Everytime we take the trip from Fairfield to old sac we have to stop by here for our meals. Being a family of 5, each person wants a different plate and they have a ton of options. My son loves the popcorn shrimp and my daughter the chicken tenders. We tried the clam chowder in a bowl for the first time yesterday and oh my goodness it was the best I ever had. I don't know what magic they put in their food but EVERYTHING is delicious. My husband always gets a regular cheeseburger but decided to try the chicken burger and almost ordered one to go. The prices are great compared to the amount of food you get. I'm sure one meal can be shared with 2 people. Quick service and super friendly staff. Tables in front are always full but more seating in the back.

Terrible food. Everything tastes frozen... defrosted, breaded it and thrown in hot oil.
No real flavor or juiciness to it.
Seating as well as the entire walkway area is just dirty... old... neglected.
Even the trash bins were overflowing.

I've been many places where I've had fish, shrimp and chips but this is by far my favorite!! The batter is light and flaky not heavy one bit. The shrimp and fish were good size portions and the clam chowder wasn't bad.
There is outdoor seating available in front of the establishment or behind it. So not to worry about not being able to find a spot to eat.
You may see a line at times but it goes by pretty quickly and you're not waiting for your food for too long but I wouldn't mind anyways it's worth the wait!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 4, 2024
Railroad Fish & Chips is a good stop if you're in the Old Sacramento area. It's a busy take-out style restaurant located near the rail lines on Front Street. There's outdoor seating along the boardwalk and in back facing the Delta King.
They offere a variety of menu items like corn dogs, egg rolls, fried shrimp, cheeseburgers, clam chowder, and fish and chips. I had a cheeseburger and fries which were both pretty good. The burger was medium-sized, cooked well done, and a little crispy on the outside. The patty had a good falvor and it came with tomato and lettuce on top. The fries were cooked perfectly with a crisp golden layer on the outside and a hot fuffy goodness in the middle. The quality of the food was pretty darn good.
The prices were pretty darn good too. They only charged me $10.99 for my meal. However, they charged and me and extra .50 cents for ranch dressing and a .50 cent to-go fee. Not that it's very much money, but they never mentioned either fee when I ordered. I was a little annoyed but the food was still good.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - 38254810Feb 21, 2024
Stumbled upon this spot to grab a quick bite before we head out after a fun walk around old sac. Ordered the catfish with onion rings $3 extra for onion rings. ($21 total); an order of regular fish n chips ($16) and a burger and fries ($12) no drinks all came to about $53. The burger was decent. The fried catfish was fried well but wish it was a little more crispy. The onion rings was light, airy, and perfectly crisp. Best onion rings so far this year! The regular cod fish n chips was perfectly fried. Overall this spot was Solid. They charge for ranch dressing. But overall the food was surprisingly better than expected and it was not greasy tasting or felt heavy after. Must try if you stop at Old Sac for a stroll.

Ok first of all I thought I made a review on this place before but I figured out I haven't last time I was here in old Sacramento. We had fish and chips combo with the clam chowder and a couple of beers. All of it was very good so this time we had the fish tacos and the fish and chips and it was excellent one of the best fish and chips that I've ever had their homemade tartar sauce is to die for and they serve beers and overall was not pricey. Service was quick ambience was seating outside, and a little cold, but the food was hot so that made up for it if you are in this place, be sure to come try it you will not be disappointed. I will put pictures up so you can see if you think.

I enjoy having a meal and beer at Railroad Fish & Chips on the waterfront of Old Sacramento. The food is always tasty. Both the river view and the Old Sacramento street view are Beautiful. As I always say. The food tastes better with a Beautiful view.
Railroad Fish & Chips is not a full-service restaurant. They are similar to most of the Fish and chips restaurants. You order the food and pay for it. They call you when the food is ready. They have some wood tables and branch chairs there for you to enjoy the food, or you can bring them next to the river to enjoy them. One way or other. They're tasteful in front of the Beautiful views.Helpful 29Thanks 3Love this 31Oh no 0 - Jul 8, 2023
My fav fish and chips place! The service is always phenomenal, super nice staff. The tables are a bit dirty since it is public, but bearable. When I go, I always get fish and chips with shrimp. Today's visit, was a bit over cooked on the outside but it didn't change the fresh texture of the seafood. I love their tartar sauce, goes so well with the food. The clam chowder was also very creamy, but I didn't much clam! I still enjoyed it though My husband got the fish tacos that aren't pictured, and he loved it!
Parking here is always hit or miss, hit today since it wasn't as busy! There is a parking garage, and is safe to park in (in my experience).Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1
