Second visit to this place in '09 was quite a different story as we had an old filthy horribly out of date room and the place was full of loud obnoxious teens (not the hotels fault) but we got nowhere with calls to the office. I will find a cleaner nicer place next time in the same neighborhood close to Kiva retreat.

I cannot speak for the state of the hotel room, as I was not able to even get that far.  But I would guess that the others who wrote their reviews depict an accurate picture.

I had to book a hotel room last minute, and was on my way to Santa Cruz from Southern California.  I contacted http://hotels.com as I noticed while I browsed on my phone that there was vacancy at the Ramada, which seemed reasonably low priced.  The gentleman from http://hotels.com confirmed that there was availablity and booked my room.

When I tried to check in, the young lady behind the desk informed me that my reservation was not in the system.  I explained that I had made the reservation through http://hotels.com and showed her my confirmation number.  She then informed me that I should then contact http://hotels.com and deal with them directly.  Infuriated after a long drive, I snapped that since http://hotels.com was booking rooms for the Ramada that she should contact http://hotels.com and figure out what went wrong.  She requested for her Manager, an unpleasant lady who on site did not want to hear my plight but blankly reiterated that I should contact http://hotels.com myself.

While on hold for a http://hotels.com rep a friend searched travelocity and mentioned that travelocity had also posted vacancies for the Ramada.  Turns out, Ramada had not closed out their inventory to prevent overbooking.

The Ramada's lack of customer service and unwillingness to help is a reflection of the other aspects of their hotel and I would not recommend staying there.  Thankfully, the lady I spoke with on http://hotels.com was very customer service orientated, put me up in the Holiday Inn Express where I was greeted by a friendly smile and better customer service.

Santa Cruz lodging is notoriously obscenely priced during the summer - particularly over 4th of July weekend.  So of course, that's just when we went!  (It was for a dear friend's birthday, what could we do?)  Unfortunately, the campgrounds were all reserved, and our usual Best Western was booked.  So we stayed at this motel.  I'll tell you how much we paid at the end of this review, so you'll really feel the impact of so little for so much.

Motel smell.  You know, the carpet cleaner smell mixed in with mildew, food smells & maybe a very faint cigarette smell.

Unclean.  They may have used carpet cleaner, but they forgot to wipe the toilet, which had mysterious "sprinkles" on the seat.  Gross.  Oh, and also, long dark hairs on the floor by the tub.  Ew.

Nylon sheets & lumpy pillows.  Kinda creepy feeling on my skin, and an unpleasant crick in my neck upon awakening.

All of this, for the high high price of $150.00!!!

+1 star for free wireless, but I still feel like a dumb-ass for staying here.

    1.  More than $100 a night

    2.  Ants in our bed.

    3.  Janky air/heat unit.

    4.  Fridge that sounded like it was going to explode and kill us.

    5.  Old lumpy stale pillows.

On the plus side - it actually had decent water pressure.

    Not recommended.

From the outside, the hotel looks decent, safe and clean. But the rooms are a little disappointing and small.
My girlfriend and I stayed one night recently and were disappointed from the start. The desk clerk who checked us in was pretty unfriendly. No "welcome" or smile. I asked him about the Italian restaurant across the street and he plainly told me it was good and pretty casual. Not much else said after that.

My girlfriend asked for an extra pillow later that evening. The night desk girl brought it to our room and all that she she said was "pillow" as she tossed it into my girlfriend's hands. WTF? It was like a cavewoman encounter at the Ramada.

We slept alright there. It was a little noisy outside our door since the pool is right there and the parking lot is there is well. The bed was ok but the blanket was clearly dirty with some mysterious substance that stood out like an American in Tokyo.

The next morning, we had their free continental breakfast. If you like carbs, come on down! Pastries, packages of oatmeal, waffles, muffins and cereal. It was free though.

The location is good since it's blocks from downtown SC and has easy access to the 13 back to San Jose or the 1 to head north or south. I probably won't stay here again but I'm not too upset about the $77 I spent on that one night.

To be totally fair, I didn't pay for my stay at this hotel.  My parents paid, but they agree with what I'm going to say.

We only stayed here for two nights.  The staff was unpleasant and went out of their way to be unfriendly.  The rooms were dirty, dirtier than I expect from most cheap hotels.  The cleaning staff also wouldn't clean our room till about 4 in the afternoon.  The cleaning staff failed at cleaning our bathrooms.  I try not to expect much, but all the tiles were dirty and the bathtub left a rash on my bum.  Not cool.

The parking is absolutely ridiculous.  The spaces are tiny.  You can barely manage to get out without doing a 6 point turn.

The pool was fine, just unimpressive.

Outside of one of the rooms on the bottom floor was a chair with a huge stain on it.  I don't know why it was there, it was just disgusting.  I'm not sure if they wanted us to use it, or just stare at the stain and wonder what bodily fluid it might be.  My mother and I both received bug bites from sleeping in the beds.  Our table was falling apart and the fridge, every now and then would make an odd loud noise.

The breakfast was awful.  Some of the basics you could come to expect from bad hotel breakfasts weren't even there.  They had run out of cereal and only had one kind left.  The milk was lukewarm and there were no bagels and cream cheese!  Come on now.  They could have at least thrown out some not ripe bananas and apples.  It's not fruit is super expensive.  It's probably cheaper than all the bread they bought.

I was disappointed and disgusted.  I also may have left my sunglasses there, but I wouldn't know because when I tried to call they were completely unhelpful.  I've left my phone number with them 2 times and yet they still won't even call to say if my glasses are there or not.

After calling and confirming my reservation in the afternoon, saying I'd be arriving late that night, I showed up at 1am to find their night staff missing, the night doorbell useless, and no one to pick up the phone. Needless to say, I didn't end up staying there and they lost a customer for good.

BED BUGS HERE!!!!! This hotel has bed bugs and it's even reported on the bud bug registry. Don't stay here! The hotel has known for months about their bed bugs and have done nothing about it. They even lied  saying they don't have them. I guess they don't care about their guest. Please beware and stay some place else!

I know Santa Cruz is a beach town and because of that the costs of lodging can get high for crap. However, this particular "limited" Ramada totally lives up to that name. I agree with Chris K's review 100% saying that the staff was anything but warm, the set up is noisy, the rooms are one step above a motel 6, all this while the outside is fairly nice. If we stay in Santa Cruz again, it won't be here.

The price, at least in February when it is raining is great.  The hotel has free Wi-Fi and the room is a decent size, reasonably clean and has coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave as well as the standard items.  Breakfast is provided but only consists of waffles, bread, cereal,  some pastries, juices and coffee.  No fruit, yogurt or other healthy items.  My biggest complaint is with the front desk.  They are pretty grumpy... you tell them the juice is out or could I have a late check out and they give you a scowl.
