I was visiting a friend in the area and she recommended this place to try, but her and her husband are regulars here. This place is super family friendly. Besides one other couple this place was filled with families with multiple small children. I guess you would call this a hole in the wall, but it's not dirty at all. I've eaten in much worse places in Monterey Park in Southern California, so this place actually made me feel quite at home.

Beef noodle soup is the ultimate Chinese comfort food for me, especially when it's cold out! I had the nonspicy version and it was pretty decent. I really liked the chewiness of the hand-made noodles; and there was a good proportion of beef (I got to have my meat!) and bok choy so I didn't feel like I was just chewing noodles all the time. The meat was tender and flavorful, but then again, how can you really go wrong with beef stew. The broth was okay, but I think I'd definitely want to try the spicy version next time I come here. It could have used that extra kick. My biggest complaint would have to be that it's too pricey for how much you get! My girlfriend finished off a full bowl easily and probably could have had more... but one bowl was $8. Given I'm comparing this to SoCal, but I could definitely get the same thing in Monterey Park for $2 less. But I guess there is one bonus... they gave us sticks of Wrigley's gum for free with the bill!

When it's cold out, there's nothing like a bowl of spicy beef noodle soup to warm you up.  We were visiting some friends in the Fremont area and decided on this place for a low key dinner.

The waitress told us that they make their own noodles everyday.  Freshly made noodles have a wonderful firm texture that dried noodles just do not.  It makes a real difference.  That was the best part of the dish hands down.  The beef pieces were pretty decent- there was a variety of meats from tendon-y, ligament-y type to actual chunks of meat.  I've had more flavorful soup elsewhere though.

Still, a pretty good go to place for decent beef noodle soup.

This place is okay. I mean its kinda ghetto for like a fancy noodle bar but on the other hand the noodles are hand-pulled. I grew up in Fremont (a heavily Asian city) so I know my noodles pretty well. They are definitely "QQ" (Taiwanese for chewy) and their quality is consistent (top-notch!) My parents always used to take me here so I have really good memories of this place. I would give it 3-4 stars but in traditional American terms this place is kind of a whole in-the-wall. A quick glance at the average rating finds it just average. Anyway not a bad place for a quick and cheap meal but definitely not 3 or 4 star food.

I've wanted to try this for a while, and finally had a chance to last weekend.

Don't knock this place because the noodles are chewy.  They're supposed to be.  Hand pulled, freshly made, and served to perfection every time.  So chewy that you get scissors with your order.

Menu is easy to read, with full blown pictures accompanying every dish.  This trip we tried the #3 dry soy bean paste aka jah jang mein, the #4 tomato and egg sauce noodle, and the #6 egg chow mein.

I liked all dishes, however at the bottom of the #3 the noodles turned soupy.  Guess the noodles were not drained well enough.  Sauce was pretty good and is worth another visit next time I want to get my noodle fix.  I'll try the house specialty, which is House Special Sour and Spicy Pork Sauce Noodles.  That's quite a name.

This is not what you think of when you think of chinese noodles, at least for me.

Tell your friends, if you or them are from the north of China and you wants some pulled noodles with some spicy-ness.  Thick pulled noodles, with lots of spice in it.  If you are into this type of food than it is for you, I really like to feel my tongue after eating spicy foods.

As a noodle lover, my friend recommended this place. It's rare to find a hand pulled noodle place, so I was excited to go try.

The hot and spicy beef noodle was what i tried as recommended, also by yelpers. at first, the noodles were too chewy and thick for me, and the soup was lukewarm. but when i tried it with the beef and bok choy, it was very flavorful, and i enjoyed my bowl of noodles even more.

the bf had the house special, hot and sour spicy pork noodle (#1). it had a really strong and unique taste, not sure if i liked it. the waitress said it was really spicy, so he ordered it medium, but it was still pretty spicy, living quite a kick. he agreed that my noodles were much better.

we were the last customers to come in and the last to leave. service was great, everything came out nice and quick.

Had the kan-jah-jang or soybean paste noodles.  Quite different than other places.  Definitely not the "traditional" style.  Sauce was more watery and brown than dark brown/black and thick.  Noodles were good, but had wayyyy too much cucumber on top.  Had pork with soy sauce/garlic as a side.  Too much garlic, but the pork was cooked alright.  Here is where I get annoyed.

Went to the counter to pay the bill.  Total was $22.  I pulled out my debit card as I had no cash.  Cashier proceeds to show me sign that states $25 minimum for cards or 50 cent surcharge.  I oblige.  She then states, pay cash.  I state I have no cash.  She says, "50 cents cash."  I say, "NO CASH, Charge me the surcharge."  Lady next to cashier says go walk down the street to ATM.  I point to the sign that states, "Charges under $25 will incur 50 cent surcharge."  Cashier and another Chinese lady talk in Chinese for a good 60 seconds and give me VERY dirty looks and finally swipes my card.  Then proceeds to say, next time CASH ONLY.  Wow.... You really think there will be a next time after THAT!?

I understand small business' gripes with cash vs credit, but I was totally fine incurring their posted surcharge.  I don't feel like I need to feel sorry for paying by credit beyond that....  Especially considering after tip the total would have been over $25 any how....

All in all - Very mediocre food, non-existant service, and making it difficult for your customer to pay....

It's either three or four stars but I'll round up because of the hand-pulled noodles.  The hand-pulled noodles are excellent.  They're firm, chewy, bouncy and super long.  They bring scissors to the table if you want to cut your noodles.  The broth lacks depth of flavor though and needs work.  QQ is clearly better than Palace Chef, the other hand pulled noodle place, down the street.

I tried the hot & spicy beef stew noodle soup ($7.95) and the hot & spicy fish noodle soup ($8.45).  While the noodles were plentiful, they didn't provide much beef or fish and in both cases, the broth was just okay.  Spicy isn't that spicy but they have hot sauce at the table.  The mild white fish pieces were lightly fried so that they were slightly crispy.  Good beef though not amazing.

The menu is pretty short and filled with pictures. They have chow mein, noodle soup, and little dishes (appetizers).  The chicken & black mushroom noodle soup seemed popular with the diners (comes in a cute little white pot).  Most diners were Chinese.

$20 minimum for credit card purchases

this place was A-OK. Its a small place which can get crowded. I came here last night (Friday) and was seated right away. I just thought the food was a little bland for my taste. It menu was really simple, which can be a good thing or bad thing. In my case, it was bad. I just didnt see anything that really enticed me.

I suggest that they have like a "build your own" option, like if the customer was dry noodles or soup. what veggies in it, what meat, and spicy/mild etc. Maybe even put it on a piece of paper, because there a language barrier between the customers and the servers. Just a suggestion for the non-chinese speaking people who want to modify their orders.

I had the noodles with sliced beef. The soup was good and the noodles were really tasty. It was about $10. There is a standard size which is a large bowl. I just think that i can get a big bowl of pho for $5, so why come here?

+1: great service, very fast, and hospitable
+1: Clean restaurant. I love mom & pop, hole in the wall places.
+1: great noodles. If you are craving NOODLES, come here.

-1: small menu. A simple menu can be a hit or miss, for me it was a miss. I think im just too picky and want everything modified.
-1: $25 minimum credit card charge, so bring cash if only 1 or 2 people are eating.

I remembered awhile back there was a Yelp event at this restaurant or a bunch of yelpers came to eat here and I've read the reviews here with mostly good things for the most part.  With that in mind, I suggested this place to my friend who has been here before.

This place was somewhat busy and seating didn't seem a problem because it was decently sized.  We were seated closest to the entrance of the kitchen next to the refrigerators and I mentioned this for the end of my review.

I liked the menus here because each page itself was a full-paged picture of the dish.  I ordered #10 which was the Hot and Spicy Beef Stew Noodle Soup for $7.95 and the page had a picture of how it looked up close.  It was comparable to the pictures I usually take of food up close but backed up a bit instead of 2 inches from the surface.

Most of the dishes looked good and I wanted to try a bunch but I couldn't be too greedy.  You know how that saying goes more or less: "Your eyes are bigger than your stomach."  The price for the dishes went as high as $9.95 which was close to being expensive but it depends who you ask.

The Hot and Spicy Beef Stew Noodle Soup wasn't spicy to me though it did have a little bit of hot oil in the soup.  The meat was tender and the soup was good.  I did have some hot oil go down my throat and that almost made me cough but nothing a sip of tea couldn't help.  The noodles were good and actually had the flavor of the soup on them unlike some places where it would taste like dough.  I can't say this was the best hot and spicy beef stew noodle soup I've had but it was pretty good.

We got the bill and paid for it but stayed to talk about random things.  It was almost 10pm and one of the waitresses brought over food to the table that was connected to ours closest to the wall.  It turned out the staff was going to eat and pretty much kicked us out from our table so that they could sit.  I thought it was funny because we were there for a long time after we paid and after they closed, too.

i ordered to go the #3 Dry soy bean paste sauce noodles.  Kind of a mistake, since, by the time I got home, the noodles became a glob of carbs.  It took awhile to loosen it up with the sauce (which came in a separate container - smart!) but I cringed from the saucy salt OD!

This noodle dish is suppose to have a hint of sugar but either the cook forgot that or he wasn't watching how much salt / soy sauce he poured!  The sauce didn't even have very much cubed tofu or ground meat... just a sea of brown saltiness.  Blah!

QQ Noodles just like how the restaurant name itself is.
Broth is indeed like other has commented, kinda of blend... Noodles are good, so stick with a dry noodle with lots of sauce! Soda is pretty cheap for a can compared to other chinese restaurants.

Make no mistake, this place is a good noodle house. Just don't be silly like me and ask for rice cuz there aren't any. The waitress smiled at me and with a chuckle reminded me that I was at QQ NOODLE.

For appetizer, I had the beef tendon w/ hot oil which was delish  with my hot and spicy beef stew noodle soup. The noodles were very good and the beef was nice and spicy, although a bit oily.

I will definitely continue to come back to enjoy their noodles and hopefully not get punked by the waitress again.

It's noodles, and it's Chinese. I don't think most people understand that when you combine the 2, you will not get more than a "Hi. Ready to order?" and "Here's your check". Don't go into a Chinese restaurant expecting 5-star service because if it's a REAL traditional Chinese joint, there is no such thing. Not that I'm hating on my own people, but I'm just keepin it real.

With that being said, the food here is great, the prices are reasonable...no complaints from me. Hand-pulled noodles are always a plus in my book. I feel a lot healthier dining here than ordering take-out @ Panda Express.

These review is based on the food and the service.

Had to take away a star because the service is a little lacking. On this night we came in and were seated by a younger server, but we had to wait awhile until an older server came to take our order. We also asked for water, and it never came. We saw another table which was being taken care by the younger server receive their food and water BEFORE we got anything. Oh, did I mention we were seated before them and ordered before them. I think that Older Server is the manager/owner, and is more concerned about the $$$ counting.

Anyways, now to the food. We ordered the Hot and Spicy Beef Stew Noodle Soup, which has always been very tasty and really isn't super spicy. Just enough kick.

Also ordered the Shredded Pork Chow Mein, it more chow mein then any other ingredient. Its great for left over food too, that's we get that, cause we know we are going to bring home the remains.

Last, wanted to try something new so we got the Long Time Boiled Thick Noodle Soup & Pork, the broth had a lot of flavor and it seems like something you would have when you are sick. (i.e. Chicken Soup)

I don't like all the noodles offered, but I do like #10. Um mm, yummy.

This is a little place in Sunset Plaza (I think that's what it's called) opened up not too long ago. My parents saw an aggressive ad campaign on TV and decided to try it. My mom loves it, my dad doesn't (but I think his complaint is more about how small and crowded the parking lot is during peak hours, which isn't really the restaurant's fault). I went with them on Sunday after Independence Day around 1:30 pm, so it wasn't too crowded at all.

I ordered #3, the za jiang mien (dry soy bean paste sauce noodles). I was pleasantly surprised that the sauce came in a separate bowl, and it comes with a LOT of sauce so you can take it home and make your own za jiang mien for at least 1 more meal!

My mom got #8, the house special sour & spicy pork noodle soup. When it came, it was so pungent I thought it had gone bad. I tried a little bit and it sure was very sour (vinegar) and spicy! My mom thought it was okay but I don't think I would ever order that one myself. It also has the wide flat type of noodle instead of the other round kind that the other dishes use. I personally think the round type is better. More on the noodles later.

My dad got #12, braised beef noodle soup. It was pretty good when I tasted it, and he didn't complain about it. My mom tried it and said it was very bland compared to hers. Well, when you compare a beef soup to a sour & spicy soup, that's not very surprising...

I think the BEST part about this restaurant, that makes it worth coming to instead of staying home and making these dishes yourself or finding some place cheaper, are the NOODLES. Just like the name of the restaurant, "QQ Noodle", the noodles are definitely "QQ" (Chinese/Taiwanese word for chewy, like boba). I absolutely LOVE this particular type of hand-pulled noodles and it's pretty rare to find I think. I wish this restaurant would also sell bags of noodles...I think they'd make a really good profit if they did that.

Service is a little sparse but that's to be expected of any Chinese restaurant. I always tell my non-Chinese friends the general rule of Chinese restaurants - the worse the service, the better the food. Of course there are exceptions, but that's more often the case than not! :)

Enjoy the pictures!

Went there to try it today. SO GOOD.Come for the noodles, not the service. What they do is they ask you what you want, and they bring it out to you. No, they don't ask you how you're doing, they don't give you recommendations, and they don't try to make useless small talk with you, so if that's what you're looking for, don't come here.

But if you want some AMAZING hand-pulled noodles, this is your joint. I'm Chinese, so I have high standards when it comes to my native food. I got the spicy fish noodle soup... all I gotta say is, daaaaaaaaayam.

San Hao La Mien is the Chinese name of this neighborhoody noodle joint in a pseudo Los Angeles/Southern California style mini non descript strip mall  (San = Three, Hao = Good, La Mien = pulled noodles).

Since I enjoyed my experience, I think the Chinese name should be Si Hao La Mien (Four Good Pulled Noodles). San Hao would imply it is only 3 stars worthy, and they do have that red Yelp sticker by the door.

But it is the English name that REALLY respresents the flagship product.

As many of my fellow A$N yelper$ have stated, QQ DOES live up to its name with its flagship product, their in house made noodles. Perfectly "QQ" as they say in Taiwan, meaning elasticity (per Peggy S's apt translation) as well as chewy (per Ed to tha' M), but I would add "toothsome" or "bounces off the tooth" according to Cantonese gourmets (who also overuse their version of the term). In a semi equivalent sort of way, you could say "QQ" is Chinese version of Al Dente.

So bad Northern Chinese noodles = Dente's Inferno, which is not the case here..

Really, the texture is like perfectly done fresh tapioca (which is a super rare thing in the Bay Area, except maybe Fantasia Cupertino and only there)

We had the following:

Hung Shao Niu Rou Mien - braised beef noodle soup

Noodles - perfect for Northern non Shandong style

Broth - a very simple base stock with the beef brisket stew juices combined. It was not bland at all, and for those who don't like greasy oily spicy, will appreciate this for being light but refreshing

Beef - totally brisket cut with virtually no instances of tendon, but stewed till relatively soft. My gripe, they stewed this with a bit too much rock sugar (or whatever sweetener is used)

Green veg - they were very generous on the Qing Jiang Tsai, which is a lighter green semi short (but wide) stem veg. Not cheap at the supermarkets. Cooked till soft and tender, a very nice touch.

To make the beef noodle soup experience here more enjoyable, apply their in house provided (and likely in house made) chili sauce. It has a slightly watered down like consistency, but kicks things up a few notches. Apply in moderation, it can be quite kickass potent.

The chicken and black mushroom soup in hot pot noodles (Dwun Guan
Xiang Goo Ji Tang Mien) is the perfect choice for those that need the starch but want a comforting bowl of treatment. Basically the noodles are cooked, served with a veg in a bowl. Served on the side is a ceramic pot of pure good stewed chicken soup goodness, with chunks of chopped Chinese style range chicken thigh, and some mushrooms. You scoop the broth in and consume with the noodles. Generous amounts of veg as usual. The highlight here is the broth and the chicken, which has a very mild hint of sweetness (so just the right amount of rock sugar) and very homey and light (ie non greasy and non M$Gy). The downside, this is closing in on the $9 mark, but you pay for the additional labor and love.

Still a very good value for the $ overall, and given its location where there aren't many choices, something fairly authentic, down home, neighborhoody, is quite the find indeed.

Ca$h only if under $20, so that means two bowls of noodles plus the new deal tax (which as of April 1, the government slipped us the additional 1% $ale$ tax $au$age in our crackholes, can I call RAPE?) will require you to fork out a President Jackson instead of plastique by Visa or Mastercard.

Awww yeah, you know you love the Beef No' guy long long time!

I love hand-pulled noodles for the simple fact that imperfections in the noodles make them taste great!  My folks have been coming to this noodle joint since the company started blasting television ads (which certainly worked, given how busy the place is every time I go).  The portions are pretty ginormous, which of course does not deter me from attempting to finish my dish in one fit of gluttony.

Instead of providing patrons with the non-Chinese fortune cookie with the bill, the folks at QQ provide patrons with the equally non-Chinese stick of gum--which is great, because after swallowing a bowl of spicy beef noodle soup, my breath could kill small animals.

And parking isnt too bad. It's in a little plaza s0o there's some parking.

Be forewarned that the place is a little small, s0o if you go during a busy time period, you might have to wait a little bit.

I'd definitely go again! ^________^

If you're looking for noodles, you can't be disappointed here. Having hand pulled noodles really gives this place its edge.
Came here for lunch on a chilly day. Friend and I ordered the "Hot and spicy beef noodle soup". Soup is great, noodles were better, and the beef was fantastic! Really satisfied. Too bad they only accept credit card for purchases over $25. Can't wait to come back.

There was a place in Alhambra about 10 years ago that had hand-pulled noodles that I used to go all the time.  All I remember was that there was a picture with the owner who was showing off his guns with not-then-CA-Governor-Arnold.
Anyway, the only complaint I had with that place was that the noodles were great but the soup was blah.
Fast forward to 2009 and here I am in the Bay Area and I find a place with similar quality noodles but with soup that I actually like.
I've even taken the noodles to go and it still tastes pretty good even at home.
Take off one star for no picture with Arnold...just kidding.

Review of Service:

As much as I love their noodles, I can't really say I love the customer service. I know, I know.. when the food is great, customer service can be overlooked...

..but in the last two weeks, I've been there 3 times (obsessed much?) and I always feel like we're never treated like valued customers. Granted we came here once near closing time to get food to-go, the waitress there always makes it seem like we're such a hassle.

Service was cool in the beginning, but it's been becoming gradually unsettling (if that makes any sense at all) since the waitress started working there. I feel like the waitress there favors customers -- which I try not to let bother me, but it'd be nice if she at least fake it with everyone else.

Just yesterday, I had hardly finished stating my order and she grabs the menu right out of my hands before I can order something else!

UM, HELLO!? Can you at least let me finish.

I can understand and accept this behavior/service under certain circumstances: 1) It's super busy in the restaurant or 2) I'm in a hurry and don't care.. Unfortunately, none of those were the case.

1) 9 of the 14 tables were unoccupied/vacant; leaving 5 with patrons -- 3 of which had already been served, with 1 having already paid
2) Finally, I was in no hurry.. and I hate being rushed when I'm trying to have a meal. After yesterday's meal, I just felt sick and in a gloomy mood.

Furthermore, as I had mentioned earlier, the waitress favors customers. One of them actually came in and happened to notice how we were being ignored while the waitress was just chatting it up with her. She was kind enough to tell the waitress that we were waiting for the check.

I think it's safe to say we've been going there a couple times a month since it's opened, but our loyalty always goes unrewarded or more so unacknowledged. EVERY TIME we go in there, she always speaks to us in Chinese. To say the least, we aren't of Chinese descent.

Maybe we don't go in as much as other people.. and I don't expect free food or anything of that nature, but at least remember our faces, put a smile on your face, and treat your customers the same way you treat your "favorite" customers.

once in a while out of no where I'll start craving for some think noodles and this is the place that comes to mind. I haven't seen it too crowded, and food comes out quick which is always a plus especially when just ordering noodles (not like some ramen places that are always packed). I always get the house special sour & spicy pork sauce noodles which is pretty sour so don't blame me if you try it don't like it. you've been warned.

don't expect a nice restaurant , appetizers not that great, eat your noodles and go on with your day.

I'm trying to figure out what all the fuss is about for this place.  True, they have hand-made noodles, but they didn't make them taste very well.  Maybe my mom and I didn't order the right noodles.  Maybe, we need to order "off the menu" like at other asian restaurants.  I don't know what it was, but this place really disappointed me.  The tofu w/preserved egg was the only good item we ordered, but I could easily make that at home.

Despite my negative experience, I will definitely try QQ again.  However, next time I go, i'll make sure to look around at the other tables and order what everyone else is getting.

So for now, the 2 stars will stick until i come again.....

on a side note, the fish tank in the front of the restaurant makes me mad and sad.  There were 4 fishes in the tank, the big cute googly eyed goldfish, and ALL of them were either sick or on the verge of dying.
CLEAN YOUR TANK WATER, DAMN IT!!   You're killing your fishes!!

Love, love, LOVE the noodles!  They're handmade and pure slippery and chewy deliciousness.  I really enjoyed their signature dishes, the spicey and meaty numbers 1 and 8.  I've tried a couple of their other noodles dishes too and liked them.  It reminds me of total mommy/daddy comfort Chinese food.  I like to come here whenever I am homesick for the food my parents make or just homesick for San Francisco's many cheap and delicious Chinese eateries with their fresh ingredients.

Excellent noodles, very fresh and firm, with a good selection of soup and flavors with which to enjoy them.  They are similar to but better than the noodles at San Tung in SF (also a very popular place for noodles) and definitely better than a lot of other places in the bay area.

The #8 hot and sour noodle soup is their signature, but the chicken and mushroom that comes in its own container separate from the noodles is also great, with a good amount of chicken flavor and not too much oil or msg.

It's places like these that make me content with what we have in the bay area.

What do you do after watching an intense Super Bowl?  You go to QQ for dinner...at least that's what we did...

First, finding this place off Thorton Ave. was a bit challenging because their sign was so small.  Look for a little strip mall with Bonfare Fine Foods, then look for a neon green sign...that's QQ.

Second, I liked their picture book menu.  For those of us who need visual stimulation to make decisions.

Lastly, I like how their dishes come out looking like the pictures in the menu...

The food was delicious.  We got the tofu with preserved egg appetizer, an order of the Tomato and egg, and an order of the hot and spicy fish noodle soup.  It was way too much food for 2 people, so we had doggie bags...and all that only cost us $20...not shabby at all...

There are many other dishes that I want to try, so I'll be back...

Good price, big portion, taste good. The texture of the hand-pulled noodles are good!

Location is not nice. It is in a small unpleasant plaza, kind of ghetto.

this place is just ok. had the spicy beef noodle. the noodle was very hard to bite on. But i got used to it and was different from any other noodle I had. The broth could be better. Very plain and not enough flavor. The beef was good. But $8 was a little too much. When the bill came they also put down what 15% tip should be. WTF for? It was like $10 for a bowl of noodle.

Nah. this place is just ok. All asians here - china, taiwan whever the hell they are from

Had Tossed noodles YUM!
This place is ok though as I've had much better in Milpitas area and San Jose.

As it seems to be the only place in Fremont then, I'd say its A-OK

QQ, slang for chewy in chinese; and they really mean CHEWY.  You have to try them.  The post the said they are like Udon? give me a break.  No Udon place have this chewy texture.

If you like spicy but not the 3 pepper spicy like they have, you can ask them for less spicy.

Just typing these comments make my mouth water.

Well, I made the mistake of driving down to Fremont to try out this place, and these fuckers, wouldn't ever wait on me, they said they were closed, while they were sitting there stuffing their greedy faces!! All they want is ur money, they don't care about people, that's the way I felt. Completly unproffessional, this happened at 2:00 pm!!! What restauraunt does that?? No one should give them business, why do we Americans put up with that, if you recieve bad service, please yelp it, these chop shops are going down!!! Mark my words!  Your customer service, tell alot about your intentions!!

It's been a while since I first ate here and then I came quite a few times after that... but then I stopped and it's been almost a year since then.

It was bustling on a Sunday afternoon but the wait wasn't long.  I came with a group of about 8 people and since there were only tables that seat four people, the waitress decided to push two tables together.  If you've been here, then you can imagine that it created quite a fire hazard.  We almost refused because  the positioning of the tables was just so awkward.

I decided to get the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup.  There are three chili peppers next to this picture but I knew that it wasn't going to be that spicy.  It was very bearable and I'm glad I got the spicy version instead of the regular beef noodle soup because the broth is bland.  At least the spiciness hides it a little.  The textures of the noodles is medium and slippery--good luck trying to get some onto a spoon!  I forwent even trying to eat in a ladylike manner and just slurped it straight out of the bowl.  I also shared the Tofu with Preserved Egg with my friends and it was so good!!  We practically devoured the little plate in a matter of seconds.  They give you one preserved egg sliced vertically into four pieces and a tiny mountain full of cold, firm tofu topped with green onions.  I would come back just for that alone!!

Now the whole time we were there, there was a one female and one male server.  I know my Chinese people are normally very straight to the point, almost grumpy, but they don't mean it personally.  However we couldn't help but constantly think that they were mad at us.  One thing I do give this place props for is the big portions; I have yet to finish a whole bowl of noodles by myself!

Debit/credit with a minimum purchase of $20.  Our waiter got mad at us when we tried to charge less and when we gave him the card back to charge $20, he laughed at us.  ???

We saw their TV ads on the local Chinese channel. We decided to drive 30 minutes up north to try it. We didn't regret the trip.

Hand-pulled noodles are not very common nowadays, most of the places we used to get hand-pulled noodles had switched to factory made noodles. The texture of hand-pulled noodle is very unique and I think it is called "al dente" by some. I believe the repeated pulling action aligns the gluten fibers in the dough and that creates a texture that cannot be reproduced by machines. In Taiwanese dialect, that texture is called "Q". I guess that explains the name of the restaurant.

Since I like spicy food, I tried their "sau zi" noodle which they advertise near the entrance with a large Chinese poster. The Chinese text says one of the kings in ancient China fell sick after a battle in the rain. His elder brother's wife (the salutation of such relationship is called sau zi in Chinese) cooked him a bowl of noodles. He ate it and had a big sweat due to the strong spices. He recovered. The famous noodle was hence named sau zi noodle. That was the same noodle that I ate thousands of years later the other day. I felt like a king because I sweat the same way as described by the poster and I felt much better afterwards.

My family ordered the beef stew noodle and another one I didn't remember the name of. I tried a bite of each. They were all great.

Now, we need them to open a branch in the south bay.

Another thing about the restaurant is that it uses a green color scheme throughout the whole place and they even have a goldfish tank full of algae to match the color. The water is totally murky green and you cannot even see the fish until some of those poor fish swim close to the edge gasping for air. Please don't call the animal rights group, I don't want this restaurant shut down for the wrong reasons. I don't care about the well being of the fish as long as the noodles are great.

It is winter time and I entered here on a cold day! If this restaurant is trying to go green, it definitely looks like it. The walls are green, and they have more plants than any restaurant I've seen. I love the menu. You are passed a laminated book, each page a full blown picture with the name. They say pictures are worth a thousand words, and the pictures provided definitely show you everything that comes with the dish. It's simple (think of In and Out).

They pull their own noodles, meaning create it, because that's how noodles are made.

I ordered this:

(House Special Sour & Spicy w/Pork Noodle Soup)

YES! I must say the reason it's lacking 5 stars is because there as not enough pork. The soup however lived up to it's name and was definitely spicy. It was filling, and definitely kept me warm, up to the point where I was sweating. The spice was not overwhelming but I did have a hard time the next day. : )
