Before leaving ventura and making way to SB, the ladies wanted to cruise a few more shops on main st.
So what do I do?
A. Follow them around and give my male perspective on how cute they look
B. Go across the street to Good Bar and watch some baseball with a brewski
C. Sleep in the car
D. Go to yelp search and find
closest shop in the area
About a mile down main on the left I spotted ralphs and had no prob with parking.
Pulled out my wishlist on my cell and walked in on a mission. Immediately taken back on how big this store is.
Its actually on half all comics and the other side is dedicated to other fanboy stuff like anime, gaming and etc.
Went straight to the backissue bins in the middle and found a GL issue that I thought would always be on my list of obscure titles that I would never find...
Next, went to the older back issue section which they keep behind the counters ala comic relief..but difference was the level of interaction and non-snobbiness when asking for some of the rarest of rare books.
To my surprise, they actually just pulled the box out that I asked for and let me look through them myself!!
I found over 12 books that I have needed and was happy with their pricing based on such great condition.
Returned back to the girls an hour later, with a smaller comics wish list and still had enough time for a salty dog at the bar!!
A few years ago my boyfriend did the pencils for several issues of "The Tenth Muse", a smaller independent comic book. Unfortunately I misplaced my only copies of two of them. Completely NOT expecting to find what I was looking for I went in to Ralphs comic Corner and talked to the clerk, who pulled out some old files and came up with the exact comics I needed. I must admit that this was the only time I ever purchased a comic book, but based on this experience I would have to say they have a great selection.
Short Version: Cool, cool people.
Long Version: I've never been here, but have dealt with them for special orders over the phone. The people here are really nice and helpful. I had to find a special order and found them online and called. The staff here is very knowledgeable and friendly, and more importantly, had almost everything that I was seeking. Amazing. If you have to find old comics, give them a call and I'm sure they can help you.
