We stayed at this Quality Inn when we were doing a sport show a block away.
The employees there were nice and helpful. The room was quite large, we had plenty of towels and the free wireless was great (tho' sometimes not a real strong signal).
We didn't use the pool, but it look like a nice area. The hotel & room were nice & clean. There was a burn mark on the sink counter but you can't fix that without replacing the whole counter & I'm sure it was done before there was no smoking inside buildings. There was no smoke smell anywhere in the hotel or in our room.
The restaurant is delightful & cutely decorated with light log walls and a cabin type of feeling. We went for dinner several times and our waitress was Dee, who was quite a character and the nicest lady I have met in a long time. She has been there 32 years, is 82 years old and puts many other waitresses to shame with her energy and friendly nature. -

I am really disappointed in the staff and billing practices here. We had 2 rooms reserved, and a few days prior to our arrival, there were 2 random charges on our card, under the name "Ackerman Investments". I had to call my bank, find out that the charges were based in Des Moines, called the hotel, and got it squared away. We were sharing our rooms with some friends who arrived before us, and therefore checked in swiping their own credit cards. A few hours later we arrived, and asked that the rooms be put on our card instead, and swiped our card. We discovered the next day that our friends had NOT had the holds dropped, nor had our initial random charge been dropped. Ackerman Investments was holding roughly $1400 from our combined accounts for 2 rooms. Our final bill came to $530... yet $1400 was being held?! I went to the front desk and again requested the charges to be dropped from our friends' cards since our card was now on the rooms, and Carol said she would do it, I haven't asked my friends to check yet and be sure the charges are gone. Meanwhile I checked out 4 days ago and I have a pending $200 charge on top of my final bill. I stay in hotels 5 or 6 times a year and have never experienced this sort of confusion with bills.
Additionally, Carol the night manager was incredibly rude to several members of our party. When they asked for extra blankets she challenged why they needed them and refused to give them more than a couple extra. She was observed hanging up on customers on the phone and refusing to answer when they called back.
While we were there, a party was going on down the hall, with half a dozen drunk men banging on doors and obviously smoking inside the room.
The rooms were clean and totally suitable, but the shadiness with my money and the terrible manner of the staff really turned me off. I come to Des Moines once a year on business and I will not stay here again. -

My initial impression of this inn was not too good. It is advertised as a non smoking hotel,but upon entering the bathroom , the sink had multple burn marks on it,from a long time ago I guess. My bed had a hole in the bedspread I asked for a new bedspread & was promised they would bring one up, six hours later I again asked for the bedspread & it was delivered within two minutes. I think they had to wait untill someone else checked out. Then they had the bedspread washed.
They do accept pets, pets can have fleas,that thought bothers me.
The place is a family Hotel ,kids were everywhere & filled the swimming pool & hot tub.
All that aside the room was large , comfy & well appointed.
I found the bar & dining area also cosy & comfortable, & i liked the decor.
The staff was friendly. so i am mixed on my review. -

Nice quiet off street parking, nice rooms, very comfy. The views of downtown are magnificent. The hotel staff are friendly and courteous.
