Wilton, CT
This lively restaurant will keep you coming back because of their excellent service (friendly, attentive and great with groups and families) and the fun atmosphere (mariachi, murals and decorations.) The food is good, we especially love the salsa and guacamole and the burritos and fahitas. The food is a bit on the salty side but honestly, most mexican restaurants around here are. We always have a good time here and they keep us coming back.

Although Florio, the owner, is a nice guy, unfortunately the food is WAY below awful. There isn't a hint of Mexican cuisine anywhere to be found on the menu. Suffice it to say that the restaurant suffers from a horrible attitude about Gringos..make it fun for the kids and their idiot, selfish parents, then slop some garbage in front of them, ply the parents with margaritas, and hope that it catches on..unfortunately, it has. Another embarassment for Fairfield County.
The only game in town, I mean the County is Mexicali Rose in Newtown: truly remarkable, simple Mexican cuisine. Skip Florio's gimmick and dine on real food...Mexicali Rose. -

Everyone who has been dissing Rancho Alegre must be a failing competing Mexican Restaurant. The salsa is fresh and the best I have found in CT and NYC it's incomparable to any other Mexican restaurant I have been to and trust me I've been to a lot. While the food on the menu may not be "authentic" Mexican food, it sure is delicious. Florio is a sweetheart and really cares about his restaurant. The raspberry margaritas are by far my favorite, they aren't the overly sugary nor from one of those horrendous mixes. The cadillac margarita is also delicious. You can go to Rancho for just appetizers and be completely full by the time you leave. However, it is really difficult to leave Rancho without a fajita or the house salad. Both amazing!

I like this place. Food is good, service nice. Owner is super nice. Since there is a dearth of restaurants in the area, the place is packed with kids and is VERY family oriented Fri/Sat night until 7pm or so. If you don't like kids, don't go then. Wait until 8/9PM and you are golden. If you do like kids, hurray, you found a good spot to go to.

Friendliest people anywhere in Fairfield County. Got a birthday to plan? A family gathering? Just had a bad day and want a boost? Then this is your place. Fantastic homemade salsa and tortilla chips. If you're of the imbibing set then try one of their many many tequilas (several bottles even have worms in them. Ewwww). There are a few vegetarian options (but beware, they've traditionally cooked their beans with lard). If you're stuck, for whatever reason, in the Wilton - Georgetown area, then this is a must visit.
Oh - and fair warning, portions are MASSIVE so order a few things and split with a friend. -

Rancho Alegre is a decent Mexican restaurant. Not fantastic, not sucky either. The food is about average. The first few times I went many years ago it was pretty bad but in the last couple it improved quite a bit.
The owners are super, super friendly and make you feel at home. But, unless your home is full of 90 yelling children running around, that quickly wears off. The place is always packed with families and the kids always seem to be screaming for one reason or another. Parents are often too blasted on margaritas to seem to care.
Parking is always a pain in GTown so be careful walking down the middle of main street. The parents on margaritas eventually get into their cars... -

Not sure what the other reviewers saw in this place. My experience was not so pleasant. Recently went with a party of six based on what we had read. The food was uneventful to say the least as was the service. As I stated in a review that seemed to have gotten lost. The only thing decent was the chips and salsa that come complimentary to the table. I am not sure as to whether or not the salsa was made fresh or from the jar. If it was from the jar, my recomendation to the management or owner would be to purchase everything pre-made for the restaurant. Perhaps then it could be consistantly average as opposed to having food that is tasteless and uneventful. Cilantro should be used to compliment a dish. In this case it was the only thing you could taste and there was far to much of it used.
Thank god for the margaritas. My suggestion would be to have four or five of them so the food is an afterthought. -

I can't believe I'm the first person to sing this restaurant's praises. This was my home-away-from-home when I lived in CT. I love this place so much, I seriously thought about asking if they'll rent me an apartment above the restaurant -- if there are actually apartments up there. Now that I'm in NYC, I really miss it. The staff is super friendly, the food is great (although don't expect gourmet), and the margaritas are potent. Go at an off time and sit at the bar and watch a soccer match. The chips are homemade and the salsa is amazing.

Solid Mexican place. If you are around and are in the mood for Mexican it works. If you want better creative Mexican food at higher prices and in a smaller more upscale setting try Southwest Cafe next to stop and shop in Ridgefield (about 5-6 miles away).

Rancho Alegre is one of the only mexican restaurants in the area and is pretty standard but above average. They have the standard mariachi band that comes to your table, the tacky decor, and complimentary chips and salsa pre meal. With that being said, I always have a great time when i come here, which might have something to do with the quantity of tequila i throw down. I came for my birthday one year and the staff was very accommodating. I was given a huge sombrero to wear throughout dinner and was treated to a rousing rendition of happy birthday from the house band. On regular nights I usually order the chimichangas which are excellent. When im in the mood for something different i go with the enchiladas, tacos, or fajitas. They have a great homemade hot sauce that really adds to the dishes.
