Maybe 3.5 stars and in my opinion, not as good food or service-wise as the Court Avenue Brewing Company.
I stopped in here for dinner before I had to pick up Gayle from DSM later in the evening. Downtown Des Moines had pretty much cleared out and parking was a snap. The restaurant itself is big and handsome, put without the patio which is under renovation.
I was seated immediately in the front and was well served by a very helpful and friendly wait person. However, service was a little slow at the time of initial ordering and from the kitchen. My grilled chicken sandwich (with Blue Cheese) was delicious, but the fries were a little overdone and not really crisp. The very hoppy IPA was very good.
It was all very filling and for the money, the Racoon River Brewing Company a good value. But what really hit the spot was the subsequent walk around Gray's lake to work it off.
We were in Des Moines for a convention and walked to Raccoon River Brewing. The Octoberfest beer was the finest I've ever tasted. The waitress was fantastic and gave excellent service. Dinner and desert were great. No complaints at all.
Very dependable establishment, The food has never disappointed! the service has always been great and the drinks never fail!
Great beer, drinks, and food - the home-made hot sauce for the Chicken Wings is friggin' awesome! I also highly reccomend the Maytag Blue Cheese Salad - heck, you are in Iowa - the Maytag better be happening - and it is!
Great service, often live music, great pool tables upstairs.
Right downtown close to the hotels, etc.
We only had a quick beer here, but I thought this was a cute little brewery right in the heart of downtown Des Moines. They brew their own beers, and I really enjoyed the 3 I sampled. My favorite was the vanilla cream ale - the vanilla was a nice finish at the end. The Red was fantastic too. Hopefully next time we'll have a bite to eat here and be able to sample some more of their brews!
