time browsing the Art section and got a couple of books from there. It's important to control yourself in a used bookstore because the books are often cheap enough that you figure you can get just a few more. But then those few more end up being kind of a lot more than you figure you should spend, so then you have to do a little debate with yourself about what you actually want to own and what you can get at the library.
What I like to do if I see something interesting that I'm not sure I want to actually buy is to take a picture of the cover with my cameraphone. Or you can do what my friend does and jot down the title and author in a notebook for later reference. I definitely ran into some interesting titles at Recycled Book Store that I'll look up later. It was actually a good thing that the store wasn't too large because I could conveniently browse a lot of different categories instead of just dawdling by the fiction section.
If you want to get a recent bestseller or mass-market paperback, you probably want to check out Costco instead of a used bookstore (since... the whole point of a used bookstore is that they resell books which have been out long enough to *get* resold). However, if you enjoy reading a wide variety of things, dig instant gratification (as opposed to waiting for ebay/http://half.com bids to get shipped), or just want to score some older books for less than they'd cost on Amazon, check this place out.
Also we saw one of the cats sleeping in a basket in the corner. It was cute. I didn't notice any cat smell, but if that sort of thing seriously bothers you (or more importantly, if you're allergic to cats), you might want to go elsewhere for your cheap bookworm needs.
You remember when Charlie opened the Wonka Bar and he saw the sparkle of light from the rim of the golden ticket that would change his life? Imagine thats you. You hold it real tight. You look to your right. Nobody there... You look to your left. Nobody there... You get excited. You feel your insides twisting. You start sweating. You're so excited you're going to explode. You want to tell someone but you're frightened they'll beat you over the head with a blunt stick and steal that ticket.
Well that was me on after my last visit to The Recycle Book Store in San Jose. I found a book I'd literally been searching over ten years for. Granted - it took me at least an hour to wade through the sea of books, but isn't that the point of going to a second hand book shop? This place is awesome. I'll be coming back here on a regular basis. You just never know what you're going to find. My only gripe was the rather butch women who talks at 130 dB. I'm really not that interested in hearing about your vacation plans honey.
If you can read or if you are learning to read or if you just like looking for pretty shapes hidden in printed text, then you should make the effort to explore this place.
PS: Are you proud JZ? I didnt mention pussy cat once.
I don't know why all the reviews for this place are so high. This is a terrible used book store. All the books are ancient (no current best-sellers, hardly anything even published this millennium). Unless you want your books smelling like cats or you don't mind old romance novels, stay away.
As for me, I'm going to stick with buying used books from amazon or http://half.com
I have a problem with used bookstores that try to fill the whole space with books. One problem is that I had a book fall on my head. Another is that the quality of books here is not as good as the Recycle Book Store in Campbell. I encountered a lot of dirty childrens' books at this location that were priced too high. Books with smears and sticky covers should have ended up at the Salvation Army with a much smaller price tag.
There are books crammed into every crevice of this place and are piled to the ceiling. This is a store for browsing and *maybe* finding. Buy online if you really need to find something fast.
They have a friendly cat. I know the cat at the other location is named ISBN but this one I wasn't sure. It came up to me, meowed, and sort of lead the way for me on my way out of the maze of books. Thank you rescue kitty!
I have to admit it was kind of fun being in a place that was almost completely covered in books, but in an earthquake I think only the cat would be safe.
My favorite used book store. I'm seriously addicted to Romance novels and they usually have the books I'm looking for. Most of the time they look practically brand new. The Campbell store is also a great store but doesn't have as many books as the San Jose location
The building looks old, the carpet is ragged, shelves are crammed with books (more books than they should hold), and the furniture looks like it came from Goodwill. In other words, it has the charm of a second hand book shop, complete with the cat (sleeping in the corner) and musty smells.
There are three rooms in this fairly large bookstore and everything is fairly well organized. I dig the old wooden signs that hang above and indicate topics (e.g., psychology, history, local interest, mystery, business). Fiction books are organized by author, history by topic, cookbooks by region, etc.
They have a few new books but most of the books are secondhand and priced at about 50% off list price. They also have some DVDs and Gossip Girl books. The place is not well-lit but that adds to the run-down charm. Great selection, a place to browse at a leisurely pace. Thanks to the name of the store, I felt eco-conscious as I made my purchase.
A large used bookstore with a wide selection, including history, science, science fiction and fantasy, horror, and role-playing games. The staff are savvy enough to sell the rare gaming items on the Internet, so don't expect any bargains you wouldn't find online. They have two cats to greet visitors.
I'm happy to say that this location is much better than the last place they were. Bigger and much easier to find things in . They're not as thorough a used bookstore as places like Bookbuyers, but they're really good. I haven't seen a bookstore with prices in the same league that has as many Graphic Novels and Art Books. That's what I usually go for.
The various genre sections are pretty good. I like the SF section, which is pretty good.
They buy with a serious eye and you get OK back for what they take in trade, but cash is tiny, which is the only negative. Yes, I know that's how it works, but 25% of what they sell them for in Trade is good, and then 12% in cash is a little rough.
Recycle Book Store isn't the place to go if you are looking for something specific. This is the place to go when you have time to browse. You will probably come out of there with a book on a topic you had never heard of before. The floor to ceiling shelves (which are probably an earthquake hazard) are well stocked with just about any topic you can imagine. The cats really make the ambiance complete.
Incidentally, the owner tells me that the cat's union will shut down any used book store that doesn't have at least one cat.
Not a place you want to be during an earthquake, with its densely shelved floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall reams and mountainous reams of books. What a way to go: crushed to death under a literary avalanche! But if you're some sort of perverse bibliophile, you'll get a moist quiver in the loins here.
Recycle Book Store stocks an unreal amount of books spanning a great range of genres, from pretentious canon to nerd-fare to housewife masturbation material to blowhardy New Age to supermarket pulp to equally pretentious artsy-fartsy. You name it and they'll probably have at least one copy of it somewhere in their vast biblioverse.
Beyond the book selection, the staff is quiet and unintrusive, so you don't have to worry about a stockboy or girl looking over your selection process and passing scathing verdict on you and the embarrassing crap you read. The store is tight and cozy, not rundown but worn-in like a garage sale couch. The friendly cat that roams about the store adds a nice finishing touch and the sniffles if you're allergic.
Even if you're not looking to make a purchase, you'll get the sense that just roving the aisles in the store's musty air, pulling out a book with an interesting title or cover once in a while, is as much the point of going there as to make a purchase. To just be around that many books spanning the chronology that Recycle Bookstore stocks makes you feel like you're at a historical landmark of some sort. It's worth it just to visit the place, if only to marvel at the awesome preponderance of old books.
For someone who supposedly doesn't read, I'm in here a lot.
I don't expect Recycle Bookstore to carry every book that gets suggested to me, but I always take a chance that it's in the store. Half the time it is, and damn, is that a pleasant surprise.
At any given time there are between two and 12 people in the store, not counting the one to three staffers working. It's mostly a lifer-crowd of book buyers; the same people at the same hours--it's a hang out.
Recycle Bookstore has a very San Jose-attitude of "'there's a good chance that you'll find the thing you're looking for--but if it's not here, sorry, but hey, there are those last three books you've been meaning to buy, and another book that looks interesting and isn't expensive, and hey! we do have that first book here after all.' Of course you buy the whole lot because it's books and it's only $35, and it's not a big deal either way." SO San Jose.
If you're a San Jose type, then then you'll dig it: it's local, they'll appreciate the business, you're already there, you can hang out forever and you won't feel guilty about buying nothing or using their bathroom--twice. In fact, if you like books AT ALL you'll dig it.
(BTW: The other Recycle Bookstore is SO Campbell you'll want it to get over itself. I don't know much about Campbell, but that store had books about water towers, farmers' markets and the Pruneyard. Go figure.)
I agree, the cats are cute. The staff is not helpful and there are actually rude handwritten notes admonishing patrons in a not so subtle way to return books EXACTLY where they are found. Well, the freakin shelves are packed so tightly that once you remove a book there is no way you are getting that puppy back in. Besides, I do believe the help gets PAID to do SOMETHING and since they dont help customers I figured maybe they could handle cramming the books back on the shelves. I'm from Reno and I'm used to used bookstores that actually employ people who work for their earnings and sell true bargains, of which the only ones I found here were practically decaying, old yellowed books that probably should be recycled. Oh, and one more thing, how can a bookstore have such a stupid and grammatically incorrect name?
Recycle is well known enough to be more than a hidden cache of reasonably priced books, and yet for an East Bay resident like myself, it's far enough off the beaten path to make the 45+ minute drive worthwhile.
I'm not much of a collector, and although many of the titles/editions I'm looking for aren't rare, a lot of them are uncommon and in some cases, highly sought after.
I look at it this way: I can come away with a stack of inexpensive books with one trip to Recycle that would require who knows how many trips to an East Bay bookstore (yes, even Moe's), where nerds like me spend hours scouring for books so we can check them off our lists.
Recycle has a ridiculously good selection of general fiction as well as genre fiction. The Art selection isn't too shabby either, and I'd say the History section is on par with some of the best bookstores in the Bay Area. Plus, the employees are super nice.
It's an essential stop.
I was over at Pierce Ink and I had to wait about an hour for my tattoo artist to finish up so I mosey along over to check this place out. If not for the fact that I have a shelf full of books waiting for me to read I could really stock up in here. They have all the usual suspects for a used bookstore but if you dig through the paperbacks and the obscure stuff there is a fine selection of hard to find books that you would normally not even think off. If I said it here than I would have competition for it right?? Sorry you are going to have to spend some time and dig around in here to find your own "diamond in the rough"

Excellent used book store! This place is crammed with lots of books and you can easily spend hours here looking around. There are three rooms, so it can take a little while to find everything. Most sections are fairly well alpha organized, but there are piles on the floor as well. The had especially impressive mystery, sci fi and cookbook sections - in my opinion.
They also have manga and used dvds too.
Most of the regular paperbacks I picked up were anywhere from $3.50 to $4 and trade paperbacks were more like $7.50. I have to admit I had 3 or 4 books I was hoping to find and struck out on all counts. I did find lots of other great reads though.
A great way to be Green and help the household budget - buy recycled books. That way you're not adding to the environmental impact of the printing and shipping of new books when a used one (often I buy them in almost-new condition) will do.
I love this place. I love it from the smell of book dust (without the disturbing smell of book mildew), to the stacks of books that didn't have shelf-room, to the maze of shelves through a variety of different rooms, to the kids section which seems to overflow with amazing books I never notice in the chain stores (sometimes because they're just not carried in the chain stores!), to the store cats who sometimes want to help sometimes are standoffish and sometimes do actually do their best to convince you they need to go outside (for which there is a warning on the front door).
The staff are always friendly, and when I've called ahead to check if they have something in stock, it's always there when I show up at the desk to ask for it (something that so often fails to happen at the chain stores). The staff always are happy to chat a bit about books, authors, and recommendations - unless they're particularly busy with a shipment, which I think has happened all of once since I started going here.
Everything a used bookstore should be - except for a frightful lack of comfy reading chairs. Thankfully it doesn't cost too much to buy the books and take them home to the chair I have there though :)
Edit: The last time I was in there, I realized I'd never noticed they have a reading area in the front of the second part of the store - I so rarely go in that section I'd never noticed it before!
The store has more books than I will ever read in this lifetime. I could probably spend an entire afternoon walking the narrow isles and rediscovering authors and titles that I forgot about in college or even earlier (like the Hardy Boys series). This store provided me some observations that I found were interesting, here's one: the number of erotica books seem to outnumber the Bibles and other Christian faith resources by 2:1. One really gets the feel for what people are consuming: romance, mystery, science fiction, western. If the number of books in each genre are an indicator, it wouldn't take Sherlock Holmes much time to realize that we bookworms are odd folk, albeit smart!
Trade or sell your books. I can't figure the trade math, but I'm happy to support the store and I'm not interested in getting rich off of a trade on books that were taking up space on my desk.
Good location. Good atmosphere. It feels like a bookstore when you are in there, not like B&N for sure. The cat was following me for a while inside the mystery section but I quickly ditched it by picking up a romance novel.
I encourage you to visit if you love books and support people who love books.
This place reminds me of my childhood. My mom never bought full price books and still does not. I remember going there with my mom when I was young and looking through the stacks for hours and coming out with one or two books that I may or may not have ended up reading. My mom would leave with self-help and when I was really young I would leave with horror.
Buying books at the Recycle Bookstore allows you to come away with a good feeling that you cannot get when shopping at chain bookstores, when you walk away even with five or six books you don't feel guilty for the amount of money you spent you feel proud that you found awesome books that you may not have been looking for.
My book choice has definitely changed over the years but what hasn't changed is the comfort of a place that I have known since youth that has seen my weird book tastes change, sometimes for the worst, but mostly for the better, allowing my mind to grow in any chosen direction.
Living just steps away from this store is perfection. I can literally walk downstairs and be transported into an old, tangible world where I recognize the cats and feel safe knowing I won't be sidetracked by glossy magazines or asked if I want to sign up for their preferred readers card.
I came here looking for a specific book, which is awful because there's no system in efficiently and effectively finding a specific title in this store. There are so many books.. and while looking for my book (which btw I did not find), there were a ton of other great books for more than half the retail price.
When I finally gave up looking for my book, my sister, little cousin and I checked out the children's area - it rocks. A little dangerous for little kids to rummage through but I love the nostalgia. I ended up buying a few titles that I loved as a kid.
All in all, prices rock. The smell.. it's dusty old book smell - bring tissues, esp if you have allergies (like me!). And don't come with a specific title in mind.. just take your time looking through each aisle and you will definitely find something to take home. They also take card/atm, which is always good for someone like me who never carries cash.
This is where I go to find that old textbook that nobody wants anymore. Much like diving into a garage sale or flea market, I can spend hours here. Today, I picked up an old engineering book for work. Although it was dated back in 1988, it was filled with rich information that will support my understanding and dynamics with commercial buildings. Although it was still pricey, it was one of a kind and could not be found at Borders or Ebay. Besides, I'm the type of bargain shopper that reads the book before purchasing. I've made several mistakes buying books online and being disappointed after several chapters.
Takes special orders: No. It's much like a used CD shop. What ever is out on display is what they have. I always a have tendency to check their new arrival bins first.
Perfect for First and Second Dates: Yes. Test your potential mate's intellectual skills here. If they ask for the magazine section or video gaming books, drop them.
