It's really the only true vegan restaurant I've been to, but it's fantastic. The ingredients are extremely fresh and there is no flavor lacking. Many dishes are based off tofu, tempeh, seitan, or fresh veggies.
The salisbury seitan was like a great vegan TV dinner. The mashed potatoes and gravy were really solid too. RFD offers a wide array of fresh fruits with which to make smoothies or juices. They also have a rotating list of specials. Make sure you do not miss out on their desserts. The chocolate peanut butter cake was really good. I would have never known it was vegan by its taste.
The ambiance is real nice and mellow. It's a little on the pricier side considering portions, but it's fresh, tasty, and something different. You feel fully sated but not stuffed after dinner and dessert.
My favorite!
I go back and forth with vegan diet on my own but can NEVER resist dinner at RFD. RDF is for everyone, from Hollywood stars (sat next to Jessica Alba) to skeptical meat lovers, to devoted vegan dieters.
Everything I have had there has been nothing but outstanding. My ex-boyfriend and I have made it our routine to meet up for dinner at RFD. I have been there on dates, taken relatives from out of town, had brunch, lunch and dinner... From full-on carnivores, to foodies... have not met a single person who did not appreciate RFD.
My personal favorite: lentil pate, and satisfy my soul.
I ate here yesterday, I had the Thanksgiving teaser, boy was it good.
A bit expense, but worth it. A nice place for a casual dinner.
The best vegan food I've ever eaten! I had the December special- Mexico City tacos: two crispy tacos made with red chili beans, tempeh and vegetables, smoky chipotle cream, avocado, fiesta rice, and roasted plantains. TALK ABOUT DELICIOUS. The flavor of the taco mixture was out of this world, cumin delight! Paired with the chipotle cream and avocados, it was PERFECT. This is the kind of dish you want to eat every day; then again I am a mexican food addict. My bf had the club, with RFD's own tempeh bacon and breaded seitan. It was also very enjoyable, and apparently the salad was great too. We ended up taking a 'faux-stess' cupcake to go for our roadtrip back to SF. This baby was loaded with rich chocolate and was very very moist. Take that animal fat! Only downside is that lunch cost us $50 but damn is it vegan, organic and delicious.
dude. the nachos.
seriously.
LOVE this place. What they do is certainly specific, but they sure do it well.
I'm not veg, but I still thoroughly enjoy their food. My favorite is the spaghetti and "meat"balls.
This is a true gem! Loved everything, being a vegan this is a real treat! Favorite dishes thus far: Sunday brunch Waffles are the best I ever had- wheat free, the tempeh bacon that comes with it is amazing and tastes to real to believe. My meat eating bf loved the bacon so much and actually said the club was the best club he has ever had! Keep in mind there is no meat in this one! Fab place to take all. Just don't sit outside, the crazies love to scream and taunt the rfd customers sitting there...
How have I never reviewed this RFD? I LOVE RFD. If it wasn't so damn expensive I would eat here 5 times a week. By far the BEST things on the menu are the Club (which they raised the price by $5 when it cost $10 to begin with...ABSURD!), the nachos and the burrito. The tempeh bacon has kept me veggie. So smoky, crunchy and satisfying. there are many other good "healthy" options on the menu, including their salads (the ceaser is bomb chicky bomb bomb), but I know how to steam veggies at home and make a darn good salad, so it's not something I would pay much for at a restaurant.
In general I have found the specials at RFD are very hit-or-miss, usually miss. They are the most expensive dishes on the menu (now $17 or $18) and i have been disappointed with them one too many times to keep trying them out. I think the problem with the specials are they overload on veggies that tend to be undercooked and the flavors of the ingredients all taste too similar rather than a blending of unique tastes.
Desserts at RFD are also meh. Usually vegan cakes are dry, and no exception here. The chocolate pudding is really good though, as is the coconut cream pie. the cookies were good but make sure they are fresh or they will too be dry and crumbly. If you do go for dessert get something that is creamy and moist, not predominantly cake.
The other week I had their brunch (a rarity for me to not get one of my top three choices from above) and the pancakes were THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD. I could not believe 1. that they were vegan and 2. that maybe they were healthy! they were the perfect fuffly, nutty, crispiness you would expect from the best pancakes ever. they came out pipping hot and my dining companions agreed that they were darn good. i also shared no huevos rancheros and they were average. i eat eggs and so can't get too excited about scrambled tofu. overall the dish seemed like it was missing something, too. it was a little dry and they were chintzy with the salsa.
This place is great. They have delicious soups and salads. I especially liked their taco o the town. Although I was not a big fan of their fake wheat meat. I visit them whenever I have the urge for some healthy vegan food in West Hollywood.
Hello, my name is Melissa, and I'm a full-blown carnivore. I dislike vegetables and fruits of any sort. Meat and potatoes any day for me, please.
My boyfriend took me to this restaurant assuring me that it tastes amazing and that the fake-bacon was delicious. Please, tell me more about fake bacon. Sounds great.
But I was very surprised. I had the BLT appetizer and it was absolutely delicious (he was right, the fake bacon was great!). After we finished we ordered a slice of banana creme pie and chocolate pudding. SO GOOD! I had to keep reminding myself that this was a vegan restaurant throughout the meal; seemed almost too good to be true.
The first time I dined at Real Food Daily was at the one in Santa Monica. I had a really great experience at that location. This time around the food was just ok. With the exception of the Nachos. I had the Salisbury Seitan with mashed potatoes and caesar salad. The best part about that dish was the caesar salad. The mashed potatoes were highly under seasoned. In fact a lot of our main dishes were very under seasoned that night. The seitan was alright but a little dry. We ordered some desserts to go and they all tasted really good. I had the oreo cookie cake.
OMG yes! This is my favorite restaurant. Period. I was turned on to this place years ago. My background: vegetarian most of my life (since age 11), raised macrobiotic... so that should tell you that my taste is not quite the average.
Now the nachos. You see everyone is raving about them and they are just that good. I do love cheese and these are cashew cheese but quite simply the best nachos I have had anywhere. I have to order them every time I go and I'm not even a fan of nachos regularly. I love to get them with seitan and the spicy cashew cheese. Heaven.
They also serve really great Teechino lattes. I like to get mine with rice milk. No matter what I do or how I try I can not duplicate these at home. I have no idea what their method is. In all these years I have not figured it out. Its incredible. I don't even crave coffee when I drink theirs and I love my coffee so that's saying a lot.
As far as meals I won't make any recommendations because I always go back to my roots here and order some whole grain with lots of greens and ginger sort of dish and reading the other reviews I know that's just probably not the average. There are plenty of other options on the menu.
I would love to try desert someday but after all that I'm completely satisfied and I definitely have leftovers.
Why did I give my favorite restaurant four stars out of five? Well they are a bit pricey and I don't get to indulge all that often. That is my sole complaint.
One more thought: They have resurrected an ability to enjoy Thanksgiving for me. It has become my tradition to order my annual feast from this restaurant and have my cousin bring it over to my aunt's house. Bless them! Before I was the lone vegetarian eating a frozen meal or scrounging for anything that would do. Now I eat like a queen. Huzzah for their Thanksgiving faire.
My dad and I ate here before hitting the surf at santa monica state beach. Perfect combo. They have a plate that their menu describes as providing the 5 elements of energy. In other words a macrobiotic plate. It had a bean, a grain, squash, root vegetable, pickles and steamed greens. It also came with a bowl of white miso soup, we ordered a second bowl of that which made it so we each got a bowl and then the large plate it's self was enough food for both of us. Also it came with a starter of corn bread with this amazing carrot dip.
So from this one experience that had extremely friendly staff I'd definitely go back and I'd also highly recommend this place to anyone who has a chance to go.
Probably the most consistently good vegan restaurant in southern California. Compared with the competition, RFD usually comes out on top.
The price is a bit high--you do pay the veggie premium--but it's not inordinate compared with other restaurants of this type.
I strongly recommend getting the bread with the carrot spread.
The ruben is great, as is the club sandwich. Also, the salads are excellent.
Deserts are usually not disappointing. Go for it.
4.5 stars.
When I go to RFD, I sound something like this...
Mmmmyummmymmmyummmm.
Got it?
It's always the same thing when I come here...start with the nachos (split them!), then the club sandwich, and finish with the chocolate pudding. I usually take half the sandwich home.
I frequent both this location and the one in Santa Monica. Two different atmospheres. The Santa Monica RFD is much more...laid back? Hippie-fied? I don't know how to describe it. The one in Hollywood is way more..Hollywood. More chic, chill? I am really excelent with discriptions, if you couldn't tell.
Note on the pudding...before I went vegan, I didn't like pudding. I stayed away from pudding! But the waitress suggested the RFD one and it is sooooo increible (no not a misspelling). Very dark and dense. I lurrrvvve it very much.
Warning: They use a bit more than average amount of of salt. I like salt. Actually I love salt. It was not to much for me. But I did drink lots of my room-temp water.
Also...not the cheapest vegan food. But totally worth it.
I came here for a brunch date with my gf, as we've heard a lot of good things about it.
I ordered the L.A. Benedict with a cold orange juice. The tofu was prepared perfectly and the hollandaise sauce wasn't too mustardy, thick or thin; it was just right. Instead of english muffins they serve it on a slice of toasted french bread, which, not suprisingly, was also toasted just right. I could cut it all the way through with a butter knife without having to strain my hands or wrists trying to saw it up into edible sized pieces. The tempeh bacon could use some tweaking. It was a little too salty. It could've used a little less salt and maybe some smokey or hickory flavor. Texture and consistency was just the way I like real bacon--crispy!
The lady had the Ava B 'n' Cheez Scramble. I had a couple bites at first, before I tried a bite from my own plate. It was about what I'd expect from a highly rated vegan place. It too, was prepared flawlessly. Although the sauce they poured on top of the scramble confused us. We weren't sure if it was supposed to be a cheese substitute or some kind of gravy. I tried to finish what she couldn't, but the sauce weirded me out too much, lol.
The only real issue I have with this place would be the seating. They've got some tables in the center of the dining area, but along perimeter is bench seating with tables and individual chairs on the opposing sides, which is fine. The problem being there are too many tables. They're too close to one another so you get no sense of privacy while you dine. Trying to get out from the bench side without bumping the table next to you could be a pain in the ass. I had to turn sideways to get out and I've got a 33 inch waist...
The service was great. After sharing my experience with friends, they laughed at the fact that RFD may have taken a cue from the VeggieGrill. I was told the staff hasn't always been as friendly and attentive as they were for my woman and me. Or maybe we just got lucky?
Prices were a bit high for what you get, so we'll probably have to save this place for the days we're in the mood for a great brunch, but too lazy to drive to Madeline's Bistro.
So one of our friend is a Vegan and she took us here because we wanted to give it a try. The food was alright and over price I wouldn't come back to this place to eat. I had the Not-chos and it was pretty good. My friend ordered a burger and it looked like uncooked meat but it was really bean paste oh man it was hard to shallow. I also tired the Alfredo pasta and it was interesting.. We order 6 pates and the bill came to $130.. Way to expensive..
Wow!! I can finally eat some AMAZING nachos without feeling guilty!!! First of all, it's vegan. Second, it tastes BETTER than the real thing. Third, it's healthy!!!
Their maki rolls were ehh, but the special (thai dish) was A-OK. I definitely agree that their specials are hit-or-miss. I'd say stick with American/Mexican food items. My friend ordered the soba noodles dish and it was pretty good, but I think the sandwiches and pizzas on the other tables looked better. (yeah yeah, grass is greener on the other side!!)
I have to check this place out again because I hear that they can make vegan carne asada fries.
For now, I would like to give 3.5 stars... Nachos (Not-chos) were PERFECT though. Cashew-based cheese FOR THE WIN!!!
No one could be a more loyal patron of this creation of Ann Gentry. BUT THERE IS A GOOD, BAD AND VERY UGLY COMPONENT.
The food is creative and amazing, that is the good. The bad is the inconsistency of La Cienega staff to the Santa Monica staff. In Santa Monica you have great servers wonderful hostess such as Karen and Hally. In La Cienega you've got host and hostess practicing crowd control and crisis stabilization.
NOW FOR THE UGLY. IN A FOOD ESTABLISHMENT WHERE PEOPLE WHO WOULD PRESUME BEING VEGANS AND VEGETARIANS HAVE A MODEST INTEREST IN CONSCIOUSNESS THE NOISE LEVEL IS AT THE THRESHOLD OF PAIN.
The human ear begins to experience damage at 110 decibels and I believe if you brought a SPL(Sound Pressure Level Meter) into La Cienega it would be beyond 120 decibels.
The servers can't hear you order so they stick their heads into your face just to get an order,
The prices for an average lunch or dinner out is about $25.00.
So if you want great food and eventual deafness go to La Cienega. If you just want great food go to Santa Monica.
The M Cafe and other competitors may force RFD to make their patrons comfortable not deaf?
Howard W.
I've never left here disappointed. Spendy but (like Angelica in NY) worth it.
The pseudo-meatloaf in the "TV Dinner" is marvelous.
The best vegan food I've had yet. I order the club usually. Their deserts are fabulous. A bit pricey but again worth it. Their produce is incredibly fresh. This place always comes highly reccommended

The best vegetarian food in LA.
The Lentil Wanut Pate is a must-order. For those of you who like comfort foods (me) the "TV Dinner" is so good. This place sets the standard for vegetarian food.
Vegan and organic seems to be all the rage down south these days, though those LA people don't seem to have heard of recycling, or the downsides of styrofoam.
Anyway, this is a hella great place to have a relaxing and healthy brunch, with good prospects for celebrity sightings. We spotted THE HOFF.
The nachos were incredible. I couldn't believe they were vegan. I could probably be vegan if I had food like that every day.
I wasn't as crazy about my entree, an artichoke ravioli. It was unexpectedly bitter from an excess of kale, and didn't have the right herbs or whatnot to offset it. Others didn't seem as floored by their entrees as by the nachos either.
I drank kombucha with my meal to romanticize the experience. I must confess I hadn't heard of kombucha before.
In New York, I'd plunk down $15 for a standard diner brunch. That is to say, not some fancy cafe with a fluctuating menu full of seasonal locally-sourced ingredients. No, we're talking pancakes from a boxed mix, chewy bacon, stray eggshells in the omelette, spanikopita-perpetually-on-the-menu kind of diners. Every NY neighborhood's got a least one...or twelve. The food is terribly unremarkable, and the "unlimited mimosa (or bloody mary)" is made with well liquor. Yet, I've forked out the cash on many a morning, hungover from the previous night's debauchery.
Know what I love about Real Food Daily? For that same $15, I can get a (sizable) plate full of scrambled tofu with vegetables, freshly-made hash browns, tempeh bacon, and homemade pancakes! And it tastes gorgeous! And is good for me too! (A bonus when trying to lessen the previous night's damages.)
I love this place for brunch. The Eggs Benedict are delicious (as is The Weekender and the Ava B and Cheez Scramble) . I also loved their Yerba Matte Latte made with soy milk. I sweetened mine with agave. Perfection!
Can't wait to go back for dinner sometime. This beats limp huevos rancheros and a Popov Bloody Mary any day.
RFD is by far one of my favorite vegan restaurants in America! However, their prices are prohibitive. They have been exploiting their loyal customers and implementing price increases on a very regular basis. In fact, the price for a slice of cake has increased TWICE in the last 12 months. Yes folks, they now charge almost $8.00 for a slice of their absolutely delicious chocolate cake!
My favorite entrees include the tacos, the meatloaf, the nachos and I usually like to try to special of the week. Did I mention that the special usually runs about $17.00?? Also, they charge a ridiculous amount for a side order of cheese. You know, the tacos don't come with cheese so I order a side order and they charge about $5.00 for it.
The food is very consistent (only a few bad experiences in my 100+ visits) and the service is usually good. However they expect you to tip at the take-out counter and give you a dirty look if you don't. I wish there was another clean, organic vegan restaurant in West Hollywood to rival RFD so that they will get their prices in check.
To start I'm a meat eater. I love meat! I can't eat a meal without some type of meat in it..until I found this place. My wife doesn't eat meat and some of the people that she knows had been telling us to try this place out for awhile. We didn't because I wasn't too sure about it. Let me tell you how wrong I was. Very! I don't even know how they can make the mashed potatoes and gravy so delicious. Seriously gravy without any meat products, I thought eh. But it blew me away. Better than most regular gravy's I've tasted. The tacos(tac-o' the town) are really delicious as well. Add the taco mix it makes it better. The burrito is very good also. But I don't like the tempeh bacon with it. Just makes it taste funny. Much better without. They have really good bread and suprisingly they have a pretty good wine list. Even if you are a meat eater I would recommend this place.
A wonderful vegan restaurant in W. Hollywood. I find the atmosphere pleasant- a little bit fancy and a little bit funky. More mellow than I expect for the area.
A friend took me here a couple months ago, and I was blown away by my vegan club sandwich with mashed potatoes. My meat-eating grandparents must have liked it, too, because when I looked for my leftovers the next day, all that was left in the box was a single, solitary tomato. Darn- there goes half a $15 club sandwich.
My second experience was just as tasty. I ordered the nacho appetizer as my entree- Tortilla chips, spicy melted cashew cheddar cheese, black beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, tofu sour cream, w/ taco mix. It was great. And huge.
Boyfriend ordered fettuccine alfredo, I think, and he loved it, too.
We were much too full to order desert, even though I wanted to.
Speechless. The food was bland. Too many vegetables. Yuck.
I love this place and if I lived in the neighborhood and could eat here every day, I would, and would probably eat meat a whole lot less. This place is f'ing brilliant. These people are witch doctors and miracle workers of vegetarian cuisine. A personal fav is their version of the club sandwich and I recently had their 'TV Dinner' entree which is RFD's meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy. Exquisite. Somehow I ate the entire thing, which was huge, and didn't feel like I was in a coma afterward, but rather, felt energized.
This place is the only way I could really do 'vegan' for any length of time, but I'll tell you what.. My love for all of this aside, and I eat vegetarian quite often, but there will never, ever be a 'real' replacement for a really good greasy cheeseburger, top drawer steak, chili dog or carnitas plate. Maybe that is what I like about RFD though, is that they artfully prepare a vast array of impeccably seasoned, tasty dishes with quality ingredients to where you forget that meat even exists because you are not being served some kind of 'substitute' but instead an excellent and healthy meal.
On a previous visit I had been to the Santa Monica Branch of RFD-this was a waaaay different experience I think primarily because it is in the heart of We-Ho. After a 15 minute attempt to not use valet we submitted and used valet (I'm from NYC so the whole valet thing is quite strange to me-it was a relative bargain at $4.50-WHERE do they take your car when you give it to them?)
I have eaten at places similar to this and am totally into this kind of cuisine. Had a glass of some Chilean syrah-yum.
Our meal came out lightening fast which was not a problem just a surprise.
Shared Corn Bread w/ tahini miso and carrot spread (our server helpfully was like-get both!) yay!
My friend had the BBQ Tofu Farm chop salad.
I had the monthly special called-Satisfy My soul-it was red beans, rice, these empanada things with pan seared plantains and some salsa-my plate was clean. I stole a few bites of the farm chop salad and it was good.
Dessert-just one "hostess" cupcake to share and a peter Bogdanovich sigthing-what's not to love?
The first time i came upon RFD was by accident, taking a wrong turn down La Cienga when the bf and i were already doing the "i'm hungry, let's find somewhere that looks good".
I'll be the first to admit, or rather reinforce, that good food costs good money. Not an arm and a leg mind you, but good vegan food is going to cost you more than heading to your local taqueria and picking up meat/grease laden, well... you get the picture. If you're willing to spend $15 on a great healthy meal, than you're set.
The first time there was amazing. I got the nachos (without the taco mix) with the jalapeno cashew cheese. I was in heaven, vegan heaven. The bf got the roasted veggies wrap (he's a total omnivore btw, with a very open mind) and he couldn't stop raving. On the way out we grabbed two gingersnap cookies, my favorite kind of cookies, and mmmm'd and oohhhhh'd all the way home.
I received a $10 off flyer in the mail for my birthday, and of all the places i chose to go on such a day, i invited 6 friends to go to RFD. These friends are all meat-eaters who have supported me for a long time in my food choices, and were excited to try out something new. They were skeptical about portion sizes (men want manly amounts of food right?) but were pleasantly surprised when the food came.
Our menu included:
South Pacific Special
El Bandito Rojo
Supreme Burrito
Fettuccine Alfredo
Burger with the Works
Nachos w Jalapeno Cheese
Sour Cream Tofu Strawberry Cheesecake
Everyone was full, everyone was pleased, and everyone asked for a bite of all the dishes! Writing this review i'm hungry for it again already. As for the ice-less water, it lets you enjoy your food more and aids the body in absorption. Iced water numbs your tongue, cools your sinuses, and shocks your body temperature. Your body has to heat the water up to an appropriate temperature before beginning to absorb it, wasting needless energy. Pretentious? Maybe. But i say that their water, ice or no, is reverse osmosis filtered and tasted GREAT!
Tips for loving RFD:
-keep an open mind
-don't expect vegetarian meats to taste EXACTLY like their counterparts
-park on La Cienega and walk (residential parking is strict and limited)
-be patient, making fresh food isn't instantaneous
-ask the waiter if you have ANY questions, they'll give you very helpful suggestions
-laugh and enjoy
I can't believe that I lived in LA for almost a year before I went to Real Food Daily. This place is amazing. I seriously fell in love with Real Food Daily after my first visit. It is always a bit exciting and amazing when a vegetarian goes to a restaurant like this for the first time. Everything on the menu is vegan. So no need to worry about what you can and can't order. It sometimes takes a while to figure out what you want. I have been absolutely happy with everything I have had here. I highly recommend the club sandwich. But I always have to order the bread with the carrot cumin spread. I seriously am in love with this spread and think about it all the time. The bbq tofu salad is also fantastic. And I love the Salisbury Seitan and TV dinner. I also really love that they have weekly and monthly specials. So you always have the option of ordering something that you have probably never had before. I usually go to the La Cienega because it is closer. But the Santa Monica Location is great too. And they have a more casual section at the Santa Monica Restaurant where you order at the counter. The service here has always been fantastic and it is usually crowded but I have never had to wait for a table. I usually start planning my next trip to Real Food Daily before my visit is over. I would probably go here every day if I could. I need to keep going back so I can try everything on the menu. This is also a great date place. A great place to take closet vegetarians or somebody considering the vegetarian or vegan lifestyle. And great place to take meat eaters to prove to them that vegan food can be delicious!
I am a simple girl when it comes to food. I could eat the Real Food Meal every day. Land veggies, sea veggies, grains, and a sauce. Perfect. Try the gravy.
My only quibble is that I wish they allowed two substitutions. The menu says "please only one substitution," but don't get tricked into thinking it's a request.
Came here today as a pleasant surprise on a lunch date.
I ordered the Iced Roseberry Tea. I am usually not a tea drinker, but decided to give this a try. It was actually great. I was truly surprised at how flavorful it was.
For my entree I had the Tac-o' The Town...silly name...serious dish. We fucked around with the name a bit before our food came which was pretty fun (that alone is worth 5 stars). I scoffed at the price originally, but honestly for the amount of food and the flavor that it had it was almost worth the price.
My date ordered the Ciao Bella sandwich. Not sure how it tasted but he waaaaaaay tore that up.
The service here was fast and friendly. These people seemed to enjoy their job...which is always great to see.
I will def be back here again but I will try to come for the brunch next time!
Real Food Daily serves one of the only strictly vegan menus in the entire city, and is the best at it by far. None of their dishes contain meat or dairy, which is surprisingly rare in L.A. But that doesn't mean you'll be choking down tasteless hippie chow - quite the opposite. What you'll find here is a full-flavored celebration of natural ingredients crafted with care. The menu offers a vegan take on American classics and Eastern dishes alike, using only the freshest organic ingredients possible. With rotating monthly and weekly specials, the menu stays fresh week after week. The ambiance is comfortable and cozy, with the added benefit of a peaceful and friendly staff. If you know a special vegan or vegetarian someone, take them here for a meal they won't soon forget.
Nom nom nom organic vegetarian chop!
I love eating at a restaurant where I can order anything off the menu with out hesitation :-D.
I ordered the stir-it-up over brown rice and with Tempeh. Yum yum! No guilt, animal free, and healthier indeed! I also ordered the fresh juices that consisted of apples, carrots, cucumbers, and celery. Healthy juice blend mix was extraordinary body cleansing. Just what I needed after eating junk food at Magic Mountain.
I'm a friggin' fan for RFD! If I'm ever in LA again, I know where to go to cleanse my vegan soul =-).
BTW. I did splurge and ordered both chocolate chip cookie and a oatmeal current cookie for the road... DELICIOUS!!!
Sundried tomato hummus was good. I wasn't impressed with the spinach feti. Can't go wrong with a kambucha wonder.
I went to Real Food Daily on a Friday night with a friend. When we got there there were a lot of people waiting so I thought we would have a pretty horrendous wait.. But luckily since it was just the 2 of us, we got seated right away. YAY!
We got seated in a corner and it was pretty tight, but I got used to it right away and it didn't bother us that much. But we were sitting next to this old couple and we had to listen to them complain about everything that our waitress was doing "wrong".... and man... old ladies can be a B*tch!!! The service I would say was a little slower than average. We ordered a bottle of organic Pircus Negras (white) but it came after our meal came out lol...
Anyway. so let me get to the food part. I ordered the Taco with seitan chicken http://static.px.yelp.... and OMG it was SOOOOO good! I loved it! It was the best Taco I have ever eaten in my life and I MEAN IT! It was perfect, from the sauce, the soy cheese, the soy sour cream, fresh avocado, seitan chicken with the perfect texture to the rice and beans on the side. Everything melted soooo well in my mouth! I couldn't believe that it was vegan food. The wine was pretty good too!
The only thing that really bothered me besides the service being a little slower than usual was the parking situation. ITS $4.50!!! Oh well I guess it's restaurant row price... But $4.50 for a $20 meal is not fun!
If you have 3 or more people, you should definitely make a reservation. We got to the restaurant around 9pm, and the place was very busy!
I would give this place 5 stars if they worked on their service a little bit. But hey I would definitely come back for some more Tacos!
This review will officially mark my transition from letting any vegan joint slide to vegan food snob.
I have heard this place compared to NorCal's Herbivore. Let me tell you- Herbivore is much much better.
I ordered the Reuben sandwich and it was basically tons of sour kraut, undercooked tempeh, and soggy bread. I ate it. It was ok.
For dessert I ordered the "Hostess" style cupcake. Oh dear Jebus... Awful. It seriously tasted like pennies. Pennies. My master chef girlfriend thinks it due to using prunes as a sweetener. Stay well away from the chocolate cupcake!
I will say that the nachos were very good. Messy but delicious. Shaney is having his NAchos!
And, uh... what is up with the luke warm water?! Give me ice you hippies!
RFD has one raw food dish---the Living Wrap ($10). This wrap blows Leaf's wraps out of the water. It's made with a red pepper sunflower spread, guacamole and veggies, and it's all wrapped in collard greens. Sure, its guts spurt everywhere when you bite into it, but for just $1.50 more than Leaf's wrap, I'd say this bad boy is worth it. I also tried the enchiladas, which are delicious, but slightly expensive at $14.
The service was exceptional. Our meal literally came out 3 minutes after we ordered it, and our waiter was incredibly attentive and polite. We dined outside, which was nice with the heat lamps, and were in and out in 30 minutes. Fast food! And did I mention that this was a Friday night? Bonus points: It's right next to Largo. The perfect spot for dinner and a show.
