First the general and good stuff:

- Exterior is nicely kept.
- Area is safe and convenient, at the foot of the Cooper River Bridge.
- Check-in process was efficient (if not slightly flawed, see rant below).
- Room was clean, nice size.
- Free waters and sodas in lobby, occasionally, in a tub of ice
- Decent, free, breakfast
- Free wi-fi (didn't use)

Now the bad, rant kind of stuff:

- The bathroom was straight out of the 80's.  The fixtures barely worked, the shower curtain installation looked like it was used as a training exercise for the new maintenance guy, and he failed.  Water seeped out from the edges, in spite of my best efforts.  The TP and tissue holders were loosely held in their respective "holes" in the face of the counter.  The door didn't open all the way because the aforementioned shower curtain rod (one of those semi-circle jobs) interfered.  This was a big deal if you wanted to sit on the toilet, because the door interfered with your legs.  
- Price, although not bad for the area, still high (~$140/night)
- Breakfast in the food-area only, don't plan to take it to your room, unless you're one who gets away with it.  My wife and I like to take a plate to the room and watch TV, chill out a bit, to start the day.  Nope, not here.  I was followed and told that I had to return to the food area to eat.  Not long after, someone took their plate to the elevator and left the area.  Hmmm.
- Tickets must be presented for breakfast.  Odd again given that breakfast is free for EVERYONE.  I can see trying to avoid the guy off the street looking to scab a biscuit, but just make me show a key.
- At check in, I asked about breakfast.  He said, yes, you'll smell it from your room.  He was right, we were right there.  But he didn't tell me about the tickets.  Tough on the first morning.  A little embarrassing.

So, in summary, you will most likely want to consider this place because of the good things.  And, since you're reading this, you may very well give it 4 or 5 stars (price and that pesky shower curtain rod preventing the 5th star for some) because you now have the inside word.
