Quenchers is my favorite bar in Chicago, hands-down. I always enjoy it, regardless of it's on a weekday at 4 pm ot a Saturday at midnight. It is consistent; has a solid beer selection, surprisingly good food, free popcorn, unpretentious staff, live music just about every night, and reasonable prices (range from 2.50 and up, always a special tap-beer for $4). I actually have never reviewed Quenchers, after a few years of living near it, because I fear it becoming too cool.
Honestly, it has everything I could ever want in a bar and everyone I take to Quenchers leaves saying: Wow, that place is surprisingly awesome. Quenchers is an understated gem. -
Review from Ann B.
I went to the Quenchers Saloon for a fundraiser for my sister and brother had. The fundraiser was help in the back room separate from the front main bar, next to the bathrooms and the outdoor patio.
The fundraiser was great, supplied food and boozy snow cones (amazing) but I wanted some beer. There was no servers, just the bartenders.
So moving into the main bar I noticed that the bartenders were not very pleasant nor really acting like they wanted to be at their job. When I finally got their attention, (not that busy at the main bar BTW) I was asking questions about the many beers they had. I got attitude, rolled eyes, and cold shoulders. It's a cash only bar which I understand being a business owner but don't understand because I'm a business owner.
Threw the day I was being patient and just happy to be with my family that day so I just let the attitude roll off me and was enjoying the company of good friends.
Unfortunately because of the service at the bar I will not be back at the establishment. I was so disappointed that such a positive event was based out of a grumpo bar. Honestly not even worth getting into more of a complainy review about.
Save your money and go down the street. -

Went there for Belgian Beerfest (Chimay White... MMMmmm), and was pleasantly surprised by the decent reuben I ordered! The sauce was the perfect amount of tangy and spicy; way better sandwich than I expected. (Although, I should mention that the loaded tater tots that my boyfriend ordered did not look so good.)
Good laid back place to go to try some great beers on tap (Zombie Dust served here, FYI). I'll probably come back when it's warm to sit out on the patio! -

I went to Quenchers for the first time while on a first date. I really liked this place. The atmosphere was good, the bartenders were good, the beer was good.
I was there on a Wednesday night, so it wasn't really crowded. It started getting crowded when a band started playing. There's an extensive list of beer that they have which is quite intimidating, but I imagine it's great for beer lovers. I'm not a huge fan of beer, but luckily they had hard cider on tap which is a rare find. I'm not sure what brand the cider was, but it was really good.
There was free popcorn which I think is great, especially if you plan on drinking a lot. Even if you're not drinking a lot, it's nice that there's something to munch on.
The bathrooms were also really clean (any sort of alcohol goes straight through me). This is really important since I hate dirty bathrooms. Plus they had really nice TP, which I totally don't expect in any sort of public bathroom. It was at lest double ply, maybe even three ply which is really impressive.
The parking was amazing too. I'm horrible at parking (I grew up in Las Vegas, and there is virtually no street parking in Vegas, and all parking was free). Generally, when I'm trying to find parking in Chicago, I have mini panic attacks because I'm so bad at street parking. This was not a problem at Quenchers. There is tons of street parking. Best of all, parking is free! You can't beat that!
Anyway, the layout of the place is really nice. There's a lot of open space where the bands play which is nice, and then there's also ample seating near the bar area, too. I'd probably come back to this place if I'm ever in the area. And after reading some of these yelp reviews, apparently I really need to try the tater tots. -

All I have to say is: Stoutfest 2012. Approximately 25 different stouts throughout the month of January just begging you to try them. With faves that include Allagash Black and Avery Brewing's Czar Imperial Stout, you drink five in a grouping and get the sixth free (bonus)! You can even tag team your effort to get to the freebie faster. In other words, Quenchers may offer a high liklihood of alcohol induced trouble, but it's SO utterly worth it.
Simply put, this place has a ton of beer and it's damn good. Add to it very friendly staff, and lots of good time folks enjoying brews, and it's easily five star quality. It may be a hole in the wall ---but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be nearly as appealing if it weren't. You come to enjoy the high quantity, high quality brew, everything else is just fluff. -

we went to quencher's to celebrate my brother's birthday and catch a friend's band. i'm not sure how i missed this place when i still lived in chicago, but dang... it's pretty rad.
this is why: the cover was only $5 to see three bands. they have an ah-MAZING international beer list. and it's spacious.
if you like beer and music, this is a great spot worth checking out. -
Review from Joe B.
Ok have you been looking for a place where everyone knows your name? Where an awesome bartender can really recommend a good beer then remember you the next tiem you visit? This would be the place.....
The cool thing about it - is that its actually a respectful spot for world beers.. just check out the chalkboard above the bar and pick a favorite.. of course I would recommend Pilsen or Crystal :) from Peru and if you are lucky Cusquena -
Review from Chuck K.
Have to say I was a tad disappointed by this so-called dive bar.
Great set up for bands, but the service was extremely slow. They have a huge beer selection, but you're going to pay for it. There wasn't one beer cheaper than $4.
Free Popcorn and CASH ONLY!
Just don't get your hopes up about this place, that's all I'm sayin!!! -
Review from Ericka A.
I'm not entirely sure what I expected from Quenchers, but it wasn't what I got and I'm OK with that. I think I thought it would be a bit bigger, a bit more expensive and dirtier. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could actually afford most of the beers and that they had such a huge selection. The bartenders were fast and friendly, which are two great qualities when you're down to consume mass quantities of alcohol.
They were able to accommodate all of us from Beer Appreciation Society and even gave us an extra special on the side. They answered all the questions I had about different beer and one of the workers even gave me a complimentary beer when I emptied the weakest excuse of a pour into my glass. It was literally overflowing and half head. He said, "Hmmm, I probably should have done that for you." To which I classily replied, "Yea, you f***ed that one up." Of course, I had to follow that with a "I'm just kidding. I suck at this and I'm sorry I got beer all over your bar." I wouldn't have been surprised if he had given me a sigh, rolling of the eyes and a look that says, "great, another intoxicated suburbanite," but he didn't and I love him for it.
So, five beers later I confirmed that I love the pilsner taste of Karlovacko from Croatia, Scotland does hops right, and Downtown Brown is a delicious dark. There's something here for everyone, but I still question the sanity of anyone willing to pay $8 for a snifter glass of grain.Listed in: Beer Me Up, Scotty!, Beer Appreciation Society

Review from Ed A.
It was another night at Quenchers for beer appreciation. There was a good crowd and well behaved at that. Of course, only about a third of the people showed up who actually confirmed to be there. But, no matter.
I tried some new Mexican beer which was damn good before falling back on my usual cheap selections. What can I say, I'm on a budget.
I met some new people, which was nice. But, like always, a good portion of the bar was blocked off or difficult to get access without causing major congestion problems and having to unintentionally crush some toes.
I don't know why but whenever I come to this bar I lose my voice within an hour's time. It's probably due to having to scream so loud to be heard.
I tried the white pizza which is pretty good, although I like at least some tomato sauce on my pizzas. It was good but I don't think I would order it again.
So, good beer, good times... what else could you ask. Well, there's one thing.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Chicago, IL
This a great beer bar with tons of character! Step to the bar.. Old Wooden Beer Coolers with glass windows/ Great old bartop and everything just looks kinda vintage. Beer list is amazing/ I think they have something from like 50 different countries as well as a comprehensive US List. They use a large chalkboard for the US brews that I really like. Taps are ever evolving and they have at least 16 on hand. I've never had the food here but have definitely had the free popcorn! Def a plus... One thing I keep hearing people say is that there's too many hipsters? It's a mixed bag/ last time I sat next to a bum drinking Schlitz Cans! Who cares? Bottom line is it's a great place to have some beers and check out some culture/ Live music usually every night! GTFJD

I can't say enough about Quencher's. My home away from home (sad as that might be).
If you're looking for a beer bar without gross fake-ass hipsters (ahem map room), this is by far the place to go. I only ever get draft beers, so I can't speak for their tremendous bottled selection, but even the 20+ they have on tap is worth shouting about. Couple that with fests celebrating certain beer styles (IPA, stout, etc.) throughout the year, and an encyclopedic bottle selection, and you can't fail.
I know they have shows here, music, comedy, and otherwise, but honestly I come for the beer. It (and the servers I have come to know) is utterly fantastic.
p.s. Free popcorn - and don't forget the Frank's Red Hot doused on top. (Seriously, don't. It's angelic.) -

The best thing about Quencher is the music because it's diverse and usually free. The service, whenever I went to Quenchers was pretty slow, even on less busy nights. I could care less about all of the imported drinks at Quenchers, and the bar's prices are nothing to get excited about.
Quenchers is worth checking out once, possibly twice, but I would not recommend travelling far to get to the bar, because it's not really worth the time unless really good music is on it's schedule. -

I'll make this quick:
*easy street parking
*free popcorn
*friendly bartenders
*unbelievably extensive selection of hard-to-find beers
*good selection of ciders (for those of us that don't drink beer)
*live music
*I've never had a bad time here -
Review from David Z.
Cool place, decent beers. Service seems friendly enough.
It's got a dive bar/biker bar feeling when you're inside, but the beer selection is more Hopleaf-esque. Unfortunately, you may have to wait just as long as you would at Hopleaf for a beer. This is not a good thing. They have food (I had the peanut butter & apple sandwich, which also includes bacon) and it was.....meh. Tater tots were decent, so get those instead of the chips. And just because they have real food, don't expect there to be waitresses. You have to go over to the bar for everything. Be prepared to wait. There aren't many tables, so if you go on a weekend you'll probably have to stand.
Prices seem a bit on the high side, but when you're dealing with really good beers, $10+ for a bottle is not unheard of. Still, you'd better bring plenty of cash since credit cards are not accepted.
I haven't actually been to the bar when there is a concert going on, but I have heard that it can get pretty crowded. The bathroom was barely large enough to handle the early evening crowd, I can only imagine how bad it would be if a band was playing and the place was full.
I'll go with three stars, because of the good beer selection and the fact that the bartenders seemed friendly. But honestly, there are plenty of other places that are nicer and have great beers as well. I certainly wouldn't fault anyone for making this their "go-to" bar, but it's a bit too far away for me to go back on a regular basis. -
Review from Keith A.
Wilmette, IL
I don't know what it is, but it seems like everytime I go here the place is usually lacking a crowd. I'm not a guy who needs a place to be packed, but a decent crowd is nice. Normally that would leave me more lukewarm on a place, but its more than made up for by everything else.
Its easy to get a drink and even though there is usually only one or maybe two bartenders when I've been there, they are always on top of things and have never led me wrong when I've been undecided on what to drink.
The beer selection is very deep. They have a great domestic selection and though they are more belgian heavy, their import selection is absurd with the range of beers.
Quenchers is cash only, but there is an atm right as you walk in -
Review from Kyle B.
It was Halloween weekend. Before stepping through the doors of the aptly named "saloon", I was informed that this place was "pretty hipster." It was. I'm not complaining and, to be honest, after seeing a slew of "Snookies" and other horribly tasteless costumes all night, it was a breath of fresh air to see some creative (though abstract) costume choices. It's not every day you get to enjoy a beer with a business-casual Chewbacca or the real-life Towlie.
The staff was super-friendly offering me tastes of some of the draft beers to make sure I'd want to commit to a whole glass. That's classy. Granted, we got there pretty early so they could afford to give us that luxury, but they were pretty accommodating even after it got a little more crowded.
They have an insane number of beers to choose from. It is arranged by country so you could literally road trip across the world and claim to be "culturally sound" in beer. Like an alcoholic Magellan.
The prices are pretty average. You can expect to pay $5-$6 for an average pint of beer and $8 for a snifter (that's how much my 3 Philosophers and Tripel Karmeliet cost.) Oh, and don't expect to start a tab. This place is cash only. No paper trails. Off the grid. Under the radar.
Did I mention Tater Tot Pizza? Yeah, it's real. I also had a sandwich with turkey, cheese, bacon and apples. It was weird, but oddly satisfying.
Overall if you're looking for a pretty chill hang out spot with some very decent beers, check this place out. If you really want to explore the beer menu, go earlier so you don't look like a fool when it's crowded and you're taking 20 minutes to decide which country you want to go with. That's how World Wars are started. -

Oh Quenchers. I sigh when thinking of your amazing selection of tasty libations.
Let me start by saying Scott and Steve are flipping amazing bartenders. I started the night with Downtown Brown, a lovely dark and rich beer, followed by Lion Imperial Stout. After that I left it up to these two gents to surprise me. What followed was a fan-freaking-tastic stream of yummy delights. Not once did I receive a bottle that I didn't enjoy and keep in mind I can put 'em away. Once the warm weather brews are all released I will paying another visit to these fellas and let them wow me again.

Chicago, IL
Again, for some reason, it takes me FOREVER to go to amazing bars around my neighborhood. Why? I don't know - perhaps laziness - but whatever.
All of that aside, I FINALLY came to Quenchers with a handful of my good friends on a Saturday night. We were on a mission to get the infamous Tater Tot Pizza. Yes - you heard me right. Tater. Tot. Pizza. Two delicious dishes when served separately, but together -- what would it taste like? I was about to find out...
We ordered two tater tot pizzas. They are $7.50 apiece. Each pie is rather small - the size of a personal pizza - and comes with 6 cute slices. The pizza itself tastes like a baked potato and is loaded with bacon, green onion, and cheddar cheese toppings. The pizza originally comes with a side of sour cream dipping sauce, but they apparently ran out of sour cream that night so we got a side of ranch instead (which is infinitely better, in my opinion).
Aside from that, this place has the biggest beer list in all of Chicagoland. They even have beer from Dieu Du Ciel in Montreal!! I've been to Dieu Du Ciel, and they have some of the best brews in North America. I was thoroughly impressed by all of the beer they had on tap and in bottles. I had a $6 bottle of La Fin Du Monde, and their prices are very reasonable, considering their selection.
The atmosphere is great here - although I am not sure where the dbags came from toward the end of the night - the free popcorn (yes, FREE POPCORN), food menu, and beer list is just too fantastic to pass up. The owner is nice, they ring a bell (sometimes) when you tip them, and the location is unbeatable.
I love this place. I am coming back every weekend.
P.S. I FORGOT TO MENTION THE PHOTOBOOTH.
and that they have a ballin' food menu. OMG for real. -

Lincoln Square, Chicago, IL
Cool place for grabbing some drinks and some food. Obviously lots of great beers available and the food does the trick. Has a couple of TV's if you want to catch a game.
The attached music room is a great little venue for live acts. It's a great stage to play on and if you can get 30 or so people to come hear you play, the room seems pretty packed. Great lights, nice elevated stage, not too crowded up there. Only complaint is they need to figure out a way for the band's vocals to sound better. I saw a show there the other night and for all the bands you could hear the music great but couldn't barely hear the singers, if at all.
Can;t wait to get back to Quencher's! -

Chicago, IL
Quenchers has diverse draft beer selections at reasonable prices. When I say "reasonable" I mean "not city" prices. By writing this review, I recognize that the City of Chicago might start taxing Quenchers more just so they raise their beer prices to match other establishments.
Go here if you want a beer you may not have tried, for a price that is manageable if you don't end up liking it. But you will most likely enjoy it. The bar-food menu is interesting, but for a safe and standout staple, I recommend the pretzel. There are two medium-sized soft pretzels in an order accompanied by cheese, mustard, and another sauce I can't recall. These pretzels are glazed with butter and absolutely delicious. I'm not a pretzel-lover, or even pretzel-liker, and I love these pretzels.
The only negatives are that the women's restroom is difficult to maneuver when crowded, and that every time I'm here someone gets hit by a car outside. So please, for your own safety, use caution when leaving the bar. But throw that caution to the wind while you're inside and take advantage of low prices on quality drafts. -

This place is a lot of fun.
HUGE and when I say HUGE I mean GYNORMOUS Beer menu.
There is a place for bands to play on the other side of the bar.
There is a photo booth to capture all of your late night happenings.
This place has places to sit at the bar and at tables.
Beer was served in the appropriate glasses.
Bottled and Draft are available.

Quenchers was our 3rd stop on our mini pub crawl to sample some unique beer. They have a huge chalkboard above the bar with all the beer they serve along with the corresponding country the beer is from. We ordered some food to soak up some of the alcohol consumed earlier, 3 soft pretzels & grilled cheese did the trick. The pretzels & grilled cheese were fantastic but the tots that came with the grilled cheese tasted like generic store-bought. Quenchers is another low key kinda place that I'd stop for a beer at if I'm in the neighborhood

The beer selection?- excellent. The food? Better then expected for a dive bar. It is a rougher, somewhat older crowd then you would normally find in the area. The server is a little slow and not the friendliest- but is good enough.

I've actually seen a rock polka band here, which should say enough about its awesomeness, but that doesn't quite cut it.
Quenchers has possibly the largest beer menu that I've ever seen, and I've never had them tell me that something is out of stock. The food is delicious and the cook feisty.

I was told there would be 300 beers, free popcorn, a band, and a photobooth..."gonna be awesome"
Yea..there are lots of beers. Categorized by country /in chalk/ on a big blackboard menu. A+ selection to be sure... but overwhelming. Good luck deciding if some sht from ukraine is better than sri lankas finest.
As for the band..consisted of an overweight gentleman sitting alone in the back room next to two clarinets on stands. Notes played..0. Maybe we were early
On the plus side, at one pt a group of people near the photobooth broke out in an improptu dance party. Good dancers too. One dude in particular seemed to really "get" lady gaga. Hats off to you lady gaga dude. Thats the kind of thing that makes a place fun
Good place. Lots of beers. Didnt try the tot pizza. That's supposed to be tasty.
How is Quenchers? Not bad..Would I go back? sure why not -
Review from Kate P.
Beer lovers of the world, unite! Quenchers is your one stop international beer shop and I loved every minute of it.
From walking in and hearing Nirvana's "Negative Creep" being blasted over the speakers, to being greeted by the HOT tatted bouncer, to staring at the vast selection of beers I had to choose from for 10 minutes before I broke down and asked the knowledgeable bar tender what he would recommend that was light, summery, with fruity undertones, it was all an amazing experience.
Oh, and when the bartender said I have just the beer for you, he poured me a little glass so I could taste it before I bought it and I loved it! However, me trying to remember it's fancy name after 3 or more of them is hard to do, but I'm going to give it my best shot. *Putting thinking cap on* I think it was the Saison on tap. That's all I can remember at this time, oh well!
I loved the all wood interior and wood coolers, it didn't smell like urinal cakes like some bars in the city do (now that there's no smoking), the vibe was great and in the back they had a band and there is nothing better to go with beer than live music and my PB PB PB sandwich (Many thanks to Helena B. for suggesting this one).
I know you're asking yourself what's a PB3 (Many thanks Kyle H. for this fun name)? Well it's a peanut butter, pineapple and bacon sandwich on multi-grain bread. I know the ingredients don't sound like they'll taste good together, but oh boy, it was most scrumptious! One bite and you'll be hooked too, guaranteed.
Plus, Quenchers is a fun low keyed kind of place to meet up with your yelping friends and meet new people as well. I loved this place and am looking forward to going back soon!Listed in: Best Places for Brew, Thanks for the ROTD love!

Insanely intimidating variety of brews from around the world. Super friendly staff to get you in the right direction with what to try.
You may be best off sticking to one 'style' of beer (so says my headache this morning) despite the fact that the desire to try one of everything will be a hard motivator to resists. A beer from Nicaragua? I'll try that! Another from Peru? Put that on my tab! Wait, wait.... I must try the snooty French lager too! ...and so on.
Rockin' an unpretentious vibe - thanks to the nightly live bands in the back room - and a veritable melting pot of clientele, Quenchers is *the* spot to get your beer on... yes, even you non beer adorers have something to look forward to as well. Banana Bread Beer? Anyone can suck one of these down... a little liquid dessert Ma'am? Don't mind if I do...Listed in: Drink. Drank. Drunk., Beer.

Went back to Quenchers to try the infamous TATER TOT PIZZA. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it ended up tasting like a fabulous baked potato. In addition to the tots, the pizza had bacon, tons of cheddar cheese, green onions, and a tiny bit of tomato sauce. We also got a side of ranch dressing.
As usual, the beer was amazing. It's currently Stout Fest 2011, so that was the theme for the night amongst our friends.
Still love this place, though on this particular night the crowd was surprisingly douchey. Hope it isn't a trend.Listed in: Favorite Bars

Naperville, IL
This place tests my ability, as a human being, to refrain from eating so much popcorn that I puke.
Twice now, I've gone to Quenchers and eaten enough free popcorn that the fake butter coats my tongue, esophagus, and stomach so thick that everything I eat for the next 24 hours tastes like plain Cheerios. True Story. I think I actually developed an aversion to this place where for several months after I come here, if I hear someone suggest Quenchers as the hang out spot, I'll inadvertently gag myself because the popcorn taste comes back in my mouth... same thing that happens when I see a Jager bottle, too. *gags as eyes roll into back of head*
Beyond the popcorn... this place is like adult beverage Epcot center with beers from countries that I didn't know were countries... hell, they might not even be countries... maybe this place is just tricking us? Just kidding, Trix are for kids (another cereal joke). Anyway, go out on a limb and try something new... even if you don't think you like beer, because you might just be surprised.Listed in: Beer Me, Betches.

Quenchers is pretty much one of the best bars in our fair city.
Not only to they have an amazingly vast national and international beer selection, their bartenders actually know about beer and can help make recommendations. For example, "I don't like dark beers that taste bitter. I'm girly and I have taste buds that prefer drinks that are pink and may be served with those little paper umbrellas. What will I like?" And they'll pour you something great like raspberry fomraise. Mission accomplished.
Quenchers is nothing fancy on the inside, so leave your heels at home, ladies. The patrons are chill and like beer. The bartenders know about beer and one of them is tall, hot and has a mohawk. They have live music that could be considered "hipster rock."
I love Quenchers. Can I roll out a cot and sleep in the back? That would make me happy.Listed in: Cocktails, The Wicker Park/Bucktown Bar…, I'm With the Band

Review from Johnny T.
After a particularly satisfying meal of Puerto Rican food, I was in the mood for a post-gorging beer. I was with some good buddies - all of us swinging singles - and we were too full to drive (a common problem). I'd heard much about Quenchers, so we went in for a few beers.
It was pretty empty on a Sunday night. I like that. I needed some room to stretch out and digest. I am a man of cash (despite my yelpin' ways, I like to stay off the grid when it comes to finances), so I was ready for what the bar was offerin'. What I was not ready for was the attitude from the bartender. The convo went something like this:
"Wow. There are beers from all over the world here. Cool!!"
"....."
"Um, I am sorta in the mood for a lager, but maybe not. I have never tried Brazilian beer. Is it a lager?"
"...(sigh)...It's a dark beer."
"Uh, heh, I noticed the Colonel Sanders you have back there. My buddy and I are from Kentucky. He's actually related to the Colonel! Seriously."
"What.do.you.want?"
Some blankets to warm me up from the killer frost! Yikes. And so it went for all of us. My food buzz was gone. I was scared and saddened. I, suddenly, wanted there to be more people. You know, in case the bartender went all From Dusk Till Dawn on us, there would be some fodder I could throw her way so's I could escape. I drank my beer (the Xingu; pretty good), averted the alternating dagger stares/disinterest and hit the road.
I can see how this could be a fun place. But, for a few guys from Kentucky in search of some beer, it was a sorta mean experience.Listed in: Buck Teeth in Bucktown

Thanks to a berry beer event set up by two very lovely lady Yelpers, I was nicely introduced to such a great place to grab some brews!
I started with the Dark Horse Raspberry beer then I tried the Unibroue Apple beer and was happy to have tried both. The Lindeman's lambic was my fave as I ended up having like 5 of them but at least they weren't potent on the alcohol content! Perhaps this was a good thing cause I was headed to a crazy drunken state if they were!
In the middle of my enjoyment of mentioned libations, I was informed by Justin C. that the Cuban Reuben sandwich was awesome and I needed food to help keep me from being a mess. So another Yelper and I shared that sandwich with tator tots and surprisingly, the food was quite good.
I never really put together a must go and have a drink list of bars but I'm gonna have one soon and Quenchers will be somewhere on the top of the list. Live music, good brews and food to boot plus knowledgeable bar keeps makes this place a must go bar! -

Belgians are like, THE most boring people in the World, I shit you not. Brussels? Gettoutta here! And trust me, you'll want to if you ever visit. BUT- they do at least two things right: Chocolate and Beer.
Never met a blonde I didn't like! Leffe Blonde continues the tradition. There were a few other great Belgian beers I can't seem to recall now, and a Sour Cherry one that grew on me between borrowed sips of a Banana Bread chaser. The band next door was old as dirt, but they rocked hard. Loved meeting the new people at Beer Appreciation Society, thanks to Angie and Helena for always planning such fun events. This one? Best Ever.Listed in: Oh, The Places That I'll Go!, These Places Go to 11!, Get Your Suds On

PROS: beer selection
CONS: cash only
Tried the tater tot pizza with high hopes -- it was okay. Not bad, but not as amazing as you might think that combination would be. It was also pretty small and the only thing they had for appetizers to flesh out the meal -- more tater tots.
Beer selection -- incredible. Maybe a dozen taps, lots and lots of bottles. Good mix of types -- not just a Belgian beer bar or an IPA bar. Excellent selection of both foreign and domestic beers.
Cash only -- and there are $16 bottles of beer here, so be sure to hit an ATM first!
Great people watching! There was a great mix of people -- ages, styles, etc. Some small bars develop a "regulars" feel to them, but I never felt out of place here. I can't imagine anyone feeling out of place.
Seemed like a little bit of a walk to any public transit. A bit of a trek to the Metra Clybourn station, at least. Not sure where the "L" was, but it didn't seem real close. We cabbed it from Goose Island.
OVERALL a very good beer bar if you're in the area with cash, but now that I've been there, I think I'll check it off my list and keep exploring... -

Me being the international beer guy that I am, I just had to fall inside of this place and see what all the fuss was about!
When I walked inside I saw lots of people that I know drinking different sorts of beer and since I am now a beer snob I thought hmmmm, why don't I join this spectacular partaking of beer. I enjoyed a couple of Hacker-Schorr and a Sneider-Weiss (I actually had that in Germany when I was there). I checked the menu online and was quite impressed with all the different beer the possess! This is a very dangerous place because I don't know any otheyplace that carries the shit they have here. Lots of peeps were drinking the raspberry beer, which I tasted and it was delish! Bring cash because they don't take the plastic!
I left this place a little while ago and I am wasted as I write this review! Quenchers, you really know how to quench the AW's thirst! Thank you for existing!Listed in: Great Bars, Logan Square, Serious Beer For a Beer Snob

Beer, glorious beer!
300 hundo varieties, including Karlovacko from my beloved Croatia. However, when in Rome (if we're calling Quenchers Rome), I prefer to drink the Belgians or the Germans. What can I say... I'm a loyal enthusiast of their tasty imports!
The bartenders are totally approachable and could twilight as comedians... not sure of his name, but the one reminded me of Justin Long. And after mentioning I was looking for some hints of banana and cloves, he made a great recommendation on a Weiss beer.
As if they could get any cooler--Quenchers features live bands too. Diversity seems to be their schtick--their fat lineup includes everything from rock to jazz and they host open mic nights.
Cash only/free popcorn/right off the 49 Western bus. -

This is the third review in a 4-part series entitled, Big Sexy Gives It Up for Charity.
Quenchers was pretty packed when we arrived. I guess this was to be expected on a Friday night, and it's my biggest issue with Quenchers. I don't mind crowded bars to a certain degree, but when it's so packed that I have to involuntarily brush against some dude's butt on my short walk to get some popcorn, I draw the line. Between the sardine-packed floor space and my inability to hear Destry because of the band playing in the next room, we only stayed for one beer.
That's not to say that Quenchers isn't worth a visit. It certainly is, but I think it's better as a weekday bar. They have a great selection of beers--one of the best in the city--and they are reasonably priced. On a weeknight, the bar is an easy 4 stars.
