Ah, the memories I have here.   Being located right across the street from the Willamette University campus, the Ram was a favorite standby during my college years... I celebrated many a 21st birthday here (including my own), drank countless pints of Oregon Blonde on the half-off Sunday nights, and scarfed down more than my share of mud pies.

On a recent visit to Salem, I met up with a few friends for dinner on the patio to reminisce about the good old days.  My rosy memory had conveniently omitted the part about the slow service here - our dinner took probably 25-30 minutes to come out, but the food was good.  Focaccia club sandwich was yummy as ever, and one of our group had a burger and said it was top notch.  The fries were fine, but I managed to leave most of mine uneaten and instead saved some room for mud pie dessert.

The mud pie would be reason enough to return here time and time again, as far as I'm concerned (the bread pudding runs a close second)... but I also enjoy their microbrews and the sports bar atmosphere.  It's a little weird that the bar isn't smoky anymore these days, but I suppose that is a good change.

The place isn't the most consistent as far as service and food quality go, so I'd give it a solid three stars in that department, but I'm giving it a fourth star just for all the good times I've had here.  And for the mud pie.  Did I mention it is a "mile high"?  Amazing!

Total disorder porter, dead guy ale (you can find this in Cali), and buttface amber ale.... the names say enough.

I visited Portland and Salem, OR, and the Ram Brewery was one of the many bars we stopped at. Right across the street from the Wilammette football field, so don't get sacked on your way in.

Friendly/talkative bartender, a lot of people hanging out having a loud and fun good time, and the perfect spot to kick back and enjoy a few Oregon microbrews.

The log cabin structure makes you feel like you're hanging out in a friendly bar in vail, CO, minus the snobs. Into the Wild..... last stop before backpacking into the beautiful outskirts of Oregon.

I'm not a local, so my four star rating might seem a little optimistic, but hey, the glass is half full in my opinion.

4 of us went here for dinner on a Wed night.  The place was packed but we were taken to a table right away, which was a pleasant surprise.  We did wait a while to be greeted but once the service started, things went very smoothly.  Sodas were large, my virgin daiquri came out with large chunks of unpureed ice but they made me a new one, promptly, which was perfect and Hubby liked his virgin mary.  Our buttface cheese dip was really good and so were the potato skins.  They were looaded with cheese and bacon, the best I have ever had.  All our meals came out hot and tasting great, with wonderful plate presentation.  Our server was friendly, attentive and prompt and the prices were relatively good.  The steaks were a little over priced, though.  ($22 for a ribeye, is a bit much)  Overall we had a great time and really enjoyed our food.  I would recommend this place with 2 thumbs up!

Oh The Ram.  How it still haunts my memories.  After I turned twenty one, many a Sunday night was spent here for half-off on EVERYTHING.  So amazing.  The beers are good, the teas will get you drunk in nothing flat, which is okay since they have some pretty serious bar food.  I got to missing the Loaded Ram Chips so badly after moving that my room mate and I attempted to make our own one night!  In the evenings (especially Thursdays and Sundays, if their discounts still run true to form) the place will be packed with college students, but service was always pretty good.  Truly the perfect college pub.

They have decent beer and food but the atmosphere just isn't my style.  If you don't mind crowds of frat boys and over-highlighted, tanorexic college girls (or their drooling admirers) - or Capitol runoff - then you may not mind.

Service runs the gamut from very, very good to awful.

I'm a mug club member here because the beer is pretty good and have become good friends with a couple of the servers. Don't go here asking for bud light or coors, order one of their microbrews. The bar area is pretty cool and can get pretty lively depending on who's there. There are many TVs usually with sports on. Sunday's are half off a limited menu. A few years ago I would have given the Ram 5 stars, but in recent date they have gone "corporate" and the food portions have decreased and so has friendly service. The food is okay, kind of expensive. The service is very inconsistent and depends on the server. There have been some servers that have hooked it up fat and others who banned some of my friend for life without just cause. Bottom line, I go here often for the beer and because I'm part of the mug club that makes the beer cheap. If it's your birthday ask for the mud pie.

It was a much-needed girls' night out.

The seven of us choose The Ram to get a few drinks and a bite to eat one Saturday night.  At 8pm, it was unsurprisingly busy, but we claimed a large table in the bar within site of the three pool tables and half a dozen strategically located TV's.

The drinks were typically over priced, but strong and tasty.  The service was sub-par -- we asked the waitress for water three times and still had to go get it from the bar ourselves (minus one star for that).

My main compliment/complaint: the mixed berry skillet.  It tasted fabulous - a mini mixed berry pie, served piping hot with a large scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream.  The portion size was generous - two of us split it and still didn't finish it.  The problem though -- we didn't have our toothbrushes.

That's right ... the stupid thing turned our teeth purple!  Rinsing with water did no good.  The only solution was going home and brushing with strong toothpaste.

Needless to say, even for the yummy flavor, I will not subject my mouth to the Ram's mixed berry skillet again. And thus minus another star.

Frequented by college students nightly, this brewery/restaurant really caters to its clientle.

Thursday is college nights, with lots of deals on drinks and appetizers, and Sunday after 9 everything is HALF off---for the broke college student, this is too good to pass up.

Good burgers, fries, salads, and other finger foods.

We passed by the restaurant on our way to Willamette Valley.  It turned out to be a pleasant surprise.  Their portions are HUGE so the 4 of us shared 2 entrees - the seafood cobb salad and black & bleu steak sandwich.  We also had 2 of the beer sampler which included 3 oz. of 6 different beer, which was a fun start before we started on wine tasting tour.  The steak sandwich came with these fresh potato chips that were to die for.  It was well seasoned and no ketchup required.  The salad was good with the exception of the puff pastry that came with it which was tasteless and "blah" tasting.  They split the plates for us but it cost an extra $1 which we were willing to pay.  Overall it was pretty good and a pleasant surprise since we just ran into accidentally.

Just a block outside of the Willamette University campus, students (of age) and locals alike crowd this sports bar on any given night.  Sure they could use more TVs like any sports bar, but they do a good job broadcasting high profile games.  For many of the students, this place is a nice establishment to kick back and relax.  The drinks and the food won't break the wallet / purse, but practically guaranteed for a good time in Salem.

The  food is WAY overpriced and not very good. I usually just go here for large and delicious pints of craft beer!

This place was good. My father and I came for a late lunch on a rainy spring day. I had just arrived from NYC and I needed a good mean and a nice beer to welcome me back to the left coast. The service and the food were good. Nice size portion.  I will go again.

I love this place!  The beer is locally brewed by Big Horn Brewery and its the cheapest and best tasting beer in Salem--maybe because it is SO cheap, it tastes better...??  In either case, this place is 1/2 bar 1/2 restarurant.  I've only ever eaten in the bar area which has tons of booth and table seating.  There are TVs strategically located for sports fans, and a series of pool tables in the back for those who perfer a more interactive bar-going experience.  There is even a dartboard.  This is an excellent place to go either with a large group of friends or even with just one other buddy.  They have a limited selection of beers which rotate occasionaly (I'm a fan of the amber and the porter).  The food is definitely bar food but I could probably sustain myself for the rest of my god-given days on the cheese fries and cobb salad.
