I have been here four times and have never been disappointed. This last time we had the artichoke salad which is ok and the yellowtail tartare which was delicious. I regret not getting the pasta which is always good.
For dinner we first split the halibut and then the beef. Both were cooked well and had good flavor. Nothing compares however to a dish I had 6 months ago - fluke in some buttery sauce that was one of the tastiest fish dishes I have had thus far. I keep hoping it will reappear on the menu in some form or another...and I don't mind returning every once in awhile to see if it has.
All in all great food for a reasonable price.
I went to Range with three girlfriends after a day of shopping and we had a blast. The cocktails were divine and the food was incredible. We had a seat near the kitchen my girlfriend loved checking out the cute chefs. I want to go back soon with my fiance.
Good cocktails and service. Nice for dinner after work, just be sure to make reservations.
We tried the artichoke, watercress and feta salad with vinaigrette which was good but not great. The spring vegetable cassoulet, however, was delectable and I know that I'll definitely be back for more. Though I didn't try it myself, I was told that the roasted chicken was quite good as well. Unfortunately, the braised grass-fed beef was overcooked.
The bittersweet chocolate and Armagnac souffle was creamy and rich, reminding me more of a molten chocolate cake than a souffle.
Appetizer:
Baby artichoke salad with watercress, feta, roasted almonds, and a lemon-mint vinaigrette --Oh god, that was amazing. I almost didn't want to eat anything else, to preserve the taste in my mouth.
Entrees:
Dayboat Scallops with pancetta and leek puree--- entirely forgettable. This dish did not do it for me at ALL. Thankfully, my partner let me steal his food.
Lamb with fava bean puree and barley--- SO good. Tender, and cooked just right. And the barley was, as a textural contrast, delightful.
Dessert:
Rhubarb Tarte Tatin with Candied Ginger Ice cream -- could have been less sweet, and the puff pastry could have been well... puffier, and less soggy. The candied ginger ice cream was delicious though.
Bittersweet Chocolate Souffle with Armagnac -- solid, but didn't wow me. Then again, I'm not the sort of gal who goes ga-ga and loses her panties just because some chocolate happens to fall into her mouth.
A yummy dessert wine, which I forget the name of at the moment.
The check for two people came out to about 91, without tip.
Overall, pretty good food. The service was prompt and well-timed, but a little cold. I was too engrossed in making lovey dovey eyes at the boy to care though.
One Michelin Star doesn't mean a thing when you have a reservation at 7:45 but you don't get seated until 8:05 and the hostess doesn't seem like she cares one way or another.
One Michelin Star doesn't mean a thing when there are three women at the front door who KNOW you're waiting for your table and don't even offer to get you started with a drink from the bar that is full of people eating their dinner.
One Michelin Star doesn't mean a thing when your waiter isn't informed that we just waited 20 minutes to be seated, so when he got us water and came back 10 more minutes later to get our drink order started; it only further thinned our patience.
One Michelin Star doesn't mean a thing when "the kitchen" sends you a "courtesy appetizer" and it comes out with the four other appetizers you ordered.
One Michelin Star doesn't mean a thing when the birthday gal knows someone in the restaurant's management.
One Michelin Star doesn't mean a thing when everyone's mood is ruined in the first 30 minutes, no matter how good the food is or how much aggro subsided after a drink and some appetizers.
563 reviews, most of which are 4 yelp stars, and one Michelin star doesn't mean a thing to me. I'll not be back no matter how good the food was or how good our table service was. We didn't feel welcome to begin with. Nor was I thanked when we left.

Just to be up front, I am not giving Range 5 stars for one simple reason; upon showing up for out 9:30 ressy on a Sat night, my girlfriend and I were poorly greeted, the hostess did not offer to take our coats (it was a cold night) and we were forced to stand in an awkward spot between a packed bar where there was no hope of getting a drink, and a table where we had to dodge a waitress who clearly didn't understand the concept of walking around the customer.
OK, with that out of the way, once seated we had a lovely dinner. The dishes were wonderful, fresh, full of flavor, not over powering and portioned to leave room for dessert. We had dined the night before at another highly acclaimed Mission Italian restaurant and my girlfriend and I both agreed that Range to the Blue Ribbon that weekend.
Also our waitress (again, once seated in the back) was super nice, we chatted with an older couple next to us and a Parisian four-some at the the booth on the other side of us. It was just one of those friendly, cozy evenings- and the wine was good ;)
Highly recommend Range and I look forward to going back a few more times so I can forget about my first impression of the rude hostess.
The chicken liver pate salad was the bomb. I'll be dreaming of this as I lay in bed back in Las Vegas, NV.
I spent an early evening dinner here in April 2008 where my friends and I sat at two tables pushed together at the bar. The waiter was very professional and efficient, as one would expect at an establishment like this.
The bar was happy to create a non-alcoholic drink that was a little out of the ordinary. I loved that.
Surprisingly, the vegetable cassoulet was quite good. It's hard to imagine a cassoulet without the pork fat, but the cassoulet here was hearty and a wonderful embrace from the windy, cold day we were having in San Francisco.
I ordered the lamb which was cooked perfectly but we had a halibut entree that was a little overcooked.
After having tasted all of the dishes- both apps and entrees- the chicken liver pate was the table's favorite.
I've been away from San Francisco for many years and the Mission District is not as I remember it. Range's location used to be a tapas restaurant that I remember being quite good. However, it's nice to know that this new unfamiliar Mission District will keep me coming back for more.

For the price, it definitely isn't worth it. There's at least two dozen spots in the city I'd rather go than here.

Vin de Pamplemousse!! What a fantastic cocktail - square one vodka, viognier, grapefruit juice, vanilla bean & lemon. Actually, I really just like to say the name Pamplemousse. It sounds exactly like it looks(I asked) - "pomple moose." Pamplemousse, Pamplemousse, Pamplemousse!
Those who have been to Delfina in the Mission will find the size and style of this restaurant similar. It's small and intimate and probably not the best for large parties.
The food here is divine. I highly recommend the lamb which was so flavorful and tender. I found myself having flashbacks of its tastiness the next day! Pair it with a Pamplemousse cocktail and you'll be on your way to a great evening.
Pamplemousse!

We didn't find that it lived up to the high expectations we got from all the favorable reviews posted here. It's a pretty space, but the food really didn't deliver.
Very limited menu (especially for vegetarians -- they had one entree, which was a weird soup/casserole dish with a bunch of beans that gave my husband terrible gas).
Also, after advising our server we did not eat beef or pork, one of our dishes came out with bacon sprinkled over the top. She was friendly enough, but that was sloppy service, considering that we had specifically told her our preferences and she opined on which dishes were the best for us.
We had three appetizers - the artichoke and clam apps were pretty good, but the ravioli was really salty and quite heavy on the butter. Wine list was pretty extensive, but a little on the expensive side. Two of the desserts we ordered (the chocolate souffle and the meyer lemon cake) were excellent. The rhubarb "pizza" was just okay.
Lastly, they don't take Am Ex, which was annoying.
My first visit would have been four star worthy but I went back last night without a reservation and sat in the bar room where the tables have hooks under them to hang your purse from.... FIVE STARS!
And the food was terrific. And the Safeway wine guy was drinking at the bar and he's like my favorite ever and I wish I could have talked to him or at least given him one of the hooks under our table so he could hang his canvas/leather saddle bag ("saddle bag" -- is that what it's called? or is "saddle bag" an insult reserved for old ladies with drooping fourth chins? can't remember.. I'll just stick with my original use). Bye!

Went with a good freind on a sat night. We didn't have reservation but got seated in about 15 min. Had a nice glass of wine. The resurant's decor was great liked the artwork on the wall. I would say the food was good but over priced I got the duck and my ferind the steak. our waitress was sort of rude and we didn't like her. I don't think she ever introduced her self. I will not go back unless my freinds really want to go there.
Four magical words in the English language: Meyer Lemon Pudding Cake. If it is on the menu, I command you to order it.
The pedigree of the chef and manager definitely shine through in this small, delicately decorated restaurant. The decor respects that the food is the main priority here.
I love their fish entrees. My halibut was perfectly poached with a delicious lemony, creamy, caper sauce. It was served on a bed of baby artichokes that went perfectly with the light sauce.
As I mentioned before, the pudding cake (two of my favorite things together at last!) is a must order especially if you LOVE lemon desserts like I do. My dining companion had the strawberry ice cream puffs and they were divine as well. I was secretly eying the chocolate souffle the table next to us ordered. Perhaps, I need to do some more research into the dessert menu...
I have dreams of the meyer lemon pudding cake. I don't normally start my reviews from the end, but seriously, the delicate sweet-tart lemon "pudding" (almost souffle-like) crowning the denser cake-bottom with just a drizzle of honey and a dollop of lavender cream is positively ethereal. I will try to re-create this in my kitchen, but I think I've already elevated this dessert to a pedestal in my memory that won't be easily replicated again in real-life. . .
I've been meaning to visit this restaurant for what seems like ages. Not really sure what took me so long, but I've been missing out! They have awesome cocktails ( I had a grapefruit-something that was just amazing), use super fresh and local ingredients in their food, and their execution of the food is near flawless. We had slow-cooked duck breast that literally melted on my tongue. I would've licked the plate, if the server hadn't been so efficient in whisking it away! We also tried the roast chicken - while it was tasty, it wasn't mind-blowing. I'd rather go to Zuni for that. And to start, we had beautiful, pristine raw dayboat scallops with avocado and grapefruit - it was light on the palate and brought a smile to my face.
So yes, five well-deserved stars for being fresh and fabulous. I can't wait to drop in again!

This is a five star restaurant - too bad the service was a litle lacking the evening we went. The food is amazing - the chicken dish is the most amazing rottiserrie chicken I have ever had in my life. Trust me, you'd never think chicken could taste so good! The braised beef was amazing too and from the appetizers, the goat cheese ravioli and super fresh salad, which was simple but so tasty! Cocktails were great, wine great albeit expensive. And for the end, oh my god, the desserts are unforgettable. Down to the truffle that they offer you with the check... One of the best restaurants in San Francisco.
Definitely lived up to the Michelin star status. This place is very nice and modern. I enjoyed the steel tables and cozy booths in the back of the restaurant. Upon arrival you would not expect the restaurant to extend so far back but it's actually quite roomy compared to the exterior.
One thing to keep in mind, the parking is absolutely horrendous on Friday nights so leave a minimum of 30 mins to look for parking close to the restaurant.
What we ate for dinner:
* little gem lettuce with radishes, avocado, bacon and parmesan
* handmade cheese filled ravioli
* scallops
* stuffed chicken
All appetizers and entrees were delicious. The only reason I give 4 stars is because the entree portions were quite small. Every bite was amazing and full of flavor but not quite as filling as one would expect from a $26 dollar entree.
The hostesses and servers were very nice and attentive. My water glass was always filled to the top and I never felt the need to look for our server.
Be sure to request a booth in the back for a cozy dinner with friends or your sweetie.
Great dining experience in the Mission. Range does not disappoint, and is worth a visit if you like American "new" cuisine. Has a look and feel very similar to Delfina (which I also highly recommend). The dim lighting and fun/colorful paintings on the wall created an enjoyable ambiance.
I started with a warm puree of asparagus soup with shrimp. It had a nice flavor/texture. I had no problem licking up the last few spoon fulls with my bread! For my main dish, I ordered the whiskey and brown sugar glazed pork spare ribs with a carrot salad. The meat practically fell off the bone as I ate it... yum.
The cocktail list looked great, but I opted for my usual Gin & Tonic. Both of my friends ordered the Pamplemousse drink, and were raving about it the entire time Our waitress was good to average during our dine, but not extremely helpful or attentive.
I would definitely go back and try other fun items on the menu!
Let me join the chorus-- went here last night for a friend's, um, 29th birthday, and have only praise:
the cocktails are awesome (had some specialty that was like a Manhattan with champers); wine pours by glass sturdy and varied (the $7 Falanghina was lovely); and the starters are delicious.
In particular, the babygem lettuce salad, porkribs and mussel salad were delicious. The only disappointment was the raw scallop dish, plated with slightly dry grapefruit, greens, and mashed avacado--the dish lacked complexity and enough acidity to work.
The duck was the best entree, although the halibut was a close second.
And, it only got better with dessert--don't miss the chocolate armagnac souffle: it is heavenly.
We closed the place down (San Franciscans eat so damn early) and it was only upon leaving that I noticed how noisy this place can be), but that's being picky. Range is lovely and a fine successor to Timo's.

My friend decided to treat me dinner after cat sitting for them for a couple of days. Very nice of her since she picked Range and it's an excellent choice. When i walked in, I instantly saw the little star shape lights shooting out from the bar. They are embedded inside the bar counter which i think is a very neat deco. Definitely enhance the color of the pretty cocktails they make. The dinning area is not big but very comfy.
4 of us ordered 4 different entrees. Among all of them (roasted chicken, daube beef, halibut, and duck breast), the daube beef by far the best. The slightly sweet horseradish sauce goes really well with the tender juicy beef. Dessert is also excellent. I ordered lemon tart. The lemon custard is good but the best part is the crust. So flaky and crunchy.....just talking about it makes me want to have one now.
This restaurant, I will definitely go back. :)

I stopped in at Range during a recent trip to SF, and I enjoyed it. It was a little out of the way, but I thought the space was cute and the atmosphere was lively. They even accomodated me when I had to push my reservation back by a couple of hours.
I had the Gem Lettuce salad for a starter and the Petrale Sole for an entree. The salad was good, I mean you can't really mess up salads right? The fish was actually really tasty and fresh. I don't know if I was starving or what, but there wasn't a bite of food left on my plate when I was finished.
I'm not sure how the rest of their food is, but overall I had a good experience. I don't think this place is going to be a mind blowing experience for anyone, but it's definitely a good spot to go for a solid meal.
So impressed with this place. We were going to go to Cha Cha Cha, but the wait was crazy, so we walked over to Valenica and went to Range, which I'd seen (and read about) before, but had never been to. So glad we ended up here.
We ate at the bar, as the wait for a table was about 30 minutes (this was around 9 p.m. on a Saturday night). Eating at the bar proved to be one of the best parts of the experience. The bartender (didn't get his name, looks a little like Thomas Dolby) was making grrrrreat drinks all night, and we hit it off with some other people who were sitting there, proceeding to compare notes on the entrees and drinks that we were plowing through.
The decor here is sleek and modern, with lots of stainless steel. There's an awesome bluish refrigerator behind the bar which looks very deco. So cool.
Anyway, we started with bottles of Chimay Blue, which we had with the goat cheese and sorrel stuffed pasta appetizer and the braised beef and roasted chicken entrees (which were both great). When the Chimay was gone, I asked the barkeep to make me a cocktail which would go well after it. I ended up with some Whiskey concoction which I would have never have ordered on my own, and while strong, it was very tasty.
The next drink was the Taylor Fladgate Port, which we had with the strawberry ice cream puffs (again, quite tasty).
The very last drink was a New Moon, something which reminded me of Sangria (as it had red wine in it). Refreshing and a good way to end our first experience at this great restaurant.
Go. You'll love the food. Sit at the bar if you feel like having a great cocktail experience. You'll be glad that you did.
3.5 Stars. Rounded up to 4 because our waitress was nice about chilling our wine.
When: Sat, Apr 12, 2008
Time: 8 pm
Occassion: Michelin Star
We had raw california yellowtail and chicken liver mousse for appetizers. The yellowtail was fresh, and chicken liver mousse tasted better than chicken liver, if you know what I mean.
Having brought the 2006 Patz & Hall Pinot Noir, we chose meat dishes for our entrees - duck breast with duck broth and braised grass-fed beef with horseradish sauce. The duck breast was superb, but the same could not be said for the beef. I wish I had ordered the roasted chicken instead. We ended our meal sharing bittersweet chocolate and armagnac souffl for dessert.
The only thing I hate is how busy and loud it gets here. Food is quite good and comforting. They always have nice creative cocktails with fresh fruit that I love. I still fantasize an amazing early girl tomato soup that I had here.

Went to dinner last night with Jackie and beau. I forgot to make reservations and was stressed that they wouldn't take us. It was a full house yet they were super accommodating. They combined two high tables by the bar to seat us 4. For that alone they should get 5 stars, but there's more!
We knew the wait would be 30 minutes so we started with cocktails while Jacks told us all about her trip to Tokyo. We order the Evergreen : plymouth gin, st. germain, kumquats, sage, lemon - BAM soothing, smooth, refreshing.. need I go on? This I think is my new fav.
The boys ordered the Vin de Pamplemousse square one vodka, viognier, grapefruit juice, vanilla bean & lemon - I can't validate the yumminess but they seemed to like it.
Now for the best part! The food!!
With all this talk of how good the sushi was in Tokyo I was feeling like fish was definitely the way to go - for me at least.
Apps:
little gem lettuce with radishes, pecans and blue cheese vinaigrette - perfect combo of all the ingredients. mmm this dish was fantastic
raw dayboat scallops with avocado, ruby grapefruit and radish sprouts - I love scallops but with the citrus combination I truly fell in love all over again.. Bravo Range.. Bravo
The other 2 apps aren't on the menu: one was a lentil soup that O was pleased with and A had the ravioli stuffed with goat cheese.. You had me at goat cheese- mmmmm
Entrees:
sauted corvina with escarole, fennel, hen of the woods mushrooms and pancetta - OMG Bravo, Bravo, Bravo corvina is a light flakey fish.. the flavors of this dish make you want to smile
roasted chicken with a baby artichoke and toasted almond bread salad, rosemary jus - they say they loved it so I won't argue.. It looked lovely.
Dessert - Hells yeah!!
chocolate crpes with ruby grapefruit and pink peppercorn ice cream - not a winner! They didn't like it very much
The dessert we ordered isn't on the menu. cookies or more like puffs with ice cream... applause, applause
Jacks and I ordered the Bit O' Honey cocktail, we sent it back because it was more bitter than sweet. Second attempt - missed the mark again
All in all the experience was fabulous. Service, great ; food, fantastic; ambiance; excellent.. Bottle of wine that O and Jacks brought out, heavenly
I heart Range!

I love this place. I've been maybe 10 times and I am always happy. The food is stunning, the drinks are too. It can get a little loud but not so much you can't talk.
I have never eaten at a table, I like to wait for a spot at the bar. That way there is no need for a reservation and the bartenders are always great. This is my favorite place to eat in the city right now.

Yes please, more Range. Who would like to take me to Range again?
Standouts for me:
Vin de Pamplemousse: a drink with vodka, grapefruit juice, vanilla, and some kind of herb. I can't remember, but it was wonderful.
The salad with blue cheese vinaigrette.
Dessert: the chocolate crepe with [something] peppercorn ice cream and grapefruit. I know that sounds bizarre, but it was amazing.
I'm normally a full-on vegetarian, but in a rare crazy moment ordered the sole. It was good, but I think I enjoyed the baby artichokes and potatoes surrounding the sole - plus the yumtastic sauce - more. I'll order the vegetarian entree next time.
The service is great. It IS a bit loud in there, but I didn't mind. I think my part of the tab was about $60, not bad.

Just had dinner here tonight. The food was all solid so I can't complain about that but something about the place just didnt do it for me...can't really put my finger on it.I had the quail app and the halibut and my dining companion had the pasta app and pork shoulder...and we shared the souffle for desert. Quail was very tasty...halibut was a bit overcooked and a rather teeny portion. The pork shoulder and pasta we both really flavourful and more substantial. The souffle was OK. The temptation cocktail wasn't very tempting . The wines by the glass were decent. All in all while the food was good it's not the kinda place I want to rush back to. Kinda a wishy washy review but thats kinda how I feel about the place. I will have to try it again just because.

i had been wanting to come here for yrs, and i FINALLY made it here yesterday. we had a drink at the bar, and i got the vin de pamplemousse which was a vodka and grapefruit cocktail, and it was tasty. we were then seated after waiting a few minutes.
the three of us split the asparagus w/ poached egg and breadcrumbs and the arctic char crudo-like app. both were good, particularly the asparagus and egg. i love runny eggs, and the toasted breadcrumbs and cheese made it even better.
for entrees, i had the halibut w/ meyer lemon butter, and my friends had the roast chicken w/ bread salad and the veggie cassoulet. the veggie cassoulet was sooo delicious, and it even had a dolma on top. my halibut was fab as well...so good that i was practically licking the bowl.
for dessert, we split the choc souffle per our server's suggestion, and we were not disappointed. when the server brought us the check, she also brought us some truffles to send us off. however, my bf then showed up and wanted to order dessert, and our server was super nice and brought us his dessert, a new check, and more truffles!!
i think we overstayed our welcome tho, b/c we got so engrossed in conversation that we didn't realize that the entire restaurant was empty other than the staff who were still hanging out and enjoying their late dinner. they probably were waiting to kick us out but were too polite.

i love this place. my fiance & i are (admittedly) "SF foodies" and Range is one of our absolute faves. every single meal, down to each course, has been so tasty. (i'm still trying to emulate their lemon vinaigrette!) the only downside is with the space being tight, you're sitting REALLY close to other tables. some people mind that, others don't. we also love that they constantly update their menu and always have fresh vegetables incorporated into almost every dish. yummmmmm
Excellent Nouveau-American bistro food
Once upon a time, I remember hearing about this new restaurant that opened up in the Mission; taking the place of Timo's. I heard a lot hype, and made it a point to check it out. I remember having dinner with a few friends here, and found the food to be fantastic. I made it a place to go to enjoy an evening with friends and food; and enjoyed many great meals here. I think that it's great that years later, with myself moving out of the city, and after being away for so long; that this restaurant still offers up excellent food.
When I was there last, it felt nostalgic to enter the restaurant again. Again, the decor was beautiful, and very thoughtfully lit. We got there early, so the crowd slowly swept in. There is the other thing I forgot about this place: the noise. It can get pretty loud in here. Oh well, they make their drinks strong. I remember starting off with a rich Gnocchi dish. It was so succulent, and a great starter for things to some. I saw something on the menu and got every excited. Whenever I see Lamb on their menu, I go tunnel-vision. Every single Lamb dish I have had here is superb. We finished the evening with a great dessert. I left the restaurant every happy, as usual.
I'm glad that Range has not faltered, and that it still serves up superb, thoughtful dishes.
I'd give Range 5 stars if the price was slightly cheaper. Cheaper!!! My dinner companion and I ate here at 9pm on a Wed night. The place was packed! Quite surprised was I.
This is what we ordered
Entress:
- braised daube of beef with barley, shiitake mushrooms, green chard and horseradish sauce
- alaskan halibut with pea tendrils, baby turnips, tarragon and meyer lemon aioli
Desserts:
- chocolate crpes with ruby grapefruit and pink peppercorn ice cream
- bittersweet chocolate and armagnac souffl
The food was fantastic. I must be honest, reading the dishes, they all sound just so...normal. But my god. The flavors! Explosions of taste. My friend actually had a spoon and was slurping up the halibut sauce. So GOOD. And the souffle? If you like rich thick chocolate, you will absolutely love this!! I will definitely come back here. Oh, the price? $41/person.
The food here? Very good, but the Michelin star will tell you that. The atmosphere is nice. We were here last Thursday evening, a party of four, our reservations pretty late at 8:45. We arrived early and had a beer, but there is no room to stand around if the bar is full. The beer selection is very limited.
Our food was mostly spectacular, though my raw arctic char with cucumber needed more acid. My entree was a perfectly cooked yellowfin tuna on top of local California beets. Delicious. We had some great local wine here as well.
I can't remember dessert... did we have one?
Overall, I would come here again. Service was good and unobtrusive.
On the expensive side, but what do you expect for food like this in San Francisco?
Sorry to rain on the Range parade, but for me and my party it came down to service. Our server was horrible. And I was eating with my dad (who was in town from NY) and two friends, who are both very into San Francisco restaurants. They suggested Range because of all the great press and the fact that it had been so popular when it first opened that they hadn't been there yet. I'm a server, so I'm a mix of hyper critical yet totally sympathetic when it comes to other servers. Sorry, this girl was the pits. She looked sloppy and uninterested from the get go, never made eye contact, and couldn't tell me what the vegetable cassoulet was. After we ordered our salads and entrees my friend attempted to order wine and the server just walked away like her life depended on getting to that POS system immediately. IF you can't remember four orders, write em down or work on your memorization. Come on dude, not asking about drinks? Serving 101. We ended up ordering two bottles (it was quite a ticket). She was a mess pouring wine, and they should probably not let her place plates on tables. My guess is she must know someone, but Range, it soured our experience, and we won't be returning.
On the positive, the bartender was super cool while we had cocktails before our party had arrived, and the corner booth was comfy and quiet. The cocktails were yummy, the desserts just o-k. The food was good, and I have to mention that the back-up waiter/busboy (I'm not sure how they would label it) was EXCELLENT. From the moment he placed our silverware we all wished he was our server, and my friends' husband told him so before we left. Obviously knows what he is doing. The other servers seemed competent. The hostess was friendly, and the feel was warm, but sorry, the service is the first line of attack, and that failed miserably.

This place is just divine. I really like the ambiance here and it feels so comfy and cozy that I want to stay here longer than I should. Food is fresh, delicious, and presented well.
They were really flexible with our reservation. We were running a little late and when we called them they were so polite and went out of their way to save a table for us.
Now, on to my favorite... the cocktail choices. Devil's Kiss is to die for. I can not stop ordering this.... I'm sure the wine list is great too and my date never complains about their wines but I have only taken few sips here and there. Not enough to make a legitimate comment. why? cuz I'm busy drinking my Devil's Kiss (I know, its such a faux pas to drink cocktail with dinner but I can't help it)
Last time I was here, I thought their first courses out shined the second courses. It can be a bummer when your dinner starts out with a bang and kinda sizzles away. However I think I'm just being extremely critical and just nit-picking b/c you really have to dig deep to say anything critical about this place. Menu is seasonal and there is always something new to try and there will at least be one dish that will knock your socks off.
If you are hesitant to try this place, just go in for a drink and appetizers at the bar. Indulge in the cocktails and 1st courses b/c that's what they do best.
Service is attentive, food is awesome, ambiance is great....I just wish they had a valet parking service.
I LOVED this restaurant. The food and service were spectacular, and the attention to local, organic food won me over. This is one of my favorite places to eat in the city!
Artichoke appetizer and lamb entree were amazing.
Scallops entree was not good, not enough flavor.
Desserts and wine were very good, but not at the level of the artichoke or lamb dishes.
Presentation was top-notch across the board, and portions are a good size to allow room for an appetizer and dessert.
The restaurant was nice and a perfect temperature (not too warm or cool). The waitstaff was nice but not overly so, and respected our space. I was focused on my company rather than the surroundings, so I don't have a detailed review of the non-food aspects.
Yum. Loved my food, very good casual service. Great place to take out of town friends. Very good wine.
I love Range. Usually just sit at the bar for a salad and the special cocktail. Bartenders are quite knowledgeable about their drink.

Another delicious American upscale wine bar located in the Mission can be crossed off my wish list.
After doing some quality yelpsearching and listening to a few recommendations, we ordered the following:
Apps
Asparagus with sheep-milk cheese*
Giant grilled prawns
Cream of escarole soup**
Entrees
Roasted chicken*
Pulled pork with coffee glaze
Grilled rock cod
Dessert
Rhubarb consumme*
Chocolate crepes with grapefruit

Nice sophisticated wine bar atmosphere, good service (the waitress even recommended to "wait until next time" to order a particular drink on the menu since the bartender who created it had the night off). Loved the art hanging in the corridor of tables section, too.
I don't recommend coming here for a quiet, intimate dinner as it was a struggle to converse and hear my party, even inches away. Some crazy acoustics in here...then again, there wasn't too much talking going on when the food arrived.
