Went for a bachelorette party and stayed for the massage chairs... OMG the chairs are amazing... the pedicures were nice also and the ambiance is great. Great location since parking is a breeze. On weekend they have snacks and champage!
I think there is a reason why this place is always empty. The salon itself is nice and the women are very nice and friendly. However, the services are a bit overpriced for what you get
I have visited here twice for a mani/pedi. The first time I thought great, I am the only one here, I can get in and out in no time. They did work pretty quickly and I like the absence of nasty foot spas and the warm lotion is great. However, to pay $50 (including tip) for a mani-pedi of this caliber is not worth it to me.
The second time I went in and asked for my nails to be rounded and buffed. Not only did she file my nails square but they were completely uneven!!!! I can let the square go because she obviously did not speak english but the uneven is inexcusable. It may have been a little less noticeable with pollish on but I ended up going home and re-filing my nails cause they looked so bad, My husband even noticed, that's how bad they looked.
I will not be returning here. I would give 2.5 stars.
I agree with others that this place has good massage chairs and have a removable disposable liners for their foot soak tub and easy street parking...
On the other hand, the thing that i did not like was when I came in for a French manicure and a regular pedicure... with the type of massage chair ... it's hard for me to rest my arm for the girl to do my fingernails. She gave me a pillow... but it's weird. Because my fingers is not rested even on the pillow and she was sitting on my right side.. the outcome of my French tip was not great. The curve was uneven. On each nail, the right side of the nail has a longer curve than the left...
The staff is great but just that next time, if i insist on coming back, i might do it separately. I don't recommend doing the French Manicure while sitting on the massage chairs...

Quince is located on a quaint block in Potrero with ample parking (woo hoo). Beautiful space on the ground floor of a modern loft building.
Hands down one of the most beautiful pedicures I've ever gotten - my nails look absolutely perfect. My nail technician really took her time with me, making each nail clean and even. They also use footsoak tubs with removable disposable liners, so you know that they are not all germ laden. Also, my technician wore gloves the entire time she worked on me for the trimming and scrubbing.
Massage wasn't super long but was really nice... at $28, I'm not complaining! I might ask for a longer one next time.
Don't miss out on the massage chair. Trust me, I'm pretty ho-hum about massage chairs in general, but this one was really something worth writing home about!

EDIT: 6/1/08
My nails have lifted after a few days, fyi.
But I am going back to give them another chance, after all, not all manicurists are the same....
I wanted to find a new place that was able to do acrylic and that was within walking distance from my house.....
What a beautiful place! iT is very new and what looks really cool is the super duper massage chairs.
What was a great plus is that by every station, they have a portable DVD player. How cool is that?
I FOUND IT. Thanks for other Yelpers.
Parking: easy
Cleaninless: SUPERCLEAN!
Service: WONDERFUL
I will be back and this is going to be my new place.

Disappointing-- Especially since P. Hill needs more nail salon options!
I went on a weekday afternoon when there was only one other person getting her nails done. The technicians were really nice and got me in right away.
I actually really enjoyed the manicure and pedicure and felt like it was all very clean and that the 'spa' was decorated nicely.
I didn't find the massage chairs to be mind-blowing, nor were the hand/foot massages anything exciting (and they were very short for the price).
Overall it was nothing special, but the ladies who ran the place were very sweet and I felt like, "Hey, if I have an extra $43 laying around that I don't know what to do with (like that ever happens), I'll come back sometime".
That was until I really looked at my manicure in the car (there is low-lighting in the salon, so buyer beware).
It was God-awful! It looked like I had shaped and painted my own nails really BADLY! I chose a sheer opalescent shade for my hands and the color did not reach the tip of my nail. It was not applied all the way down to the cuticle either. I was totally embarrassed and annoyed.
I had to re-do my nails at home.
Not cool anywhere, especially not when I'm paying 'spa' prices!

Disappointing for the high prices they charge. There was nail polish under all my nails and it was done so quickly and not very well. I would not return here again.
When you walk in, there is a reception desk, but no one is there and I wasn't sure whether to yell or just sit invisibly someplace. I called before I arrived to make sure they had an opening or in this case, staff available. There were only 3 other ladies having their nails done.
Surprisingly very empty on my visit on a sunny Saturday afternoon, the place is very large (too big, really). The set up of the pedicure chairs is similar to a line up in a furniture store. It would be much more pleasant with some small circles of inviting groups.
This is overpriced, but I really wanted to check out those chairs others were raving about. The chairs are quite amazing. It's nice that it's not crowded so you can sit and relax for a while.
They offered water or tea. I thought I read on the website and other reviews that they offer water, tea, soda, wine, champagne. What's up with that? I didn't want to ask for it though. I got little Chinese cracker cookies made with tomatoes. They were very tasty and made me want to go and buy some from the store.
I only do pedicures. They did a pretty good job. I really like that dark pumice stone they had. Where can I buy one? The massage was pretty good, I have sensitive shins so I had to ask for less pressure there, but on the feet, I can go all the way. The pedicure quality was above decent, but nothing memorable. I added another top coat a day or two later because it didn't look very candy like.
There is ALWAYS free parking outside.

Surprised to see so many negative reviews -- I've been twice and it's been lovely both times. Pretty, relaxing space, friendly staff, impeccably clean equipment, and tea and snacks. The massage chairs really are amazing -- the only downside being that if you like the really strong massage, it makes it hard to hold your nails steady for polishing.
About 6 weeks after my first pedicure, I was still getting compliments on my toes! Second one didn't quite live up to that, but was still pretty good. Docked one star because it's a little pricey, but that won't stop me from going back.
This place is wonderful! The MASSAGE chairs are freaking awesome- I gotta get me one of those! I got a mani/pedi and my eyebrows waxed. I needed it! I left in a such a great mood- so relaxed and loving my pretty toes and fingers.
I had originally thought I would get a silk full set- it's been about a year since I've had "fake" nails, but the girl convinced me that my real nails are too pretty for that, and that I should just get a french manicure- and I have to say, I'm grateful she changed my mind.
The ladies, were very attentive, didn't speak much, but they were much more gentle and caring than other salon/spas I've been to.
OH! Did I mention the massage chairs?
It's so nice to have a great mani/pedi place in Potrero Hill - long time coming (since I didn't really like Mani/Pedi on 20th). The customer service is excellent - very friendly and service oriented. We had a group of girls of 5 - since Sunday is a slower day - we had the place to ourselves. We brought champagne and nibbles and they were totally fine with it.
I'd say the atomosphere is 5 star, and mani pedi is 3 1/2 to 4 stars. That's only because the girl I had didn't do the best massage - she seemed a bit timit and new. However, the rest of the girls had a great experience. I'd probably mention it to the mgr when I go in next.
I'd highly recommend this place for a group - going solo is good too. The massage chairs are wonderful -- definitely of higher quality than some of the other places I've visited.
I will definitely go here again.
GREAT place! I called around noon on a Saturday, and they were able to let me come in for a pedicure just a few hours later. Tons of very comfortable chairs. They have a wide color selection. The decor was very relaxing, and it was immaculate, which is always very reassuring. They gave me water and snacks, and had lots of magazines to read, all of which were recent to that month.
The woman who did my pedicure did an excellent job, and it's held up really well. (Considering I run alot & pick very neutral colors, it's important!) She also gave me a much deeper leg massage than I've received at other spas, which was really nice. It was kind of empty, so it's nice if you just want to relax. Very reasonably price too. I'm definitely going here again!
I really enjoyed the manicure/pedicure I got here last week. It was affordable, I went during happy hour (10am - 2:30pm), the technicians did an amazing job on me, and, this is big, they didn't assume I was flaming just by the fact that I'm a man that enjoys a mani/pedi as much as the next girl. I'll be back and would recommend for guys that wanted to be treated as such. Very nice.
I COME FOR THE MASSAGE CHAIRS
The nail salon up on18th St ( under new ownership now I think) used to be my go to spot but their service has deteriorated.
I found Quince on Yelp after the Mutiny on 18th St. I LOVE the massage chairs (not just oscillating couches), and the minimalist design, not too kistchy like the other spot (is it a nail salon or an accesories store?). They give free refreshments and a small package of cookies.
I would have given them 5 stars, but I feel that the girls at Polished Lounge does a better job. Don't get me wrong, Quince girls are pretty good too.
I have used Quince twice now for a mani/pedi during my lunch break, as my office is located close by, and I've been very pleased.
The ladies doing the services are very polite, and the massaging chairs are fantastic! The salon seems extremely clean, and I like that they use pedicure bowls lined with plastic (the tubs connected to chairs gross me out).
Parking is a breeze, and they offer "Happy Hour" discounts during weekdays. Otherwise they are slightly pricier than most mani/pedi shops, but I think you get what you pay for. (I got mani & pedi for $34 pre-tip.)
Both times I've been the only person in the salon, which is great for me! I just hope they have enough clients to keep the business open!

Great place I love it here, you get complimentry wine/water/tea with your mani pedi and the girls are wonderful. very clean and relaxing place I highly recommend this place.
We went here on Sunday and I really liked it. For one, it's spacious. So many mani pedi places are so crowded! This place is great if you have a big group and all want to be together. They were AOK with you bringing in champagne, etc., which was great. They have massage chairs and yet it's super clean because the massage chairs aren't the type with foot baths connected, which can be really gross. They did a great job with the hot stone treatments. My mani pedi looks great. I was totally happy with the color selection as well. And they have cards where once you spend x # of $$$ you get a free treatment, which is cool. Also one other great thing is that parking is super easy here, parked right out front. The only thing I would say is Silk still wins as far as longest/best leg and arm massage...but I would prefer this place for atmosphere any day of the week, as we could never have had a great group get-together at Silk, I only go there generally solo. And I'm not sold on Silk's cleanliness sometimes.
Earlier in the year I wrote a positive review about Dolci in Potrero Hill. And Dolci is fine, relative to what we used to have in the neighborhood (i.e., a virtual monopoly held by Mani-Pedi).
But since then, more salons have arrived on the scene, premier among them being Quince on Texas just north of 22nd. This is now my go-to spot for manicures and pedicures. I also sometimes get massage (back, shoulder).
This place is fantastic, and I simply don't go anywhere else anymore. This is a place to go when you want attentive service, conscientious and thorough manicures and pedicures, and killer hand and foot massages.
Let me reiterate: their hand and foot massages, which are included in the service are otherworldly. Once they start it, you will undoubtedly want to buy additional :10-:20 worth. In fact, I have been tempted to go just for the hand/foot massage, even when my mani/pedi is still in good shape!
This is not a good place to go if you are in a hurry, it is where you go to relax and leave well groomed and refreshed. Their model is not based on turning over a high volume of clients. It is such a cliche, but I have to use it anyway: they value quality over quantity. Hence their prices are not bargain basement, but considering the attentive service, relaxing environment, and cleanliness, I find the prices reasonable.
The staff are caring and not mentally doing their shopping lists while sawing away on your nails. Management and staff show a real concern for customer service, and have bent over backwards to ensure satisfaction.
For example, a friend and I walked in once and had to wait a while for our services. We were gabbing away, getting caught up, enjoying ourselves in the massage chairs (we recommend the kneading setting, but beware of the percussion setting) and we were not particularly aware of the time passing. The manager however was incredibly solicitous and offered us 20% coupons for our next visit.
Another example: once, on a very short nail I had broken, the manicurist noticed that the nail was cracked extending a little below the quick. She offered to repair it, and did so expediently, and may not have even charged me for it (can't remember). Either way it was thoughtful. It would have been annoying and possibly painful if that little bugger had continued to get caught on things until it grew out.
This is the kind of treatment that makes me a loyal, regular customer.
p.s. They're dog friendly and a bowl of water for my hound always comes out simultaneous with the Japanese tea and snacks for me. Their good customer service even extends to my dog! You had me at hello, Quince spa. You complete me. ;-)
p.p.s. They take Visa/MC but be sure to bring cash for tips!

The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because Lush gives longer massages with their standard mani/pedis. Also, it could have been a little warmer in there on the two rainy days I've been.
That said, I've had two fantastic mani/pedis here. They were so meticulous....I've never had someone be that diligent when painting my nails, and it showed in the results. They don't rush you through like they used to at Mani Pedi, and it is very sanitary. All of the staff I've had contact with was very friendly and professional. This is my new go-to place for manicures and pedicures.
i am so in love with this place and so happy that i finally found a new pedi spot. it's close to work and parking is so easy. i have been searching for a new nail salon for months only to to give up on them all together. my faith is renewed and i owe it to quince.
the space is immaculate...the service oustanding and the ambiance is amazing.
Very clean, relaxing, and friendly. I've been here twice for mani/pedi. The first time was for a Deluxe pedicure and basic manicure, the second time was just basic for both since the Deluxe pedicure was not that impressive. The ladies give you cookies and drinks, and the massaging chairs feel really great on the back. Everything feels very new yet comfortable. I've been able to use discounts both times here, so the price turned out to be very reasonable. Not sure that I would be able to afford it regularly at full price. Parking is easy, and they even offer discounts for Caltrain commuters! They are trying really hard to drum up business (it's not the best location), so it's sad to see it empty so often. But that means you can usually get in without an appointment! Even after a couple of weeks, the mani and pedi look great!
After being spoiled beyond belief once upon a time at a Maiden Lane Salon far, far away from my budget with the best hand massage, paraffin treatment and French manicure in San Francisco, I've wandered sadly from nail salon to nail salon, looking for something nice, clean, a little less expensive and attitude-y than Maiden Lane Salon, and pleasant. Lavande--no. Various cheapie places in the Sunset--hell, no. I even went to some place in Emeryville... the chemical fumes at that place almost killed me.
My friend and I decided to take another pal for a manicure and pedicure to pamper her, pre-birthday. My friend chose Quince, which is located in the Potrero Hill area.
We went at 5:00 pm, with reservations. (Make reservations. All the manicurists were busy, although the salon was not at all full.) There were only three people on staff when we went. Parking was easy (and it didn't seem like we lucked out. There were several spots on the streets near the salon). The space is below some fancy-looking new condos, and it's clean and new, with big windows which face the quiet street and beautiful jacaranda trees. Inside, the salon is spacious, with a beautiful dark floor and chocolate brown microsuede chairs. There are sheer curtains between each pedicure station, which were open when we went, but which can easily be closed for a little bit of privacy. There's a pretty flat-panel waterfall on the back wall. The temperature and noise level are both really comfortable, and it doesn't smell like your typical nail salon.
Quince has a good selection of Essie and OPI nail colors to choose from; the usual classic reds and baby pinks, but also several really goth-y colors like dark purple, black, and blood red.
For the Hard Candy nostalgia moments, they also had mint green, baby blue and iridescent silver glitter polish. We were impressed.
The birthday girl, who is a clean freak, was happy that the foot soaking bowl was lined with plastic... the water was nice and hot and had mint leaves in it. The tools were super nice and clean.
My manicurist was gentle and skillful; she did a terrific job. (Her name is Fumie, or so it says on her name tag.) A manicure is only $15, which is a steal for how good it is, and how nice the salon is! At first I thought she said, "fifty dollars". I thought, "Well, okay, that makes sense."
Sheesh, when I realized it was only $15, I happily tipped her ten!

As soon as I walked in I had a pleasant feeling of cleanliness and calm. I loved it right away. After reading of several nail salons where bacteria were found even in the fanciest foot spas, I was impressed to see the simple and hygienic bowls of warm water they use to start the pedicure and the individually wrapped and sterilized pedicure tools they use. The decor is simple and elegant and the massage chairs very soothing. I also have to give them rave review for the "children" pedicure (at $15) that my 10-year-old daughter tried. We were so impressed by the artistic and cute flowers they can paint on their little toes, that we decided to hold a "b-day pedicure party" at Quince. The staff was very accommodating, efficient and the girls had a lot of fun. Great place for a pampering mani/pedi.

ok great place for nails- but really- is this a spa?
.
So Bad. My first bad review.
I saw this spa passing by for grand opening, and told quite a few people about it. People who wouldn't have heard of this spa otherwise, and people who don't look up on yelp. A few friends have went already and got pedicure with mixed reviews.
After spreading some word about new spa, I decided I should try it.
I walked in here about a week ago with a friend in the middle of day when I was in the area. There was no customer inside, and everyone was just sitting around chatting with each other.
Now, my male friend went with me only because his wife told him nail technicians there are pretty. Umm, Well, After we talked to them, he decided not to get his nails done, and took metrosexual self to mechanic and run some errand at Best Buy. He said he would pick me up in 1 hour when it's done. He obviously doesn't know how to decode sentence from one female about another female like "umm..yeah, she is pretty, (immediately followed by) and she is reeeeallly niiiice."
Facial was just bad. I highly doubt she was even trained esthetician. And she didn't speak english. I asked her what that was, and she said, "I don't know how to say, but it is really good." Never had worse facial in my life. In my opinion, "acceptable facial" doesn't even have to be fancy as long as fastidious. But she was in and out of room about 5 times, and rubbed my face with some hand held device for 20 min. Overall, very disappointing.
I will not go back.

This is my new favorite nail salon, on par with Polished Lounge,
First: It's brand new, even the chairs and polish.
Two: Easy parking, gotta have it.
Three: Ultra sanitary-They line the foot soak tubs with plastic to ensure no grodie germs are left from the last patron.
Prices were not a bad at all, I think $38 for mani/pedi.
I had a great experience, I'll definitely be back.
Nearly perfect.
Their chairs are awesome - the decor is great. The people are really nice.
I got a $43 mani-pedi and both my hands and feet look great. They were very attentive but quiet and I felt a little awkward. But I pretty much always do.
They soaked my hands in feet in mint water, used hot lotion during the massage, and wrapped my hands and feet in hot towels. Good - but not as great as the treatment at Mara's in Hayes Valley.
Considering I'm setting up shop in Potrero Hill - this is likely to become my regular spot anyway. Its a LOT better than "Pinkies" around the corner.
Also: parking = EASY.

I went here for the first time with two of my girlfriends last weekend, one of which had never had a pedicure. I walk by here with my dog all the time, so I noticed their signage "Grand Opening Special! Mani & Deluxe Pedi - $40" Holy crapazoids, that's about half of what I pay at Mani-Pedi, erm, Pinkie's or whatever they're calling themselves.
Quince is about a sneeze away from my house so I can't confidently say parking's a non-issue...buuuuuuuut parking's a non-issue. The space is super cute loft with a warm yet modern feel. Microsuede sofas and chairs, flat sceen TVs, and dark wood furnishings...I like.
On to the good part. We took a seat in the oh-so relaxing iJoy massage chairs and yeah, I would pay to just come in after a long day and hang out in those chairs! The staff was very friendly and accommodating and offered some delish herbal iced tea and not so delish Japanese biscuits. Probably for the best because one of the little packages had 430 calories in two little biscuit/cookies!!
The pedicure was phenomenal! The warm foot mask was a nice touch following Holly working her massage magic on my feet and legs. The manicure was good, too, but I can see why the call the pedicure deluxe. So five days post- french mani/pedi and still no chipping! My french manicures typically last about three days before chipping, so I'll be really impressed if I can make it to the weekend sans chippage. After we were done, they offered us some wine and let us just hang out and talk until we were ready to leave. We hung out for about an hour, and never once felt pressured to wrap up the conversation!
I really hope business picks up for them. I love having them around the corner!

My husband and I were in for mani-pedis yesterday and were delighted with the entire experience. The music is soothing, the ambience relaxing, the ladies are delightful and the only People magazine in the place was waaaay over by the flat screen TV--I was thrilled! Such a different experience from other mani-pedi "mills." I'm definitely going back to get a massage from the woman who gave me my pedicure; she has amazing hands. Oh yeah, and my nails look great!
Love it!
Fumie - the owner is as kind as they come and does great acrylic nails or gel as well as mani/pedi.
The environment is tranquil - the technicinans all polite and skilled - the results perfection (I get compliments on my pedicure!) and the whole experience wonderful!
After Mani/Pedi became the dreaded Pinkies Potero needed a real day spa and Quince is it! Earthy colors and a water wall calm you as you relax in faux suede lux chairs with your feet in peppermint scented hot water. Parking is a breeze too!
I have been back every 2 weeks for 3 months now and am totally impressed!
Just opened in Potrero Hill in a new retail/condo complex. Spotless and sanitary -- they use plastic liners and a fresh batch of sterilized tools for every pedicure. They also gave us tea and cookies, but that may just be for the grand opening. Hands-down better than Mani Pedi (or whatever it's called now) up the street.
They were very thorough and meticulous, and used a lot of nice-smelling scrubs, lotions, etc. The massage chairs actually work and are amazingly comfortable. Very nice, professional staff who were focused on their work and not on chatting with each other (about you?!). Nice upscale ambiance with curtains or screens separating you from the other customers. They also do waxing and facials, but I haven't tried those yet. I considered docking them a star because it's pricey, but they deserve the business. Parking is easy.
Perfect after a long flight! Amazing masseuse.
why the hell havent I gone here in a month? my toes are ashamed.
This place is tucked away beneath a condo complex and was absolutely empty when I walked in at 4pm on a Thursday for a pedicure ($28), but I'm rooting for them because it's such a nicely done space and the service was attentive. Usually I like a tub with jets for a pedicure -- but in some ways it was nicer to put my feet in a bowl that I knew was clean and plastic-lined. I also noticed the sterilized tools, everything's reassuringly sanitary-looking. I'd go back.
Don't go....don't go....don't go! Especially if you have acrylic nails. I read the reviews and went in for the 10% happy hour manicure. They charged me $52 fror a take off and new set. The girl cut my fingers twice, yes...she drew blood twice and she didn' even give me a hand and arm massage. Nedless to say, I didn't leave a tip
i live right near by and decided i should try it out after passing by many times. so far i've been there twice. the massage chairs are comfortable, the range of polish colors is good and they give you yummy japanese biscuits to boot. i've been very happy with the pedicures, esp. the leg and foot massage, and the polish lasts for a while. however, the last time i went to get a manicure, the technician made my nails super-square which looked a bit odd, but i guess i should have spoken up. the staff are very pleasant and accomodating and the prices are reasonable as well. overall, i would recommend it and i will definitely be going back.
My first experience here is definitely enough to bring me back. Great service and nice space. The chairs give something close to a real massage, not the annoying vibrating sensation provided by cheaper "massage" chairs. The beverage and little snack are a nice touch, the color choices more than sufficient, and the pedicure/ manicure services were great. It's a breeze to park, and the space is well ventilated. I'm happy to have a new place, since I haven't been thrilled with Pinkies up the hill. Make sure to bring cash for the tip.
