On our trip from PHX to Texas, we got hungry and thought let's hit Benson for lunch.  We were driving thru and saw this diner and plenty of cars and thought, why not?  Glad we did, pretty good diner food, not excellent but very good overall.  The decor is a little odd, old diner with a mix of things on the wall.  The servers have the old diner attitude and they certainly know their regulars.

I had breakfast here once.  It was cheap, but the portions were small, and the quality was in the "nothing special" range.  The decor?  Nothing special, there, too.  I won't go back.

This was what a stereotype of an old, out of the way type diner/cafe is like.  Every type was working there.

Was the food great... I had breakfast... No, but the experience was fun in a surreal kind twilight zone of way.

Horrible.  I had the lean healthy choice selection which was a piece of tough greasy chicken, a dollop of cottage cheese and canned peaches in heavy syrup.  That was it.  How is that supposed to lean or healthy?  It had no seasoning and was barely edible.  Too bad there are so few choices to eat in Benson otherwise we would have gone elsewhere.  Chef Binkley get your ass down here and open us up a destination restaurant.

Hmmm, Hmmmm, Good.  I had an amazing waffle with icecream dish and it was to die for.  I'm so glad we found this diner on Yelp.

i was driving through from San Diego to Miami and stopped at a friend's in Phoenix along the way.  As I was heading south on I-10, I stopped to get gas and use the facilities at a gas station where I asked the cashier if she knew of a good place to get from grub.  She told me about Reb's and that she had worked there.  So, I went.

I ordered Reb's Breakfast special with toast and grits. It was my first time eating grits.  I couldn't help but think of "My Cousin Vinny".  I also rdered a vanilla shake.  They filled my glass, topped the shake with whipped cream, a fake cherry and sprinkles.  The kicker, they give you the metal cup which had another glassful and then some.

Food was great. Decor was so unique and comforting.  Service was slow, friendly and with a touch of love.

NOTE ABOUT SERVICE: A sign is posted twice in the cafe, and reads, "This is not a fast food restaurant.  This is a good food restaurant. So have patience! Good food takes time to prepare."  It truly is good food.

    Stop in.  Slow down.  Enjoy.

Reb's is just about everything you'd expect from a breakfast diner.  The interior looks like it dropped right out of the late 70s, and fat, carbohydrates and sodium are all served up in good healthy portions.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking it - it's hot, tasty, stick-to-your-ribs comfort food, and sometimes that's exactly what you want.

As diner-food goes, they know how to do it right - both my hash browns and my corned beef hash were the proper mix of soft and crispy, and my over-easy eggs were just about perfect.  The serving sizes are excellent (filling without being too huge), and while the fat content of the food may be high, it's appetizingly so - not swimming in grease like many similar places.

So why haven't I given them a higher rating?  Well, what it comes down to is...I'm spoiled.  I live right near one of the best breakfast restaurants in the state (if not the entire US), and their prices aren't any higher.  True, it's in Bisbee, which is a little farther out of the way for a lot of folks, but right now they're my gold standard and Reb's doesn't *quite* match up.  Which isn't to say we won't stop by again on our way to Tucson sometime...can't beat the location, it's right on the interchange to the highway.

If by some chance you find yourself in Benson and you're in the mood for breakfast, Reb's is your go to place if just for the home fries ,which should be the standard for home fries around the world...perfection. The hash browns are the best hash browns you have ever had in your life. The biscuit is good. I've had better (Pork store, SF)....Nice nice waitresses who all look like their name should be Flo or Wanda,,,and I mean that as a compliment. They are the model for friendliness and efficiency. The very good coffee keeps coming. Your cup is never empty as it is continually being topped off. Eggs up were flawless. The entire breakfast was about 4 bucks per person! Incredible...Oh, there is one room with nothing but pictures of Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne and Harley motorcycles.

Reb's Cafe is a fun place to have breakfast, lunch or dinner.  At night, it's packed with a bunch of old folks who probably adore John Wayne, guns, and G Bush, btw there are John Wayne pics up all over.  They allow smoking, which stinks.

Their food can be pretty good (fried chicken) or probably just awful (soups, salads, sandwiches).  I've had it good a few times for dinner but I guess it depends on what cook you get, when you go and who is pissed off that day.  It tasted like real food.  Avoid the corporates when in Benson, you might find the food tastes better.

This is a cute little dinner.  The menu was large and the staff was really nice.  I got a BLT. It was piled with perfectly cooked bacon. Not overly chewy nor overly crunchy. The tomato was pretty good (which is saying something coming from a tomato snob).

The food was good, and there is a lot of variety on the menu (diner fare and Mexican as well).  Breakfast served all day.  The clientele are interesting (as are the servers), and the place has the makings of a classic.

Interesting interior. Cars, motorcycle, Hollywood photos.
    Service OK. Clean.
    Their sausage patties were substandard.

Horrible place.  But in this small town, there isnt much to choose from.  The place was not crowded at all, roughly three other customers.  I had their chicken Parmesan.  Talk about doing it wrong.  First off the chicken was not fried nor was it sauteed.  It seemed to be boiled chicken breast on top of a bed of pasta with marinara sauce poured on top.  The sauces was watered down and tasted bland.  And to my surprise there was one small piece of canned mushroom in the entire plate.  I'm not sure if it's suppose to be there, but from the looks of it, it wasn't suppose to be eaten.  Worst place ever....
