RAD find during my travels.  i could have spent days in there sifting through all the lp's...not to mention the bazillion 45's.  this place is a goldmine and i'm jealous as hell that i don't have this down the street from my house.

older hippy cat working there who is almost worth the visit itself.  he was pulling out records for me to listen to and helping me find items on my list.  guy knows his store.  he was cracking me up as i was "trying" to listen to the records on the store player through his constant chatter to me about this album or that.

i'm going back today with more albums to hunt out.  wish me luck.  no, wish my wallet luck.

i used to go here w/ my dad when i was a teenager ( and the beat when it was a long hallway and you could 'borrow' LP's, damn i'm old).  i loved that it was a million miles of piles and i smelled like someone's musty attic.

i was super excited to hear that it re-opened and it was in the 'hood.

+ it still smells like someone's attic, although the piles are less it still has that 'feeling'.

+ i LOVE that there are handwritten recommendations on the albums (by kevin the owner, says scott). it's like a mini 'zine on a stick on label.

+ did i say it's mostly vinyl records? it's like thrift store shopping but with vinyl records.

+ an eclectic selection with the celebrities and folk singers being the best bits ( they had a spoken word album of ally sheedy reading poetry. eclectic.)

sidenote:  the most recent time i was here was during 'record day'.  i was NOT impressed with the 'hard sale' from the record sellers that day or their selection.  i hope people who were at the sale sauntered into this store.

Vinyls aren't alphabetized. The store smelled like body odor and urine. I'm very disappointed by my visit to this place - everyone else seemed to have an amazing experience.

Records' move to Broadway is still apparently news to a lot of folks. According to Kevin, the owner, they have gotten a lot more people walking in to sell record collections simply because having a parking lot makes it easier to bring in crates of records. So far, though, they still have to inform customers where they are to get them to come in and buy records.

The records...oh, the records! There's vinyl, there are a few CDs, in genres too many to mention and at various price points, and there are also DVDs, for rent or for purchase. The rental section is not your corner video store, but rather they focus on obscure foreign films, midnight movies, horror and classic cult films. They don't have the latest Hollywood hits, but they have plenty of Kenneth Anger, Jodorowsky, Shaw Brothers, and other film-nerd satisfaction. Beats the hell out of Blockbuster.

The former Tower site is now occupied by three separate businesses that sell basically the same thing that Tower used to--videos, books and records--but in new forms. A fitting role for the neighborhood, and enough stuff in a small space to keep the desire for multiple media well-satisfied.

Records has moved to the Broadway location where Tower Video used to be. They have a voluminous selection of used vinyl records at reasonable prices. Snagged a couple of Buck Owens records for $4.95 each. Old music just sounds better on vinyl than digital. Put the needle down and hear the Bakersfield sound. They have 33's as well as gobs of 45's. A blast to sift through all the old records.

Bein' out in Sac, I've only been here once so far, but it's pretty cool. First of all, don't get discouraged if you walk in the old Tower Records location and feel like you're in Sam Goody circa 1993, the vinyl is all down the block in an unmarked green building! Phew! Now, the thing that I took away from "Records" is that they have a lot of pretty cool looking 70's rock/pop/soft-rock/whatever stuff that I had no idea what it was, priced kinda all over the place. Guess I need to do some more homework. But anyways, this place has a well stocked selection worthy of a few hours of digging, prices are reasonable and there's a good sized $1.99 section, always a plus. I bought a sizeable stack of records and the guy took some $ of the top, another plus. Closer to SF and I'd visit regularly, as it stands "Records" is worthy of the occasional weekend day-trip for sure.

thanks yelpites for this cool place.

not for yuppies. not for those looking for the newest singles or anything specific.  those looking for fun samples, to play and experiment with new genres take heed...this is a digger's paradise.

i'm a hip hop head and pee'd a little when i saw the collection of old school hip hop.  yes, it's small, most of them are obscure, but gems abound.

i too was a little confused, entering the place.  once i found my niche it was over...30 minutes and 10 dusty fingers later, i'm walkin out with a good stack of wax and $20 less in my wallet.

prices were buy 1 get 2 free for some of them...dunno how it was priced, either way, you'll be walking out with a deal guaranteed.

don't be fooled by the fake cat sleeping on the computer monitor...i did.

wish i had more time there...one lonely listening station.

AWESOME place to crate-dig for quality used records.

I was doing some last minute shopping for my ex-roommate's birthday and ended up with some quality vintage Kraftwerk, Lisa Lisa, Cymande and some Cabaret Voltaire LPs/12"s for dirt cheap.

Note:  This shop's interior was used for the cover of DJ Shadow's Endtroducing record.
