Recon and DQM are definitely my favorite two boutiques to visit in SoHo. Staff was very friendly and acknowledged my presence (which seems to be a rare occasion by reading some of the reviews here on Yelp), and I'm personally a fan of their in-house brand. The little backpack things they give you are a nice touch as well. A nice selection of Nikes, the cute Asian girl climbing up and down the ladder to fetch shoes, and a decent selection of clothing forrrrr theeee wiiiiiin.
Best sneaker spot in NYC. Where i go when i just have to have 4 pairs of new Nikes right now. Which is often.

Not much of what they offer sets them apart from the mainstream kicks you see currently displayed along Broadway. And the two female employees don't even pass for sneaker afionados - one girl was wearing flats for crissakes. But my sis did purchase a pair of forgotten kicks in her always-sold-out-size-5.5/6.

For a sneaker head like me when I went to New York, the first place I needed to go to was Soho and all the shoe boutiques. One of the shoe boutiques I stepped foot into was Recon / Nort.
They had a good selection of shoes to pick from, but when I go back to New York, I might just skip this store. The customer service was straight awful. The girl at the register does not even acknowledge you when you walk through the door. And when I asked the other staff members a question they were pretty useless.
All in all, they have a great selection of shoes, but there are places in Soho and Manhattan to find the same quality in kicks.

Staff wasn't helpful at all. They didn't even acknowledge I was there. That's fine.
Their shoe setup is pretty sweet though. All the shoes in stock are behind the glass wall, so you really don't have to ask a staffer if your size is in stock. What you see is what you get.
At least I can finally say I visited the infamous Recon / Nort store.
Bring on the next "it" shoe boutique.
Boutique (as in small and freaky sans special) sneaker holes in NY are like ABC stores in Hawaii: they're everywhere, carry the same shit, and 80% of the merchandise consists of things you would only purchase in a delusional mindset while on vacation. Hence was my situation.
I love sneakers, I wear them whenever I can, and I like to have kicks that reflect my personal style. I'm somewhere in between plain vanilla adidas clams and the $500 Kanye West BA.
Nort is somewhat of a joke, there were more people "working" there than they had shoes on display. The kicks were nothing that anybody else carried, just the same shit at a different address.
Save yourself the time forgo the experience.
Overall, not real good times.

Looking for one of a kind, overhyped and overpriced kicks?
....just look out for the shoe dorks camped out on Lafayette.
