Another glowing review for Michelle and her shop. She was very understanding of my small budget and offered me some great suggestions to choose from. She totally understood when I opted to buy off-the-rack frames and have her cut and install the expertly selected matting.
All my pieces ended up looking fantastic and I will certainly go back again - big or small budget! -

HANDS DOWN, BEST FRAMING SHOP IN SAN DIEGO. HERE IS WHY:
Price: I had originally gone to Art of Framing on Adams Ave and was quoted $80 just to have a common stock matting placed in a frame I already owned, and to have a paper backing put on it. When I went to Ray Street Custom Framing Michelle (the owner) quoted me $35/40. That's more like it!
Customer service: Michelle is awesome!! She is very personable, friendly, genuinely cares about her customers and what she does, and she is an artist herself. She has also employed someone named Susan who is also AWESOME and a talented artist. That these women are artists matters to me because they have more of an "artistic eye" when it comes to framing pieces that typical frame shop personal wouldn't.
When I picked up my piece it looked awesome. It even looked better than I imagined it would. The frame I had brought in was one I bought at a junk shop, and they glass was a bit dirty (I hadn't noticed). Susan cleaned it for me, which was great and I really appreciated it.
I will never go to another frame shop again; Michelle's shop is where I will go from now on. In fact, if Christ himself wanted the Shroud of Tourin framed, he would seek out Michelle for sure. Trust me ;)
Thanks Ray Street Custom Framing!!! -

This morning I walked in the door of Ray Street Custom Framing with a weird, tiny drawing in need of a frame. Michelle greeted me like a friend, had an inspired vision for my project immediately and stayed well within my budget as well. Honestly, I wish more businesses were this great at what they do!
Michelle clearly has an awesome relationship with local artists & collectors alike & really puts her heart into her work & into building a relationship with her clients. I would recommend this frame shop in a heartbeat. -

A well deserved 5 stars! Michelle framed a gift for my husband - a 2 page newspaper article - and it turned out SO nice!
I have had some not so stellar experiences at mainstream framers in Mission Valley, so when I decided to have my husband's article framed, I looked on Yelp for some guidance, which led me to Michelle. I felt so welcome from the moment I walked in, and was able to stay well within my budget without sacrificing quality.
I have already referred friends to Michelle. Looking forward to working with her again! -

Love Michelle and her shop. She is so helpful and kind, and PATIENT! :) Great selection of frames, mats and artwork. We have entrusted her to frame important documents and bought incredible art from her. Highly satisfied.

I took my degree to Ray Street Custom Framing to be re-framed, and Michelle did a fantastic job with it! I will take all my future framing projects here!
Edit: I took another degree to Michelle to be framed, and it's BLINGTASTIC! It's so worth the extra money to get something you care about framed by someone who is as skilled and creative as Michelle. You can come over anytime and check out my superfantastic Master's degree, if you need proof! -

If you want your art framed well, have it framed by an artist. And that is exactly what Michelle is. Outstanding attention to detail.
I had 2 beloved pieces framed here and I seriously could not be happier with the work she did.
It was a huge deal to go from tacking a poster into an IKEA frame (zero shame there, I still do it with some of my posters) to having these 2 pieces professionally framed. But it was worth every penny. Love it. Love her. So happy I can say I have my very own frame shop. -

Edit: It is perfectly all right for friends to review a friends' place of business and craft work. I doubt there is a review on Yelp that does not contain a friend's rating of a friend's business. With that in mind, if you feel the need to judge Michelle's work because her friends (who have all witnessed or bought her craft work) are biased, then do what you must. But if you are a potential customer who likes to review an artist's work before you purchase, you are on the right track with Michelle. I own a piece of her artwork, custom-framed by Michelle. It is lovely and a great addition to my house. I say that because she is not just my friend, but talented and dedicated to great art and great product. -Signed, Liane M Pollard, friend and customer of Ray Street Custom Framing. (8 Nov 08)
Can you put a price on thoughtful, artistic and quality products? If you are pinching pennies, tell the owner/artist/operator Michelle and she will work with you as best she can, within reason. Even the most basic framing job will be worth your investment. If you have money to spare, Michelle will do your piece justice - no matter what. She definitely thinks outside the box as a natural habit. Actually, to Michelle there is no box. The benefit to you? A piece of art or a memento that will be complimented - but not overshadowed - by her careful handiwork. -

This frame shop helped me get in a new frame of mind.
They do great work, too! Very friendly and helpful! -

This is a GREAT custom framing shop that can do everything you would need them too. They have a great selection. And the owner is sooooo nice and helpful! I highly recommend Ray Street Custom Framing!
I will from now on go there when I need anything!!!! You should too!
Edit: I recently went back to Ray Street Custom Framing with another piece I wanted to frame for a gift. Unfortunately my budget was very tight. Michelle was really helpful in helping me find something I would be happy with without breaking my pocket book. Her work and patience are well worth every penny. Really ..... just go there. -
Review from Dane S.

Michelle is absolutely fantastic! A+ service. I was getting a 1930s college pennant framed with some old postcards. It was a very difficult and unique piece. It exceeded my expectations, which is hard to do (and why I am writing a review).
If you want an extremely high-quality, professional product, visit Michelle. She isn't just a framer, she's an artist who genuinely cares about her work.
I WILL go back.
Strengths:
1) Patience / Trust. Michelle did a full consultation with me TWICE! The first time we discussed my goals for the piece. The second time, she presented some FANTASTIC ideas (that I never would have thought of, frankly) and even listened patiently to the opinions of my girlfriend. She earned my TRUST, which is a major compliment.
2) Creativity / Intelligence. Michelle took time to RESEARCH my piece. She wanted to make sure she had a better understanding of my perspective. When I returned for her ideas, she had several proposals and full justification for all of them. On one piece, she recommended a frame and matting style that reflected the architecture of the building in the postcards. I was stunned. She was 100% correct and it gave the piece fantastic depth.
3) Options / Opinions / Communication. Michelle has a wide-range of options and she will actually give you her opinion. She will work with you in your price range. She is also excellent over the phone and over email.
4) High quality. My pieces were wonderful and are definitely "museum quality."
Concerns:
1) Time. From start to finish, the process took about a month to complete. She will definitely work within your time frame. However, be aware that something large and / or complicated WILL take time. That is the price you pay for having an artist.
2) Price. Make sure you are upfront about your price range. The project ended up being a little more than my initial budget, but was 100% worth it in the end.
3) Pickup. My large piece wasn't wrapped when I picked it up. I also brought a car that was too small at first (a small convertible). Make sure you communicate with Michelle how the piece will be picked up and how to transport it.
Just to reiterate, she was absolutely wonderful. I WILL go back. -

Michelle will be sure to please you with whatever you need help framing! I have gone to her numerous times over the years and she always has the perfect frame to match whatever I bring her. She is very easy to work with and the quality of her work speaks volumes. I'll continue to use her again and again!

Michelle is the best, I had a frame done and her attention to looking at the art and her recommendations to compliment it were superb.
