5 stars?

This deserves it though.  Like others have said, whether you're a tourist or a local, this pig is the place to meet.

My parents and their friends (filipinos btw) are terrible when it comes to giving directions or taking directions.  We all split up and I told them over and over, "MEET AT THE  PIG! OK?!"  Guess what?  They actually met at the pig!  Amazing.  They understood without getting lost.  That's about as good as it gets in my book.

Rachel is SUCH a celeb. She's pretty much made for people to pose atop her for photos ... when else will you get the chance to ride a pig?

Best hours to get photos: Late at night! I've got a few hilarious late night photos of Rachel trying to buck me off after paying a visit to Il Bistro (just downstairs.)

Rachel is probably one of the biggest stars at the Pike Place Market so she definitely deserves 5 stars.  There was a line when I was there to take a picture with the pig.  She's not only a hit among kids, but also adults.

Rachel has never disappointed me.

The market can be an absolute zoo of rude tourists and complaining locals and I can trust that Rachel will be stoically standing there waiting for another round of paparazzi flashes and taking it all in stride.

We always bring her some loose change too.  Though it's sad that most people don't know she really is a piggy bank to support the market.  And even sadder that they still won't offer her a quarter after learning that fact and taking a ride.  You know pigs bite right?

Rachel is so many things to so many people. She's a meeting place, a veritable compass for pike place market used frequently for giving directions, a piggy bank, earning money for the market foundation, a willing model to accompany you in the necessary touristy pictures, and a familiar face in the ever changing crowd of tourist visitors to the market.
Fun facts about Rachel? She was named after a real pig, (Rachel!) who won first prize in the island country fair on Whidbey island in 1985. Her favorite holiday is national pig day on March 1st, so be sure to drop by and wish her a happy one. While you're there, drop in some change to benefit the market--her job, after all, is to bring in the bacon.

Lets go to the market...meet ya at the pig. Rachel is the mascot of the pike place market. She never gets tired of strangers taking pictures of her. She does more rides than a hooker on 99.

Next time your down there..slip old rachel some coin..and make her squeal like a pig!!!!

Dear Rachel,

I am writing to apologize for my behavior on the 30th of December.  We haven't seen each other since that night and I feel like you were really quiet while we were together.  I humped you without asking.  Hell, without even offering to buy you a drink.  I hope we can still be friends!

Best Regards,

Xav H

Did you know that Rachel the pig is a real-life piggy bank that brings in a whooping $6,000-$9,000 a year in currency from all over the world?

It's the cutest little thing! Well... I wouldn't call it little, but it's cute nevertheless. I put in a dollar in it, yes, It's a giant piggy bank! Literally! I wonder where the money goes to...

Ahhh.... Rachel... :)

There's just something totally adorable about rubbing a bronze piggy and hopping on her back for a quick photo op! I'm surprised there isn't an entry for her in Yelp considering the thousands of tourists who stop by and climb abroad her piggy back for a quick polaroid.

Everytime I stop into Pike Place ever since I was a tot, I've had my customary "atop Rachel" picture taken... Needless to say, I have a nice timeline put together of me "growing up!"

She's the beloved mascot of Pike Place... so don't forget to stop by to rub her piggy snout for good luck and empty out some heavy change. She's the piggy bank for the Market Foundation. :)

A couple years ago, they had a Pigs on Parade and had artists decorate fiber glass Rachel Replicas which were then placed all over Seattle. Luckily I was in town and we spent a good 3 days hiking all over so I could get pictures of most of the piggies!

A must see - just say "Hi" to the pig. Take a picture with it (a must!) and then nicely put some $$$$ in. From what I heard at Pike's Place is that yes she is the mascot and the money that goes in it goes towards the funding of the school there and renovations etc - especially as those old stones along the road get broken they'll go fix 'em individually to provide that ole' school charm. So to keeping traditions alive... $$ to the pig.
