I was a bit reluctant to go here at first, as we'd driven by it the day before, and its name and sign alone turned me off. But appearances and names can be wonderfully deceiving.
We joined a large group of friends for Sunday brunch. Do not miss this! They had samplings of things off their menu, as well as many other items. Everything from tofu scramble, to grouper, to pancakes, to cakes, to vegetarian biscuits 'n gravy, to salads, was all amazingly delicious. I went back for several platefuls, as did several of my friends.
Can't wait to go back!
Wonderfully diverse menu, great cocktails too.
We had a lovely evening eating outdoors and drinking bourbon cocktails here. Our server, Erin, was amazing. She was energetic, engaging and gave good advice.
I was thrilled to find both vegetarian and vegan items flagged on the menu and had a wonderful seitan parmigiana sandwich.
Price-wise, there items that weren't too expensive, but that's if you only ordered the one item.
Ambiance is relaxed and casual.
Yummers!
All I can say is WOW. This is the most diverse menu I've ever seen. The menu is HUGE to say the least. I started with the Asparagus Fritti which was really good if you like deep fried asparagus. The Pollo Nuevo Havana came next as the entree and caused maximum stuffage. The service was good. The carmel chocolate cake was even better.
Great food, good service, laid back atmosphere, good prices, vegan and vegetarian friendly too.
Don't come here if you're indecisive. Too many choices from all over the globe to choose from.
So the latkes is what we started out with. They were yum but in a different form than I had ever had. I have them home made and I liked the more shredded form than the more fine form here at Rami's, however the taste was still really great.
I tasted the Egyptian sink--a combination of angel hair pasta, white rice, lentils, and a mixture of other ingredients. I actually almost ordered it but was glad I had not when I tasted it. Several people in my party liked it but it was just not working for me. . .at all.
I ordered the homemade seitan (vegetable protein) friend with Parmesan and it was really great. It came with a side of roasted potatoes with rosemary which was tasty as well.
I enjoyed the atmosphere, especially the outside dining area that I did not experience, but it looked lovely none the less. We were seated quickly and the service was quick and friendly.
Definitely worth visiting if you want to be adventurous and try something different.
Flavorful food from across the spectrum. Not the fanciest place but a variety of dishes that's hard to find. One of the best in Louisville!
I loved Ramsi's!
I went with a group of my fraternity brothers and some ladies on a Friday night, it was rather packed, yet the wait was only about 45 minutes.
It took awhile for our server, but I wasn't worried considering how busy it was.
As for the menu, about as diverse as one could possibly want! If you can't find something to eat on that menu, well, you should probably just give up.
I went simple, as I was not that hungry and ordered an origonal bruschetta appetizer, yet, I sampled many of my friends choices, from Jamacian Chicken, to the Greek salad with shrimp, they were all great. And the price was right as well.
I had a great time, and loved the setting, I will be sure to return the next time I'm in Louisville.
After a full day of driving on the road from Iowa to KY for a week of vacation, this place really hit the spot. While the menu was a bit overwhelming with so many choices and combinations of ethnic foods, our selections were quite good. My East meets West Fajitas were a wonderful and tasty concept.
There was a strange service snafu when it became clear that two waitresses were fighting to serve our table, each one insisting that they were our waitress. After we got that straightened out the rest of our dining experience was fine.
If I lived in L'ville I'd probably want to try this place a few more times before I rated it, 1st to get a better sample of its expansive menu (I wondered can they do everything well?) and 2nd to see if our strange service experience was normal or not.
I was sad I didn't discover Ramsi's until now. The place has an extensive menu, and nearly everything I've tried there is delicious. (I highly recommend the Panini Caprese!) Not for the unadventurous eater, though.
The place has a great atmosphere. It can get a bit loud, though, especially on the weekends, so if you're looking to have a deep conversation, Ramsi's is not the place to go.
Try it! It's a Louisville gem.
Hello options! Ramsi's menu is huge and everything sounds oh so tasty! Okay, since I'm going that direction, let's talk about the food first. Like the name indicates, this restaurant has dishes inspired from many different corners of the world, just reading about the dishes made my taste buds come out and dance. There are also tons of vegetarian and vegan options on the menu for those customers that are of the no meat eating club. I obviously am of the meat eating club as I had the Greek fajitas and they were flavorful and plentiful. BTW, this place isn't stingy on the portions!
So not only does this place have great food but it also has a pretty cool ambiance. Definitely has a worldly flair with all the old National Geographics on the shelves and funky art work on the walls. Oh yeah, and they have an older gentlemen that comes in and does magic tricks for tables on the weekends. He's pretty entertaining, but definitely wants a tip for his time at your table. Service is okay, nothing great, but the food and drinks make up for it.
As a person new to the area, this is definitely a place I will be dining at again!
Another place I always have to go to when in town. There are a myriad of dishes to choose from and the best thing to do is to order a few and share because it is always THAT good.
SInce it is a "World Cafe" anyone with any taste can go and find something they like, my sister is a vegetarian and of course never has a problem. To finish it off they have some excellent java.
Pros: Great food, good prices
Cons: Service can be a tad slow at times. Waits can be long.
Ramsi's is a local favorite that has earned its status as a Louisville Must-Eat. Whenever people tell me they don't get why everyone thinks it's so great, that's a clue to me that the person probably has a dull palate.
Ramsi's has such a mind-blowingly lengthy menu, there's no way you can expect the full experience in one visit. I advise taking a friend who can point you in the direction of a couple of dishes, because otherwise you will lose a good half-hour trying to make up your mind. (Speaking of which, the smoky beef & artichoke heart pita is my favorite.) Friends also facilitate multiple appetizers, of which there are at least 2 dozen excellent options. A general rule of thumb: avoid the most conventional-sounding things on the menu. Although they are undoubtedly delicious, you are better off trying something a little more exotic that will really knock your socks off. If you want something more 'plain,' then at least stretch to something with a little Caribbean or Indian kick to it. I take a lot of picky eaters here, and they're usually pleasantly surprised by the slightly tweaked dishes.
The food is excellent, but a bit over rated. It is not expensive, the service is usually good and they have a unique feel. I wish the seating were better, and that the service would be more consistant, other then that it is good.
Everytime I am home, I come to Ramsis. Love LOVE the Jamaican Chicken sandwich and the Thai noodles. Other than the sloppy falafel, which is darn good, I have not gotten to experience much of the menu due to the fact that I need to have my entrees when I am in the Ville.
My friends and I start with queso and dont end until the piano is being played!
I have been going to Ramsis since it was only the small store front full of smoke. Now that is has expanded to include the next door building and an outdoor section, there is no stopping Ramsis the Great!
The staff is chalk full of hipster delight with some sass on the side, and I never have a bad experience. Even if the wait is 30 min, I go read some nextdoor. :)
Go. Now.
My first visit to Louisville and my first meal in Louisville....it is a MUST.
The atmosphere is eclectic and adorable. Richly painted walls with unique and fun decorations. The tables and chairs are all different and yet very homey.
My co-workers and I started out with two reasonably priced and tastey bottles of wine followed by the greek inspired empenda and queso, both were very yummy. Its very difficult to decide on a dish because the menu is so diverse. I could not decide between the turkey burger, the fish tacos, or the eggplant parm sandwich. I went with the eggplant and a salad but I wish I would have tried the tacos. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because the eggplant was very chewy. The bread, cheese, and sauce were all very yummy, but the eggplant was just too chewy to be 5 stars.
Our server was very cute not to mention super nice about waiting for us to decide and then splitting the bill, even the bottles of wine, 6 ways to make our work travel much easier.
It's a little loud, a little funky, and a lot awesome! Next time I'm in Louisville I will have to go back!
Funky place. And that should imply that the experience is a mixed bag. The vibe of the place is very laid back and, dare I say: hippie. Most of the food I've had there has been excellent. The Thai influenced Paella is perhaps my favorite. But I've had weird experiences with the service. Slow and at one point totally confusing my friend's order. If a couple more visits produce food as good as the Paella, I'll be happy to give another star.
We just moved to Louisville from DC; Ramsi's had the great international food we're used to, but at a lot lower price (if I get homesick, I guess I can always overpay).
I recommend the Isabelle Panini (think Cuban). The wine list was extensive and well priced too.
And props for having Kronenbourg 1664!
What an impressive menu! I enjoyed my tikka wrap, but it didn't blow me away. The sauce it came with was "eh". And the baba ganoush sucked. I would go back and give it another chance though. definitely.
SO kitsch. SO fun. And with an amazing Pim's. The black bean dish is phenomenal, and completely filling. The portions are huge so you can always share, but it's a must-stop if you're in the neighborhood, and totally demonstrative of Louisville's quirkier side.
When I'm in Louisville, Ramsi's is a MUST. A smargasboard of international and fusion flavors, at resonable prices, awaits you. Only a few places I've been to in Chicago can play ball with Ramsi's. This place is total insanity.
And in the summer, the outdoor seating on freaky-deaky Bardstown bumps things to a new level. Can't wait to come back.
From a recent road trip, I learned something very important. If you are looking for eclectic food, go to a university town. They will have plenty to choose from...otherwise, you are stuck with more commercial type restaurants.
As other reviewers have mentioned, the menu is a myriad of foods from around the world. The restaurant itself is eclectic with Persian rugs on the floor, Indian furniture, Roman sculptures, and even a big painting of Albert Einstein. The scene seems to come from the University of Kentucky in Louisville, where there is a diverse population of ethnicity and age groups..
We ordered: The mezze ( A Lebanese tapas plate of hummus, feta cheese, kalamata olives, baba ghonoush, falafal, roasted peppers, cucumber tomato relish, banana peppers and pita) to start.
Our two entrees is not listed in the current online menu, but was tenderloin tips with bulgogi sauce, lima beans, and jasmine rice. The other was seared scallops over a mixed green salad. It was all very savory and my son loved the steak.
The place is not spotless and the service was ok, but it was packed so I guess that was the reason.
Excellent brunch! A huge variety of meats, fish, vegan, ethnic, and comfort foods. Great coffee. Very comfortable and cozy atmosphere. If I were a local, I'd be a regular. At my next Louisville visit, I vow to try dinner, too.
Ramsi's has been around for so long, and it is so popular, that many people in Louisville are tired of it already. However, Ramsi's is the perfect place to go if you are in a group. Their menu has something for every taste, from Cajun to Italian to Medeteranian, etc...and they are super nice about spliting up the bill for you. The food is actually very good too. My favorites entrees are the CUBeAN Burrito and the Tortellini Graciella. It is a good spot for lunch or dinner. I'm not a fan of their desserts, however, so I suggest going somewhere else for dessert.
The menu is hit and miss here. Stale tortilla chips languish alongside an outstanding creme caramel.
Summers are best spent on the patio. Bring a few friends, order a tasty beverage, discuss your pathetic existence and it's impact on the universe. Yes, it is that kind of place.
Ramsi's is a good spot for discussion after an event. I've gone there after shows, movies, and church to discuss the experiences and it's a good idea because it can take a while for your food to get to you, but it's usually worth it.
The Hummus is pretty bad ass, and I like the warm pita bread that it comes with. I've liked all of the entrees that I've tried but found the pasta dishes to be the most satisfying. Another must besides the hummus would have to be the fried plantains- my Mom used to make these for me as a kid for breakfast on the weekends only she made them with bananas and called them "banana fritters". The fried plantains took me back to those times where I would have breakfast with my Mom and watch cartoons, and they put syrup on them just like my mom used to do- very nice.
I go there a couple times a month lately.
Vegan Friendly.
Make reservations.
Driving from Ohio, and anticipating Ramsi's for weeks, we got there only to discover that it would be an hour and a half wait until we could be seated.
We didn't have an hour and a half, so we missed out.
Filled with disappointment, we went elsewhere.
But the first time we went they were not AS busy. It was earlier in the day, too. They have myriad vegan (and non vegan) choices, and, of what we had ordered, we were not disappointed in the least! It actually inspired me to go home and make seitan, a vegan option that I had not yet explored, but now frequently use due to the wonderfulness that is Ramsi's!
We wanted to go back the next day, but they don't open until for on Sundays.
.........We're making reservations next time.
Diets NOT allowed in this place. LOL. Lot's of great selections and large portions. Ask for Suzi. A great server.
I have been curious about Ramsi's for quite a long time. Finally satisfied my curiosity and wished I had not waited so long. Give yourself a lot of time to study the menu. It is full of diverse choices, being with good friends I sampled their dinner as well as my own and everything was good. You know how sometimes you are with someone and they ordered smarter than you? Well at Ramsi's that feeling is unnecessary. Others have commented about the unique interior and it does have ambiance, outside is great in good weather and I will prefer to stay away from the smokers in the bar but if you want it they have that too. We were there so long that the place emptied and filled up again about 9:30pm.
Date place, but inside was a little loud.
I had great wait service, but perplexing system for getting a table.
I have eaten more meals here than I care to remember. This spot has really become an important Louisville fixture. The atmosphere is always enjoyable, the service is good, and the food is usually pretty consistent. A safe bet for a good meal.
The food is really great, and not expensive. Drinks are more expensive than I'd like though.
The only other gripe I might have about Ramsi's is that the menu is possibly too diverse. If you order the right things, there is nowhere better, but a few of their entrees don't live up.
The east meets west tacos and the focaccia are both insanely good. And if there is a wait, you can hang out at Carmichael's Bookstore next door and the hostess will come find you.
I'm a fan because the location and the prices of the food. The fish sandwich is super good and so are the fish tacos. They have a lot to choose from but stay away from the Bison sandwich. I didn't have it but my love did and he couldn't finish it because it was too tough. The drinks are on the expensive side. They have live music on some nights are have wine specials after 10.
My brother and I love this restaurant. When we are in Louisville it's a given that we'll be eating here. Their vegetarian selections are delicious. It's nice that you can either sit inside or outside and it's in the heart of Bardstown rd.
I've been to Ramsi's three times and have always gotten pretty rotten service. The food is better, luckily.
I travel to Louisville fairly frequently for work, and a couple of years ago I ventured out of downtown and into the Highlands in search of dinner and/or a cafe in which I could read and relax. In addition to some other places, I found Ramsi's. It is a fabulous restaurant with great service and a really diverse menu. I'm vegan and love all the options they offer (in particular the jerk seitan sandwich). All of the meat eaters that I've brought to Ramsi's have enjoyed it as well. It's reasonably priced and a comfortable place to eat with a large group or on your own. I especially like eating on the patio when the weather is cooperating.
Great food and atmosphere at a spectacular price. This place is a real treat!!!
I ordered the plantain dessert; what I got were fried bananas, and they were burned.
