It was my birthday weekend & my Dad chose to give me the best gift a girl could receive!
OHIO STATE FOOTBALL TICKETS!
Yes. That is what I said. The best gift a girl could receive. Okay--well to this girl it is the best gift.
We wanted to stay at a hotel that was near the game, but not totally downtown Bloomington. The traffic would be so bad, so we thought staying in Indianapolis would be fun. And it was! This hotel was very accommodating. The front desk when I called to double check if our reservation went through from booking online [http://www.hotels.com] was very friendly & gave me all the information I needed. The rooms were clean a large. The double beds even came with the "Sleep by Numbers" control! My Dad had wayyy too much fun going up and down with the settings.
The best part is that when we got to the hotel, checked in & while walking down the hallway the entire OSU football team came out of the conference room. Yes. I was in a total daze. I got to meet some of the players. It was truly a dream come true for me because I've been a fan since I was 10 years old. Hey if this hotel is good enough for the best college football team in the nation--then it is definitely good enough for you & me!
The Indy Airport area is in transition now that the (fabulous) new terminal has been opened.
This hotel is right next to the OLD terminal, and is about 5 miles from the new terminal. They provide a free shuttle service (it is of course a good idea to tip the driver a buck a bag). If you don't have a car it is hard to find a place to eat outside the hotel. (Yelp ought to add Indianapolis Airport as a searchable neighborhood...). They took us downtown to our specific destination the next morning -- a big savings of time and money.
This is a hotel which can hold large meetings. On either end of the meeting space are residential towers. On the far side, there is the old three story tower. Near the front desk and restaurant is the newer six story tower.
The far tower is where I stayed so I can't comment on the other. It is only a two or 2.5 star at best. It is quite old, but in decent shape overall. The bedding was in good condition with washable-cover duvets. They have sleep number beds, but you can't adjust the sleep number.
The bathroom is quite aged and probably the room's worst feature. It is small with a small tub. The tiles have been heavily painted and the paint is starting to let go.
Still, I got the room on Priceline and I'm happy with what I got. If I had paid rack rate, I'd be more upset about it.
The bar is pretty good and has some happy hour specials like sliders. I'm not able to tell you what the specials are, because they have no menu. just a sign behind the bar. I think the kitchen closes at ten. If you're flying in from the west coast late in the day, you might be better off to eat at one of the nice places in the new terminal.
I ate in the restaurant and I can tell you with authority to order the burger! It is excellently prepared and delicious on a high quality bun. I had fruit cup instead of fries, expected a cup of thawed honeydew, but instead got a beautiful cup of high quality berries and fresh sliced fruit.
I had a cream of vegetable soup also and it appeared to be home made.
A nice feature of the hotel is that down by the restaurant they have a vending machine with ice cream treats and frozen entrees of decent quality in case you get there after hours. More hotels should offer this! I think they do this because a lot of pilots stay here.
The staff at the hotel were exceedingly friendly and took good care of us. I will probably stay here again, as the quality of the staff gains them a star -- I can put up with a rather crummy room for service like this.
