Their lunch special is so solid. You get a pita, fries, and a can of soda for $7.00. The fry portion is enormous and the beef Shawarma pita I got was awesome.
They're also open really late, so I guess if you go to Georgetown or live in the neighborhood this is a great late night stop as well.
Not sure why people get all excited about this place. It's still $5.23 for a small pita with some hummus on it. That's 5 McChicken's, or 4 McDoubles, or one good slice of pizza, or 2 mcflurry's, or a couple of water bottles, or a cool new pair of socks, or 4 short rides on the metro.
Their saving grace is that they are Lebanese, and they have paintings of cedar trees in the snow hanging around the store. Lebanon is my favorite country in the Middle East, because they have Arabic christians who carry guns that are paid for by you, dear reader, the American Tax Payer. They also have cool hummers and shit. Apparently, they suck at fighting though.
To increase the deficit with iran, buy some $1.8 Ayran yogurt drink here, a salty yogurt that will surely displease all girls that love Mr. Yogato.
In Beirut I went to a lot nicer places than Quick Pita, where they tried hard to give me American style service and air conditioning and big soft cushy seating. Veiled girls and hot Lebanese women were enjoying it along side me. In Quick Pita I was merely accompanied by a fat blonde christian, you know the type that just wants ANOTHER quick pita.
Mediocre.
I'm shocked that Quick Pita has 4 stars!!! I've gotten wraps here (late night) many times and I never enjoy them, despite my late night cravings for food. I think they are dry and bland.
Decent for what it is, inexpensive, open late ect ect. But lately I have noticed that the kabobs have gotten much much smaller, more dried out, with less of the radish or other types of things they used to put in. Also, the people running it seemed to have gotten more surly over the years, and less caring about the overall quality. Oh, and no more bathroom either, a necessity if you are there late-night because everything else is closed anyway. All good things must fade, and fade quick pita has indeed.
This is a Georgetown Medical School favorite that I learned about. It's good, fast service, decent atmosphere for home-made food, and the food ingredients are authentic and fresh. Who cares if it's just sitting on small chairs an countertops when all the restaurants within a block are five times the cost right in the same Georgetown neighborhood.
This place is always great during late nights or when you want a quick bite. The prices are reasonable and the sandwiches are yummy. I generally order the vegetarian sandwiches but when I'm feeling 'meaty' I'll order the Gyro. I am never disappointed. Although they are a tad smaller compared to the other ones in the area, the flavor is good. It can get pretty slammed and annoying when the bars and clubs are closing up. So try and refrain from going during those times, unless you want to watch people act a fool up in a tiny small space. Eh.
Oh Quick Pita! how I miss you! The best feeling in the world is after a long night of drinking going to Quick Pita, ordering the chick shawarma and sitting on the steps in Georgetown with your friends. My sister lovesss this place! Their hummus is gross and their fries are ALWAYS soggy but they make the BEST shawarmas! My friends and I could not survive college (and the years after college) without this place. Their delivery is "ok" but this is my opinion on their delivery from 6 years ago. They are fast but so incredibly busy sometimes that it CAN get slow in terms of getting your food. This is a "fast food" joint so don't expect the best of the best. They are the pita pros.
I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in May (go heels). I hadn't found any really good late-night food until after last call weekend, on a rampagingly hungry stomach, my boy ushered me into Quick Pita.
Frickin' fast.
Frickin' delicious.
Frickin' cheap.
I will be returning. Many times.
This place is like f'ing Mecca. Shish ta Wook and Quick Pita Special. I prefer Tabasco as accompaniment.
I live in San Diego, but hit that place if I'm even anywhere on the east coast. I say my prayers facing toward quick pita...
I love the crowds in there late night. Persian mafia meets G-town undergrad. Legit.
YEEEEAH BOYEEEEE I'm a fan.
Try the garlic infused pita...it's heavenly. And for $5 in Georgetown?! Unheard of.
Opened REAL late. like 2am late. That's enough for five stars.
This place is there for you rain or shine, drunk or sober. Middle Eastern - just the style and specialty of this restaurant give me an eye-opening and refresing experience. Quick Pita is also open late to accommodate those who like to burn their candle at all hours. The exotic little world of delicacies is renowned for its sandwiches. Seats are limited so better avoid lunch hours.
SETTING:
6pm, Saturday, December, warm out, a few sets of regulars (couples and groups) stopped in to order and/or say hello and a family ordered for take-out.
**Review based on knowing it is primarily a late-late-night, college-town take-out place and therefore they work within the confines of economy and the way some patron behave.**
STAFF:
Friendly and helpful. Conversational if you like.
CUISINE:
-Tried the Falafel. Yum, yum.
- A gent will want to order two based on size. (They are not the size of a typical plated enchilada. Not a dis, just the truth, as perfectly-sized for a post-bike-ride famish lady. )
- As with most Med. cuisine, there are quite a few veggie options.
- Can spice it up to taste.
DRINKS:
- Sodas including Orangina
- a few hard-to-find-elsewhere fruit drinks.
DECOR:
- Very, very chill place.
- Seats 7-8 at wrap-around bar areas.
- Ask about the quaint, framed painting on the left.
- Note the charming tree painting on the right.
RESULT:
Will go again.
Worthy of: a quick bite, need-for-food-pre-movie, with chill friends whoh are up for only a chill place (no more than 4 or so for seating-sake), family if need and game for very, very chill eating-on-the-go and really want Med. cuisine, high-school-style date, late-night-college-style.
Wonderful little joint to take a break in the middle of a heavy duty shopping day in Georgetown. It's right across the street from Georgetown Cupcakes. The lamb kabob sandwich was very reasonably priced and delicious. My mouth is watering thinking about it!
who wants to be stuck studying on a saturday?
not me.
grabbed a friend and dragged her around georgetown.
i've been craving the pita for a while and got their lunch special
sandwich, fries and a soda for 6.86 plus tax.
i was stuffed.
i got the kafta and she got the chicken shawarma. i also got another kafta to go for the boy.
love watching the lines of people waiting across the street for the georgetown cupcakes and it never fails that one of the customers asks the guy at the back of the counter what the hype is all about. i wonder how many times a day he has to answer that question.
until next time.
2.75 Stars
It's decent. There's not much that's quick and open late in Georgetown, so it works as drunk food...but not if you've crossed that line into queasiness and need some grease to coat your stomach. Stay away from the chicken though; it's rather dry.
Unless you've consumed copious amounts of liquor at nearby establishments and all other available options are closed, it's meh.
Then again, to remain open as late as they do merits recognition.
Important to note when ordering Quick Pita.
- I don't know what Quick means. It doesn't have anything to do with the delivery times. No, really, they're slow, which means you need to be sober enough to stay awake a good 45 minutes or more to get your food.
- Ask for extra pitas.
- Eat the Tabouli.
- Seriously, you need to ask for extra pitas
- Falafel good, beef shawarma is great.
- Very good, reasonably priced food. Go for it.
Given the usual circumstances I eat here (after a night of drinking at 3am), the food is tasty.
I always get the Shish Ta Wook and as them to make it "hot" (aka drown it in Texas Pete Sauce). Chicken Shewerma is great too.
Food is cheap and as the name implies, "quick."
If you're more patient, the food at nearby Prince Cafe (Marjan) is better, but lacks the drunken undergrad atmosphere.
I can't believe I've never Yelp'd Quik Pita. I'm not sure what this stuff tastes like sober and I'm not sure you're supposed to go here unless you're under the influence. I've been going here for years after one or seven drinks.
I used to love the shishtawook (basically a shwarma with hummus) but now it's always the steak and cheese on a pita. Don't mistakenly order it on a regular sub roll. The fries are great too. I always order my own or two if friends are with me. I'm greedy when it comes to fries, what can I say?
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this place was horrible! I ordered delivery and 1 hr 15 min later it came. The falafel was OK, it was pretty dry and there definitely was not enough sauce. I had a side of pita, which was thin and dry. Then the part I was looking forward to was the rice pudding. I opened it up and was hesitant because it smelled like cleaning supplies. I tasted it and so did my boyfriend, and it tasted like bleach. I don't know if this is normally how it tastes or if someone was trying to poison me, but I called the restaurant and complained (which i never do usually).
I do NOT recommend this place because the food quality was bad and the dessert tasted like bleach.
Ok you McDonalds fans that have eaten here and given dear Quick Pita lower than 4 stars...try it sober! ;)
It's actually quite tasty - and the staff is so friendly. It's quite the healthier alternative to 2am cheese steak factory.
Bleh. Quick Pita. Whatever.
They deliver late, their food is ok. I really don't like their hummus (until I added salt), but the chicken shwarma sammich is quite satisfying.
Their delivery men are COMPLETELY oblivious, so have no worries about your state of mind when you order from Quick Pita (even if its 3 am and your boyfriend has dared you to run down the hall in only your undergarments and you find the delivery man you just called ALREADY STANDING AT YOUR DOOR). They are quite understanding, and for that I give them all the stars in the world (but still, really only 2).
Late night food here in DC is a scarcity- if you don't feel like pizza or a philly cheesesteak it is implicit that you will go to bed hungry. That is, unless you know about the "Quick Pita".
I have been to the Georgetown location several times, however had no idea what their delivery radius was. Finally, one very late night out of desperation, I called them to see if they would be willing to deliver to my home in Dupont. Much to my surprise they were happy to.
Further to my surprise- they showed up at my door step in 16 minutes flat.
The food, as always, was darn tasty. I had the falafel sandwich which was hearty and smothered in some sort of yogurt sauce (a bit heavy on the sauce but otherwise fine). My boyfriend had 2 chicken cheesesteaks. While they did screw up the order and give him the cheesesteaks instead of the chicken shawarma as requested, he didn't seem to have too many complains about the food.
Overall I dig this place and am happy to know that I have a late night middle-eastern delivery option.
3 Stars only because there's nothing really open late in Gtown.
Too small, too many drunk people (I would never stand in line sober to order anything off the menu) and the wait time is pretty long. It's decent if you have a car full of hungry people late night but I wouldn't ever recommend this place to someone for a "quick" or "cheap" meal.... beacause simply it isn't that good. The chicken is so dry I almost choked on it, could have been my own stupidity though ;)
Not recommended. Go to Chipotles instead :)
This place delivers $5 Quick Pita Specials to you at 3am.
HELL YEAH!
What we're gonna do right here is go back,
Wayyyyy back,
Back into time...
::: end Blackstreet throwback :::
Lets just go back to Friday night. It's 3 AM, you're belligerently drunk, and you bear a striking resemblance to Medusa's cousin. Georgetown seems like one big blur right now as you stumble around with your little entourage screaming, "OH MY GOD, I'M STARVING!! FOOOOOOD! I NEED FOOD!" M street's options are starting to look real weak... and then you peek around the corner of Potomac... lo and behold! There's the little green awning that brings a dumbfounded smile on your face. Mmmm, Quick Pita!
Simply divine pita goodness - you CANNOT go wrong here. Chicken, beef, lamb, veggies... anything you want, wrapped up in hot pita bread with an unexplainable out-of-this-world sauce. My personal favorites? Chicken shawarma and falafel sandwiches. Just close your eyes, take a bite, and be prepared with lots of napkins.
It isn't exactly a place where you can sit and dine with a group of people, especially when the lighting is bright enough to reveal every single pore on your face. Instead, take your grub and go sit out by the waterfront... if you dare to stumble your way down there.
Amazing food for ridiculously cheap prices until the weeee hours of the morning... the drunken life doesn't get any better than this.
Circling around Georgetown one night w/ 2 drunken friends shouting/cat calling pple at 2am looking for this place, we finally stumbled across it by sheer luck :) Thank goodness they stay open so late, otherwise as DD i'd be in a lot of trouble if i didn't get these two characters fed.
In any case, we ordered the Chicken Shawarma and true to the legendary tales - it was SO GOOD!!! I loved the oozing garlic yumminess that could scare vampires into submission. Definitely want to go back and try out some more!
The best thing to order here by far is the falafel sandwich -- it tastes awesome and they do a really good job with it. The inside is really small and there are only about five or so stools, making it more of a take out kind of place.
I've noticed it's very popular with cabbies, because it's open super late most nights. The fries are seasoned and are actually freaking awesome. They also have good baklava and other Mediterranean specialties like spinach pie.
Overall, their food is excellent, considering it's made so quickly. If you're in Georgetown late at night, you don't have too many options, so if you want good food that's not a chain or really bad for you this is a good place to go.
Every time I go - chicken shawarma and an order of cheese fries and a can of diet coke. The sharwarma (or gyro as it's known on Greek, Turkish and Persian menus) is dripping in flavorful hummus, tahini, onions and perfectly cooked chicken (or get beef). The cheese fries are amazing - you know those hearty, thick fries you can usually only find at state fairs? And the cheese on top is a nicely spread white cheese - not that day-glo orange crap you usually see on cheese fries. Cheap, cheap, cheap and delicious!! The main counter guy also recognizes me every time I go, even though I go rarely. I like that - any place that serves up amazing, cheap food and makes me feel special is my kind of place!
Quick Pita. Yep, that basically says it all. The food is fast, and they deliver, too. Pita=simple middle-eastern style bread. Nothing special in the way of eats here, but it is something to fill you up in a time of crisis. This whole place is basically stream-lined to serve drunk or stoned celebrants/Georgetown students. The last time I was there, all I did was zone out on that painting on the wall of a snowy day, and before I came to, my falafel was ready. Wrapped in foil just the way I like it.
There are no tables here, probably because they want the drunkards in and out as fast as possible. Once I took a first date here, for some reason, and we actually had a nice, sober conversation, sitting along the wall-counter. Best of all, the prices are affordable.
Would be 5 stars, but the food is just not that good.
QP is the only reason to go to Georgetown. The *only* reason to enter that pit of pathetic wannabe depravity. It's that damn good.
And, seriously, you don't even need to be drunk to enjoy their food (although most people, you know, are). Grab yourself a shwarma and let your taste buds dance-- elsewhere, as the store is itty bitty and most of the time people there are looking just a tad worse for wear.
My only complaint... they stopped serving those little taco looking things filled with cheese and topped with rosewater (nice description there. I'm such a gourmand). Those things were the bomb. And if anyone knows what they were called, would you please tell me so I can ask about them? I only like to embarrass myself with my sad descriptions to the entire internets... not to those nice, patient dudes at QP. OK then. Thanks.
UPDATE nine months after I wrote the first review below: Quick Pita has improved a little, and I've increased its stars. First they found a very nice woman to answer the phone sometimes, and second the food improved a little bit (or else I caught it at a bad time earlier).
But they are still bizarre about not wanting callers to ask for an order "to go." Try it! Call up, and if you get a man, clearly say you want your order to go. He'll say "You mean carry out?" I think it would be hilarious if all yelpers would ask for food to go, and when he corrects you, cheerfully say "No, not carry out, TO GO." (Although it might start a war.) Original review below.
*****
I called one night and asked for an order to go. He said "You mean carry out?" I said yes. He shouted "Then say that! Don't say to go!" I squealed (partly out of fear) and hung up.
Another time I went in, and the man behind the counter waited on all the men in the place before turning to me, including two who came in after me. That's when I finally figured it out. These guys respect men, but not women. To test my theory, I later went in with my brother, and they treated him like a prince.
If you're male, this place will work for you. If you're female, 'Surrender Dorothy!'
Solid late night Gyro stopover. Only wish the gyros were bigger...like women, I recommend two at a time.
This is my lunch spot of choice if I find myself in Georgetown on the weekend. Needless to say, I do not get out to Quick Pita that often.
When I do, though! Man, it's delicious. The falafel satisfies my criteria for what a falafel should be: hot and moist. The hummus complements the falafel perfectly, too. The service is prompt, but not too prompt--they cook to order.
The prices are a steal and it's off the beaten path so the yuppies are nowhere to be found. The place is small, though, so don't assume there will be seating.
Like before mentioned many a time, this is a fairly decent place to grab something to eat on the cheapest of cheap.
I must comment on the hummus sandwich though. Keep in mind: hummus is possibly my favorite food. I would eat it with a spoon. Hence I ordered the hummus sandwich. This is described as a pita with hummus, slices of tomato, and cucumber.
They. put. so. much. hummus on it. To the point that I, one of the most intense hummus lovers around, begin spooning it off.
Then again, no harm done. All you need is a spoon and it's dece.
You could also be uber cheap / thrifty, and spoon that extra into a plastic container. You could make at least 2 more sandwiches out of it.
A quality 3 am eatery in georgetown. (Not bad for lunch either)
How many places can you go in and order the name of the restaurant and be totally satisfied? I really should explore the menu further, but the quick pita itself has amazing marinated chicken. And fries inside the pita for some reason.
I also have to shout out the guys who work there...great customer service.
UPDATE: I've tried several other options on the menu now. All good, including the falafel.
[+]
a/ affordable
b/ opens late, hence good after-drinks food on weekend if you are craving something else than pizza.
c/ good vegetarian options (they have good meaty choices as well)
Awesome. Whenever I make it back to DC, Quick Pita is a must.
I love quick pita. I love their chicken shawarma sandwiches enough that when driving back across country from LA, coming off a non-stop burn from Chicago, and totally exhausted at three in the morning; though I could have been home in ten minutes, my friend and I took a major detour to go to Quick Pita first. I love that they are open till 4 something, I love the food, and I love that they'll go nuts if you try to go upstairs.
I'm fairly sure that the Shawarma monster-- the origin of all shawarma-- lives upstairs, and should anyone compromise the security of it's containment, DC would never be the same.
People from out of town often freeze In-N-Out and ship it home after visits to LA. Friends of mine and I have been known to travel with Quick Pita back to LA in just the same way.
Best place to go in Gtown after a long night of drinking and you need to satisfy that drunken hunger. Nothing better than late night food that is good and cheap! Order any of the shwarmas or the falafel. Makes me miss home already!!
I've only ever ordered delivery from this place. I have also only ever ordered the gyro because it's just that good. It's not huge, but it's really good, especially at 2am. They take credit cards, which is great, and the delivery is usually relatively quick. They have a delicious hummus, and I've tried the chicken shwarma before and thought it was awesome. For late night delivery, this is the place to go.
