had an awesome wrap here- one of the specials- wish I could remember the name.. it had falafel & hummus & cauliflower & a bunch of other delish ingredients.

we stuffed the wraps into our pockets & snuck them into the movie theater right next door.

yummy dinner for under $20, definitely can't complain!

tons of vegan options, I will be back.

I was really excited to come here!  Organic vegetables, brown rice, whole wheat tortillas, quality chicken and grass-fed beef = my kind of place.  What could go wrong? Sigh.

Ordered the Grilled Chicken Burrito and Grilled Beef Burrito, after a whole lot of effort.  Either the girl behind the counter was really shy or didn't understand what I was saying but after trying to ask her questions for a couple minutes, someone else finally came up and asked what i wanted.  I try to avoid sour cream and cheese, so I asked for some veggies or even lettuce, but she said she couldn't do it.  To avoid taking all the calories out of my burritos, I decided to leave them on.  When I asked for a little extra pico de gallo (tomatoes, onion, chilis salsa) on the burrito, she added about half a table spoon.

Despite the skimpiness on the salsas, the burrito was still large, filling, and made with quality ingredients.  The meats themselves were tasty and seasoned well, and the Beef was grilled fresh upon ordering.  But because the large quantities of flavorless rice and beans - the burrito was bland on its own.  I salsa'd and squeezed lemon on every bite.

    Ingredients - 5 stars
    Food - 3.5 stars
    Service - 2.5 stars
price - $10 for a large burrito (not at all cheap)

I live a block away so I'll be coming back to try one of the falafal wraps/burritos everyone raves about and that I can swing for a more reasonable $8.

This was the second time that we visited Razan's and unfortunately this experience wasn't as positive as the first time. First, the positives. The veggie burrito is delicious and full of fabulous veggies of all colors, tender brown rice, and a tasty and healthy wrap. The prices are fairly reasonable given the location and cashier is friendly.

Here are the constructive parts. The chicken burrito is flavorless. The salsa almost imperceptible in the burritos. Either the cook and the order taker don't know what they are doing or they just don't care. We asked to have no sour cream on my chicken burrito and sure enough I had sour cream. My partner asked to have no cheese on his wrap and guess what? He had cheese on his wrap. He had to disembowel the burrito to remove the cheese just so he could finish eating it.

Most folks probably wouldn't care about that sort of thing, so I can see what Razan would have a pretty high rating. However, I don't know if I'll be back.

The staff was super friendly & took their time w our group as we slowly decided what to order. I had the Egyptian wrap w falafel & really enjoyed it. The portion is big, I could have saved half for lunch the next day but stuffed myself silly. I like that they have a water spickett to drink as much water as your heart desires. I just wish the space was bigger as me & my 3 girlfriends were crammed into a corner.

I'll get this out of the way:  The avocado add-on is a ripoff.  Don't order it.  It's expensive, and although it's organic, it's really not worth it.  And because most menu items are already so flavorful, you won't need it.

The Jerusalem Wrap is one of the best things I've ever tasted.  Ever.*  It's so good.  I can't wait to try the Lebanon Wrap; but I also wish I could just eat the Jerusalem Wrap for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a midnight snack.  With a side order of French fries.  And potato puffs from Gregoire.

The menu is pretty extensive, and although the food's not cheap, the prices really aren't that bad.  With the clear exception of the avocado, the organic ingredients are worth paying for.  They're so fresh.  You will have to wait a little while for your wrap because they're preparing everything to order, but it's a happy, purposeful wait.  And while you're waiting, you can peruse the awesome maps on the wall or check out which non-meat items you can get all your daily recommended nutrients from.  (There's a hand-drawn-looking table between the maps and the cooler.)

It's a cramped little space, and I always order takeout, so I've never been upstairs.  The workers could be friendlier, but they're not actually rude, either, and they are very efficient and work well as a team.  This is the kind of political, hippy-dippy place you would expect Berkeley to be crawling with, but sadly, they're too few and far between.  And they're often crammed into these little out-of-the-way storefronts on streets like Kittredge.

*Although I'm prone to hyperbole, it's usually of the obvious-exaggeration sort.  So, for example, I might tell you, "It's 2.7 million degrees in here," but you'll know that it's not really 2.7 million degrees.

After growing up surrounded by Lebanese and Jordanian women, this is a totally welcome experience. Like the women from my childhood, Razan's definitely won't let you leave hungry.... Wow, this place is great - huge selection of wraps, burritos, and rice plates.  Here's what we tried:

    * Jordanian Wrap: really tasty - has hummus, falafel, tahini sauce, sauteed onions, tomato, cauliflower
    * Chicken Plate: HUGE & great flavor, enough for 1.5-2 meals for a "normal" eater. a good amount of vegetables, black beans, chicken, and rice.

I can't wait to come back and try more delicious items.

I used to come here so much that they'd ring up my usual order as I approached.  Staff is always very friendly and for the most part I found the burritos quite tasty although I'm generally not a burrito fan.

    Problems:
Friend who lives in building overlooking the back of the store warned me then made me watch in terror as they prepared the chicken:
They cut it up in a bucket placed on the parking lot ground outside.

There have been a few occasions where my chicken was not thoroughly cooked.  Sure, I like sashimi, rare steak, and medium burgers--but chicken?  That should NOT be pink...and soft, slimy, and gummy... like I'm eating a fetus.

Since my fetus experience I haven't returned but I gave a couple of stars because I never had a problem when the male with the medium/longish hair was cooking.  And I like to think that the bucket on the ground was chicken being prepared for A dog.

I used to love this place but lately haven't been feeling it.

It's a bit pricey for what it is, but I used to think the great organic ingredients and the great service made it worth it. Lately, my experience there hasn't felt worth it.

I've seen them get orders wrong two of the last three times I've been there. They completely screwed up my friend's burrito. The next time, they gave me black beans instead of the pinto beans I ordered (important for my particular digestive system) in my burrito (I ate it anyway).

Then this last time, I got a salmon burrito, which ended up being kind of a disaster. I asked for pintos and at least they told me they were out of them, so I again settled for black beans. However, it was way overstuffed with rice, and it had that overcooked thing that happens to tortillas (a bit crispy on the outside but too moist inside, and then it just falls apart). So it didn't quite close up completely, and since it was wrapped in paper, the moisture that escaped was deadly to the experience of eating it. It just fell apart and the paper was completely stuck to the tortilla by the time I got halfway through it.

Of course, I'm the one who chose to eat a burrito at a movie theater, but I've never had a problem eating a burrito in the dark (absolutely no innuendo implied), especially if it's wrapped in foil.

With lots of alternatives available, Razan's is not distinguishing itself anymore, which is a shame.

Came to this little hole-in-wall spot before seeing Florence and the Machine at the Greek Theater. I seriously could have closed my eyes and ordered anything of this delicious menu!

I got the Spinach Melt Burrito and its was pack with yummy flavors and goodness.  Although it is small they have some tables out front and a secret upstairs area where you can sit as well. If you are ever craving a burrito but want something healthy, this is your spot! Im so bummed I dont live in Berkeley to enjoy this spot more!

Razan's is great for a healthy, but satisfying, bite. I love their flavor profiles (Middle Eastern -slash- Mexican -slash- funky good stuff) and their legitimate organic cooking philosophy. The place and people just radiate a ton of homeyness and a lot of heart.

Their Egyptian falafel wrap is addictively good, as are many of their plates. An order of fries means you get a bursting basket full of oily, delicious potatoes. When I need a quick, simple meal, I get a baby burrito -- actually a pretty hefty wrap filled with the basic black beans, rice, and cheese (plus all the goodies you can load from the salsa/toppings bar).

Edit to add: I have now had their organic shiitake mushroom wrap three out of the past four days. Heavenly!!

    This place deserves an upgrade.

The prices actually don't seem as bad to me anymore, especially since you get a filling and healthy meal. And by healthy, I mean really healthy - organic, lots of veggies and lean proteins and whole grains, all prepared fresh. And the food is really, really tasty.

They've also re-done their menu and added some smaller/inexpensive items (such as the "baby burrito"), for those days that you might not need a big meal but still want something substantial.

I've started dreading the days when I don't bring lunch, because I feel like going out to eat is always unhealthy, costs too much money and is too much food for what I really need. Razan is most definitely not dreadful, and is a perfect option for those "I didn't bring lunch and don't want to go to Trader Joe's again" days.

My sister was raving about this place so I had to try it. I was only in the area visiting, so I ended up buying to-go. I got a salmon shish kebab wrap. I ate on the plane hours later, so it was already cold. I imagine it would've been even better had I eaten it fresh and piping hot. The place seems kind of pricey, but the wrap was huge! It was delicious, too. Possibly drenched in a little too much sauce though. Although I really enjoyed the wrap, my sister, who got the same thing, said that the other stuff they have is better. Just makes me wish I was still there to try all their other, even better items. The only thing was that they kept me waiting. I ordered to go. They told me 15 minutes. I was the only customer, yet they had barely started making our order when I had arrived. I had a plane to catch, so that was pretty annoying.

OMG. Baby let me love you downnn...There's so many ways to love ya!

I'm starting the Clean program (detox by Dr Alejandro Junger MD; more details at http://www.cleanprogra...) next week, which is a 21 Day Detox Program, and I have a mandatory 5 Day Pre-Cleanse that I need to follow before I start. It basically cleans out the toxins from your body. So far, I'm feeling great. One of the requirements is to eat ORGANIC foods. Thank goodness for Razan in Berkeley!

I'm so happy I found this place. It's only two blocks away from work; that means, I'll be visiting often for lunch. The people who took my order over the phone were really nice. I ordered their Egyption wrap that is a thin wrap containing falafel, greens, hummus, tomatoes, etc. I'm not a vegan and I have a huge appetite, so I ordered it with their organic chicken. I also told them I was on a special diet, so they made sure to use lots of veggies - thanks! The size of the wrap was huge for just $7.00, and It was soooooo yummy. Order a small, unhealthy burrito across the street from Cancun and it'll cost you the same price or more.

I also got the Veggie soup with lentil, which cost about $6.00. I thought the wrap would be small so I order soup too. My mistake. The wrap would've been perfect alone. The soup was really good - full of veggies and great taste. It was almost as delicious as the wrap. Can't wait to try the other orders on their menu after I'm finished with the detox program. For now, I'll stick with the vegan Egyptian wrap plus organic chicken! They also have salsa and other sauces that is a must for sauce lovers. Ah, I can't wait to go back!

I am very impressed by the great degree of flavor in their food and their use of fresh, organic ingredients. Cons are that because they use organic, menu items are on the expensive side, considering that a wrap is $8. However, I come here a lot meaning that I enjoy it.

-Egyptian Wrap: traditional wrap with falafels and hummus. But it has extremely strong flavors and falafels are decently soft on the inside and crispy on the outside
-Veggie Lentil Soup: my favorite. It has extremely tasty and light soup with a lot of vegetables and lentils. And it comes with warm pita bread. I was amazed to be full from it and felt healthy afterward because it was so light as well
-Small salmon wrap: I forgot its exact name but the salmon was grilled perfectly and was very moist.

I spent lots of time in the downtown Berkeley area this summer, and when I had a free 30 min to grab lunch, I would usually come here.
The Veggie burrito with cheese and rice was delish, and I loved the many options of salsas, onions and spicy things you could add to it.
I've also had the Hummus wrap - not my favorite, but I will def return for the burritos - they remind me of Sprouts in my hometown - rich brown rice, black beans, and creamy cheese with your choice of veg and tortilla.

I've always had it to go, but the place is pretty small - Ive seen signs for "more seating upstairs" but never ventured.

    A fun and tasty lunch!

The baby burrito is a bargain, and it tastes amazing. All in all, the best deal for a healthy lunch in downtown Berkeley. Why 2 stars? Today I was told that to have salsa fresca put on my baby burrito, it would coast an extra $2.50. Did I hear that right? I did not want a side, I wanted a some salsa on my burrito. That's probably one heaping spoonful at most. When I said forget it, the staff at the counter looked at me like I had a hole in my head. That's bad form. I'm not so sure I will be returning.

Passing by Razon Organic Kitchen, I reckoned the lil place would be flavorless, too-expensive-for-what-it-is, and describable by cool adjectives like "shit-hippy" (what kind of vegan am I?)...

But I was totally wrong. I got the Egyptian Wrap ($7), which is basically  falafel encased in fantastically flakey, thin bread, drenched in tahini sauce AND hummus, with HELLA greens (in a good way). I was satisfied and I even felt healthy. There are deliciously free olives in the salsa bar. And the walls are garnished with pro-Palestinian propaganda and they even have olive oil "made in occupied Palestine". fun!

Its sort of pricey for lunch, but everything is 100% organic (meaning the food grows in the same way it has for millions of years until recently).

I'll be back for the tofu shawarma.

Razan's serves mostly Middle Eastern wraps/plates and burritos. (Though, I haven't had the burritos because I'll never order burritos at a place with 'wraps'on the menu). The food is all organic, hot, fresh and rather yummy if you have a hankering for a healthy meal. Good vegan options include the Egyptian Wrap (falafel, hummus, etc: $5.95), Tofu plate (rice, tofu, beans. salsa and veggies: $9.95), Mediterranean Plate (Lentils, hummus, rice, tabuli, etc: $8.95).  This is a perfect place to grab a bite before/after a movie.

(+) organic, quick and friendly service, freshly made healthy food
(-) the drink selection is limited, largely non-caffeinated and expensive (i.e. Santa Cruz organic sodas, apple juice, etc.) The restaurant is very small and somewhat pricey (counter service not table service), but organic with lots of vegan stuff, and a small business so I got to support it.

First impressions of the place by looking at the menu is that it's a bit pricey, but hey... organic ingredients come at an organic price. It's all worth it though because the burritos/wraps are tasty. The rice was perfectly spiced and the chicken breast was pulled nice and thin. The best part was the sour cream. First off, it was evenly distributed throughout my burrito! That is key, because who wants to go halfway through a burrito before discovering the goodness that is sour cream. Second, the sour cream was light, fluffy and held up well with the ingredients. This is probably because they use Horizon organic sour cream. Cheap sour cream seperates, gets drippy and has a mayonaisse- like feel.

They also offer choices of white or wheat tortilla and a variety of Santa Cruz juices and sparkling water. The owners and kitchen staff are also very friendly and are willing to talk food. If parking wasn't such a hassle, I would give 5 stars. But parking and price are the only negative things I can say about this place. Other than that, Razan's offers a high-end, quality burrito!

Some of the food was quite delicious, once it was cooked enough.  My salmon wasn't completely cooked the first time so it had to go back.  The sauteed veggies and guacamole were great.  The staff was very accomodating.

The place is really small and I don't know how all of those people can prepare food in that tiny space without knocking each other over.  But somehow they seem to manage.

Red snapper is on the menu and it is also on a list of fish to avoid due to environmental impact.  One of the people in our party pulled out his good fish/bad fish card out of his wallet.  The salmon at Razan Organic Kitchen is wild sockeye salmon.

My five-star system for accomodating people with special diets:

Responsiveness to questions/needs: ***** (five stars, they answered all of my questions and were very responsive)
Dairy-free: ***** (five stars, many are dairy free)
Gluten-free: *** (three stars, not much without wraps but you can create your own without a wrap)
Vegetarian: ***** (five stars, lots of veggie options)
Vegan: **** (four stars, some good vegan options)

Delicious, well priced, accepts plastic, convenient location and hours.... all you you need in a near campus restaurant!!

To scratch below this already shiny surface, it's all organic!
We got the mediterranean chicken wrap (not sure a/b the name.. but its something like that) which had veggies (tasty fresh zucchini, bell peppers, etc.... not the usual crappy veggies), mediterranean rice, onions,  chicken, and tahini.
Also tried the super combo burrito w/guac- chicken, beef, rice, cheese, maybe onions.... both were in a whole wheat tortilla which makes it taste so much better.
Both were really good and satisfying, but their sauces give it an extra kick, especialy the verde sauce and the chili one that's typically put in falafel wraps.

I go for burritos and burritos alone. Can't mess up the super combo burrito. The organic ingredients make it a burrito that is very different from others.

I've been going here for over 6 years now and I love it each time. The staff are very nice and can carry a decent conversation as well. I'm lucky to always be here when it's not busy. No lines and i always leave with a smile on my face.

It is a bit pricey but it's expected since everything is organic. But since I've yelped about this place, i do want to try the other dishes.

So what started out as a total bummer...paying a Berkeley parking ticket, turned out to be a fantastic discovery. Where else can you get a burrito with brown rice? I had the veggie melt burrito and liked it so much that I ended up taking a friend there 2 days later.  Yummy goodness.
You may feel like you've stepped into John Malkovich's head when you go upstairs to sit & eat, but you have a birds eye view of the kitchen and can get ideas on what to order on your next visit. I think it will definitely be something with salmon.

Easy, pleasant place for a casual meal.  Organic, friendly service, sweet small place.  A bit expensive, but that's organics.

    Tasty!

I went today, on a whim. I've lived here for nine months and never checked the place out. I'm not a vegan, not even a vegetarian, and I get nervous about "healthy" eateries since they often just don't compete, flavor-wise, with other places.

I just decided to go native, ordered a mushroom melt, stayed vegetarian for the day. It was surprisingly hearty, full of rice and beans and just enough cheese that it was flavorful but still felt healthy. Was a little bummed that they only had full-sugar organic sodas, but hey, I knew what I had signed up for.

My only complaints: The space is too small, and the prices too large. I mean, I get it, organic produce costs more, it makes sense... but it's still hard for me to justify spending that much more for lunch than I would spend elsewhere, on a post-doc's stipend... at least this year.

Grabbing a bite before a movie on a Sunday afternoon, my daughter knows all the funky cheap and cheerful eats around town. We decided to eat on the healthier side, so she took me here. It was overcast and damp and a big bowl of soup sounded perfect. The menu also had lots of wraps/burrito type choices and salads that made it hard to make a decision. But I went with a bowl of split pea soup and kid had the lentil/vegetable soup and we shared an order of hummus with pita/chips. My soup was so delicious (though half way through deliciously slurping it down did I realize it probably wasn't meat free) OOPS..... Oh well too late, and for the most part I only eat chicken or fish. And this probably had pork in it, ugh...but I guess it won't kill me (well I'm still here to write this review) and it was pretty damn good...shoot. I guess I should have asked I usually do, but I got confused with "organic" and must have thought "vegetarian". Epic fail on my part, oh well ( don't tell anyone but it was really thick and tasty....shhhhhh).
And our big huge bowl of hummus was enough to share will all the patrons in the restaurant! So along with our big bowls of soup, I'd say we had a super hardy meal for lunch and a good bang for our buck.
I'd eat here again, though I might be more investigative of what meat might be lurking in the soups if I order them again.
