Just okay. It's a lot smaller than I had imagined. Also, it's right off a busy street and directly underneath the flight path of jets coming and going to La Guardia. The constant sounds of screaming jets and car horns tend to detract from any serenity you might experience in the gardens.
There was a wedding going on when we were there, so we couldn't enter that part of the gardens. Unfortunately, that's also the nicest part of the gardens. *Sigh*

I don't know if it was because I went there during early spring, but this park kind of sucked. The plants weren't impressive at all, and if you just want to spend a few hours amongst some greenary, Flushing Meadows Park is probably better.

The Queens Botanical Gardens get 5 stars for being FREE and open to the public.
But I'm taking off two stars for a couple reasons. First, there were two weddings going on the Saturday I went and it hampered where regular visitors could go. We kept getting in the way of the photographers, even if we tried to go off into a corner away from the wedding people. And then parts of the Botanical Gardens were blocked off for said weddings.
Second, looked like they're redoing a huge part of the gardens so it seemed really small compared to Brooklyn's.
However, again, it's free and there's a cute herb garden and nice secluded places to sit and chill. The visitor center's architecture is unusual and surrounding it there are signs telling you that the plants are cleaning all the building's water.
If you want that truly secluded, luxurious feeling, go to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and pay the entrance fee. But for the slightly shabbier version, come to Queens.
I was here for a friend's wedding. Unfortunately, it was raining so I did not get the chance to enjoy the outdoors. On the flip side, the main building is beautifully designed. Also, I discovered that they sell very unique jewelry. I picked up a few bamboo bracelets for 5 dollars.
I will return, sometime in the future.
Ok, so I was forced to go here for Biology III, but, if I hadn't been there against my will - I would have loved it.
The trees and flowers are gorgeous, and it's a really nice place to spend a day in the sun :) Plus, it's free and there's a nice size parking lot!

Hi everyone, I am a marriage officiant, and I've had married couples here. I am probably in the minority: I prefer the Queens Botanical Gardens over the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. Although the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens are nicer and a much better place to relax and enjoy a peaceful day, the staff is friendlier and more accommodating here. Also, the indoor space provided in case it rains is totally *green* aka environmentally friendly and has fabulous acoustics. Finally, I've found that couples who obtain their marriage license in the Queens location of the clerk's office receive their certificate much, much faster than if they obtain the license from the Brooklyn office. http://www.elopenyc.com and http://web.mac.com/jlg....
