I try to support Westwood businesses because (a) I heard that rent is ridiculously expensive, and well, (b) I spend most of my waking hours in Westwood and want something good and convenient.

How stupid of me...convenient in Westwood?! It's a joke. Parking is a total nightmare and it takes a miracle to find a spot. Anyhoo, lucky for me, I found a spot right before going to work, drove right up.

I was disappointed with my apple crisp (aka fritter). It was so, so, so sticky sweet...it hurt. Plus, $2.25?! When did donuts like this get so expensive? I'd rather treat myself to a cherry tart at Peet's. Now, have you tried those?! MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.....

I happen to love donuts more than any other sweet confection in the world.  That slight, lovely crisp surrounding a pillowy bite accompanied by glaze is about as close to heaven as you can get.  I used to smell the whiff of sweet pastry as I passed here during my college jaunts in Westwood, only to marvel at the glowing treats through the window.  Lately I've been making it a habit to follow up with my olfactory's desires, only to be surprised by the always-fresh, always-delicious donuts at this corner shop.  The sprinkled donuts just make me smile.

The  baker's dozen of donuts are certainly not cheap, at double to cost of other donuts shops ($13).  Even Krispy Kreme is cheaper.  But for a one or two (or three) donut treat at $0.95 cents a piece, it isn't so bad.  Plus, higher cost means I'm less likely to indulge in too many.

Ok, actually that isn't true.  Stan's might just be the end of me, regardless of cost.

I fucking hate Westwood. So much so that despite the fact that my apple fritter was delicious (crisp on the outside but so soft and dense on the inside, though it definitely needed more apple chunks in there) and worth the $2.25 since it was pretty huge too, I can guarantee you I will never go back to Stan's. Parking is a nightmare-first time I tried I put a quarter in the meter and it stayed at 0 minutes. Fuck. That was my last silver coin. Fine, fuck it, I'll run in and out before I can get ticketed. Too bad they don't take credit cards and I didn't have any cash. I wasn't about to give myself an aneurysm trying to find a non-metered parking spot anywhere near an ATM so fuck it again, I was off.

But I had already seen the sugar scented doughy fluffs I ordered in the bag waiting for me to take them home. And they had smelled so good. I had to have one. So like a true Yelper with a food problem I came back the next morning. Same old Westwood parking bullshit. No spots. Find one down the block but oops the meter is out of order here too. Fuck it, for the final time. I ran the block to Stan's like an insane donut fiend, got my fritter, and rushed back. Thankfully no ticket but Jesus, it's just a donut. No way in hell are they good enough for that stress or traffic. Never again. But it was fun while it lasted Stan, that was one tasty donut. Thank gawd I won't have a chance to go back for more and get fat at your profit.

Because of my knowledge of Bob's on Fairfax in the Farmer's Market, as an undergraduate at UCLA, Stan's never did it for me. It would be a hollow passionless experience as though I paid for something I wanted but not the experience I needed.

Stan's is great, especially if you want to fulfill your sweet-tooth craving. This is definite no cheap donut shop, especially if a specialty donut dozen costs in the upwards of $27+!!!

One of the dev teams at works gets Stan's once a week, and my boss and I do a donut raid on their stash. Very fresh... I have come to like the Peanut Butter and Chocolate chip donut- you're going to need a tall glass of milk to eat this sucker!

After reading reviews on Stan's, I decided try it out one night. I wish I hadn't.

Got the Peanutbutter Banana doughnut that everyone seems to be craving about and all I will say is UGH. and...

$2.25 for a tiny little doughnut that didn't even taste good. I also got a stomach ache after that.. dry bread, mushy chunks of bananas in the middle, gross peanut butter.. (and it's not like I don't like peanut butter)

I will never come back. The price AND the quality of the food isn't even worth it.

Of all places to eat in Westwood this one ranks just slightly above Chili's. You know you're in trouble when I'd rather eat at CPK or Taco Bell! Where else can you get donuts in the area, I suppose that's the problem...

I don't get it.  Overpriced average donuts.  The blueberry fritter was good (and unique), but kinda pricey at $2.25.  The glazed donut was average, and the apple fritter was not even as good as the one from Yum Yum's or Winchells or maybe even Ralphs.  I was three bites into the fritter before even tasting a piece of apple.

The apple fritter doesn't hold a candle to the ones sold at Randy's for about half the price.  I wanted to support the indie shop now that all chains are taking over Westwood, but at this rate, I'd rather see a Dunkin' Donut move into the hood.  Sorry, Stan.  I don't get the buzz.

Let me start off by stating that according to Jewish law, there is no such thing as heaven. There will, someday, be a heaven on earth once the messiah comes. I might have to put in my bid that the messiah is already here and his name is Stan. Stan has a donut shop.

I walked into this shop yesterday afternoon on a whim. I remembered seeing it on here and that people loved it. I think I vaguely remembered it being on tv for something, too. I dragged my sister inside, looked to my right and felt a strange calm come over me. I pretty much lost the ability to think and I could see were little signs that said things like "Peanut Butter Banana", "Apple Crisp" and "French Glazed". I might have drooled a bit.

Before I knew what I was doing, I had asked the incredibly friendly young man for guidance. "We're known for our Peanut Butter Chocolate." I am an apple fritter girl and couldn't resist but the apple crisp (more like your typical fritter) called to me more than the fritter, which cradled a pool of apple-y goodness in the center of its flaky dough. One apple crisp and a bottle of water - my sister and I would practice our sharing skills. Well, we intended to until we saw the Peanut Butter and Banana donut. Ok, one of those too.

We stood outside of Stan's and sampled our  pastries - each of us becoming more and more gollum-like with each bite. The donuts were perfect. My apple crisp was thick and doughy inside, with a crisp glaze covering. The PB/Banana donut had a thick coating of glaze and a smattering of chocolate chips covering an incredible donut filled with mashed bananas and peanut butter. Nothing was too sweet and nothing was too much. We had each found Nirvana whilst blocking a Westwood sidewalk.

I believe in heaven now. I believe in Stan's donuts.

I gazed into her eyes when she asked, "If you could be at any place in the world right now, where would you go?"

Before the glimmer in my eye took full effect, I confidently replied "There's nowhere else in the world where I'd want to be right now than to be right here.  With you."

We shared a moment I'd never forget.  Then I put her in my mouth.

Beloved blueberry jelly filled donut.  My search for you is finally over.

The peanut butter banana and chocolate chip is really something you have to try. Just the right amount of sweet and salty and donuty.

Apple fritter was deliciously crispy, moist, and apple-y as well. At $2.25 per specialty donut, it's a bit pricey, but definitely a worthwhile splurge.

Do. Nuts.

i mean...donuts.  ;)

i can honestly say that donuts aren't really my dessert of choice when i get smacked hard with an insatiable sugar craving.  leave it to my parents to ruin the whole donut experience for me by constantly bringing home pink boxes stuffed with a two dozen variety of glazed, cake, filled, sugary donuts that made my teeth hurt just looking at it.  i never really liked donuts, but my parents believed all kids liked sugar and you can't get more sugary than donuts.  so hey, by the law of the transitive property, all kids like donuts.

but me, i never liked them.

i mean, hell, maybe if they were filled with something that i DO enjoy (like peanut butter)....maybe just mayyyyyybe i might like them a little bit.

you can imagine my surprise when i found out that there are such things as PEANUT BUTTER filled donuts.  really?!??!  no way!?!?!?!?  i don't really care for donuts but i'll try anything slapped, filled, or marinated in peanut butter!

i tried the peanut butter/chocolate and peanut butter/banana.  both were extremely yummy considering my complete distaste for donuts.  i probably won't crave these bad boys just cause i'm just not that into donuts.  but if i'm ever in the area and need a peanut butter fix quick, i'll definitely head to Stan's.

mmmm....Stan's.

Do (go) Nuts.....for peanut butter filled donuts.

Wow, Stan's helped me rediscover my love for donuts.
The maple bars are so fresh and delicious I swoon.
The peanut butter chocolate is a must try.
A little more on the expensive side for donuts, but what can 90 cents really buy you these days anyways?

I went to see Jodie Foster's new movie last night and was craving something sweet. Hmmmmm....a Diddy Reese ice cream sandwhich or a pineapple upside down cake donut? Decisions, decisions...

The line at Diddy's was way too long so we decided to go to Stan's.

I personally do not love Stan's doughnuts but if you are in the mood for one this is pretty much the only option there is.

We had a chocolate glazed doughnut, an apple fritter and a pineapple upside downcake. The chcolate one was on the stale side and the chocolate glaze did not cover the whole doughnut!  So that did not get eaten...

The pineapple upside down cake's tasty brown sugar-butter part is always good but the cake can be a little dry but I ate it anyway because I was craving something sugary!

As for the apple fritter, it is one of my favourites and I often order this one on my periodic visits to Stan's.

In conclusion...

I never go out of my way to come to Stan's nor would I call their doughnuts the best I have ever eaten but if you get a craving and it happens to be a few steps away from you, feel free to go on in.

A lot of people have mentioned that the donuts here are overpriced.

A tip that (after reading all 22 reviews) I realized has not yet been mentioned: after a certain time of night (maybe 9:00ish?), you can get the Bag 'o Donuts for about $5.  This is exactly what it sounds like.  You go in.  You ask for a bag filled with donuts.  And you just keep pointing at whatever variety you want, until the bag is full.  Cool, right?

I have to take a star off for the fact that service can be kind of . . .grudging? And they don't take credit cards.  But as far as donuts go, I definitely have to hop on this bandwagon and say that Stan's are deeeeLISH!

Now I don't know how much my input counts for this place because I like almost anything that's deep fried and covered in sugar but Stan's Donuts is awesome. May I say that this place is totally worth the $2 you spend on a donut. I had cravings for them for a while.

I've only gotten one type of donut here because that's what I first got and it was good - never really had a reason to get anything else - so definitely try their peanut butter, chocolate chip and banana donut. Sounds weird, I know, but it actually has real peanut butter with chocolate chips on top and the chunks of banana inside totally balance out the PB and sugar.

GREAT donuts.  The only thing that could make this place better would be it's own parking, but alas, it is in Westwood.  There's a parking structure not too far down the street though.  My bf especially loves their "Peanutbutter Cup" doughnut.  MMMMMM....chocolate and peanut butter....

Normally, I write pretty long reviews.  That's because I feel like I have to say everything I can think of about the place.  But this review is going to be a little different.  With Stan's, there is just one thing I think about, go there for, drool over, risk my life for (parking my USC paraphernalia-plastered car in UCLA territory), and recommend to you.  That one thing is the peanut butter chocolate chip banana stuffed donut.  Nowhere else on earth, to my knowledge, has such a gem.  Stan's my man!

Stan's is an institution in Westwood.  It's been there for as long as I can remember.  Strategically positioned across from the Bruin theater, movie goers and passers by are apt to stop by for a quick treat any time of the day.

My favorite donuts are the peanut butter chocoalte and the blueberry buttermilk, although they have a large and varied variety of specialty donuts.

The donuts are perfectly fried to a crispy exterior while maintaining a soft, fluffy interior.  The flavors don't over power but are definitely not a background player either.

Yes, they are on the expensive side, but creativity has its price, LOL.  If you've never had donut at Stan's before, its definitely worth checking out.

yes...Yes.....YES!!!!

I dislike sweets and I particularly dislike donuts and I'm not a fan of apples, BUT Stan's has made me a believer.

I came here on a few occasions this past year. I saw this featured on Food Network and figured I'd stop in.

Peanut Butter filled donut covered with chocolate: 4/5 (tasted great but a bit too rich for me)
Apple Crisp: 5/5 (warm and moist on the inside and phenomenal crunch on the outside with a sweet and mild apple taste)
Blueberry Crisp: 5/5 (moist inside with crispy outside and wonderful dark blue/purple colour throughout the fluffy white dough)
Blueberry filled donut: 10/10!!! (simply amazing, bursting with blueberries)
Custard filled donut covered with chocolate: 2/5 (custard was bland)

I like Stan's. The apple fritter and the blueberry filled are officially my favourites.

Really fun selection - peanut butter! - but way overpriced for donuts, even plain glazed donuts.  Donuts are supposed to be cheap! Tasty though and I love that I can eat a BJ's pizookie, Diddy Riese ice cream sandwich, and a donut - all in one corner! The happiest corner on earth!!

I have downed 2 doz. Krispy kremes, 1 doz. Bob's donuts, and a few Donut Man strawberry confections in my day, but I don't think even I could finish a real dozen of Stan's fancy donuts.  THEY ARE HUGE!

With fancy flavors like cherry cheese and peanut butter and jelly(my fav) it kinda leaves the other very fine other choices in the dust.  Who gets a simple whole wheat and honey or a blueberry crisp when you are staring at a chocolate covered jelly donut?   Don't neglect the little ones.
They are good, too.

But I'd stear clear of the peanut butter and banana if I were you.  I farted for hours afterwards on that one...
No one likes a donut-eating farting dog, especially when you have just eaten their donut from Stan's!

By the way, these are not cheap desserts.  A dozen will set you back, but again... who needs a whole box?  3 or 4 will do the trick.

Park in one of the lots on Broxton, there is never any parking on the street!

There is a photograph at stan's of the most ridiculously sloppy donuts with names indicating the amount of exercise one would have to accomplish before working that donut off....things like a glazed called "yoga 47 minutes" more on that in a minute...

Stan's reigns supreme as the best donut in LA, comparable to none in all the essential ways but...

people seem to compare stan's with crispy creme... the only meaningful comparison is that like crispy creme donuts, stan's have an unusually long shelf life, and are well worth eating when most would be hardtack. Two important points:

1) Variety - stan's has the most amazing variety i have seen, not silly variety like at most places with the same donut and eight colors of sprinkles, but unique blends for the sugar-madness that overcomes us all at some point.  Banana-bread donuts (they tend to sell out), blueberry fritters, and the classic (too sweet for my taste) - stuffed with peanut butter to name but a few.

AND

2) Flavor - there is something so special about the donuts from stan's, they aren't the airy BS you get from other places, the dough actually changes dramatically from donut to donut from dense and rich, but still somehow so moist, to crunchy and gooey at the same time for the fritters.  The chocolate has real flavor, the apple tastes amazingly like real apple.  Everything is as it should be in this donut shop out of my dreams.

I sit proudly next to that picture on the wall, I stare down those exercise-oriented names and think: this is the one place that could hang that picture and convince its patrons, that it is still worth while.

Quite possibly the best tasting donut. Anywhere. I don't care where you live and what you've been eating, it's not as good. Krispy Kreme? Ya, they're good. This is better. Million times better. Don't get me wrong, I can eat a dozen easy when that hot now sign is flashing, but Stan's is different. Stan's has some heft to his donut. Perfect tecture and taste. Oh, and they have some really cool flavors as mentioned in other reviews. Bring a dozen (or three) of these to a meeting, and it's like gold!

Back in 2001, my old roommate and I walked here from the far northwest end of campus (Sunset) in the middle of the night just so we could get there when it opened. She swore they were the best donuts ever. I was half asleep and susceptible to any excuse for breakfast she threw at me.

It was worth the 40 minute walk.

Tip: Donuts are extremely sweet, so buy a few and cut them in half or quarters and share with friends. In the mornings, they sell industrial-size buckets filled with assorted donuts for $2. $2!!! Those are best saved for a drunken night in.

[UPDATE:] Six years after my first visit, I finally bring myself to eat another peanut-butter-and-banana-topped-with-chocolate-chi ps donut and it's just as GOOD, if not magically more delicious, than before. It was worth the walk and the 3000 calories! In fact, excuse me while I go back for another...

Peanut butter and banana filled donuts, topped with chocolate chips! I have found my most favoritest donut ever! The other varieties found here are also good, but the peanut butter donuts are the reason I make the trip to this place.

Okay. If you love doughnuts, and I mean LOVE doughnuts, and you have a discriminating palate for this amazing delectable treat, you must must must have a doughnut at Stan's. If you live in Hollywood, sh*t if you live anywhere, it is worth the trek to Westwood for one of many delicious varieties available at this landmark business. Heaven on earth. Mmm...doughnuts.

the donuts here aren't anything real special. to me, they are too heavy and not real good. they are a bit too dense and sweet for me. but to my mom and dad, this was a place full of fond memories for them. for me, i'm not so fond of 'em. they're aiight but nothing to drool over. it was a pleasant experience though.

3 words....peanut butter donuts.  They are so delicious and rich that it might take awhile to eat, but well worth the time.
