I wrote my review almost 6 months ago and feel like I can give an update on it -----
the food is still very good, very consistent. The do a great job with fried oysters, shrimp and fish. I like their tartar sauce a lot -- it's home made, you can tell. The roux of their gumbo is excellent -- it's dark as dark can get, not many chefs would risk going that far with it. The only thing I have been disappointed in so far was their crab cake - it's more like crab stuffing (wet inside, barely any crab meat in it, don't like the seasoning).
THey opened a small store next door where you can buy fresh shrim, fish etc. as well as things that go with them - crab boil, sauces, bread crumbs, seasonings. The prices are very fair.
I hope those guys improve their crabcake recipe and stay the course on everything else. I am definitely coming back again and again!

R & R is a great hole in the wall place to get great simple seafood -- generous servings and great… Read more »
I've been eating at R&R for a while and just haven't gotten around to posing about it. They have wonderful friend shrimp and other fried items, Oysters in many ways.
But the main dish is the Crawfish! They are excellent! They sell by the pound, both cooked and live.
Try the lunchtime special of a half poboy and cup of gumbo.
Well Elphaba wanted Oysters because she was reading Robb Walsh's book, Sex, Death, and Oysters. Oysters are pretty easy to find in Mobile. They're plump, soft, sweet, and juicy even if they lack the saltiness and mineral taste that other oysters have. But then Elphaba wanted boiled crawfish too. Hmmm. that narrowed the list quite a bit. I'd been very unimpressed with the ambiance at R&R before but knew they'd have the required food.
This time was better. Maybe because the place was hopping and everyone was going out of their way to be friendly. We waited at the bar for about 20 minutes drinking beers and eating raw oysters before we could be seated. Didn't seem like a bad wait at all.
Oysters were fantastic. Really good. Some of the best gulf oysters we've had in a long time. After a couple of dozen we decided to go for a little bit of crawfish. Just three pounds between us. The bugs were big and meaty. Somehow R&R does a better job of getting the spice all the way into the meat. when you sucked the heads you got some heat! About 1/4 of the bugs were big enough to make it worth getting the claw meat as well as the tails so that's pretty good.
Finally we got the crabcakes. Crab apparently is not in season but the crabcakes were good. We both really like the Maryland style which these aren't. But they are packed with crab. They come fried or grilled and both are good.
Oddly R&R is very proud of their onion rings which is weird b/c the onion rings aren't really that good.
Oh they had Royal Red shrimp and Gulf White Shrimp today. We were too full to eat any but the table next to us said that the Royal Reds were really good. Man they looked good. I was too embarrassed to ask them to let me take a picture for Yelp.

This place is pretty good. Po boys, steamed shrimp. Good hushpuppies and good french fries.… Read more »
When crawfish are in season, there's none better than at R&R. Po-Boys are also a favorite. Not big on ambience. Outside dining is available, but not much of a view. Very reasonably priced and the food comes out pretty fast.
