Two important things.

1) I adopted my two dogs, Happy and Nessie, from here.
2) Dog park.

I think my dogs get excited for 2 reasons when we go to the dog park because I want to believe that they themselves have good memories of RCHS (haha) and that we're going to the dog park so they can get their groove on.

You know, it's a scene for canines.  To see and be seen.  Smell butts; poop where you want; and I'm convinced they think they are taking me out to meet their buddies.

The RCHS facilities are clean with a professional staff.  Jim, the manager, is a good guy and busy and practical.  I've worked with him on a few things to help make RCHS better.  That's the least I could do for them since I adopted from them.

That said, adopt from RCHS before you decide to buy a pet.  Pure breeds are overrated. LOL

While the whole facility is great, we have only had occasion to use the dog park. My wife and daughter volunteer there with the National Charity League. I'd never been there until my wife called me during her first volunteer session and told me to pack our dogs (Dempsey, a black lab, and Rusty, a cockapoo (we think)) and get over there.

While I had a great time, the dogs really had a blast! Running around, chasing tennis balls, meeting other dogs - they loved it.

I highly recommend getting your dog over there on a weekend.

Your staff is so helpful. I could see how you might need some volunteers to help play with the dogs.  I think I will come back and help.  If you want  a fulfilling day, go help.

For over 40 years, Rancho Coastal Humane Society continues to prove that they really really care about the animals. I only wish I had more time to volunteer here, and although it's been awhile, the entire experience as a volunteer at RCHS was fun, positively fulfilling, and rewarding. Just to become a volunteer here, you must go through an interview process and several days of group and individual training. RCHS is a quality branch of the Humane Society organization and their reasoning and selective process for volunteers really protects and benefits the wonderful animals. The facility is ranch-like, with an office and kennel areas being the main adopter accessible areas... spreading out to large enclosed yards where volunteers take future family pets out to play and enjoy the California sunshine. The adoption fee is low (somewhere around $100) and being a part of the wonderful cause of connecting pets to loving owners is a true joy.
From their site... "One of RCHS' main goals is the adoption of animals to permanent, loving homes. RCHS' adoption process is tailored to find the best match between pets and people. After finding the perfect match, perspective adopters learn about health care, nutrition requirements, grooming, exercise, responsible pet ownership, socialization and the importance of the human/animal bond."

Another great aspect of RCHS is their new acre wide leash free dog park, Crickets Corner... where anyone can bring their furry family for some social interaction and play time. More information on the dog park (hours, rules, etc) can be found on their website at http://www.rchumanesoc...
