It's such a bummer that this place has such low reviews. Yes, the coffee does take a long time but I'm not in a hurry. I'm planing on camping out here and churning out my paper anyways. If you're gonna plant your caboose here for 5 hours, I think you can wait ten minutes for your coffee.

The owner is such a nice man and he always has a friendly smile. I really like it because there is so much space to study. I've been all around LA looking for awesome cafes but the Regazzi room is just down the street from SC. The only bummer is that it closes at 8PM. If it closed at 12AM, I'd be here all the time.

I would give 2 stars...but I really have been waiting for this place to succeed....All this guys needs to do is hire one good emplyee who knows how to make coffee and prepare fresh sandwiches and the shop might take off...Im holding out hope....the location is good, but it does close way too early...they need to do something fast, cause they're not making any money and I kinda been waiting to see if they were gonna go out of business already.....the tree out front doesn't have any leaves on it now...so maybe more people can see the name and find it....I remember when it first opened...ahead of Bacaro L.A....a couple of doors down ( which is kickin butt btw ), alot of people came in to give them a try....its seems that any place north of USC gets a fair shot at making it,  but if they suck,  that second chance is harder to get...Im hoping they get it together and get that second chance...

I come here pretty regularly. It's a pretty good coffee shop. The space is cute, quiet and calm.

It's been remodeled a bit, and is still working on a little things here and there, but nothing distracting.

The owner is SO nice. He's supporter of students and have let my group meet regularly. Sometimes there are little events for the community there like movie screenings, community group meetings, panels, etc.

This place, like many said, has a lot of potential. I came here to do some reading and besides traffic it's library quiet.

I ordered the iced chai and although it tasted more like the Mexican drink "horchata" it was still good, just too "cinnamon~e".

Downside: overpriced drinks. Paid 4 bucks for a 12 ounce Chai. Which is common since they seem like they are independent.

Comfortable decor and the older man who runs the place is really friendly.

This place just makes me sorry for it - like that scene in Old Yeller where the kid has to shoot his dog.

The elderly man who runs the place seems really sweet but every time I go there the coffee is worse and worse to the point where last time I just couldn't drink it at all and haven't been back since. The sandwiches have sadly gone downhill as well.

But what's really frustrating is that it's not open when it says it will be (waited 30 minutes one morning!), closes ridiculously early for a coffeeshop near a university, and the wireless is really spotty.

The space is great and has so much potential - its only competition is a single Starbucks several blocks away - someone just needs to get this guy a fairy godmother to pretty up the situation.

It's with a heavy heart that I rate Ragazzi Room 2 stars.  But seriously, this place has gone way downhill.  Crappy sandpaper sandwiches, Nature Valley granola/trail mix bars and chip bags in the displays, lukewarm bottled drinks.  I ordered a strawberry ice blend today and it really just tasted like chopped ice with strawberry syrup.... lots and LOTS of strawberry syrup, enough to create a separated pool or the stuff on the bottom of my cup, and enough to leave that acrid burn-y feeling on my tongue. And is it just me, or does it get really hot in there?!  Even when the Chinese dude assures me that the air is on... It was 107 degrees outside and inside today.

Study-wise, it's still got a lot of tables and outlets to sit down and get some work done.  But the wireless is unreliable and if you can sit through that heat in the spring/summer, then you're a trooper.  Ragazzi Room, please shape up.

My review is more like 3.5 stars...I really wish I could give it more stars because the owner is so nice, but the drinks are honestly not that great.

    Pros:
    - Plenty of tables and outlets for your laptop.
    - Really friendly staff
    - Best drink = chai tea latte
    - They have a few bookshelves on the side wall with books you can take / borrow / donate to
    - They don't blast the music and people generally keep their voices low, so it's a great place to study
    - Parking lot in the back

    Con:
    - Nothing worth eating here.  Out of great hunger, I have ordered their breakfast croissant / bagel once or twice, but the contents weren't very fresh (the turkey was a slice of questionable lunch meat).  My friend has ordered their salad a few times before and said that it was good, but way overpriced for what it is
    - Internet is always shaky
    - Coffee seems to get worse and worse each time I try it

Good study place! And me loves going out to study. It's near campus, it's quiet, and it's roomy. The place has lots of seating inside, I always see group meetings...projects, book clubs, professors meeting up. I think the lighting could be better. There are couches, which I absolutely love studying in! It's just that...you kinda fall asleep hahah.

I remember ordering some sort of pesto chicken sandwhich. Seemed microwaved and dry. NOT good, though I also imagine it being the best sandwich item on their menu =( sad. I don't remember hating the coffee, but I don't remember enjoying them either.

I live right by Ragazzi room and have tried to patronize it for years; I always like to support local businesses in the area (for instance, check out Bacaro LA right next door, which is amazing!), and it would be great to have a nice coffee shop within walking distance of my house, but honestly, Ragazzi  room has been declining for years, and it's about time this place gets shut down.

I walk in today to find the lone employee sitting at a desk, reading the paper (no attempt to even act like he's working).  I order the chicken pesto sandwich, and he disappears into the kitchen in the back.  Meanwhile, I observe the scene: the place is a hodgepodge of thrift store furniture--it's kind of quaint in a cheap, kitschy way, except that they have jammed so many chintzy tables in there you can hardly walk through the place.  It almost feels like you're in the back room of an antique store; the point of all the tables? I do not know--I have never seen more than three people in the place, ever.

Then my attention turns to the display cases.  Whoever owns this place has literally given up entirely.  Rather than muffins, scones, croissants... all the usual coffee-shop fare, the display cases contain packages of (1) Nature Valley granola bars, (2) Trail mix, (3) Cheeze-Its, and (4) Smart & Final packages of chocolate chip cookies (literally, the plastic packs you buy at the store, labels still on them).  Through the smudged glass of a mini fridge--set haphazardly on the floor--I see a lone Diet Pepsi.

The guy then shows up with my sandwich, which I take to go.  Back at my house, I find that the sandwich is inedible... I'm not talking it tasted bad... I'm talking I gagged on my first bite.  The chicken appeared to be of the pre-cooked variety (again, probably a Smart & Final purchase) and was likely sitting in a bag in Ragazzi fridge (for weeks?), only to be reheated in the microwave for my sandwich.  The only thing I was able to choke down for my $7.14 were the few stale Ruffles (probably generic brand, actually) potato chips that came on the side.

Separately, the last time I ordered a drink here (probably a year ago), I got a Chi Tea that the 'barista' had forgotten to stir the pre-made Chi powder into, so I got a tasteless cup of tepid milk, followed by a clumpy mess of gooey Chi powder at the bottom.  Yum!

All in all, Ragazzi has (1) zero customer service, (2) questionable 'ambiance,' (3) inedible food, (4) terrible drinks, and (5) the owners have literally stopped making any effort whatsoever in terms of making the place anything more than a storage facility for their old crappy furniture.

I hope someone will come in here and make this a place worth going to.  For the time being, I am not going back, and I advise that you don't either.

Its good to support independent coffee shops (ie: FUCK starbucks!!)

..But i do have to agree with Sarah K. that it would be much better if they carried fair trade coffee. (Just an idea Mr. Business Owner, you)

I've had some lovely experiences here at the Ragazzi Room.
A few friendly meetings, study groups and event planning for my political organizations during my time at USC.

But probably my fondest moment was my very first art exhibit which was organized by http://boredLA.com .

The owner is super friendly and incredibly nice (sometimes allowing frequent costumer to put their coffee on a tab)... However, be ware... this friendliness can come at a prize considering some of the business' inconsistencies such as their hours of operation and the time one has to wait for their meal or drink.

But this place is totally legit!

This is a cute little coffee shop near USC that I love coming to when I need to study or just relax a little.

Their drinks are pretty good - I love their ice blended green tea! I get that most of the time, but sometimes I'll try something new. The last thing I tried was the ice blended strawberry and banana, but that was a tad bit too sweet for me. They're reasonably priced, around $2-$4 depending on what you get, and this year, they even have a 20% discount on the USC student discount card! Score!

Another plus is that they have free wi-fi and lamps on most tables for you to study. Most people are there to study or meet for group projects, and the last time I went, I even saw a group of writing professors reading essays. But if you're not there to study, they have games, cards, and even books to keep you entertained! They also have paintings (that are also for sale I think) hung up all around the room, which are nice to look at when you're taking a break.

And if you're tired, you can always take a nap on one of their comfortable couches!

For better or for worse, a very library orientated culture for quiet collaboration or deep independent study. Free wi-fi is key.

I could definitely support more if they carried fair trade!

    Hey Mr. Ragazzi Man,
Here is a friendly little tip about customer service: If you're closing up for the night and someone took the trouble to park their car and walk into your establishment to buy a cup of coffee, why not sell it to them? I get that it's exactly 8 o' clock, but your light-up sign outside still says "Open" and the hours posted on your door are missing the hour mark (you're open till blank-thirty, how nihilist of you!).

It kind of boggles my mind that you'll turn someone away for being a minute too late, especially when all they wanted was a cup of iced coffee and had cash in hand. I guess I'll go down the street and give my money to the corporate coffee place instead...

    PRECIOUS.

I've been looking for a good place to study in this area for a while now, and I think I finally found the PERFECT place.  I wish I knew of this place as an undergrad at SC, but am still glad that I got to discover it now.

True, there is a Starbucks just a few blocks down, but this place is much more quiet and comfortable.  It definitely wins over the 'bucks for having that neighborhood cafe feel.  There is no fighting over outlets here, as there are outlets at every other table.  There are also MANY tables+chairs, so I can be selfish and use a table or two without coming off as a complete ass.  The most beautiful thing about Ragazzi is that they have FREE wi-fi (i have an obsession with free wi-fi)!  Just ask for the password while ordering you're coffee and you're good to go.

As far as the coffee, it's nothing special.  But, if it makes a difference, they do serve their beverages in actual mugs.  I haven't tried the food yet, but there aren't many choices.  Also, I was looking for these desserts that my fellow yelpers were talking about, but I couldn't find any.  Just a few saran wrapped croissants and one piece of apple pie.

I'm here at 10 in the morning on a weekday, and there are only three other people here with me.  loves it.

    I heart The Ragazzi Room.

As a USC student that gets tired with the 1, overcrowded Starbucks near campus, the Ragazzi Room is an awesome place to grab a cappuccino, flop onto a couch or at a table, and study, chat, or play on the internet.  The vibe is old, comfortable, eclectic.  There is local artists artwork on the walls, shelves of board games, and a hodgepodge of furniture.

If you pay or buy any drink/food for $3 you can connect to the wireless.  I always get coffee which I think is better than Starbucks.  I've had a muffin as well which is decent but I didn't like the iced tea.  The chill background music mingling with the whiz of the espresso machine makes this coffee house relaxing and welcoming.  The owner is also very friendly and always greets with a smile.

The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that the actual food (sandwiches, pasta...) are sub par and random.  There is a 50 cent charge for using your credit card on purchases under $3... probably because thats what it costs to use the internet.  Also, I wish there were more outlets for computers because 1 Jackass takes up both plugs for a table lamp and a computer when 3 tables are competing for that outlet.

I've been here twice. Great place for studying. It's comfortable but not too comfortable to fall asleep. They have great coffee for a decent price. One of the coffee drinks is called "All-Nighter." That one has three shots of espresso.. CRAZY. I think most people who go go for the purpose of studying or a group meeting. It seems very academic oriented.. haha. Which is great because it's pretty close by campus, but not too close where everyone goes and makes it super loud.

They have paintings, I guess by students/amateur artists, on the walls. I love looking at them. Some of them are really trippy. They have a price tag on them so I'm guessing they're all for sale.

The decor of the place is really cute. Enough tables and chairs and even two couches. Really.. it's a good cafe to study at.

Yes, I know that there's a Starbucks down the street that's open late too. Yes, parking is easier to find at that Starbucks. Yes, its also closer to campus but a short bike ride or drive down to Ragazzi is worth it.

Ragazzi room is a quaint little coffee shop down Hoover a mile or 2 away from USC. It's open late especially during midterms and finals. They have a small menu of food items in addition to their coffee and teas. They also have comfy couches, board games, and books scattered throughout. They also have a friendly staff who welcome those new to coffee and might need a recommendation on what to get. I like that they put your coffee in those huge mugs just like on "Friends".  So what makes it better than the Starbucks down the street?. That's just it. Its not Starbucks.

Great place to study. There are lamps and spacious tables. The place looks a bit rundown, but it's acceptable. They have an 'all-nighter' drink that has helped to keep studying on little sleep. (3 shots of espresso!).
It's independently run by a family and often times there is only one or two people working, so service can be slow.
If you want to stay and study, this isn't really a problem. But if you want fast service you might be frustrated.

Most sandwiches and salads are $5-6.

The wifi can be a bit shoddy. I've been here 3 times and each time the wifi went down at some point, only to pop back up 30 minutes to an hour later. If you are wifi-dependent, this can be frustrating. But overall, it's a nice study cafe -- a tough find in South LA!

They are open from 9 AM to 9PM, 7 days a week.

I tend to judge my coffee houses by their chai tea lattes since I'm not a coffee drinker.  And I rate this place as awesome.  It was nice and warm, sweet, but not too sweet, and it had the most amazing froth on top of it.

People often complain how the area around USC doesn't have a lot to offer as far as eateries.  This place is one of the exceptions.  Comfortable setting (very cute, homey, indie coffee shop), tons of seating, and even a couch if you're lucky enough to nab it.

I wish they were open later (I think it's til 9:30ish), but beggars can't be choosers.

I also don't tend to bring my laptop to coffee shops, but I do know they have free wi-fi if you purchase something (might have to be over $3) and I also here there are many outlets.

I haven't had their food in a long time, but I do remember it being tasty, if not a little pricey.  But still, nice to know you have some real lunch options here.

It is too bad USC doesn't have more spots like this because Ragazzi Room could benefit from some healthy competition. The setting is wonderful - especially the exposed brick walls and hardwood floors. The owner/employees are a little apathetic but hey, they've been working here for years - I guess they know what they're doing. Coffee is standard, most lunch items are a little sub-par however. The apple-brie sandwich is great though, and I'm not one to order vegetarian sandwiches. Come here to study as an alternative to the UV Starbucks which is buckwild at all hours of the day.

Cute USC staple that needs to step up its game.

I went on a Sunday afternoon and the place was quiet and not very busy, so it was a little slice of heaven.  I plunked myself on the couch and spent 3 hours there unmolested.  If I lived closer to the place, I would hang out every other day, because it is a good day place to write.

The barista made my cafe mocha too sweet and the cookies were miniscule, so I don't know about the food.  The desserts in the case look decent, but nothing to really drool over.  If I go back, it will definitely be just to hang out, not because the food is crave-alicious.  The off-street parking was also pretty easy to find that day.

The only drawback: you need to ask for a key for the bathroom, which is never fun, especially for those of us with OCD who don't want to touch a filthy key when there are no guarantees that any of the last 50 people have washed their hands.

PLEASE HIRE MORE PEOPLE TO HELP. i am tired of waiting in line for 20 minutes for a bland sandwich. the poor guy who works there is fantastic, but struggles on his own with no help. i do wish, however, that his girlfriend who shoulds up everyday would stop giggling so loudly. vaguely obnoxious to be that loud in such a quiet place.

i still love it, though. and their chicken pot pie is pretty tasty.

    -----------------------------------

I love this place. If you're a USC student looking for a nice, quiet place to study, this is it.  I almost don't want to review it because I'm scared more people will start coming here.

The only drawback is the bathroom key: ew, lots of germs. and it's sooooooo messy, all the time. i feel like im contracting at least two different diseases everytime i'm there.

Lots and lots of empty tables for you to sit and study at. Free WIFI! Great drinks (try the mocha banana, it's DELICIOUS) and the all-nighter really will keep you up all night long. The cakes are okay, not fabulous. The chicken pesto is actually pretty good too.

I love this place because it's QUIET. You can actually work. :) I have no idea how they keep it running, it seems like they ahve very few customers, it's that quiet. But so cute and charming inside :)

CC Charges less than $10 = 50 cent charge.

Lots of parking: street and in the back, for free. Sweet!

Usually this place is good, but I must rant about my lunch here today.

The chicken in their chicken pesto sandwich is FAKE. It's like that microwave crap. And the guy sliced the chicken "breast" in half..so it was only a very thin layer of chicken in my sandwich. Hmph. Service was painfully slow. I think only the owner was there today.

Also, the place is currently a mess..desks and crap is strewn everywhere, and there is hardly any food in their display cases..which was really weird. The vibe was just all off today, I would avoid this place during the day and for any type of food.

Bottom line: this place was good when they were open late, and you could get a coffee drink (which were really good) and study or just hang out with people.

Now that this place closes at 8pm everyday...I don't know how they are going to survive.

You can't really screw up a coffee shop. You throw some comfy chairs in with some tables, put some art on the wall, hook up your espresso machine and wi-fi, hire some college students, and - voilà! - coffee shop.

That said, other than being right around the corner from my house, there's nothing particularly spectacular about the Ragazzi Room. Standard prices  on drinks, overpriced tasteless food, never too crowded to sit and get work done, quiet - you know, a coffee shop. You've been to coffee shops, you know what I'm talking about.

This place would get four stars, because it's abnormally big (which is cool) and also houses some cool art / music shows sometimes, but really the food is so bad I can't get over it.

I was a regular, if unwilling, patron of this place in the year I lived in the area.  It should be a fantastic hangout but it's minuses overwhelm it's potential.

Pros: "free" internet (read Cons).  It's really cute and homey feeling with brick and original, if not inspired, art work.  Easy parking, lot in back.  Street parking if that's full, which I've never seen.  Spacious, lots of seating.  You'll have no trouble finding a table to study or seat a group of friends.  Futon-sofa (if you're not picky about crumbs &stains).

The Con: 1) The "free" internet really is a con, as in a swindle.  It's "free" with a $3 purchase.  But guess what, coffee is $2.50.  Pretty expensive for a cup 'o joe yet not enough to buy your "free" internet so you'll have to buy a sandwich for $7.

More Cons:  Some of the sandwiches are pretty good but they often don't have the ingredients and they don't toast the bread even when the contents are warm.  Several times they don't even have all the condiments for coffee (e.g. at different times they've been out of Splenda or Half & Half).  THE COFFEE IS REGULARLY LUKE WARM because they make large quantities and keep it in containers that do not keep it hot.  At least, that is how they explained it to me before they offered to MICROWAVE MY COFFEE.  Most coffeeshops would offer to brew a new batch if the last one is old.  But this huge space will often have only 1 or 2 customers at a time.  (Read this is not the place to come to meet people).  Lastly, they violate their credit card contracts by adding a .50 charge if you use credit or debit (the minimum is high).

It is usual for one of the above problems to occur upon each visit.  However, one time I bought a sandwich and cup of coffee and then logged on to their rather expensive "free internet".  Then the server came over to tell me they didn't have the ingredients for the sandwich I wanted.  Nothing else appealed to me so I requested a refund.  He gave it to me with a big smile then changed the internet password to block me.  After all, I'd only paid $2.50 for my tepid cup of coffee.  When I pointed this out to him he said sorry with a big smile.  I requested another refund and never returned.

this is a nice, quiet place to read, study, or meet with friends. I like the green tea latte here a lot.  for food the chicken pesto sandwhich is really good and I the egg, cheese, ham on a croissant is a good choice as well.

Been coming here a few times now, just because it is not as packed as Starbucks a couple of blocks away. You can have a good conversation here and the coffee is not bad either. They have been changing some of the furniture, and it looks way better. BTW did you know they used this storefront location for a VW comercial? Well, trivia info to the side, I guess they are doing some re-arranging slash upgrading here? but I was kinds sad that they did not have pastry anymore. I felt tonight satisfying my sweet tooth with some cheesecake. We'll see in a couple of days or weeks how
the changes develop. As for now 3 stars for the Ragazzi Room.

This is a little hidden gem for SC students who are looking to study, chill out, meet up with friends, or grabb some coffee and bite to eat (great pastries)

The owver is cool as hell as he let us hold fund-raising events here for our campus organization.

    It's more spacious than Starbucks.

I've adopted this as my pre-class stop for the nights when I've a little time to kill before my classes off-campus at USC.

Free wi-fi is the main draw, but a full espresso bar serving Lavazza coffee (though I don't drink it I hear it's the stuff) and a really yummy cuppa chai as well as salads and panini to fill me up, it's the perfect pre-class stop!

Ragazzi Room is a student hangout, and that is both the best and the worst of it.  If you want a place to study, it's OK -- they don't seem to mind if you sit forever with a cup of coffee and a laptop or book.  It isn't great because the lighting isn't great.

If you are looking for a place to eat, it's best for desserts and coffee.  Salads here and entrees were OK but not great.

Try the Mocha Blanco, you won't regret it. Most of the coffee concoctions are pretty good. The pastries themselves are average, but their food is actually pretty good, including their sandwiches. Avoid this place during finals, which is early December and late to mid-April. USC students cram themselves in with piles of books and huddle around tables for hours sorting out semester long projects. In other words, go to this place, but don't stick around too long, college students can be very annoying, especially the 'SC type.

Good: tasty coffee, tasty sandwiches, ample parking in lot

Bad: students hog tables, poor music choice, a bit pricey.

I came to the Ragazzi Room on a whim, looking for a place where I can get work done. Basically, a coffee shop with decent drinks, quiet, and wireless for the drink.

I ordered a cappucino-- iced. In this warm LA summer, a cold drink is all I want when I decide to sit down and get a hefty load of writing done. The sweet girl behind the counter didn't really seem like she understood this concept, so I told her just put the cappucino over ice. She got it and the drink is decent. It tastes a bit watered down, but I like my coffee really full. The taste of the coffee is really good. It's not sweet. It's just nice.

I, and a couple others are sitting here working on our own things. There is also a group of teenage girls, obviously working on heir homework together. This is a really cute space!

Other people were right when they described this as just a coffee shop. It's got decent drinks, internet, and a soothing environment. Look, I've typed this all since I've sat down!

I love this place but it seems that every time I try to go there, they're closed.  The hours on the door say "__:30 to late night"
    WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?!

Today, though, I approached the door and all I saw was a chair with a sign that said "Be back by 5." Its 11am.

How are they still in business?

Today's visit is a total disappointment.  The decoration of the store is nice.

But the au lait was not good, and the lamp did not lit because the owner has not put a bulb.
On top of it, when i asked for the lid for the tea to take out, the lid was filthy and I told the owner to take  a look himself.
He was kind of unapologetic and i was pissed off.

Never want to come back again, I used to like it but no more.
    Plus, parking can be hard.

I drive all the way across town here just to get their Chai tea. Cute cafe, parking in the back, free wifi. What more can you ask.

I really like this place! :) It's a great place to study (wi-fi!) or grab a cup of coffee with some friends for a chat. It's very cozy and comfortable~ perfect for a rainy day! There's plenty of seating, and a pretty good drink and food selection. The only slightly bad thing is that there's minimal parking--only meters outside. But overall, it's definitely better than the overcrowded, noisy, small Starbucks at the UV!

this cozy cafe has all sorts of chairs for your ass:  two-seater bench, futon-couch, bar stool, wooden, vinyl with a wooden back, patio/metal, rattan - whatever your rump desires.

free wi-fi, all sorts of hot and ice blended coffee drinks (though the dessert/pastry counter looks meager on an early sunday afternoon.   the only thing to watch out for is the hacker sitting next to you looking at what people are surfing at the moment.

i wish i knew of this place when i was a student, though it is a little dim on the lights and you would very well fall asleep and stay that way until your leg and ass go numb.

    see pics!
