3 reviews for Radisson Hotel
On our way up to the cabin in Canada we took the route through Fargo and decided to stay the night before we continued on. The Radisson caught our eye, well because it is the tallest building in Fargo. Enter we do and are greeted very nicely by the guy at the front desk. After telling him what kind of accommodation we want he offered us a choice of the Versailles or Oriental Suite. We chose the French one. On entering our "suite" we just started laughing. Nothing and I mean nothing resembled Versailles let along France. I guess they figured if they used old salvation army furniture it might pass for french antiques. It also has a jetted tub in the room it self and it reminded me of someplace the natives on a island might have used to cook the white folk in. It was all just too funny. Other than that it was fine everything worked and the view was, well a view.
We almost went down to ask to see the Oriental Suite too just for kicks, but we went to dinner instead.
I stayed here on a business function and it was pretty nice and accomodating for the business function we had. The rooms were comfortable and the sleep number beds were amazing. The price was about right I guess, but the downtown of this sleepy ghost town, was desolate and scary. There is nothing around this spot and if you visit, be sure to venture outside town, because you wont find much around the area. The highlight of the place was the room service which was priced cheap. The staff was very friendly and the catering was great for our function. But outide the walls, the American Legion is about the best thing this old '50s downtown has to offer. I felt like I was in an episode of Leave it to Beaver. Stay in this town for a night, but then get out..its boring. They could lower the price of this place to something lower since this isn't exactly downtown New York!
I give it 3 stars and this is why..
The hotel itself was nice enough. We went back for a funeral and the extended family was very impressed when they found out we were staying at the Radisson. I guess it's one of the nicer Fargo hotels. Rooms were clean and comfortable for the most part. They have the sleep number beds there so it was fun to try them out, which I liked. They're a bit noisy when you blow them up though. I'm sure SN beds come in different models; hopefully the other models are quieter.
The rates were cheap, cheap, cheap, yes they gave us a discount because we were there for a funeral but I think we paid $45.00 a night per person double occ. Here are the negatives; the food and cocktails SUCKED big time. Have you ever heard of a hotel bar that doesn't have Bacardi dark?? Now you have. I don't mean they ran out, they don't stock it!!...We just wanted to hoist one to our deceased mom, a simple rum and Coke was impossible. The other drinks we ordered were pretty bad too. Surprisingly the mojitos weren't all that bad, though the bartender (who had bartended in Seattle for a time) did have to go to the kitchen to scare up some mint. Martini's, I shouldn't have to remind the bartender to chill the glasses, should I? I guess living so close to San Francisco I'm spoiled with all the great restaurants and bars...
