One of the best things about going to high school in the city was that during our lunch periods we could go out to eat.
Like I mentioned earlier, I'm a pizza brat. This here is one damn good pizza shop. I've never been disappointed when eating here...I highly recommend either the white pizza(cottage cheese and garlic) or the tomato and garlic pizza (self explanatory)...If you're feeling more adventurous, go for the chicken parm pizza or the beef pizza (Ok it sounds a little gross here, but the name of the stupid thing is escaping me right now!)
The place is really tiny...REALLY tiny...but genuinely New York. The TV above the drink fridge is usually on NY1 (local news channel), and you can sit at the tables and count the number of cabs that fly down Lexington Ave. The tables are really close together and the bathroom's clean...but right out there, so it's a little embarassing to walk out of it into...well, the restaurant.
I don't recommend going around lunch hours. You're bound to encounter TONS of NYC kids (ranging from grade school to seniors in high school). What I hated the most was not being able to enjoy lunch with my friends because of the giggling, screaming group of kids at the table next to us. But I've moved on...really.
It's not THAT expensive, but it's not uber-cheap either...I'd say budget yourself wisely when you order and if you're still hungry, go get that second slice!
So I came in here looking to eat a chicken roll. What I got instead was a bunch of cheese in a greasy piece of dough. There was so much cheese and so much unnecessary grease. For $6.75, I just got ripped off. I should've just ate at Wrap n Run.
Average pizza - nothing special. I bought one slice and a drink and it came out to something like $7 or $8... I asked him why it was so expensive and he said "because it's the best premium ingredients". I was not sold on this - it was an average slice of tomato and mozzarella and it didn't seem like it was anything special.
Ay good Pizza. It's thin crust but it's a little thicker than other thin crusts. Makes it heartier. Tried the regular cheese and also a slice of gourmet. Both meet high standard. Born in Brooklyn, I know what good pizza is. I think the owner Ray Bono is behind the counter. He's definitely got a mouth on him, but overall good guy. Understandable if he has to deal with a pissload of high schoolers every day.
If NY "thin crust" pizza is what you're looking for, Ray Bono is a good place. I'm not sure if it's off the chain of Ray's Pizzas...I didn't go to a Ray's Pizza during my stay, so I can't really compare. It was pretty good. Nothing special, just your NY pizza.
