5 reviews for Ramada Inn of Jersey City
The Ramada Limited in Jersey City ended up being a great hotel for my recent trip to New York. Even though the neighborhood was a little scary looking and the hotel not the most modern, I would gladly come back and stay here again.
The hotel staff were fantastic. The front desk clerks checked us in, and helped point us to the PATH Station with a map and valuable information about the area. The night clerk who greeted us every night upon our return was very friendly as well.
And my biggest compliments go out to the girl behind the front desk on the Saturday morning and the Saturday morning hotel shuttle driver. My alarm clocks were having issues so I didn't quite make it down to the lobby on time for the 8 am shuttle to the airport, but no one was heading out on it, so the shuttle didn't go. I made it to the lobby at 8:15 and the front desk clerk attempted to get a hold of the driver to see if he could make a special run to the airport for me, otherwise I'd have to wait for the 9 am shuttle. Fortunately she found him, and he was willing and able to make the run for me and he dropped me off at the departure gate instead of just the hotel shuttle pick-up/drop-off point. I really do appreciate the extra mile service of the staff, You don't find that level of service very often anymore.
i gotta give it 3 stars due to the location... i'm from cali and i love the fact that the hotel was right smack dab in da middle of da hood! we were literally right around the corner from sneaker sqaure AKA journal square...
not to mention walkin distance to the PATH train that took us into NYC in about 10-15 mins... or hit up da clubs in hoboken on a thursday night... fuggetabout da cab ride into the city they were tryna charge me 75 dollars when it only cost me a dolla fifty on da train....
well gettin back to da hotel.... we had a 2 bdrm it was very dark and kinda dingy the room looked like it could've been back in da days a very small apartment... if i was single i would love to stay here again but i have a wife and kids and it's not quite clean enough... don't get me wrong if you just want a place to stay and don't mind a little old skool non-renovated hotel this hotel is a winner due to da location and you get to meet da locals and hang out like them too...
props to da manager he was cool and hooked it up on the rate and it was last minute... cool filipino kat...

I was here for two nights, I would have given it 4 star but the neighborhood doesn't feel safe after dark for a single female traveler when walking from the Journal Square PATH Station to the hotel, only a 1.5 block walk on a busy street and once you get on Tonnelle, it becomes desolute. I read some negative reviews on TripAdvisor so had some concerns but the front desk desk was very helpful over the phone before I arrived.
A lot of vagrants hanging out late night at the JS PATH Station.
Had a problem with the electronic keys, didn't work while I was there, in fact, all the electronic locks didn't work throughout the hotel, so the front desk staff had to go up with you to open your room door, sometimes you would have to wait a while for them.
It feels a bit dated, the 70's but there were some good amenities, like a free breakfast (didn't wake up to try it), had a little kitchenette with a sink, microwave and fridge.
Had the usual musty motel smell, so I always bring room fresheners with me, so that helped. The AC worked well but noisy, window unit type.
Got it online for $99, pretty good rate being so close to the PATH station and NY, around a 20 minute ride.
So it had some good and bad points.

My wife and I spent one night here last week on our trip to NYC. We were expecting something much worse, but were pleasantly suprised. The place is an older property that has been updated. The look is a mix of 80's and a building from the 60's or so. The room was large with a microwave, fridge, bathroom and closet. The usual musty smell was from the A/C not being on...we quickly remedied that. We only spent one night but would have gone a few more if needed. Plus...the front desk help was very good.

Formally the "mayflower motel", a hooker hotel, this was purchased by ramada, renovated and updated but I still would never send my worst enemy (even as a sick twisted evil joke) to this hotel..and i mean it.
