Sigh...waxing. It's one of the necessary evils that we have to endure.
I have sensitive skin so waxing has always been a little extra painful for me and more often than not it included skin loss. Yeouch!! Rachael's Spa uses a wax that sticks only to the hair and not the skin. My skin was a lot less irritated than it has been with past waxings. Also, the wax smells like honey and I like that.
I've always found Rachael to be very nice, friendly, and always great to talk to. Plus, her waxing is very affordable!
After reading all the rave reviews on here, I just HAD to go to Rachael. And here's what I have summed up, after 3 brazilian visits...
She's good. Not amazing, not great, but a solid good. I'm possibly a little OCD, but when you get a wax in 15 minutes, it looks like you got a wax in 15 minutes. There's no touch-up tweezing (which I promptly do when I get home), and the strip is typically not-so-symmetrical. Is this TMI? We ARE talking about Brazilians here...
That being said, it's $35. And she does use the good wax, but I've never had someone not use the good wax, so that doesn't mean that much to me. I will likely keep going to her until I stumble upon something better, and price comparable.
Meh.
There's a discount for first-timers? Really? Hmmm.... I paid full price. And she knew I was a new client because she asked me when I made the appointment.
I was 10 minutes late and the first words out of her mouth were, "Jenn? YOU. ARE. LATE." Well, nice to meet you too. She then proceeded to turn on her heel and motioned for me to follow her back to her room. I chased after her and apologized; I tried to explain the bus was running late. I was sincere. She ignored me. Great, the chick giving me a Brazilian is now pissed as hell at me.
When we got into the room she said, "Get ready." And turned her back. Oh, you mean I should change? Kind of unprofessional, in my opinion. (Other technicians have left the room at this point. Kind of like a doctor would. They knock on the door a minute or two later and come back in when you are ready.)
She made some small talk and was pleasant the rest of the visit but she didn't redeem herself.
The waxing? Meh. Not that great.
I tried her based on her reviews as well as the fact that she is reasonably priced. I should have stayed with the place I usually go to, regardless of the cost. You get what you pay for.
Found Rachael through Time Out Chicago--and am so very glad I did. She will do a great job at whatever she offers--and without taking you to the cleaners at the same time. With a decidedly non upscale ambiance, she can afford to offer the best for less than the run of the mill at the upscale spas. Without hesitation would recommend her.

I've tried several places in the city, and luckily found some great waxers. Love them all, but it makes me a little sick each time I shell out 70-ish dollars for pain.
Rachael is awesome. I was jumpier than usual, but she's a pro. Plus...as a new client, my wax was only $25. Seriously...I mean, seriously. Hard wax is a must, and she uses it with the quickness of strip wax. She's so good.
Also had her do my brows, and they're great. I usually break out in between my eyebrows when I have them waxed, and they're not even red today.
Check her out! Or don't....or she'll raise her prices! JK.
Meh. My second visit wasn't as stellar as the first. Not so thorough, not so, uh, neat. Second visit is $35 - still a fantastic price, but for not being super excited about how my ladyparts look, I'm not so sure the price makes it a good deal for me.
I cheated on Rachael when I was in Portland...and I am secretly glad I did.

I have followed Rachel from three others salons. She is the best. She always makes me feel comfortable, which is good seeing as that she is usually pouring hotwax on me or removing the gunk from my pores. She does a great job with waxing and facials. I just adore her, enough said.
Rachael's was recommended to me by another Yelper, Colleen, after I had reviewed a horrible waxing experience I had elsewhere in the city. Colleen, thanks again for steering me here!
Rachael did an excellent job on my wacky eyebrows. The wax smelled awesome, too, by the way. Made the room smell like honey. Rachael talked with me first and went over the quirks of my eyebrows before starting, something I really appreciated. I will definitely go back again.
Rachael was fantastic. I was dreading trying out a new waxer, after leaving my beloved and trusted Charmaine behind in London. Yelp to the rescue....
I'd not tried hard wax before but it did the job, so that's fine. It wasn't not painful, but it wasn't agony, I've had worse. Rachael was super quick, chatty and professional. It was also a bargain since I got the new client 50% discount - but would happily pay full price.

So getting a Brazillian is painful. This fact cannot be avoided. BUT it can be less painful, less awkward, and some estheticians are better than others. Rachel is amazing. She made me feel comfortable and talked me through everything so you knew when it was going to be extra-hurty. And, since I have the world's most sensitive skin, its great that she uses hard wax. This is apparently better than other forms, which she explained, since it only sticks to the hair and not the skin. She also left me with some tips to help with my sensitive skin afterwards.
You know, this isn't exactly the most modest experience a girl will have, so she does a great job of making you feel comfortable, despite the fact that she's seeing parts of you that most people don't see! It was quick, like 20min quick, and I have already forgotten the pain. Go to her! you won't regret it! I am very pleased with her and the results, so she is highly highly recommended. Also, your first time is 1/2 off, so it was $17.50. Not too shabby. Even at full price, its $35, which is like half of what you'd pay at most other places. I have already booked my next appointment!
Today was my first brazilian.. ever! It literally took 10 minutes. 10 very painful minutes!! Very!! Immediately after, I called my friend and told her I feel as though I have been raped. I have to admit, it was all worth it!
Rachael is very pleasant and we chatted and joked throughout the whole session. She only charges $25 for new customers; I don't think you can beat that! If you are brave enough for that kinda thing (not sure if I am anymore), I recommend Rachael highly!!
I don't think there's anything worse than getting a Brazilian wax. But somehow, Rachael makes it a breeze!
I'd gotten a wax done before, and not only did it take forever, it left me red for a few days. After reading some reviews on Yelp, I decided to give Rachael a shot. She was friendly and immediately put me at ease. We chatted while she did my wax, and it was over in less than 20 minutes. The hard wax is fantastic and while the process wasn't painless, it really wasn't bad at all. The best part was there was NO redness the next day!
She gave me 50% off since I was a new client, which is a ridiculous deal. She's totally affordable anyway - only $35! Considering most places charge close to $50 and use the sott wax (OW!), I'm sticking with Rachael!
This may be the end of the road for me ...
Or at least the end of this list. I think that I have finally found "my" Brazilian place.
Rachael is great. She's sweet, nice and totally flexible. I was totally having a girl moment today going back and forth on my appointments after thinking that I was late for my appointment when I actually wasn't. And then I arrived early and she was still able to accommodate me.
She was FAST. Hard wax ... which is fine ... and I was in and out the fastest I have ever been. And, it was relatively painless. I had actually forgotten to take two aspirin, but it didn't matter. I don't know if it was because she was so fast or because we were comfortably chatting, but stick rip stick rip stick rip and she was like, okay, turn over!!!
And the price. Oh man. $17.50 because I was a first time customer but it's regularly only $35. Done and done.
I would highly recommend Rachael to anyone looking for a great, economic Brazilian.
I really wanted to like this place more. Rachael was really nice and made me feel comfortable; however, after my waxing, I noticed (when I got home) that she missed a few spots/patches - like an unacceptable amount. The new client special/prices are great, but I prefer not to have left over patches.
Rachael gets another star because after my review she contacted me the next day and offered me a discount to give her another try. So props to her for taking that step to make it right!

Once again, yelp has sent me in the right direction. Went here yesterday to clean up the nether regions and I was thoroughly impressed. Rachel was the consummate professional. Very quick and efficient. Talks you through so you know when the extra sensitive spots are up next. Ladies, let's face it. Pulling hair out of anywhere isn't fun, but the lady parts are that much worse. Putting that into consideration, this was the least painful I've ever had. Top it off by the fact that I stepped foot in the door at 3:00 and was back in my car at 3:17 and only out $35 (which included a $10 tip) I won't be going anywhere else for my girly grooming.
I found Rachael's Spa through Yelpers, and decided it would be a good place to get my first brazilian, since it seemed significantly cheaper than other places. Rachael was great, she was fast and let me know the really painful spots. It hurt, but the hurt was temporary. I knocked off a star because I still have a good amount of random hairs left and there was wax left on me that stuck horribly to my panties. Also, when I got home I realized I had bled a little. But since it was my first time I assume all this is all normal. Overall, an okay first experience.
I could rant and rave all day about Rachael. I just love the girl. And considering she subjects me to what used to be one of the most painful beauty procedures I know, that says a lot.
So, like many others, I visit Rachael for the sensitive Brazilian Wax and her service is like no other. It's no exaggeration that you're in and out in 10 minutes. Thanks to the hard wax she uses, it's as painless as can be, considering the region.
She's always having specials and, even when she isn't, her waxes are the most affordable you'll find in the city. If it's your first, second, or 100th wax, I definitely recommend her!
Wow, I'm impressed! I have been getting brazilian's for years. Although I have had some great experiences with professionals who provide a seemingly painless service (only because they are good at what they do), nothing compares to my experience with Rachel. It might not be a fancy shmancy spa with jacuzzi's and slippers, it did exactly what I needed, quick, almost painless (least amount of pain I've EVER felt), and comfortable. To top it off, MUCH more affordable!!!
awesome! having had brazilians done before, this was such a cheap and quick (under 20 minutes!!) place to go for the same results. i'll be going back.
i really don't have any criticisms, but i could see how a first-timer might feel a little bit uncomfortable. in prior experiences, the esthetician would leave the room to allow me to get undressed / dressed, but with rachael, she's got this tiny room in the back of a salon, and you both go in there together and get right to business. (that sounds so dirty) in any case, it just means you're out of there even quicker! i'm not complaining.
Completely agree with all the raves! If you want a good and inexpensive Brazilian (or other waxing job), look no further.
YES YES YES she is that good. I just got back from my appointment with Rachael for a Brazilian. This was my first time ever jumping into the Brazilian waxing crowd. I was so nervous but she was great. I was in and out within 20 minutes. It is true about not having nearly any pain. I think there was 2 moments where it was a little cringe but that's it. Didn't hurt at all!! I will be going to her from now on. Already booked my next appointment as well and I love that first timers get waxed for $17.50!! seriously try it you will be hooked. She was so nice and I never felt uncomfortable.
Saw the Yelp deal and figured - let's try a brazillian before my trip to Miami! Rachael was great.. explained everything to a first timer and it wasn't so bad. :) Also, the prices are affordable and she gets you in and out in 15 minutes.
I followed Rachael from one salon to another and was so excited when she started her own salon. She is fantastic. I recommend her to all my friends.
