I had an awesome time here. The bartender was very generous in allowing me to try eight different beer samples. I went with the Milk Stout, which was very good. I ended up taking home a growler full of the Vanilla Cream Ale. I drank half of it and used the other half for a chicken marinade.
I ordered a BBQ chicken pizza which was a 7/10. The food here didn't seem like anything special as I looked at the menu.
The beer here was fantastic. So was the atmosphere. Parking was not a problem during a weeknight, either. I parked right out front and did not have to wait for a seat inside of the brewery.
Decent stop for lunch, but frankly would rather go to Django's next door for a burger or steak.
Whenever I travel to Des Moines, this is one of the places I usually end up eating. When you stay downtown, there's little that's open later on (Centro, Django, RRBC) - that's about it.
I'm a big fan of the burger with bleu cheese - medium rare - with the cucumber salad. Props to Raccoon River for interesting, atypical sides with their sandwiches. The wings are pretty good, too.
I'm not sure why Des Moines expects a lot culinary-wise out of a brewery. This place has several good bar staples, and enough twist on those staples to keep it interesting. It's a big place and can accommodate large groups, the staff is almost always terrifically friendly (if a bit slow).
I found this place on google maps and tried it on a whim when I was staying in downtown Des Moines. I had the Yankee Style Pot Roast, which was just like the kind my grandma makes... I loved it.
Neither the menu nor the prices were what I was expecting from a Brewery, but I enjoyed the meal and would definitely go back and recommend it.
This place has a nice selection of fresh brews . 5 that you can sample all the time and variety of seasonal brews. They also have excellent food to accompany your favorite tap brew.
The food selection is fairly limited, but what they do offer is very tasty. The brew their own beer and I have had them all. I am a Guinness man so the stout is what I like the best. If you want some great fried bar food though this is the place for you!
A lot of people really like Raccoon River, but I'd say it's overrated. The food is limited and nothing I've had has been that great. The big draw is it has great atmosphere and some good local bands occasionally play.
It's all right food wise. My significant other is partial to their ribs. Their Rattlesnake pasta is not anything to brag about. I love their Vanilla Creme Ale, it reminds me of A & W Cream soda! It does have a great atmosphere....
