What?! I haven't written a review about these guys yet? Back in November, I got to work with QMEP for the Yelp Helps event.
These folks came through big time. They took so much of the stress off my shoulders and helped me find the best deals for tables, linens, disposables and even a red carpet. Kit and Jason rolled up their sleeves at the event too. While I was busy running around, directing vendors to their tables, Jason and Kit took it upon themselves to get lighting, sound and tables set up. To work with direction is one thing, but to instinctively know what goes where and how to piece the puzzle together is another.
Before the event, Jason and Kit replied to emails in rapid speed and nearly every phone call had them on the other line. I've worked with a number of event companies and what I appreciate most about Jason and Kit is their easy breezy nature. Always cool and calm, these two make event planning look like a breeze.
Jason and Kit seamlessly shifted between working with a high sense of urgency to making it completely stress and hassle free for me. It ain't a Yelp party unless, QMEP is in the mix. Even if they're not DJing, they're always helpful with lighting, sound, photo and even event rentals. They're downright indispensable at this point.Listed in: East Bay Event Rentals and…, Event Planning, Event Venues

I appreciate the company trying to justify their actions or provide an explanation for their bad review(s). But, when it's sincere, I think it's safe to say that people can recognize that. In this case it looks like they are just trying to cover their own butt.
Just an fyi, I did provide the company with my name, e-mail, address, and phone number. Not only that, the guy on the phone repeated all of that back to me. I would not have hung up and then expect all that without providing them my contact information. I've read previous posts by people that have received poor "pre-service" and if you're reading this, you should too. Do your research. Who knows, maybe it was too last minute? But the guy said they were available for the job.... Maybe it was just a random thing and I got forgotten about. I tend to have that kind of luck.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Alright, so first the caveat, I never used these guys. Now let me tell you why.
Jason, the owner and I had a perfectly pleasant (nice guy) conversation about his services, pricing, the usual. After that he sent me his DJ package. It looked fine. Kit got in touch with me to follow up. I wrote her back asking her if they would be able to meet the price quoted to us by another DJ (a price, mind you, that falls into the average wedding DJ pricing). Suddenly I get an email back from her letting us know that after further consideration they've decided to withdraw the offer. No explanation, nothing. Confused, I look over my email to see if there was any misunderstanding somewhere .. nothing.
Look, I get it if you don't want to work with someone, it's your right, but to brush off a potential client without explanation is unbelievably rude. The sad part is, I have 2 other friends getting married and they would have considered the same DJ had I gone with Quantum. Oh well. Sucks for them. -

So I'm sure this won't come without much controversy (which I try to avoid) but thought I had to be true and update my original review. First, I want to say that our DJ (Jay) that actually performed our wedding did a fine job. Most of the time I was too busy to know what music was playing but everyone seemed to be on the dance floor most of the night, so that says something positive about the DJ.
My negative feedback goes for the owners. The night of my rehearsal, I received a very hostile phone call that clearly stemmed from a miscommunication between us about services. That happens all the time and you usually resolve it like adults. However, I was disgusted by some of the insults that were thrown at me over this disagreement (I had this call on bluetooth b/c it was after my rehearsal and everyone in the car was appalled that I was letting a vendor speak to me in this manner) and I had to be the one to keep the conversation calm and civilized. At the end of the day, I don't think you should ever talk to anyone the way he spoke to me, even less so, to a client. I guess we "worked" it out but not before I showed up to my rehearsal dinner in tears. Thanks Jason.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Jason is awesome. Hire him as your DJ immediately.
For our recent wedding, we first considered using the iPod DJ system, until I realized that without a day-of planner, we needed someone with a microphone to keep things moving. Therefore, one more annoying wedding chore- finding another vendor.
I interviewed a few very cheesy DJs in the Bay Area and elsewhere, ones who suggested All the Single Ladies for the bouquet toss and The Way You Look Tonight for the first dance. Old men who would "show" me how they would announce me and my new husband- as "Mr. and Mrs. His First Name and you have no part in this."
Not my style. Then I interviewed Jason. He is young enough to get music but still manages to give off the immediate impression that he has his stuff together. He is organized, runs his business and I would have trusted this guy with organizing our entire wedding.
He gave us a great price, played the right music, and kept our running-behind wedding on track to get us out the door at the end of the night. He even managed to get most people on the dance floor at one time or another- not an easy project when your guest age spread is 4 months- 85 years.
Now I'm sure if you want the aforementioned cheesy music selections, Jason will agree without making you feel stupid. Either way, he did a perfect job, and for any bride out there- you know how difficult it is to plan a wedding, look for vendors, compare prices. I'll save you the work- hire Jason as your DJ and move on. There are plenty of decisions to second guess with a wedding- this is not one of them.
Thanks Jason!

I am suprised to hear Jenn H complain about Jason. What Jenn H does not know is that Jason is not in charge of making sure people have champagne, if the bride did not pay for the waiters to come out and make sure everyone had champagne befor the toast that was her perogative. People ususally have drinks and can toast with whatever beverage they have at the time.
I just got married 10 days ago and Jason was GREAT!!! he kept me together and rolled with any last minute changes I had. He was professional and listened to my guests whenever they wanted to hear something he played it and kept people out on the dance floor.
In the pre-planning phase Jason met with me near my work 2 times and on my shcedule. I had no idea what I was doing and he made sure I knew exactly what was going to happen that day and had really great suggestions, things I would never have thought of myslef. I also think it is important to get a DJ who is familiar with your venue, which Jason has been working at the JSM for years and the staff and owner know him and work well with him.
Thanks Jason and Kit -

Long story short, QMEP was put in charge of coordinating weddings at Ardenwood where my husband and I got married this June so we didn't technically hire them.
Upon meeting Jason and Kit we really liked them. They were organized, friendly, and professional. We had fairly limited contact with them until a couple of weeks before the wedding when we started getting all of the details set in place. As great as Kit and Jason are, I was a little upset and frustrated at how the week before my wedding was handled. I'll Explain:
Ardenwood is a completely outdoor venue. Being that our wedding was in June, my husband, our families, and I did not think we would be dealing with weather issues. We were wrong. The Monday before the wedding (which happened to be Memorial Day) rain was in the forecast and it wasn't going away. My biggest frustration was that Kit and Jason didn't contact us before the holiday weekend to try and get a Plan B in place. We could all see it might rain and, considering they were the event planners, I considered it their job to contact me about the back up plan. Come Tuesday, panic was setting in and my mom and dad started making phone calls trying to figure out where we could get a tent on such short notice. We called both Kit and Jason and did not hear from them until my caterer of all people called them and got a hold of them, telling them how freaked out we were about the weather. I then received a phone call from Jason saying they had it all under control and were currently with the Ardenwood people trying to figure out the Plan B and to let my mom and dad know to stop calling around. It was after 12p and we had been calling around since 8am. I understand that they may have been busy trying to get some stuff settled for me but after receiving a phone call from a panicing mother of the bride AND a stressed bride you would think someone would call to calm them down and let them know it was being handled.
There were plenty of other glitches that happened along the way that I feel could have been handled a little differently but I also feel it necessary to give them some slack considering this was their first ever wedding at Ardenwood. They were new to the venue, the weather was not cooporating, and they did their best trying to help us figure it out. They were even up in to the wee hours of the morning trying to help us figure out how our large wedding would fit in to a not so large tent (it worked...luckily).
The wedding day ran absolutely smoothly. Both Jason and Kit were around to do everything that was needed and it, with the cards we were all delt, could not have gone better!
Overall, Kit and Jason are great people who got the job done I just felt the communication could have been a little better.
I would recommend them considering I think had they known the venue and what they were working with a little better (which only experience can give them) they would have done everything perfectly and received all of my praise. -

Quantum Music was our DJ in July 2007 and I couldn't be happier with the service. Jason Shires was our DJ and we met with him about eight months prior to the wedding and then again a few weeks beforehand. He was very attentive and professional.
The wedding itself was a huge success and I have to credit Jason with a lot of this. He played great songs, and a great selection too. I would highly recommend Quantum Music to anyone who is getting married in the Bay Area. -

They were pretty much the only ones they recomended us to use and they let us know how difficult it is for them to let any outside vendors come in. We just thought since they only prefer to use this DJ why not just go with them it would just go smoothly that way since they are used to JSM. Thank god we were pleased. The company did exactly what we hired them to do and did it perfectly.
Kit thanks for everything. You made us feel like there were no limits to what we could request and you would come through with. OUr wedding was amazing and the music and how the DJ had the events flow from one to another throughout hte night is what makes the day Perfect. I wrote a list with my husband and wedding party of songs about us and our times. Take a look if you need some ideas. Go crazy be creative and play really what is about the two of you and your lives.

I am sooo happy we found Jason!!!! We orinignally had another DJ who flaked on us last minute, but it turns out that it was a blessing in disguise. Jason was the perfect DJ/MC. We couldn't ask for anything more.
He was really good at staying on schedule and directing everyone with what to do and when. He and Kit set the perfect ambience with the uplights and drapery. Our guests were dancing all night and even made comments about what a great DJ we had. At one point, he even started singing with the music and totally surprised everyone! It was a nice little bonus and our guests loved it. Jason is very, very good at reading the audience and reading people in general. He could tell that although we were a formal bunch, we could all be pretty goofy too, and he played into it. He was on time to everything, very responsive, super fun, and we are so pleased. Next time we need a DJ, we know exactly were to go. We would recommend him to anyone. Jason- YOU ROCK!
* Side note: Someone at our wedding was giving a speech that was terrible and lasting forever. I was so embarassed that I wanted to crawl under the head table and hide. The speech made everyone uncomfortable and nobody really knew what to do or how to make it stop. Jason was there to save the day! He waved over to us to see if we wanted help, we signaled back that we did, and he jumped right in. That took a lot of guts on his part. Thanks again, Jason.Listed in: Wedding Vendors

Review from Darren E.

My wife and I met with Jason about eight months before we were to be married in September 2009 and after the consultation we were impressed. We immediately knew that Quantum was going to be our choice because Jason had a wonderful balance of professionalism and making this a fun experience. So we felt that we would be in good hands. We had met a few weeks before the wedding date to verify details and I provided Jason with list of songs broken down by mood music for the dinner and dance music. I asked him to play the majority of music from my list and also to get a feel for the crowd and play some stuff he thought would work.
Come the wedding day we got exactly what we expected music wise. Our songs were played and he added in some fresh and familiar music. He ha a great feel for the crowd. Not only were we happy with the music but Jason also has a great personality which came out as he announced speakers and the bridal party.
He had a an idea that we thought was creative called sing for your meal or something like that. Basically we had 120 people broken up in 12 tables where each table had to get together and sing their favorite song about love then they could be off for some delicious grub. It turned out to be a huge hit. For one because the bridal party went first and didn't have to come up with a song so we could get our food come back and sit back and enjoy our family and friends coming up with Bon Jovi - Shot through the heart, The Beatles - All you need is love and much more. It was entertaining and hysterical. Also we heard from other married couples that they barely got to eat the day of their wedding. We had some amazing food so we were not about to miss out so we thought that being able to sit back, enjoy our food, and take in the show was the way it should be.
All in all I would highly recommend Jason and Quantum! It was an amazing day!Comment from Jason S. of Quantum Music Event Planners 2/4/2010

Jason is the first DJ I've ever hired for an event. We hired him because he was extremely affordable and we didn't want anyone fussing over an iPod during the evening. Him and his wife are extremely responsive and accessible via email. He is really professional and really gave us what we asked for. He was on top of everything during the event - pronounced names correctly, didn't make any annoying / off comments, or dominated the event. He provided background / ambiance music and helped keep the evening moving along smoothly.
One little issue that many of us noticed - he played a few of the songs on our song list more than once even though we provided enough music for the entire evening.Listed in: Wedding Vendors

I get a warm and fuzzy feeling just thinking of how incredibly crucial Kit and Jason were to our peaceof mind, and to our absolute enjoyment of our wedding.
Because of how pricey everything is in wedding land, it took me and (especially) my hubby a long time to hire a planner. I knew I needed help, but the cost of it all kept spurring me to try to do it all alone.
Well, several anxiety attacks later, I finally met Kit. She proposed an extremely reasonable package that included Jason as the DJ. After reading their many great Yelp reviews I took the plunge!
My only regret was not hiring them sooner. We signed on for the month-of package, but Kit was available to help out as soon as we signed. There were occasional minor delays in communication, but overall no complaints.
Meeting both Kit and Jason (and their sweet daughters) at our location was so reassuring. They energy they put out is: We will make it work, however you want to do it. They were very patient with all our agonized decision-making.
And they delivered!
Kit coordinated with all my vendors. On the day of, they set up tablescapes and lights. They executed our vision so beautifully, I cannot get over the image of how everything glowed to perfection. Kit helped me with a wardrobe malfunction and was always looking out for me.
Jason was great as a DJ and emcee. At first I was leery of having an emcee, due to my experiences at other weddings with obnoxious or just plain corny emcees. But Jason is a total professional, and checked in with us beforehand as to how much we wanted him to be involved. He was a calm and assured presence all throughout.
The music was great -- he built up the energy end people were already starting to dance before dinner was over! A few jumpy transitions here and there, but overall super fun tunes that kept us dancing all night!
The best part was at the end of it all, my husband, who'd had his doubts, said to me: They have exceeded all expectations. He was really impressed.
Now, when he talks to his buddies who are newly engaged, he tells them that getting a wedding coordinator is the best investment we could have made.
Thank you Kit and Jason! -

Jason recently did our second compay party for about 15- people. He does an excellent job in feeling the crowd and making sure that everyone is having a good time. We had a diverse crowd and he was able to play something for everyone. He is very professional and knows what he is doing. His pricing is excellent for the service he delivers. He is an excellent disc jockey and I would ecommend him to anyone.

What can we say, we LOVE Jason! He did an amazing job for our April 2010 wedding at the Brazilian Room and kept up with our crowd all night. He has extensive experience with the Brazilian Room and does a ton of weddings there, so is also invaluable for wedding planning advice.
Jason is also amazingly passionate about what he does and very committed to great service. The first time we got in contact with Jason, he offered to drive to us from Eastbay to where we live at downtown SF for a meeting. When is the last time you've heard of a prospective DJ going out of his way to come to you?! :) Unfortunately that day, Jason got stuck traffic the day that the truck flipped over on the S-curve, and had to wade through that traffic to get to us. When he arrived, despite his crazy evening -- he rolled with it, and gave us a very professional presentation with a great attitude, and in that meeting was one of the most well organized and helpful people we met with during our wedding planning process. This was really a testament to his professionalism and ability to perform even in difficult situations, and it was a no-brainer to hire him after our meeting. Throughout the process he was really helpful with advice on how to structure our wedding day and sent us custom wedding sampler CDs to help us choose our music.
He was fantastic at our wedding and reception. Many of our guests commented that the music selections were great. We asked him to read the crowd and play what he thought they'd like, and he had people dancing all night! We had a Chinese and Indian wedding and he was familiar with and did a great job with playing ethnic music. The other thing which he made pain-free and easy was coordinating the Western wedding ceremony. After we got our processional lined up, he was extremely helpful by signaling when each person should walk down the aisle and telling everyone what to do. He was practically our behind the scenes coordinator at the wedding, and was always checking in to see where he could help and making sure everything stayed on schedule. You can tell from working with Jason that he takes his work seriously and loves doing it, and was happy to go above and beyond to make sure it's a wonderful day for us.Listed in: Wedding

Met with Kit and Jason and they are a lovely. They know the business and are very accommodating. Their prices are very reasonable and can adjust anything to fit what you need. I ended up going with someone else for a wedding DJ because our personalities clicked better. However, if they weren't available, I definitely would have choses Jason to DJ. I highly recommend people searching for wedding DJ's to look into them, especially if you are on a budget.

Shortly after I posted my review, Kit and Jason contacted me via email in order to clarify the situation. They were very thorough and polite in their explanation. For the record, I really did love our DJ and he did a wonderful job. As I did not speak to them directly about his overtime fee, I did not realize that was what the $200 charge was, but he did receive it and it was well deserved. I think the most important thing was that QMEP did deliver and my guests were none the wiser regarding the bride and groom's dilemma. At least the majority of us had fun.

Jason was the DJ at our wedding 10 days ago, and I can't say enough about him and his work. We heard of Jason through two friends who RAVED about him. Now I see why. Both Jason and his wife Kit who run Quantum Music are kind, caring, and hard working. They are very detail-oriented and very friendly (not at all like dealing with a big DJ company). Jason came to our house twice to go over music lists. He also sent me two CD's of customized sample music to help me pick my processional songs and did not stop until I had picked the perfect ones. It was also great working with Kit who had lots of creative ideas for how to keep the crowd on the dance floor. Clearly they both have a lot of experience.
The music was off the hook and Jason somehow knew what to play to keep everyone happy. He reads crowds incredibly well, which is not a skill all DJs have but seems to me to be one of the most important. Above all of this, Jason and Kit are honest, kind people who love what they do. You spend a lot of time working with your DJ in the days leading up to the wedding, so it's very important that you trust (and like!) them. These two were a dynamic duo to work with. -

Jason and Kit Shires know how to get a party going! They are fun, professional and really decent people. When you hire them to help you with your event, it's like asking a responsible friend for help. They truly care about you and your event's success! I have enjoyed their services when working for children too. They can be depended on to keep it clean and exciting! I would highly recommend Quantum Music for your event. Their services surpass the basic DJ, music playing part of your party. Their transitions and ability to work a crowd will help to make your event a fun and memorable one!

Getting married on a budget sucks because you have to pick and choose the areas on which you want to splurge. Initially for us a DJ was not going to be one of those areas. We considered getting a family member to do it via iTunes just to save.
But after reading Jason's Yelp reviews I had to have him for our event and he did not disappoint.
Jason DJ'd our May 2010 wedding @ The Brazilian Room in Berkeley. When you hire Jason you get so much more than just a DJ. You get peace of mind.
Thanks to him I was able to relax and enjoy my wedding.
He was an excellent MC he had us and our guests laughing from beginning to end.
He worked well with our other vendors and kept us on schedule. Which is amazing given the fact we were thrown a curve ball morning of the wedding. We had several surprise live performances by our family members and friends. Jason graciously and seamlessly fit these into our reception.
Though everything didn't go perfectly. There was a problem with one of the speakers during a song my friend was singing during the wedding proecessional. I was more than happy with the service he provided and wouldn't hesitate to recommend or hire him again in the future.Comment from Jason S. of Quantum Music Event Planners 6/20/2011

We just had our wedding on Valentine's Day few weeks ago. Jason was superb!! He is super easy going and very good at reading the crowd. I did not even have to pick any songs and just trusted him with the song list for the night. All the guests enjoyed the music.
Since we did not hire an MC, he also played the part very well. He is very responsible. During the equipment setup, he even ran out of the hotel looking for us because my projector was not setup even though it was not even his responsibility to set it up for us. The evening went very smoothly and according to schedule even without an MC nor a wedding planner because Jason followed a schedule that I had given him. If you need someone to take a big chunk of 'chaos' out of your mind on your special day, Jason is definitely the one to hire!! He is also very reasonably priced!! Thanks Jason!! -

My now husband gave me the task of conducting phone interviews with the DJs that responded to his inquiry for our July wedding.
What steered me to contact QMEP was
1. They were on our venue's list of vendors & we selected our minister & caterer from this same list (see other reviews) Because QMEP has worked at this venue The Gardens at Heather Farm, they offer a great discount.
2. They have great Yelp reviews. Who better to get feedback from than actual consumers, right?
First DJ interview was QMEP with Kit. I immediately liked her just based on the initial call. Felt like I was talking to a longtime friend. Very personable & answered all my ques. U know how some vendors are pushy? Kit was sooo not like that. We set up a face to face mtng.
My instincts were right about Kit. We signed the contract that same day, never even called other DJs to "shop around".
Kit knows her stuff. Because we were on a tight budget, we didn't opt for the coord svcs but that did not deter her from offering suggestions based on her experiences. In other words, she wasn't "stingy" offering advice & guidance from scheduling to how things are typically done, etc.
We met again two wks prior to finalize, go over playlist & agenda.
Day of, everything went smooth.... When our emcee would go MIA, Kit stepped in.
She played all our music & kept us on track. Kit is wonderful to work with.
It's always a plus when u have good ppl in your corner. Glad she was in ours that day!
