HOLY MARY MOTHER OF GOD!! This palce was so good I could punch a senior citizen!!

This place was out of this world. Believe me I am not a granola head so I am a legit meat eater. Some of the most amazing flavors going on, it was party in my mouth.

I had the TLT with Tempeh and Jamaican spices. I also had to try the Mac and Yease, the flavors were so amazing. You cannot tell that you are eating anything vegan, not that vegan is a bad thing.

The flavors were just so glorious all you can think about is how amazing it is. You must try this place. You need to have some time on your hand as they are definatley on island time. The main cook is so dope, crazy long dreads and totally friendly.

Any person would enjoy this place, I feel left out that I just now discovered it. Check out my pics. My co-worker got the BBQ burger.

P.S. I love senior citizens, I wouldn't really punch you no matter how good something tastes!

This place is great, with some caveats.  Wonderful, vegan burgers, which more than please a meat eater like myself.  However, it's more than you'd expect to pay considering the location, decor and overall dining experience.  Also, the guy who's always working when I go in seems very nice, but always gets something wrong with our order, and it takes a long time, often, to get anything.  Finally, the hours are bizarre - you have to check in advance, since they could be closed at any time, even high-traffic dining hours.

Other than that, highly recommended.

Always a favorite, Quickie Too fills you up! This place has wonderful meals for vegetarians and is good for meat lovers too! Our kids love their homemade macaroni and cheese.

Even us carnivores love Quickie Too.

This is some of the best food in Tacoma - not just the best vegan food, flat out the best of anything. Don't be afraid to try it just because it's labeled vegan. The food they put out at Quickie Too would make a lot of people think they were eating meat.

Yes, the service is slow. Yes, the decor and ambiance are minimal. But the food more than makes up for it. Just go and try it.

Went for lunch today after reading so many raving reviews for the place. I myself am not a vegan or a vegetarian, but not at all too close minded to give good food a try. The atmosphere was nice, simple, and natural. They didn't seem to try to hard to let you know, just by looking the place, that this was indeed a vegan restaurant. With Bob Marley staring at me from every corner of the wall and playing on the stereo I ordered the Jamaican Burger. It took a about 15 minutes to get my food, and I was 1 or 3 people in the place- so it was a little long. I really liked my burger especially the fried plantain! It was so delicious, I could of just ate a fried plantain burger. The side of potato's were good, nothing spectacular. I cannot wait to go back to try more.. really looking forward to there agave lemonade and fish sandwich!

This is absolutely my favorite restaurant in Tacoma.  I always order the Southern Comfort--tofu steaks and mashed potatoes with gravy, collard greens, mac and yease, and a hush puppy.  It's on the spendy side and a little greasy, but I'm never disappointed.  I want to order other things, but I can't stray from my beloved Southern Comfort.  Good food, interesting vibe, close to my house in Hilltop.  I love this place!  One caveat, you might want to call before you go--the hours can be unpredictable.  And check out the special weekend brunches, too!

How I love yelp.   I'm sure most of you have gone through the same thing, I discovered yelp a month ago & now I'm addicted.  I look up stuff obsessively and have learned a lot very quickly.  Case in point:  I've driven by Quickie Too for years, too chicken to go in & wondering what the deal is.  Thanks to all the yelpers here, I knew:  "GO!"

QUICKIE TOO ROCKS!  I had the stuffed cabbage dinner ($12) and my girl, Serina, had the TLT sandwich with NY deli style tofu ($9).  The stuffed cabbage plate seriously fed my soul.  The deliciously  spiced tempeh & rice filling tasted very traditional without completely weighing me down.  The sides were terrific:  the justifiably popular mac 'n yease, sweet potato, mixed green salad w/ yummy dressing & bread.

My other daughter & son  joined us and had dessert.  They munched down their cookies (about $2.5 each)  right quick.  My daughter wanted ice cream, and the wonderful man who runs the place told her they'd be making it again in a few days now that the weather is better.

Yelpers are right when they say to allow extra time, it's a relaxed pace in here & just two people running the whole place .  It took 25 minutes to get our order,  but very worth the wait.  This is going to be a regular stop for me!

Thanks again to everyone for tipping us off to a great spot!

The first time i ate at Quickie Too, i was pleased to note that everything's two bucks cheaper than it is at the Quickies locations in Seattle.

The menu's a little more limited. I don't really care; it keeps me out of the Quickies rut that i get in for weekday lunches.  They still have the TofuStrami sub, which is pretty much seven bucks of happy. You don't need to eat for 6-10 hours after eating at Quickies.

The Mac and Yease is, as is typical for the stuff, bloody outstanding.  Frosty cold China Cola in the fridge, or try their iced tea.  Got a ginger snap cookie that was amazing the next day.  Sunday brunch is great but be warned it is a recipe for a serious food coma.

I agree with Michael Jackson Q of Santa Cruz, CA .... this area is veritable wasteland when it comes to vegetarian/vegan, and healthy food cuisine. For a metropolitan area such as Tacoma, it is shamefully lacking in quality food choices. I am not a vegan or a vegetarian, but when it comes to eating out, or eating at all, I prefer to put things into my body that I know are good for me. The fact that there are no animal products in their food is a total bonus with me. I had the Mac and Yease with a green salad, and my daughter had a tofu sandwich with fries. We were both loudly going "num num num" through each other's meals. She is a vegetarian, and believe me it is hard to find place where the two of us can share a meal out around here. What a treasure. Great food!!! Slow service and business hours that are a bit short, but the servers are very friendly and accomodating. Good food and nice people, that is really what is important. I would love to give the place a decorating makeover to give it the ambiance that it deserves, but hey, when you go to a place with food that is this amazing, the decor becomes pretty unimportant. You gotta try this place!

Finally I went here when they were open! This was the 3rd drive-by that I had to do but it was worth the wait. I tried the BBQ burger w/ side of spicy fries & black beans & rice. MMMM! It was so tasty! Granted, it isn't 'healthy' but the burger was delicious which is why I gave it the thumbs up.

I guess the owner is cooking alone & since he looks in his 70's I'd give him a break on the slowness. Plus, anything good is worth waiting for. I also noticed that he wasn't particularly outgoing or talkative but I think that is just who he is, but his smile rocked :)

Today when my sandwich was delivered I mentioned to my wife that I was a little bummed that it didn't come with the potato salad I thought was the side dish on the menu. I had forgone ordering a side of mac & yease knowing some good ol' vegan potato salad would really hit the spot. And then she said, "I think it's in your sandwich."

No joke, the potato salad was on my seitan steak sub. I can really get behind an idea like this. In fact, I nominate it for president of ingenious. That sub was tremendously good, like every meal I've had at the various Quickie's locations.

But a completely vegan restaurant in Tacoma? This is something of a vegan miracle. It doesn't just get five stars for being the only vegan restaurant around, Quickie Too really earns it. Mmm.

Tacoma and the surrounding area is one of the least vegetarian friendly places I've ever been...

Quicke Too is an oasis of vegan food in hostile territory. Yes, the service is not the best, its almost a catering outfit that also has walk-in customers. The food is a bit on the greasy side if you are fat conscious. However it is BOMB! I'm not the fat type so I can deal with it. You ever heard of jacky jasper? http://www.diaryofahol... i don't know why I included this address but whatever back to the review:

Its a cafe atmosphere with lots of vintage reggae concert posters, but this place is about the food. Brunch on the weekends is interesting, but I'd prefer the sandwich menu. They serve vegan style biscuits and gravy, pancakes, etc., I guess I'd go back for that now that I think about it... damn, I'm hungry now!

However, otherwise this place is brilliant. Ital. delicious. I would go there often if it were in my home town.

This part of the U.S. needs a diet make-over, Quickie's is the place to start?

This spot is local, family-run, and laid-back rasta food (nearly ital food). It's worth repeating: don't be fooled by the exterior. This is *not* a washed-up fast food spot. This is not health food. This is delicious, soulful, finger-lickin' vegan food on its best behavior. They send their sandwiches all over, to PCC and the Oly food coop, etc., but I've only ever eaten the sandwiches here. However, this popularity should be motivation for you to stop by.

I shared a number of dishes with my date, including some sandwiches, side dishes like the mac n yease, and a cookie/ice cream desert. Much of the food is smoked, curried, and spiced to perfection. It might make your head spin. Most main dishes are centered around tofu, tempeh, or seitan, but they are different enough to avoid getting lost in a fake-meat blur. The potato salad was so delicious we still talk about it. We also had some delicious beverages here, although I can't remember what they were - some kind of special lemonade, maybe?

This is a great spot for a date if you and your date have a lot to talk about. The wait can be lengthy (they are actually cooking your food, be patient) and the ambiance is sparse, so don't count on anything making conversation for you. You might just be on your own, flailing to connect with a stranger over reggae music turned up loud. I think we ended up talking about how we became vegetarians, but all I can remember is how attractive my date looked across the table in the bright afternoon sun. If you are enamored of a person and your conversation flows freely, if you both enjoy delicious rasta food and are at least open-minded to vegan food, and if you have a little time to spare, then Quickie Too is too perfect.

I would be happy to eat my way through the entire menu, but it might take me a long time. This food fills you up, and sticks to your bones for hours. And the prices are so good - why aren't they open 24 hours and located in Olympia!?!

Ok. The service isn't the best but in a strange way that adds to the charm. But OH MY GOD. The most carnivorous person I ever met told me he had the best sandwich he's ever had here. I COMPLETELY agree. I'm looking at the pictures below this textbox and am salivating. Hoping that they will maybe open a place in the Bay Area where I've relocated to or, even better, maybe they'll start a franchise business! I'll totally start that shit up down here! I'm sure it can blow any vegan food anywhere else in the universe out of the water. Tacoma Quickies chefs/owners... you are my gods. The things you do with tofu make me quiver.

Simply put, Quickie Too is expertly and perfectly executed vegan cuisine.

And I'm not even vegan. Or even a vegetarian. Just a foodie who respects expertise and demands that high-calorie food ALSO be high in flavor and densely nutritious.

Yes, yes. Quickie Too's sister locations (Hillside Quickies Vegan Sandwich Shop and Hillside Quickie's Cafe) in Seattle are comparable flavor-wise and fine in a pinch.

But Quickie Too in Tacoma, Washington is in a different class entirely.

Again.

We are talking about expertly and perfectly executed vegan cuisine.

No sloppiness.

Ever.

No off-days.

Ever.

Is expertise and perfection too much to ask for?

Apparently not at Quickie Too (supplier of pre-made sandwiches to PCC and Marlene's).

Quickie Too isn't a fancy place. Or a "date place". And it's under-branded and not in a "good part of town".

But the food at Quickie Too will capture your imagination and alter the way you perceive all other food.

Forever.

I also feel compelled to add that my husband, who is THE quintessential carnivore and likes his Peter Luger steak bloody rare, also loves Quickie Too.

Begrudgingly I went to Hillside Quickie for breakfast. My friends (2 vegans and a vegetarian) choose the place due to it's animal friendly menu. Now, I like my steaks blue rare but thought I'd be a pal and sacrifice the pleasure of bacon and sausage to share a meal with friends.

I scoffed at the imitation 'meat' substitutions on the menu and randomly chose the 'Plantation Breakfast'. When it arrived it was an absolute abundance of a vegan breakfast served on a plate roughly the size of a garbage can lid. I dug in, and to my delight, was instantly proven dead wrong about my misconceptions of what a vegan breakfast could be. I ate my words as well as every bite there was and helped my smaller, bird-like friend finish her meal as well.

The service: I felt like I was welcomed home to my old, southern grandma's house. Warm, welcoming, attentive without being saccharin-y or obtrusive.

I can't wait to return and explore their other breakfast options as well as their much praised sandwiches.

Alright, I'm just going to come out and say it -- I like meat. Nevertheless, Quickie Too's food was really quite good -- it's always cool to find vegetarian/vegan food that doesn't seem like it's lacking because it's had to be a conscious choice to exclude meat.  Good food is good food and I gotta call it like I taste it.

I had the BBQ Tofu burger and Elsie had the seitan sandwich.  Both had very complex flavors and were enjoyable meals.

Beyond that, service was slow, the food was pretty expensive for the experience -- moreover, the only time we got a smile from our server is when he saw the tip.  So, I'd rate it at a solid 3.5 stars. Given all the great reviews of the other menu items, I'm guessing we'll be back to give it all another try.

Let's get one thing straight:

I love fish. A lot.

However, I'm a vegetarian.

SO when I went here and saw the Big Fish burger it just had to happen.

I kept saying while eating, "Are you sure this isn't fish? Am I eating fish? Is this a bad prank?"

Yeah, so it was basically amazing.

Service was terrible of course. They took so long to even offer the check that my friend and I just left our money on the table.

But they're super chill vegan rastas, how could I not love them?

I will most definitely be back :]

THE FOOD

First off, I love meat.  Second off, I generally loathe all things vegetarian.  But my wife made me go here.  I had the Jamaican Jerk Tofu Burger (which I thought sounded awful). But I'll admit it.  That was darned tasty tofu.  The photo I uploaded does not do the sandwich justice.  The lighting was just awful and I could not capture its deliciousness.  I have also ordered the Jamaican Jerk Tofu wrap which is also awesome.

The Mac and Yease is a can't miss dish.  While it taste nothing like Mac and Cheese, it's its own dish in its own right.

They also carry a wide range of natural sodas (all your typical Marlene's and Whole Foods brands).

THE AMBIANCE

There is no ambiance.  The place looks like its on its last legs.  Let's face it, it looks like an out of business Dairy Queen in Hilltop.  If this place looked like a Chipotle and was located in downtown Seattle, I think it would be a hot spot.  As is, you just have to get past it because there's just no where they provides food like this in Tacoma.  Also, don't go here when you are hungry because the wait can be long.  Better to call ahead.  But then again, sometimes they don't answer the phone.

I loved this place. Whoever said their "business hours" are questionable, is right. We arrived at 11am (all signs, web, and answering machine says that's when they open) & the entrance was locked, but the kitchen door was open wide. We knocked. I called their phone. No one answered. After getting into the car to drive away, I saw someone emerge from the kitchen to pull the shades and presumably open.  They did!

I don't think anyone has mentioned whether it's child-friendly -- I happened to be there with a 3 year-old. He loved it. The service was a bit slow, but completely worth the wait. Just know you might want to take a diversion  of some kind for the wee ones.  The mac-n-"yease" (I'm not sure what that means) was a hit! When it arrived, sprinkled with herbs, I wasn't sure he would eat it, but he loved it. I had the Jamaican burger, which was quite flavorful. And spicy fries, which were crinkle fries with a nice spicy seasoning. The kiddo loved my food, too.

I have to say, it was like being on vacation. Reggae playing loudly. Service in their own time, though not neglectful or rude. A wonderful little place that makes you forget you're in deepest Hilltop, er, New Tacoma.

The bathroom is outdoors and was a bit cold, but *CLEAN*. :)

The brunch!  Oh my god, the brunch.  Sunday mornings starting at 11 AM.  For a very-reasonable $15, you get a big plate of down-home vegan goodness.  Eggs, sausage, bacon, plantains, everything.  It may just be the best meal in town.

Great food.  Decent price for what you get.  If you think vegan = heathy, try this place to see just how wrong you can be.  But I didn't go expecting healthy food and neither should you.  You should go expecting some the best vegan food around though.  The "burgers" are great, as is the mac and yease (yeast instead of cheese sound bad, but give it a shot... it's great).  The burgers are tasty and filling.

My first exposure to Quickies Too was the Crazy Jamaican burger.  It is a divine culinary experience.  I have been back several times for the Sunday brunch, which is just as delicious - no problem leaving an empty plate.  I also had their vegan Thanksgiving feast to go, which I *highly* recommend - with the amount of food they gave me I had leftovers for days.  This is a family owned restaurant and the staff is very friendly.  A vegan's delight!

Being a non meat eater I am incredibly biased but I have taken plenty of my carnivorous friends here and they have loved it: Quickie Too (Also known as Hillside Quickie) makes the most incredible vegan soul food I have ever had in my life.  And I have had vegan soul food all over the country.

The ingredients are fresh and usually organic, the portions are generous and the because the food is so beautiful all on its own, the presentation intices immediate mouthwatering.

There is no where else in Tacoma where you can go and get a HUGE Jamaican burger with layered tempeh and freaking fried plantains.  It is so undeniably incredible and so incredibly delicious, I feel lucky to have Quickie within walking distance.

Don't let the wierd exterior fool you, its not some retired ex fast food chain; inside, its warm, plastered with reggae posters and you can always count on either jazz or reggae enhancing the ambiance (my favorite is when they're playing the reggae for kids album).

This is a family run business so you will very quickly begin to recognize faces and this family is amazing- they are obviously crazy talented chefs but they're also open hearted and kind.  And if you find a less then warm reception on your first time but you liked the food, just go back again- they'll remember you and you should keep in mind that your building community here!  Once is not enough!

I often call ahead because the hours aren't totally reliable and if you're in a hurry, this is not the place to stop in for a quick bite but if you have the time and appreciate deliciousness, this is definitely your kind of place.  I have never had anything on the menu that I didn't like, they make a ridiculously phenomenal Sunday brunch starting at 11am and make sure to check out their side dishes- all good, especially the mac and yease.

Do yourself a favor and GO.  Now.  I can't stop saying good things about it.

I am not vegan, but the food here is pretty good.  I enjoyed the fries and the BBQ sandwich that is made out of some meat substitute stuff.  Let me just say that unfortunately I don't have one of those hearts that cares about animals.  Don't get me wrong, I never want to see an animal mistreated, but the entire time I was eating that sandwich I kept thinking this would be so damn good if it was some brisket instead of whatever this crap is, but it was still good.  I am not a fan of mac and yease, I'm just not, but the best was the soft serve soy ice cream.  Now that was great since I can't really have dairy.  The only thing about this place is that it is open only sometimes, it has really strange irregular hours.  Plus the man who makes the food doesn't look like he washes his hands very often, which scares me, but I guess it is okay.  The potato salad was good as well.

best and most unique restaurant in the world.  and it's tacoma's only veg restaurant!  i've been going here since before the restaurant was officially open, when you had to check for the van and knock on the door to see if they'd let you in.  and our animal rights groups would schedule dinners there.  i guess since 2003?

once my birthday planned a surprise party for me there with all our friends and she arranged for Quickies to make a custom chocolate peanut butter cake that was amazing.  They also catered a couple vegan banquets at the university.

Anyway, I've known the owners all these years and they are incredible people.  Their family runs this restaurant and two in Seattle.  So the owners are amazing and the food is incredible and now I live in California and miss Quickies so much!  But we're visiting soon and Quickies is one of two restaurants on our list of absolutely essential things to do when we're there.  I have many fond memories here and it's been great seeing the restaurant change over the years and open to be a full-on restaurant and to see the variety of customers come in and try it.  Oh and their homemade vegan ice cream is the best ever!

QUICKIES ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to Quickie too for the first time on Saturday and before I could even swallow my first bite of my TLT with tempeh I knew I was in love.

It's so simple yet so complex.  They know how to use their spices and seasonings!

I've heard Sunday brunch is incredible.  I'll be there to try it soon!
